Nice little wine shop in the wonderful little town of Koloa. We visit Kauai every year for many years now and always stop in here. Nice selection of California wines at decent prices. Nothing is perfect, but a good wineshop in Koloa, near Poipu Beach area, is a find. I was able to spend quite a bit of time scouting the inventory, before the owner, Dan, noticed me, and then he immediately asked if I needed help, I might have bought more or chosen another bottle had he moved from behind the register, but he appeared to be a tad preoccupied with orders. I chose a torrentes, more than I usually pay!, but heck-- it is Hawaii. Selection excellent, though for ordinary well priced wines, the local grocery store (Seuko?) down the street is just fine. I did over hear Dan telling another customer about the corkage waiver deal at some restaurants, if you buy from him-- I tried to get more info about that, will have to stop in another time when Dan is not so busy, working on his inventory. Two years ago we stopped into The Wine Shop on our way to Poipu. We were greeted by Dan and a terrific wine selection. We were also looking for lemoncello and Dan ordered it from Honolulu and we had it the next day. Dan named us, "The Lemoncello Guys." This year, upon returning we were happy to see it was still there. We stopped in and said hello to Dan and reminded him of our nickname. He wasn't sure at first but after chatting, I think he remembered us - or at least gave a good effort. He still had lemoncello in stock and we were very happy. Don't stop with the lemoncello. His wine selection rivals anything else and his assortment of cheeses, both local and imported, are delish. Dan also bartends at Red Salt so shop by day and drink at the bar by night. read more

This place has some hard to find wines. There are a few good buys. A lot of wine from Michael David Winery in Lodi, which I love. Again the prices in Kauai are extreme so some wines are marked up a lot. But look carefully and you will find something in your budget. So much packed into one little shop! People are a pleasure. We were there to get our marriage license and were in quite a rush so we did not get to shop. However, I would recommend both for shopping as I saw such a variety of alcohol, something for everyone and every price range, as well as I would recommend for getting your marriage license. They took care of business and we were on our way in about 10 minutes. Next time in Kauai it is a must stop! read more

I wouldn't consider buying wine from anywhere else. A small shop with a big heart, a wonderful ambiance and superior service. What you'd expect from a world class wine shop. Never a bad experience. This is where we got our wedding license 4 years ago so I do have a bit of bias regarding this place. But they have a great selection on wine and friendly help when you go in. This is always our first stop after leading to pick up some wine before heading to our condo. Definitely recommend anyone to take a look. What a delightful surprise! The proprietor of this fabulous place spared no expense in making it beautiful. It even smells wonderful. The aroma of a humidor...faintly cedar...or maybe it was the smoked salts....The wine is arranged in a logical way, making it very easy to find what you are looking for. Excellent quality of brands....they had my favorite boutique gin, called Hendricks, as well as Crystal Head vodka. The markup was not very high either. Excellent use of space, display, selection, great value. Woman at the cash register seemed nice enough. Not hovering over you. Just available and cordial. Wish they were just down the street from me. Without a doubt, I will be back. Make sure you patronize them frequently so they will stay in business because clearly they spared no expense to make it an enjoyable experience to shop there. read more

A marginal wine shop at best! I went to this wine shops, based on the reviews, looking for a few unique bottles of wine, with no preference to where the wine hails from. What I found was everything I wasn't looking for; expensive California Cabernet, and not even the small lots from small producers (although expensive, neat none the less). This wine shop is heavily burdened by expensive, high alcohol wines, yes these are almost all from California (some from Washington too). There is almost no Oregon presence, no Burgundy, no Bordeaux (can you believe it?), little or no Germany, and the list goes on and on... What this wine shop has is a lack of imagination and diversity. They have stuck to the most obvious wines from the most obvious producers. Unfortunately this is the only wine shop in the area, and we needed wine to drink with dinner. I found 5 bottles, ONLY 5 bottles, in the entire shop that had even a remote chance of being something neat. After browsing their shop for a good while it finally hit me, these guys/ladies buy wines that the Wine Spectator tells them to, not wines that they think might be interesting or fun...this is what is wrong with wine and wine shops. read more

