You cannot go wrong with anything you order. Portions are very generous. We enjoyed a mushroom/Gorgonzola flatbread to start and then Arctic char with cauliflower. Everything that passed by our table looked amazing-Korean chicken wings, shrimp entree, halibut entree... They also gave 2 amuse bouches. We showed up for a reservation and even though they had previously called to confirm, we were turned away at the door because we had a sleeping child. Most of our food was as disappointing as the service. What was decent: macaroni and cheese poppers, served with diced/stewed tomatoes and jalapeños. All other food was ok to tasteless. Both the mahi mahi and tuna were totally bland even though the sauce around it had taste, the fish themselves were a bit odd-- almost like how tofu has no taste. The flat bread with chorizo and cheeses had disproportionally too much topping for the flat bread. Our waiter gave me a sketchy feeling as he seemed to recommend the food items that were more pricey. For example: Our kids ordered chicken breast with French fires and the waiter insisted they each needed their own even though our table ordered two appetizers. When they arrived, each plate had two 5-7oz breasts and while I am normally pleased with a generous portion, he lied to us as I don't know any children who would want to eat 10-14oz of grilled chicken breast in one sitting. My husband called him on this, expressing his disappointment and he without hesitation removed one from our bill. Well, that was cool until he took the liberty to add the gratuity for us, even though we are only four people. Sketchy. Water glasses went empty without being filled and the staff, besides the young perky hostess outside, did not seem happy to be there. This place exceeded our expectations!! We saw the reviews and the older ones were mediocre, however, the more recent reviews were good. So, based on the more recent reviews my family and I decided to try it. Our server was amazing!! He is the cousin of the owner and he was a pleasure to be around. He was honest, friendly, and very informative. As apps we got the fried Mac n cheese bites, swordfish tacos, and duck fries! All were Amazing !!! For entrees : each person got something different - the duck breast was a hit! The cod and mahi mahi were delicious . Cod was so flaky and the mahi was tender and tasty. My mother got the chicken which she loved and my mother-in-law got the crab cakes ..again amazing . For our dessert we were gluttons and decided to share the carrot cake, lemon cake, and waffles with Nutella. The lemon was good, but by far the carrot cake was amazing ! We told our waiter how much we loved it and he comes back with another piece on the house . They are so sweet there ! We've been going to Cape May for close to 30 years now and there has never been anything even close, in Cape May, to the YB Eat Place...never! Of all the restaurants I've ever eaten in NOLA, in New Orleans, may be the only one that beats it. The YB Place is very reasonably priced, portions or much more than generous. My wife had the salmon and loved it. I had the DDD Turkey and what a taste! It's hard to pick one, was the turkey the best, or the stuffing, or the cranberry sauce? Scott R called it amazing in his review, hey Scott...AMAZING! I don't know who the chef is but he or she is welcome to my house this Thanksgiving and Christmas and I hope you don't mind cooking! We did start with the Tuna Tacos, tasty and tangy, light enough not to intrude on the main course. At the end of the meal we were served a complimentary chocolate mousse, again tasty and light, excellent! This is a BYOB or you can stop at the Rusty Nail first, like we did, and enjoy a beverage or three before walking up the street to the YB Place. By the way, we've been here for breakfast and that is equally fantastic. The YB Place is now our #1 favorite restaurant, we're looking to visit Cape May again after Labor Day and dinner at the YB Eat Place will be a must. This place was quite a find! Although in a nice location it still looks hidden away. Atmosphere very simple, server was friendly and very knowledgeable. Came for lunch and had the Cobb salad. I'm not normally huge on salads but this was yummy! An excellent portion size and it filled me up well. Also shared an order of the duck fat fries which was delightful! Prices were also extremely reasonable. My salad I think was about $8. Lunch for 2 with fries and drinks totaled less than $20. The place is quite small and also is cash only. This is a very nice place to eat in Cape May. Its not a very big place, but has a nice location across from the promenade in the center of Beach Ave. There is nice, clean decor with big photos of NYC scattered throughout. Even better, its actually sanely priced which is not the easiest thing to find in Cape May. You can also bring your own wine, which is always a good thing. I had the Cod, a fish which I rarely order when dining out. This choice, however, was a smart one as the filet that came out was thick, perfectly cooked, not at all fishy, and accompanied by a very tasty sauce. I also tried the crab cakes, which were huge round snowglobe sized babies, and they were delicious as well. Service was attentive but non-intrusive. Well worth it. read more

