Not sure why such high stars for this place. It is ok, and a good price, but not one of the best restaurants in Cape May. We shared a couple of appetizers, the crab cakes and the spicy sausage. Again, it was ok, but not the best crab cakes around as others have noted. For the main entree we got the salmon. It was a little dry, but not bad overall. And we did try the duck fries. Not sure what I was expecting, they were good, but not amazing. It was a cute place, cozy, and the waitress was really sweet. There isnt a kids meal, its cash only, byob, no deserts, but a little surprise at the end. It is relatively inexpensive. $8 or so for each app, and mid-upper teens for the entree. So we got out of there for $38, not including the tip. Overall, a quaint place to go for a decent meal, that wont cost a lot. But if you are looking for a great meal, and less worried about the price, there are a lot of better options in Cape May. read more

This is our third time eating at YB. Quality has definitely decreased. We ordered the Duck Fries for an app which was by far the best thing we ordered. Crab cakes had way too much filler and did not care for the Mediterranean couscous. DDD Turkey dinner was good. Turkey was moist and dressing was good as well but on the sweet side. It was mostly dark meat which gave it a very strong flavor. I ordered the tuna. Which was good but it was cold. Overall disappointing meal which was not worth the money. We haven't had anything this good in Cape May in a very very long time. BYOB, delicious and very accommodating to our requests for substitutions. The pork belly was unreal, crab cake was awesome. The Greek salad was so good I asked my husband to go pick up some more for me tonight:). We both had the filet, it was cooked perfectly. The green beans were incredible, the asparagus fantastic. First off the Peanut Butter Chocolate Bomb is HEAVENLY! Truly an amazing dessert. So so good. You can't go wrong ordering this one. The Spicy Feta with Pita is wonderful. Really great dish. The Tuna and soba noodles are really great too. Food is all very fresh and flavorful. Doesn't seem like anything is at all lacking in anything. And I really enjoy that. Service is really great and staff was very kind and on point with being so attentive. I really appreciated it. The energy here is nice and I truly never leave here disappointed. This is my first time writing a review on a restaurant, but I felt compelled to let others know about my experience:) My son and I tried this place this morning for breakfast. We got there when it opened for the day, and were the only ones there for awhile. I think they did just about everything wrong! It took awhile to get our drinks - waters, and coffee for me. I asked for cream for my coffee and finally went to the back to get it. My coffee was cold. I asked for another one, and it was warm, but not hot... (I love a hot cup of coffee in the morning!). Also, my cup was cracked in two places. My son ordered an apple juice, so I asked for a small juice. It came in a huge glass. I ordered their healthy omelette but didn't want the potatoes or toast and asked for fruit instead. The waitress said they didn't have fruit. I asked about the strawberries that come with the french toast. She said they have to save those for the French toast. So then, I was tempted with potatoes and toast ( just ate two bites of potatoes :) I thought my son may want some toast, so I asked for butter but never got it. My son ordered the pancakes.. I asked for the small portion, and they didn't have one. So we ended up taking most of it home. I didn't see a sign that they didn't take credit cards, so I tried to pay with one, but was lucky to have enough cash. The food was ok, but clearly, this place needs some help with getting things right. read more

