Ahh mazinnng views. Having lived in SF for 7 years we got used to the Pacific Ocean and awesome views up and down the coast and I honestly have to say this is right up there. Food was fine but what set it apart was the views from the patio and first come first serve fire pit spots. Watched sunset and didn't want to leave.

We had an incredible 10/10 dinner and experience at Whistling Straits Restaurant on their last night of service before closing for the season. For starters, the remote location makes it feel so exclusive, the building is a gorgeous stone and brimming with elegance (like everything associated with the American Club!) We were seated for our reservation right away and offered drinks and ordered appetizers. We started with a scallop dish and salad, followed by a braised duck dish and truffle goat pasta dish. We let the chef decide on choosing/serving our pasta dish and it was AMAZING - the pasta was made in house and honestly it was one of the yummiest dishes I've ever tried! Closed the dinner out with hot toddies which was a great way to kick off the holiday season. We will definitely be going back again!

We had lunch here last weekend and, despite some rainy weather, enjoyed a beautiful view, cozy fireside dining, and a great gluten-free sandwich. Having just been in Ireland, we immediately appreciated the Irish countryside castle-like design with beautiful stonework at the entrance. The view of the lake combined with the warm fireplace made the restaurant perfectly cozy and inviting. Our server was nice but not well versed on the menu for people with allergies. It would be nice if the menu was labeled, but as it was, she had to ferry back and forth from the kitchen to check on things for me. It ended up that I couldn't have any of the soups or appetizers, but at least they had gf bread. My club sandwich with veggies and hummus as a side turned out delicious with fresh local bacon and a fabulous aioli. The husband had the soup of the day, a potato leek, and a very crispy fish and chips. He said both were very good. Overall, as long as you're flexible, the place can definitely accommodate a gluten allergy, and the ambiance is picturesque.

Great food but very bad service! We went to the Whistling Straits Golf Course for our anniversary and then got dinner after at the restaurant. We got seated right away, and the ambiance is very historic and exquisite. The hostess was very kind and filled our glasses of water. When the server came around, she asked for our drinks order, and to save time, we added our appetizers' order, too. The drinks were 20 minutes late, and there was no explanation as to why it took so long. The appetizers came after that, and the server never asked who the food and drinks were. As the appetizers were dropped off, the server asked for our entrée order and immediately put that in. While we waited for the entrées, the server had no touch points at the table, so we didn't ask if we wanted more drinks or anything else. After 30 minutes of waiting for the entrée where we thought the server abandoned us, we almost left when the hostess came by our table to help us get more water and apologize for the wait. Finally, after a very long wait, the food came out, and the same as the drinks, there was nobody asking if the food was good or why there was a delay. What started as a great round of golf ended as an abysmal dinner that left a bad taste in our mouth. It's really sad that this expensive place had poor service with no apologies.

Outstanding choice! Server Ellie was fantastic--her happy smile added to the beautiful scenery & the well-prepared food to make our meal quite memorable. The interior is elegant yet rustic, with a crackling fireplace and crystal stemware; lots to look at & admire. We could see the golf course and Lake Michigan from our table--spectacular!! We will be back!!

Loved the citrus shrimp salad here for lunch, light and refreshing! Wonderful view of the golf course from the outdoor patio and very nice service! Would recommend to anyone interested!

Wow! The views!! The staff was amazing so attentive and personable really friendly. Eva was our amazing server. Their VESA's salad was yummy as were thier scallops and beef tenderloin. The crème brûlée was my absolute favorite. We loved sitting out on the patio watching the golfers come in

This is the clubhouse from our after dinner walk out to the coastline.

Great outdoor terrace dining. The food was spectacular. We shared a charcuterie, wedge salad and filet. That evening there were several large parties so it was a bit loud with cigar smoke. But all in all a wonderful experience.

We were passing through town and had to wait a bit before the next place to stay was opened. Our party of four was warmly welcomed. We had a great seat by the window overlooking the spectacular course. I ordered their BLT and my hubby ordered an open-faced tuna melt that came with a side of arugula salad. We loved them both. Would definitely come back. It was chilly in their though, so maybe bring a sweater or buy one in the pro shop. Just sayin......

Um...did you know you can dine upstairs and you don't need a reservation? The menu is simple but the atmosphere is something else. It's like Chili's Restaurant prices with golf resort ambiance. Had their Old Fashioned drink. Spot on! Also had turkey BLT. Good portions. Mrs. had their fish and chips and was happy. After we ate we walked outside and watched golfers finish the course at the 18th hole. Could have also just watched from our table but being outside was nice. Got to hear the chatter of the golfing groups having fun. Could've also ate outside off the menu pictured but didn't realize that until afterwards. What a great experience. Definitely recommend trying it!

Was a bit chilly near window, but very friendly service from hostess as well as from waitress. Menu was ample and i left full! Got the cheesy cauliflower, filet, salmon and pheasant at our table. We also got the kohler chocolate torte, coffee, foie gras and welsh rarebit for appetizers. Everything was very very delicious. The resort shuttle came very fast and dropped us back off at hotel!

It's actually located in the back of a bar called Four of a Kind. I ordered the Traditional UP Pasty. It was pretty darn good. Crust was light and flakey while the middle was dense and tasty. Just the way I like them. Gravy is an extra buck, but well worth it. I ordered my pasty in the back of the restaurant (behind the pool tables!) through a little window into the kitchen. This area has limited choices for beverages so I went to the bar to order something else separately. Wasn't too impressed with the staff. Kind of felt like I was a stranger coming into a someone's local hangout (which I actually was!!). I just thought I'd get a "thanks" or at least a "have a nice day" as I walked past the employees as I left. Nice thing is that if you are with someone who might not want a pasty, the bar has a pretty nice bar food menu including soups. Pasty was very good, will give them another try and maybe I'll get my "have a nice day" then!

I've had Kohler Chocolates before and have always been impressed. Since we were staying at the American Club for the weekend, stopping by the chocolate shop was a must. As part of the stay, you receive a small box of Terrapins as a welcome gift and then a couple of square truffles with the nightly turn-down service, which only made us more excited to visit the store. We went on a Sunday morning while they were just putting out their selections in the display case. It isn't a huge assortment, but everything they offer is beautifully crafted and clearly made with care. I was especially surprised and impressed when we asked if it was possible to sample something and they offered us an entire truffle rather than just a small piece. That was incredibly generous. You can purchase pre-boxed assortments, but if you want a custom selection, you can choose any combination you like and they will box it up for you. They offer gift boxes for four or nine pieces, which are perfect sizes for sharing or giving as gifts. We will definitely enjoy these chocolates ourselves and share them with some of our favorite people.