We stopped here in september of 09 looking for a nice bottle of wine to complement dinner. The owners have lived on Kauai for over 20 years and were extremely friendly and helpful with a nice collection of varietals. Once a month they do a free tasting on weekends. I highly recommend you buy wine from them and pay the corkage fee (usually under $20) rather than buying wine at the restaurants as you'll get a much better bottle of wine for less! read more

Kauai is NOT the center of the known universe. Nevertheless, when we found "The Wine Shop" in Koloa, we thought we were in wine heaven. This is not a large store, but the inventory is large and the selection is above, far above, what one would expect on the island. The store has been in business for 10 years, all family run, and continues so today. There is a bit of everything in the store, old world, new world, reds, whites, and the others running the gamut of prices to fit your budget. We caught it on a day the owners (Parents) were in Spain on a tasting trip and one of the daughters (Megan) was on the floor. She was friendly and knowledgeable, helpful with the selections for many clients. It's a "Cheers" type of place, with locals coming in and being greeted by name by Megan. The first Saturday of the month they do a tasting and pairing for several hours during the late afternoon. You might find cheaper wine at Longs or Costco, but you will not find the variety and friendliness which is the norm for this nice little store! read more

We own a condo in Poipu and always love to stop in at Dan's shop to purchase some wonderful wines to have at our place or to take to restaurants he has agreements with where we do not pay any corkage when brining his wines. Our place is a vacation rental and we have in our information to our guests to be sure to go by The Wine Shop to pick up wine for their vacation. Always, they have been pleased with the selection. Being Wine drinkers from California we truly enjoy the variety that Dan and Ellen have picked out for their shop, we have never been disappointed. When we take bottles to restaurants and share with friends, they always want to know where we brought the wine. For such a small Kauaiian resort area, Dan and and Ellen really pack in the wonderful wines from all over the world. Great customer service! I phoned The Wine Shop from my home in Dallas to deliver a basket to my wife, who was staying in Hawaii on Mother's Day. The gentleman that answered the phone could not have been more pleasant or accomodating. I requested a modified basket and had no issues. The store was closed on Mother's Day but, they offered to deliver on that day. I chose to have the basket delivered the evening before. On top of the fantastic service, they were considerably less expensive than ordering through the hotel where my wife was staying. No doubt, their quality of champagne and cheese was better than what the hotel would have supplied. Wife called raving about the champagne and said the cheese was outstanding. I live 5 minutes up the road and have passed by here almost on a daily basis, but have never stopped in. So sorry I didn't up until yesterday while waiting for my sandwiches from Koloa Deli. My girlfriend and I decided to window shop while waiting for our food. We walked in to the store and was immediately impressed by the number of non-alcohol items, souvenirs made on Kauai, and all kind of cool gadgets, candies, cookies, etc. all made on Kauai! The man that helped us was very nice and helpful. We took our time browsing the cute wine glasses, the spices made on Kauai, Hawaiian made hot sauce, Kauai chocolates and candies,etc. Then I found a rack full of pesto and dips and sauces. I forgot about my lunch as I drooled over which dip or pesto to take home. I finally decided on the smoked garlic mozzarella dip. My friend settled on a cute little bottle of Kauai Rum, a chocolate bacon bar, and chocolate covered pecans with coconut flakes. When we reached the counter to pay, we also found that they sold Kauai grown hand rolled cigars, and other really cool stuff that we haven't seen anywhere else. Since our lunch and families were waiting, we had to bid adieu to this wonderful place but promised we'd be back again soon to browse longer. If you are a visitor looking for some great non-touristy Kauai items, this is definitely the place to get souvenirs that will be greatly appreciated by you family and friends back home! read more

This is an outstanding wine store! It carries brands that are limited, more artisan in style and not mass-produced. The selection is diverse and so are the prices. The owner was very friendly and helpful. What more can you ask for?! If you think you'll find it at Costco cheaper you wont because these wines aren't in Costco. I'm in the trade in CA and can't believe I just discovered this store having been in Poipu many times. read more
