There are two ratings I'm going to give for this place. One is for aesthetics, and one is for the overall tour. The property and the actual cellar is very nice. Everything that's been said about the property is true. The cats running around the property are very nice and they clearly like people - we noticed on the way out of the store that there was a sign that said don't pet them or feed them. We, um, already had pet them....a lot. What are you supposed to do when their cute whittle puttums come up to you, rub up against you, and purr? It turns out that the gentleman that said hello to us on the way in to the tour this morning, who also saw us petting the cats, and who joked with us that he would give us free wine if we'd take the cats home was in fact the owner of the winery. Nothing like blatantly disregarding posted signs in front of the business owners! For the tour itself, I would have to say I was underwhelmed. This is not the first winery I've been to, nor will it be my last. Don was our guide and he was pretty funny. I actually learned a lot from him on the tour that I hadn't learned from previous winery visits. However, the actual tasting portion of the tour was disappointing - granted, you get 7 wines to try, but they're not ones of your choice....only ones that they have decided you will have. The winery deals heavily in chardonnays and plenty of reds, none of which I like. I pretty much dumped every sample of wine out that they gave me save for the spiced wine and the raspberry wine (the dessert/special wines at the end). Every other tasting I've been on has either let me pick which ones I've wanted to try, or they've been willing to substitute for ones that I would like. They did not offer to do that here. The other thing that was disappointing was the VHS video at the beginning (which was antiquated) and the push to stay at their very chic (and accordingly very expensive) hotel on the proper - it came across as pretentious. I can't be mad at the price of the tour - it was included in the price of a living social weekend package I purchased. We did all get free wineglasses out of it as well, and I bought a bottle of the spiced wine plus another bottle of blush that sounded good. as well as a bottle of crab salsa (sounded intriguing). I really wanted to get the raspberry wine, but at $28 for 375 mL, that wasn't happening. I imagine that ones the vines grow back on the trees and the weather gets warm, the place will be breathtaking. If you're into reds and drier white wines, then this will be an exciting place for you. A nice little wine tour and tasting. The tour guide was nice and knowledgeable. The wine was good. We tasted 7 different types of wine and they were all pretty good. We bought 4 bottles at the end of the tour. The property is also beautiful and they have a restaurant and hotel next door to the winery. Definitely worth the money to do the tour! read more

I visited on Saturday (5/18/19) with my six sisters/cousin + baby for brunch. The grounds and parking lot were pretty. The wedding venue was beautiful. The food was good. The service in the restaurant was baffling. Nice staff but there was a lot of confusion with our server, the managers and the kitchen. Our food made it out about 10 minutes from each other with no explanation that it would be coming out in a few minutes or that there was any sort of delay. We then waited 55 minutes from the time we finished eating to the time we paid our bills. Again, there was no confusion and no explanation from our server or the manager standing by. All in all, I do not recommend for groups. The baby had a good time and the smaller tables seemed to enjoy their meals and experience but I would recommend going elsewhere for food/wine with a larger group. read more

Lackluster in many ways. The reception attendants really should be more courteous and friendly. They seemed utterly disinterested and bored. The actual wine tasting was rather slow and the wines themselves were nothing special. In addition, the tasting seemed a bit understaffed. Overall it's a fun visit especially if you plan on spending the day in Williamsburg, however you will probably not be blown away. read more

I went here with my wife and some friends for my first wine & food tasting and it was very nice. The place and people were not pretentious and the local eateries that were there had some great food to offer. We've been coming to this vineyard for a few years and have grown to the love the place even more. We're now wine club members and its totally worth it to be a part of the club. Quarterly wine shipments or pick up plus quarterly pick up parties. We also get to taste wine free of charge, anytime we come. The staff is super friendly, a special shout out to Gail and Joe who make a lot of our visits awesome and we always leave learning something new. They give reserve wine tastings and also tours, the estate is beautiful and they're constantly changing things. Alas we haven't done the reserve wine tasting but I see that in our near future! read more

Our tour guide, Joe, was awesome and patiently answered all of my questions. We enjoyed every aspect of this trip and loved the 5% discount for buying 6 bottles of their wine. We had lunch at Gabriel's Tavern and then went across the street to buy some wine. We ended up leaving empty handed. The tours are on their schedule. They wanted us to wait 25 minutes to pay for a tasting to determine what kind of mediocre wine to buy. Ummm, NO THANKS...your wine just isn't that good. read more

I expected this to be boring and nothing that I would be interested in doing, but once I decided to bring my friend here for a day visit I ended up enjoying it... even though the lady in our group kept bringing up Trump and his Winery in Charlottesville, this is a place I will definitely come back to and do the reserve tour. Very beautiful place to be. I enjoyed a wine tasting and the woman giving the session was very knowledgeable and easy on the eyes. I didn't know the vineyard was only approx 25yrs old. Fun experience...wish they had a wudet variety of wine, all of the wine given was on the dry side. read more

We did the tour late in the day on a Saturday but everything went smooth and we learned a lot about our famous local establishment. Maybe not the most in depth as far as the tasting goes but I guess that's what the higher priced option is for. Great experience especially considering how cheap it was. Definitely recommended it for visiting out of towners. read more

