This cute little wine shop (thus the name!) has an extensive collection of curated wines, liquor, gourmet items, gifts and more! It's sister store/restaurant, The Tasting Room is adjacent, and you can even purchase one of the dessert items from The Tasting Room - the delicious Hawaiian Macadamia Nut Butter Toffee produced by Hamakua Toffee Company! We purchased several as gifts! (Be sure to check out my review of the Tasting Room as well!) We also purchased a few cute kitchen towels featuring local plant life made by a Kauai local artist as gifts. The recipients of the kitchen towels and toffee were very pleased! Yes they have most hard to find wines and liquor and yes they are very nice, very nice indeed! One major concern is the prices are ridiculously inflated. I understand we are in Kauai HI and there is additional shipping cost but please let's not rip people off like that. Go here if you desperately need a specific bottle of booze but be prepared to get ripped off. Sad but true. I've been visiting Poipu area for many years now and this has always been my go to place for a nice bottle. Well even the locals who live here tell me the prices at the Wine Shop have skyrocketed the past few years. Try Costco, Safeway or others first. read more

I got my marriage license here. The folks working were friendly but the process was pretty inefficient (multiple reprints needed!) Totally understandable and apologies accepted... but still annoying. We were planning on looking around the shop and maybe buying some wine for our friends but ended up going elsewhere. They do seem to have quite the selection of wine and liquor though. read more

The best place to buy a bottle of wine. The inside is great! A very nice selection of wines to choose from, from different parts of the world. The prices are a little higher than the mainland, but not by much considering you're not drinking "wine in a bag in a box." There's also a nice selection of gourmet foods. He: Get a wine opener Me: Okay (looking at the $1.99 ones) Screw that. I want a real wine opener (picking up the $3.99 one) Okay, prices may be off. The owner was great! Nestled in the heart of Old Koloa Town is a bonafide wine shop! They are a small store but they pack the wine, fun gourmet foods, and accessories that make fantastic gifts, from wall to wall and floor to ceiling. The Wine Shop carries a wide variety of wine for every price point, and they are happy to make you a recommendation! They also carry gluten-free beer, and my wife's favorite, Rogue beers. The first Saturday of the month they hold a wine tasting, which they just began charging 10$ per person for. These wine tastings can get pretty packed but the selections are tasty and they pair each selection with a delicious appetizer! The staff/owners are super knowledgable and the store is great for locals and tourists both! My advice, get a sandwich next door, then come cruise the wine shop and go enjoy a beach picnic with a bottle! read more

If you're staying at a condo in the Poipu area, a stop at the wine shop is a must! I didn't actually buy any wine here, but did buy a bunch of tiny bottles of liquor to make mixed drinks at the hotel. This is a family-owned place, and I felt good about supporting it. I also discovered a really tasty ginger liqueur that they sell in tiny bottles, called Domaine De Canton, and it's great with seltzer or tonic. The more common liquors in mini bottles were a tad overpriced at about $5 each, especially considering that there are ABC stores that sell them for $2.50 each. Nonetheless, I would definitely return for my wine and ginger liqueur needs. read more

We stopped in here looking for a nice bottle of wine to go with the steak dinner we were preparing. Really enjoyed talking with the owner, Dan O'Connell. They have a large assortment of wines from a lot of regions, at a range of prices. We were surprised to find a lot of Washington state wines, including several from one of our favorite vineyards, Longshadow. We ended up getting a bottle of Washington wine, Boom Boom, and it was perfect. They have some interesting foods and snacks to accompany the wine, and a little bar at the back, but apparently, due to the liquor licenses in Hawaii, they can't serve wine there - you either need to have a carry out or drink in license; you can't have both. Bummer. We would have been happy to enjoy a glass or two of wine in their quaint, lovely setting. As it turns out, they also do wedding licenses, and we learned after our visit, that our cousin and her husband got their wedding license there! Small world. read more