Very disappointed in the salmon entree tonight...literally only ate about half of it as it tasted "off" and was not at all like the salmon enjoyed on previous visits. The soba noodles with sesame sauce served with the tuna entree were great, much better than the pesto couscous served with the salmon which was very ordinary. Visited YB for breakfast 2 days ago. Slow, incompetent service, average food and an angry phone call from Yianni the owner, who cursed me out for tipping appropriately. Here are the facts and outcomes: 1) hostess was wonderful in managing expectations and getting us a table after a bit of a wait 2) waiter (who ended up being the owner's son) passed by saying he will be back after we had already been waiting about five minutes without water or anything, saying he will be back. Came back in a minute and took our order. Didn't see him again until the check. Every other time someone else took care of us in rotating order. 3) 15 minutes to get coffee from FIVE waitstaff for 12 tables. Arrived hot in glass, so couldn't pick them up. Didn't come with spoons for sugar and we had to ask 3 times to get them, as well as to get an actual cup so that the scolding coffee wouldn't be spilled. Water ordered without ice came with ice. 4) 25-30 mins to get an omelet, pancakes and French toast in a 12 table restaurant that by that point had only 4 tables that haven't gotten food. Omelet was half done with mostly raw onions and somehow came out cold. Pancakes were and French toast were warm and tasty though. 5) getting attention of these 5 ppl on staff was a big challenge. Really disorganized and lots of them just standing around without a clear picture of what they are supposed to do. Wanted to order something else but after 5 mins trying to get someone'a attention and then getting an answer that she needs to check with the kitchens, decided against more waiting. 6) having received a stressful, long and disorganized service, we left no tip, just the change from the bill. Yes, I know some will say you should always tip but I disagree. How else to show that you should EARN a tip?? 10% just says you are a cheapskate or didn't have any more $$$. This country is built on the principle of working for a tip, taking care of your customer. In our case, we were just passed like a tennis ball from one waiter to another. And guess what? The owners son actually ran out after my husband and kept shoving ten cents at him, saying that my husband needs it more. My husband said no thank you. The guy kept saying "I insist" and pressing. Finally my husband said to stop and don't be an asshole about it. Need to work for a tip, doesn't just happen. 7) the kicker - later that night, I got a call on the number I left with the hostess from the owner. My first thought he actually cared to find out why no tip. But after my brief explanation, he cursed me out in no uncertain terms, screaming that we are not ever allowed to leave no tip or call his son an asshole (even he was being one). Apparently there can be no opinion about anything friends. 8) on the way from the bathroom, which is kinda cute, I saw what is a blatant Kitchen violation - totally dim kitchen, all workers working practically in the dark. I don't know how they manage anything in that cramped and dark kitchen. That alone deserves a citation. So word of advice. Enjoy the slow and stupid service, leave a generous tip after 1.5 at your table to avoid an angry call from Yianni the owner. Probably applies to George's down the street too. read more

This is a delightful restaurant located right on Beach Avenue between Perry and Jackson. This was just a 6-minute walk from our B&B on Columbia Avenue. It is relatively small - about 40 seats. We went there for dinner on a Friday evening and made a phone reservation, which I recommend. This is a BYOB - we brought a bottle of Tempranillo. We were a party of two. A one-page menu with good selections. We shared a Swordfish Taco appetizer. There were four tacos - filled with swordfish with a sweet salsa inside thin crispy shells - tasty and a good start. We ordered grilled shrimp on a bed of greens and Mahi on greens and sweet potato puree. Shrimp and fish were buttery and tasty. The sauteed kale and greens were uber delightful - great spices and very well balanced. The sweet potato puree was very tasty as well. Ask for a dish with that sauteed kale/greens and you will be happy that you did. The entrees were priced at about mid-20s. They now accept credit cards. Overall - it was a great meal. Came here after seeing positive reviews. Had the chorizo flatbread which had way too much going on. The mix of blue cheese, pesto and chorizo was not pleasing and was just heavy and salty. The crab cakes were chock full of crabmeat but sadly tasted fishy. The turkey with cornbread stuffing was delicious and saved the meal. The ambiance is ok as is the service. After 2 average dinners in Wildwood, NJ, I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. Salad was huge and delicious. Duck and sauce was delicious, though it may work better with something other than noodles. My wife got grilled Dijon chicken, which she thought was very tasty as well. The price was also lower than the 2 prior restaurants we visited in the area, though make sure you bring cash, since they don't take credit. read more

I visited the YB for the first time in 2013, and had the DDD Turkey. it was a dish that was so unique and delicious that I never forgot it. fast forward to 2020, I ordered it again and it was just as wonderful - rich and indulgent confit turkey over cornbread stuffing, with crunchy, fresh, lightly-pickled vegetables to offer some relief. wow! this was also one of my first times eating inside again since COVID and I felt totally comfortable with their table spacing. our server was so sweet, immediately opening our wine (LOVE that it's BYOB!!), offering advice on the menu, and just generally making us feel welcome. will absolutely return next time we're in Cape May! read more

A last minute reservation on a visit to Cape May. Selected it in a whim. Took three children with and we had a great family dinner. Small, quaint, and right on the beach. We started with apps ( sword fish tacos & crab cakes) both amazing. For entrees we had the tuna, crab cakes, and steak frites. All amazing but the steak might have been the best. If we got to try the food maybe this review would have been more positive. We went there at 8.30 and gave our name/number for a table. They said the wait was about an hour, maybe less. We decided to wait. After an hour without receiving any call we went back and found that the place was closed. It would have been better for everyone if they had just told us they didn't have tables. Again, I cannot say anything about the quality of the food, but certainly the service deserved the lowest grade possible. read more