The selection of wine is amazing and very reasonably priced. We did the $10 tour and got a chance to sample some of those amazing wines. I can't really offer a review on the actual winery as my experience with Williamsburg Winery was from the Virginia Wine Fest in Town Point Park, Norfolk. After waiting in line to get up to the table, we were met with an extremely rude sommelier. She looked at and treated my boyfriend as if he were a homeless wretch. It was such a negative and disheartening experience, we left the festival .... Granted, she was the second rude sommelier we had experienced in our 30 minutes at the festival. read more

D and I had a great time last week. We were in town on an impromptu birthday getaway for D, and decided to add this to our itinerary. When you arrive, there's a long drive way that takes you along some of their vineyards. It's definitely picturesque and I can see how the winery is a great venue space. We ended up doing a tour and tasting which includes a souvenir wine glass. It's originally $10 per person, but we had a coupon from a tour book. Overall, our guide, Bob, was very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. I learned so much about wine making from that one afternoon. D and I enjoyed the wine so much that we joined the wine club. We'll be back. read more

We took part in the extensive tour and reserve wine tasting and it was a blast! The tour was informative and interesting, going not only into the wine making process but the history behind the owners and land the winery sits on. The winery is old school doing everything there on site, from grapes to labeling. The winery itself is gorgeous, spacious and well kept. Our tour ended with a reserve tasting that took place in the cellar in a unique small space where they house the reserve wine bottles. We were given almost 90 minutes of time to drink our way through 10 ample tastings of wine accompanied by cheese, crackers and bread. The wine was all excellent, and I actually found a red I enjoyed! We sat outside in the sun and waited for soberness before heading out. Would love to visit here again! read more

I like wine. I like to think I have a pretty good palette. If I am drinking casually without pairing I typically go for the heavier reds. My wife likes dry whites. We came here with our three year old as a final activity before heading home from a very busy vacation in Williamsburg. This was the only activity that wasn't exactly kid focused. We took the basic tour which I found to be great, especially with our situation. I wish I remembered our guides name but I I do remember that she was originally from long island. We thought she was both a knowledgeable and attentive. The tasting was good. I did not care for everything but then again I never do at a full tasting. The sweeter wines seemed especially young. I liked their dry rose and claret. We ended up buying a case to bring home. Our guide let my wife and I taste one more (two schilling red) after remembering a question my wife asked during the your tasting. I say go for the experience alone. You can have lunch their as well. My dad is a bit of a wine connoisseur and he always says "you like what you like". We liked this winery! read more

We had a fantastic time!!! I put together a novice wine tour for a group. Everyone has been drinking wine for years, but we wanted to have fun and learn more. Sarah was our tour guide and she was amazing. We were lucky enough to have a private tour with our group of 9. This enabled us to relax and just be ourselves. Sarah was so great with allowing us to ask all of our questions and she had great knowledge of the winery and wine in general. She was able to work with the wine maker last year, the personal time she had with him and the grapes gave her familiarity which was much more then you would expect. A lot of us have taken tours with the Williamsburg Winery before, but taking a personal tour was worth it. The extra bits were great. Many of us left with her favorite bottle in tow (the merlot), partly because of her history lesson behind the wine and also because we all wanted to take a piece of her home with us. My husband found this little gem ! We had a wonderful lunch sitting outside on a beautiful Friday afternoon in November! While there we had the opportunity to meet the founder Mr. Patrick Duffeler. While waiting to be seated a small group came in and proceeded to walk past us the older man came back to apologize for walking past and offered his hand and stated his family was having lunch there and he was the founder. While we were lunching an older gentleman a veteran was getting some food in the bar area went to exit to bring some rolls to his wife ( they were enjoying the day and a glass of wine in the picnic area) as he exited the rolls fell Mr. Duffeler who had been passing by quickly assisted this veteran ... I am truly blessed to have been witness to this act of kindness and to be able to have met this kind gentleman.....he stopped while we were enjoying our lunch and with a warm smile kind words and witness to his reaction and actions we are going back tonight for dinner at their Cafe Provencal....! If ever in Williamsburg I highly recommend the The Gabriel Archer Tavern at the Williamsburg Winery. read more

Area is lush and green so a nice relaxing drive without being too far in the country. In the car after doing the reverse tasting and considering going again for the ones I didn't choose. read more

When staying in Williamsburg, we decided to stop by for a tasting hoping to pass a few pleasant hours. This seems like a tourist trap to me. We each purchased an $8 fine wine tasting. In the tasting room, we waited and waited without even an acknowledgement. After moving to another section, we were finally greeted by a different employee. We were hopeful that the experience would improve, but were not fans of any wines. We did choke them back but did not purchase and will not return. read more

Extending the valentines celebration with my wife we went to the winery on Presidents' Day with a wonderful ambience of snow. It was a very peaceful white drive down to the tasting hall. Snow didn't deter people away. As soon as we walked in we were very nicely greeted and informed of how everything worked, this being our first time wine tasting. There were two wine tasting options. We chose today's tasting options with 7 choices of wine out of 14. Great experience all the way around. Wine glasses were included and military is half off of tasting. Got there at closing time they had a beautiful selection of wines they also were decorated very nice I wish I would have had time to do their taste testing. We went there in June and unfortunately they did not have any Moscato for me to try. I guess it's more of a fall wine because it's sweeter.. I might have that backwards lol... but either way they didn't have it. read more
