With the many quiet nooks, you're bound to find a quiet place to sit and read. It's a used bookstore with a broad selection of genres. They also sell records which would be perfect for collectors. I bought a new journal from their many gorgeous journal designs. My daughter stumbled upon some books she had her eye on for some time. The store is huge so I'm sure you'd find something worthwhile. I was looking for some philosophy books and the attendant led me right to them. I was happy to see that the prices were reasonable and within my budget. This helps when you're a bibliophile like me. This bookstore felt like it has its roots in Galveston. It's a well-known local used bookstore you'll be happy to visit. Me and my daughter's left with some gems we can't wait to sink into.

Management...train your workers to be mindful of this. Thrift Books and Abe Books online are more convenient and often cheaper than Half Price. So, when I make the effort to go to Half Price I should be treated with common respect.

The Witchery is truly something special and easily my favorite metaphysical shop anywhere. I discovered this place several years ago and have been coming back ever since. It's one of those rare shops that feels both deeply authentic and genuinely welcoming. Kim and Clyde have created something really unique here, and it shows in every detail. The book collection alone sets this shop apart. It's far more extensive than anything I've seen in a metaphysical supply store, not just on the island, but anywhere in the Houston area. If you're looking to actually learn and deepen your practice, this is the place. Beyond that, they have a beautiful selection of crystals, oils, jewelry, incense, candles, and thoughtfully curated witchy gifts--everything you could need for spell work or spiritual exploration. The staff is always friendly, approachable, and incredibly knowledgeable. They're more than happy to share what they know if you ask, which makes the experience feel personal rather than transactional. Just yesterday, Clyde helped me with a pendulum I needed for a class I'm taking. I've always been skeptical even as a user and thus don't use them in my readings, but he showed me a technique that completely shifted how I understood it. It made me realize that, when taught properly by someone who truly knows what they're doing, it can actually work in a way I hadn't experienced before. They also host readers on the weekends, which adds another layer to the experience. But what really keeps me coming back--even when I don't need anything--is the energy of the space itself. I often find myself stopping in just to visit Kim and spend a few quiet moments at the Witching Well at the back of the shop. There's something about it that just draws you in. There may be other shops on the island now, but for a long time, this was the only place that truly felt like an authentic, rooted witchy space, and it still stands apart. My experience at the witchery The worst experience a person Shopping weather it bitch grocery, corner store, thrift store, any shopping experience where ever the worst. I don't know who the person was I'm assuming it was the Owner. I entered the witchery and I loved the place The unique things they had from around the world Abilene. I actually don't remember what it was that I picked up to look at it was in a small box and I opened it now when I say opened it I don't mean I tore open the box or anything like that I gently opened the box where it was meant to be opened. Meaning The way I had opened it did no harm to the merchandise or the box that it was in I just wanted to take a peek at it like anyone else would I believe that is of course if you've never been to this place. So I close the box put it back on The shelf .Before I could move onto the next product I want to look at this man comes barreling out from I don't know where and yelling at the top of his lungs in front of all the customers telling me that I should not be treating his merchandise this way and how dare me open the merchandise before paying for it . Absolute lunatic yelling at me like I was some kind of thief. I will never set foot on that property or go into that store ever again not as long as that person owns it or is the manager or whoever he is you just don't treat your customers that way. Maybe he was having a bad day that day Who knows but absolutely unnecessary and very very embarrassing and all the above for me the most important person to a business customer good riddance witchery !!!! read more

The staff is amazing! The owner has been short and rude to me on two separate occasions. The last time I was in, I FaceTimed my friend for a brief moment to ask what color shawl she wanted. I've been loving mine. That's when the owner approached me and in a very aggressive tone, rudely told me I wasn't allowed to FaceTime in the building. That there was a sign. I then walked through the establishment looking for that sign and there wasn't one. This is second time he was rude, but this time, I was sought out. When I asked him about it, he said he was trying to create an environment, which I understand. But you can't treat your clientele rudely for not posting rules. I may be a bit psychic, but I am not reading your mind for your shop rules. Like I said, the ladies in the shop are so amazing and knowledgeable, but that owner has made me find other places to shop. I'm not giving one star because metaphysical shops are hard to come by. But I felt this needed to be said. I will maybe be back for certain items, but the majority of the business and money I will be spending will be at other establishments. Nasty energy on that dude. read more