Hate to do this because I love George's Place however, I was very disappointed with YP. Ordered the Steak Frites (translation- expensive Steak and fries) medium rare and it came out quivering raw with absolutely zero flavoring. Not even a hint of seasoning. Having to send back a $28 Steak is sacrilegious. My wife ordered a beet salad and what she got was about 3/4 cup chopped beats mixed with some goat cheese. Not bad if you really like beets however my wife, who does not like beets, was hoping for at least a few greens as well. Not impressed by their dinner. Out of the few items on the small menu my husband wanted steak frites which turned out to not be available. My chicken dish was supposed to come with a vegetable which was a couple of pieces of warm radish and cucumber-very strange. I ordered the duck fat fries, which didn't tastes the slightest bit like duck. Maybe they ran out of that too? It was very dark in there, so dark that we could barely see our food. I doubt the cooks could see in the open kitchen which also was dimly lit too. I was worried my chicken was undercooked since it was bone in, so I avoided eating the part near bone since it looked a little pink. To top it all off my husband got severe food poisoning from the pork, which was most likely undercooked or contaminated. Has the food inspector been here recently? read more

This was a MAJOR disappointment ! Having eaten at George's Place this week and at Sean's for years (the previous restaurant at this property) I had somewhat high expectations. Essentially this is truck stop or food truck food with a slight Mediterranean flare. Setting is austere with retro plastic chairs. With a 6pm arrival the server warned us that they had already run out of bib lettuce, and also needed to substitute dijon for the ground mustard on the chicken. Also told us to hold on to our forks because they were running low. This was at 6pm ! It seemed the kitchen had no lighting which as a chef made me a bit nervous. There are no specials so what's left on the already basic menu is what you get. Kefte' appetizer was essentially over-done sliders with some creative veggie garnish on top and a slick of tzatsiki on the bottom. No detectable seasoning from any region that would term the dish Kefte. Swordfish tacos made with fried wonton sheets were interesting but lacked opinion without a requested bottle of Sirancha. Mac & Cheese poppers were good and perhaps the only veggie option other than salad. But again, this was truck stop or pub food. Green salads were typical. I have two vegetarians in the family and unlike Georges Place YB is NOT a place for creative vegetarian cuisine. I asked if they did any vegetarian options (for non-fish eating veg-heads) and the answer was "sorry". Herb crusted chicken was dry and hidden under what appeared to be a full bushel of chopped parsley, Flank steak ordered medium rare arrived medium, tough and not fully sliced...again no apparent seasoning. It was served atop a pile of soggy duck fat fries that I was told had gruyere topping....No a sign of that unique sharpness. Fingerling potatoes were decent but not spectacular. I wish we had gone back to their older brother George's Place again where the service was excellent and the variety incredible (especially for the vegetarians). I would chalk our YB visit up to being just a bad night, but I'm not convinced that's the case. DO NOT make this your choice for that special dinner in Cape May !! read more

Completely disappointed in this restaurant. We had always wanted to give this place a try but never got around to it until last week when we went to have breakfast at their sister restaurant Georges. Georges had a long wait so we walked over to YB. No wait, we were thrilled! Menu looked similar to Georges so we both ordered an omelette. When the food came out it looked great! We then asked for some ketchup and this is where it all went south. The waiter brings us a bottle pf ketchup that is pretty much empty. I wasnt happy about it but decided to open the bottle anyway. Besides the entire bottlw being sticky and covered with who knows what , as I took the cap off the opening of the bottle and all inside the cap was covered with black nastiness. I call the waited over and tell him i need a new bottle. He takes the bottle to the back and grabs all the other ketchups and goes in the back. I knew exactly what he was doing. Sure enough he comes back with a bottle full and dripping wet and water bubbles in the ketchup. He tells me its a new bottle. I told him they were probably all like that. He said yea. So he lied and told me it was new. How disgusting! That is a total health violation. You cant mess around with cleanliness of food. Someone could get seriously ill. What if someone who was going thru cancer treatments came in to eat and already had a compromised immune system? They could become seriously ill from that. Ill never go back there again. Seriously , how hard is it to maintain a clean ketchup bottle!!! read more

