The Witchery is a great store with a large variety of products, including books, stones, herbs, candles and too many things to mention. Clyde the owner is friendly and helpful and they wrapped all my purchases so that they would travel safely. Their assortment of jewelry, books and statuary is exceptional. Like others have said, dude behind the counter is straight up rude and seems to like scaring customers off. I was looking around at some boxes and candleholders hoping to find someone I liked. I didn't realize the glass tealight holder wasn't connected to the base and when I turned it to see the price it tumbled out. Nothing broke just knocked over a decorative tree thing and as I was fixing things he barked "HEY" at me. Then stopped what he was doing with his current customers ran over and aggressively said "what the hell are you breaking here!?" 1. Did you hear anything break tf 2. If a customer breaks something first trust that they will want to remedy the situation in a peaceful manner before causing a scene these are just basic retail things?? Yes, I knocked something over and made a noise but this rush to judgement and creating chaotic energy just isn't ok. I left immediately. There are plenty of other metaphysical and crystal shops in the area who have people willing to greet and help you. Judging from other reviews barking at customers is normal. Great shop for everything that is cool and stuff. Always has a good incense selection, Great books about spirits and ghost and stuff. Stones, and on special occasions that have palm reading. Staff is very nice and informative. Only gripe is the parking, but every place on the strand has bad parking. read more

Came into this store on Friday to look around. We were told to come back Saturday or Sunday for a reading. Came back Saturday and had a wonderful reading. I wish I'd gotten the woman's name! I called one day to see if they carried certain items. The guy on the phone was rude. Their website isn't very useful so before i made a 1.5 hour trip to Galveston i wanted to make sure they carried what i was looking for. A few months later me and my boyfriend decided to go down there to check it out, but on the day their dog died and the whole shop was closed down. If you're traveling a long distance i would suggest calling beforehand to make sure they will actually be opened. We just stick with going to the Magick Cauldron or to Old town spring for our things. Shoppe owners seem to be much nicer there. You would think Houston would have more selection of shops read more

Many glittering and fragile items, beacon and entice, scents, herbs, jewelry, candles, and paraphernalia for many occult, new age, hoodoo, and alternative religions and arts fill these shelves and books to educate line the whole of it. I've met both owners and found them to be both charming and welcoming, sharing knowledge when I ask questions, or letting me to browse as i wish. They try to host guest speakers, and readers, often aligning with either special times of year, or festivals in the area (Galveston has many walks and festivals) Parking is not as difficult as people think, it may require a short walk if the spots directly in front are full, but the Strand is such a beautiful and intriguing place, one can only find even more amazing things to look at, and or do. I have walked this path for many a year, this is one of the few places that I will return to again and again. read more

I have been coming to The Witchery since it first opened back in 2009 - while I was a wee teenager - and it has been like a second home ever since. My Dad and I stumbled upon it during one of our routine trips to Galveston, and I knew without a doubt we had to check it out. I fell in love immediately and made it a point to always add this spot to our visits. The atmosphere is so inviting, the aroma that fills the store is calming, the entire aesthetic and design is perfect, - down to the little details - and the wide variety of products is fantastic. This place has been my go-to for the jewelry, incense, gems, crystals, art (pretty much everything), and my overall wellbeing. Clyde and Kim have always provided the best customer service and have been nothing but sweet. Not only as professional business owners but as wonderful human beings too. I went to this shop today, because I've been in several times before and have always enjoyed it, as well as I was looking for a specific book that I thought they might have. Anyway, I grabbed some little astrology book and walked about a foot from the shelf and quietly read a paragraph to my boyfriend about his sun sign, enjoying the products and material, when the owner yelled at me in front of the entire store to put the book away and buy it before I look at it. When I glanced up shocked, he just glared at me. So I silently set the book down and we decided to leave. As I was walking out he flew out from behind the counter and yelled, "That doesn't go there young lady!!". I'm almost 26 years old. After all this, I found out from a local store his name is Clyde. I am NEVER called to write reviews, but he chastised me in front of his entire store, over a book I may have purchased. So I gave him a rating on Facebook and left a comment. He deleted my comment, and has been fighting with me all night instead of apologizing or at least respectfully dissolving the situation. Luckily, the rating comment is still there for anybody to see. Poor Clyde, doesn't have a clue. I would never go to this store if I were you. He did say there is a sign about looking at the books, that I admittedly did not see. However, I would think a small business owner might politely point that sign out, or better yet up-sale and encourage a customer's interest in his product so that I might actually buy it and make him some money. Such a horrible and disappointing experience. Also, just to add, the book I was looking for is about the Sabian Symbols (360 Degrees of Wisdom) and when I asked if they had it, he walked me over to the occult and secret society section, having no idea what the symbols even are. Definitely did not display a general or refined knowledge of astrology vs tarot vs new age material. read more

Went here for the first time today after hearing good things about it. While the shop is well stocked and the items seem of good quality I can't recommend shopping there because of the staff. The young woman at the counter was condescending and rude when helping us. Asking for the price of an item should not be met with attitude (and no, they were not easily posted). She seemed fine with other customers but for whatever reason she was short with us. I bought some herbs for a project and got out of there without buying anything else. It's a real shame; I wanted to like this place because it's the closest metaphysical shop to me and they really did have some good items I wanted to purchase. I'm going to stick to Magick Cauldron or Midtownmojo and recommend you do the same. It's a bit of a drive if you live on the south side of Houston but the owners and staff have always treated me with respect and to me that's worth it. read more
