Lots of potential here! I was so excited for a new spot to open in the crossroads. We went pretty close to opening, so I think they're still working out some kinks with service. We had to wait awhile for a waitress to greet us, then we got our cocktails but she didn't return to take our order for almost 45 minutes. The cocktails were great, and we really enjoyed the meatball app and the moz sticks. The pizza was okay, and the pasta was a letdown. For the price I really expect freshly made pasta, and it wasn't giving me that. I'd go back for drinks and apps or to try something different on the menu because I think there's a lot of potential. When I walked in I felt like I was walking into an Italian restaurant in New York. It has a moody vibe with Frank Sinatra Music playing in the background. I ordered the Amalfi Coast cocktail at the bar and was immediately hooked. So delicious and refreshing. The salmon was excellent and cannoli's for dessert ended the evening on a perfect note. The chicken parm has a really good crust and the bold vodka sauce left me craving more. The salad was perfectly dressed, it wasn't drowning in dressing. The food was flavorful and balanced. I definitely think Wise Guy is gonna be a knockout in KC! With prices ranging from $16 to $30, the value for the quality of food is exceptional. Their happy hour specials, featuring $15 pizzas and $10 cocktails and martinis from Monday to Friday, are a steal. The service alongside the food was also excellent - the servers and managers were all so kind, gave great recommendations, and just provided a great time! We went in with no reservations because we were just passing through, but they took care of us anyways! We got sat at the bar, which turned out to be so awesome. Bar is long, beautiful dark wood and old school bar top style. Bartenders were super attentive, made great recommendations, and we ended up with the best pizza and pasta! Came here with another couple and expectations were high. Walked in and immediately the ambiance was welcoming with good music that fit the vibe. Ordered garlic knots for an appetizer and the fun and deliciousness had just begun. My lady and I split the chicken parm pasta w/ rigatoni and the other couple and us split a pepperoni and jalapeño pizza. We all had numerous drinks that were excellent. My favorite was the old fashioned but I also enjoyed the dirty martini. Service was excellent as we had reservations at 4:30 and were seated immediately. Almost two hours later and we were planning our next trip back. Do whatever you can to make reservations because they fill up fast. read more

I would describe my experience here as just ok. We had the deviled egg appetizer, they weren't bad but not anything above or beyond. The Old Fashioned was very good, but the glasses were quite small compared to most other establishments. For a $10-15 drink, I usually see cocktails served in glasses twice this size. I ordered the chicken Parmesan with spaghetti pomodoro, and what I got was not what I expected. The sauce was dark red and thick (I should've taken a photo). It was ok. But prior experiences with pasta pomodoro, it was a light sauce with fresh tomatoes. Like someone else mentioned in their (two star) review, we were told toward the end of our meal that they may move us to free up the table and seat us at the bar where we would "be more comfortable." Someone also mentioned how dark it was in there. The ambiance was nice, with the dark wood. But trying to read the fine print on the menu in the dark was challenging. Guy at the neighboring table sat down, turned on his flashlight on his cell phone to read the menu...no more ambiance. It kept shining in our eyes with us seated at a low top and him at a high top table about two feet higher. The person who served our deviled eggs was funny and energetic. Our waitress was very attentive. I'm seeing good things in other reviews here about the pizza, so that may be worth a shot next time around. I will be using the awesomeness of Buffalo State Pizza around the corner from here as my guide. read more

My party cancelled last minute so I decided to go to dinner on my own. The hostess took me to a barstool not a table. It was a Sunday night and there were tables for two available where I preferred to sit. I said I was having dinner and the an assumption was made by the hostess that a single person should sit at the bar. The bartender was attentive and served me a delicious Manhattan. I ordered the caprese salad and chicken parmesan dinner. The salad was really soggy and the chicken parm was average at best. I was expecting this crisp amazing salad and wonderful homemade sauce and had neither. The sauce didn't taste Italian at all. Lots of parsley was cooked in the sauce and the flavor was blase. I took a chicken parm dinner to go and my daughter did not even take a second bite becasue she said it tasted weird. A man - pretty sure he was the manager or owner (he had tattoos) walked toward me asking if everything was OK and kept walking up to the hostess. He didn't stop to actually get an answer. It was apparent he had no genuine interest in how everything was. Upon sitting at the bar, I said it was my first time there. Other than the bartender, not one person interacted with me at all. I was told this was a cool, cozy place and nobody really cared whether or not I was there. I didn't expect red carpet treatment but it was downright cold as ice - no warmth to the place at all. I will never go back and highly recommend going elsewhere if you want authentic food and a place that appreciates your business. I am glad the rest of my party cancelled because it would have been embarrassing treating them to dinner at a less than welcoming place where the food is average at best. I do not see Wiseguy staying in business long unless they are more welcoming to everyone and their food is authentic. read more