We went with two other couples for the second seating on opening night for YB (Younger Brother) on Beach Avenue. Peter is the younger brother of John who owns and runs George's Place - a few doors up. A great Greek family affair on this block. Peter trained under Perrier etal. in PHL and has since moved on to CM full time. The space is the former Sean's. Last evening's tasting menu was a good start - a celebrity cook off between Peter and John - tzatziki with squid ink and avocado with plum tomatoes on toast points, lamb meat ball with tzatziki, fried mac and cheese balls with stewed tomatoes and jalapenos, grouper with dill & new potatoes with pureed artichokes, a beef brisket sundae with mashed potatoes BBQ sauce and panko crumbs, and Mahi Mahi with candied onions and bacon. Desert was baked butter cake with Greek yogurt & honey with almonds. A small menu offering breakfast, lunch and dinner options is planned and should be a good option for CM- looks innovative and we all liked the variety of flavors and ingredients. Decor was all done by the brothers and their family and friends - keeping it simply but refined. Banquettes need a little more plumping and some back cushions and the music needs to match the mood - but for opening night and two packed seatings a great start. Service could use some refinement. Good things to come from this new starter. He's got a good role model in his big brother up the street. read more

We had the DDD Turkey sandwich, grilled salmon, a Greek salad, the jalapeño poppers, and a side of the duck fat fries and they were all awesome. After reviewing the menu outside, my husband and I decided to give this place a try. We own a home in Cape May Point and like to frequent restaurants in the area, especially new ventures. We waited a few minutes for service, which was awkward because there was no visible hostess station. Finally after a few minutes, a waiter came up and, with little apology, told us that the restaurant could not seat us because we had our child with us. According to him, it is YB Eat Place policy not to serve children under six after six. Now, my husband and I reviewed the menu before entering this establishment and nowhere did it indicate any policy as such. Further, I find it extremely offensive that a restaurant discriminates against children, especially in an area like Cape May. For a bar or nightclub, I can understand such a policy, but YB Eat Place is neither of these things. It will certainly not be a restaurant on our list of places to go on evenings when my husband and I, along with our visitors, and guests head out for an evening. Very disappointing. Y Eat Here is more like it. Ate here last year and the food was decent while the service was arrogant and slow (by design). This year tried to get in, but they did everything in their power to keep us away. We showed up without a resv. on Sunday because our original place fell through. They told us nothing for two hours (even though the place was empty) then when we came back two hours and twenty minutes later -- they were closed! At 8:15!! We stopped in the next night to ask how to get in -- they only take reservations the day of, starting at 8:30am. They made sure to grill me about whether or not I had kids; they don't accept kids under 6. O.K., fine (mine are teenagers). Then told me they close early "when it's slow" (well, maybe it wouldn't be slow if you were a better run place!) Called up @ 8:30 next AM and asked for reservation, they grilled me again about kids, then wouldn't let me reserve for 8:30 -- tried to get me to make it 8:00, I told them we were going to see a show on the boardwalk @ 7 that lasted until 8. She said "Maybe" they could do 8:15. O.k. I said, then she informed us cash only and BYOB...when I told the story to my wife she said I was crazy to give these people our money when they clearly didn't want us and were going to rush us out of there so they could go home early. She's right, there are too many GOOD places that will work for your dollar -- this isn't one of them, and (mediocre) trendy duckfat fries isn't a good enough excuse to reward these lazy, entitled restaurateurs. Disappointing. We come to Cape May every summer and have been going to YBs for breakfast several times each week since they have opened when we are here. This morning unfortunately will be our last. The food is great - when and if it arrives. We were the second table in when it opened and took us an hour to be served and we placed our order as soon as we got there as we know the menu. We thought our ticket may have been misplaced and after 30 min inquired with our waitress and got a rude response. There was no manager or anyone else to talk with and they seemed to care less about our long wait. When the food did arrive, one of the orders didn't even arrive and asking for check right away they even charged us for the missing order. We just wanted to get out as soon as possible and unfortunately will be our last visit to YBs. read more

My wife and I hardly eat out in the summer, because of our hectic work schedule. But when we want to treat ourselves, we always go to YB. The food and the service are consistently outstanding!