Gotta' comment on a very unique shop on Galveston Island .... The Witchery. The thing I love the most about this shop is the 'mood' you feel right when you go in. It's hard to explain but, it's like you just entered a different and very magical place in time. Beautiful jewelry, crystals, books ....... I love how the owners and staff keep the 'mood' going by asking customers not to use their phones inside the shop. It's so nice to have a place to go to and just be in the zone. The Witchery has been a long time 'destination' in the Galveston Arts & Entertainment District and customers are always bummed when the shop is closed even for a day. read more

So the owner of this place really needs to do some reflection on himself or possibly stop dabbling in whatever he might be dabbling in that makes him so angry. I love the store but every time I go in there I get the evil eye from the owner bald head goatee anybody that knows this place or has been here knows what I'm talking about. This was s welcome place to find on the Island. I only found it because I went Mod down the block but had to park in front of the Witchery. I bought a Penczak book there and the owner as he was selling it to me just happen to mention that it was a signed copy by the author which is cook and they didn't charge me extra for the signature like a lot of shops do. I will definitely visit them whenever I'm in Galveston. read more

I am not about to step foot in this store again. The owner is clearly a practicer of the dark arts. I came in to buy sage to smudge my home, but left after the owner proceeded to openly criticize me and my belief systems. I would recommend that anyone who is interested in true healing and clarity avoid this shop at all costs. read more

After browsing the shelves, and taking a seat in their reading area, I decided to go with a book that has been unfortunately banned, The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison. So glad I got the last copy and it was a great price. I would have chosen Mary Oliver's, New and Selected Poems, but they didn't have volume one and I'd prefer to start there. This independent bookstore has been a pop-up bookstore since 2023 and had its grand opening in October of last year. They are located next to a popular coffee shop that is loved by the community. They sell new and used books. The used books are color-coordinated at the top of each shelf. They also sell gifts, stickers, bookmarks, and at the checkout counter, you'll find a passport book where you can track your reading journey. It's really cute. Be sure to grab your free bookmark on your way out. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They definitely don't mind taking a moment to help you find what you're looking for.

My wedding was planned for January 2027, and we toured the venue in November 2025. We loved the space and were excited about the possibility of hosting our wedding here. After the tour, I attempted multiple times to get in touch to officially book our date. I sent emails and made phone calls, but received no response for a couple of weeks, turns out a family emergency had happened so I told him to take his time and be with his family. We finally heard back on December 2. A contract was then sent on December 5, but it contained incorrect names and incorrect information, which understandably needed to be corrected before moving forward. On December 22, I received a follow-up email stating: "Hi Kim, I didn't receive an email that had your requested changes to the contract. Just send it and we will do our best to make requested changes and accommodate your concerns. Thanks." At this point, communication again went silent, which I initially attributed to the holidays. Wanting to move things forward, I reached out again on January 3. What happened during that phone call was shocking and completely uncalled for. Jonathon Starkey was incredibly rude, raised his voice at me, and hung up on me twice. This behavior was completely different from our earlier interactions, which had all been pleasant and professional. During the call, he accused me of being argumentative and rude -- accusations that were entirely unfounded. I remained calm and simply tried to clarify the situation and move forward. Without warning, he then stated that our wedding date had been cancelled. This came as a complete shock. At no point prior to this had there been any hostility, conflict, or indication that our date was in jeopardy. In fact, we had expressed multiple times how excited we were to work with Peanut Butter Warehouse and looked forward to hosting our wedding there. To make matters worse, I later spoke with the owner -- his father, Jerry Starkey -- and unfortunately the unprofessionalism continued. He repeatedly interrupted me, showed no interest in hearing my concerns, and made it clear that he did not care that his son had treated a potential customer in this manner. There was no apology, no accountability, and no attempt to resolve the situation. This confirmed that the issue is not just with one individual, but with how this business is run as a whole. The way this situation was handled was deeply unprofessional and extremely stressful. Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime events, and venues should understand the importance of clear communication, respect, and professionalism -- especially when couples are planning years in advance. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Peanut Butter Warehouse to anyone planning an important event. Poor communication, incorrect contracts, and aggressive behavior are not things any couple should have to deal with while planning their wedding.