Have purchased wines here 3X. Good selection, though not large by Sonoma county CA standards. Props here for carrying above average brands. No crap labels that you find at Foodland / Times Supermarket. As you'd expect, prices are elevated compared to the mainland. But you are on vacation and you want the good stuff, correct? So spend the extra few bucks happily. Nice, friendly, knowledgeable people own and operate. Recommended! read more

Phenomenal service!! I've been in quarantine on Koloa side of Kauai. And this shop offers countless varieties of wine, beer and hard alcohol. The owner is very nice. They don't have a standard menu. But if you know what your looking for the owner will guide you through his ever changing innovatory, and you'll get what you want. And they will even deliver. There menu changes as often as you change your shirt. I've had two deliveries in the last 3 days and they always come, no problem At all. read more

A gem on the island! I had almost lost hope of finding reasonably priced wine that was not restricted to California until we stumbled open this viniferous find. Owner Dano is charming and helpful, the store is appropriately laid out, and the wine prices match the local origin of the bottles we chose (Oregon/Washington local grocery store prices for locally produced wines). We selected a canvas back Cabernet Sauvignon (one of the best gift wines we know of), a Penner-Ash "Rubeo" which we first had on Cannon Beach that was a smash hit for the entire family of 11, which is a rare feat, and finally a Novelty Hill Cabernet which is their previous label and of the 2011 vintage. Score! Thy are pouring 2015 right now and I'm anxious to break this appropriately aged varietal open. This is a must visit for any discerning wine consumer! read more

I wanted to go out for drinks with a friend and every bar on the south shore was booked. Amazingly DanO and Megan found us room at the bar in the tasting room. The food was perfect and the ambiance was outstanding. I had such a fantastic experience that I returned again a few nights later and had even a better experience. I will be back. read more

This is my favorite away-from-home wine shop (so far). My favorite wine shop is undoubtedly the Woodland Hills Wine Company (http://www.yelp.com/biz/woodland-hills-wine-company-woodland-hills), but if and when I find myself on that familiar little piece of paradise called Kauai, I will be sure to stop here for my wine fix! Like WHWC, the guys that run the shop really know their stuff and are extremely enthusiastic and passionate about it. They carry a very good selection of higher end wines and spirits, a rare find on the island. Also, as of December 2008, they were holding free monthly wine tastings. Very cool! My bf and I strolled to this end of Koloa Road b/c we wanted some fresh ahi from Koloa Fish Market (http://www.yelp.com/biz/koloa-fish-market-inc-koloa)... well, we got our fish, but we also left with a bouquet of flowers (from the flower shop next door) and a bottle of Silver Oak Cab from the Wine Shop. We've been here twice! Once in May while I was doing a hair & make-up trial upstairs and once in August to get our marriage license. The owners were amazing and so nice. The wine selection is great! Outstanding customer service! I purchased a gift basket for my sister who was visiting the area for her birthday, but I didn't have her exact itinerary and didn't want to ruin the surprise. The Wine Shop is a wonderful store with a great variety of wine and gourmet packaged goods. My wife and I spent a couple of hundred dollars on gourmet spreads and sauces to bring back as gifts as well as try out on our own. If visiting Koloa/Poipu Beach area, this should be your first stop. A quick tip.... ask them for a list partner restaurants in the area who will waive the corkage fee and allow you to bring your own bottle to dinner as long as it was purchased from the Wine Shop. We weren't able to take advantage of it because I didn't know about it, but if I had known, it would have saved us quite a bit of money at a couple of restaurants we dined at while in Poipu. read more

Here's how to earn a 5 star review in less time than it will take to read the story about it. I arrived 15 minutes after closing to try and get some wine. I tried the door in vain hope they were open late, but it was locked. I started walking away, and then a man unlocked the door and invited me inside. The store was beautiful and functional. I said I needed a bottle of something red. After two follow up questions from the proprietor, he pulled a bottle from the wall. He rang up my purchase, and I went along my merry way. A lot of the restaurants on the south shore have a program that if you get a bottle from him they will comp the corkage fee.