I was in cape may for memorial day weekend and so glad I stumbled upon this gem before heading back to nyc. The decor was really classy and upscale when compared to the other bars and restaurants nearby. Bf got the DDD turkey which was so moist and juicy! The chorizo stuffing was just as good and til this day he still raves about this dish. I got the chorizo flatbread as my entree and it was pretty good. I also ordered the watermelon and veg as a side which was very refreshing and cleansed my palate after eating it. Its a mixture of watermelon chunks, cucumber slices, parsley, rice vinegar, and sugar. Sooo goood. After we were done we received complimentary dessert shooters which tasted like yoohoo chocolate milk. This is an awesome restaurant and if I'm ever back in cape may I would def go back! Absolutely fantastic. This was my first meal in cape may and it set a very high bar for the restaurants here. The other yelpers rave about the duck fat fries - I did not think the flavor was anything hugely out of the ordinary, but the fries are substantially sized and very well fried. Get the small if you are less than four, unless you're really really hungry! We got the sword fish tacos which I think are a not to miss! So crunchy and the fish is so very well seasoned! As for the entrees, we got the mahi mahi and the tuna. The tuna was fantastic but the couscous that went with the mahi mahi was perhaps the surprise highlight. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Peter and his team catered our wedding in Cape May. I can honestly say that had we gone with another catering group, I don't think our wedding would have been nearly as much fun and I know I would have been a lot more stressed out. My new husband and I love good food and consider it to be one of the more important parts of a wedding reception. Our plan was to serve our guests a dinner of tapas style bites. We wanted the food to be plentiful, unique, and delicious. Peter put together an amazing menu (lobster bisque shooters, thanksgiving in a cup-turkey confit with chorizo stuffing and cranberry jam, pork belly crepes, chicken in waffles, swordfish tacos, mini crab cakes, soba noodles, just to name a few favorites) and he was incredibly easy to work with. Throughout the process if I even mentioned that we still needed something, he jumped on it and took care of it completely. Fast forward to the day of our wedding. Beach wedding turns quickly into a makeshift indoors wedding due to terrible weather. Peter's team never flinched. They handled all of the set up flawlessly and with an amazing, upbeat attitude. His team handled the bar tending as well and managed our overly enthusiastic wedding guests (and overly enthusiastic bride and groom) with a smile and incredible service. At the end of the night, my new husband decided that late night pizza sounded delicious. The catering team jumped on the idea and shortly after boxes of delicious pizza arrived (and then quickly disappeared into the mouths of our alcohol laden guests). During the wedding and now a month later, all of our wedding guests are GUSHING about the food. Every guest has a different favorite and they were all blown away by the service. This restaurant is by far the best I've had at Cape May. As a note it is BYOB. The appetizer menu is more fancy than the entrees. Most of the entrees feature a large cut of meat, excellently prepared, with some amazing sides. While I was there I sampled: DDD Turkey (with excellent chorizo cornbread stuffing) - a mostly dark meat piece of succulent turkey (I believe also cooked in duck fat) on top of the cornbread with cranberry jam. amazing Steak with Duck Fat Fries - I tried this off off my girlfriends plate and it was phenomenal as well. You could really taste the hint of duck! mac and cheese poppers- this is by far the best mac and cheese I've ever had at a restaurant. hands down swordfish tacos - these are great! three tacos in a hard shell. really enjoyed them It's a really small but homey place where our every need was instantly attended to by our waiter, the owner, or both (as they were both standing within a few steps the whole meal). I really enjoyed the atmosphere and how pleasant and friendly everyone was, especially the owner. We had a gluten-free member of our party and the owner came by and talked through the member with her to let her know what had gluten, and what could be prepared gluten free and were more than accommodating. As others have said, there are no desserts on the menu. However, with the check we were all given a tall shot glass filled with homemade chocolate mousse which was amazing (and complementary!) Really excellent and the prices are a steal! It is unbelievably cheap for what you get (the steak dinner was only 16 dollars, and a nice cut). Just remember it's cash only! read more

I am a fan of this establishment's other restaurants (George's in particular) so I thought I would give this a try. I thought the food was creative, well cooked, and had a sophisticated flavor profile. It is probably one of the closest things you'll get to modern high end dining in Cape May. (Not faulting the traditional American and Seafood fare of other restaurants, YB just has that unique creativity found in more modern, fusion based offerings). I stuck with two of the starters, mostly because the entrees were quite pricey (see below). I had the sausage bao buns which featured a vegan sausage alternative. I had never had vegan sausage before as I am not vegan or vegetarian, but I gave it a try and it was delicious. I also had the pork belly starter which was cooked perfectly and was tender and crispy. Service was great as well. I would come back. Only reason for 4/5 and not 5/5 is the price. The food would be appropriately priced if this restaurant was in NYC or Philadelphia, not in Cape May. read more

We had a nice dinner here. It wasn't WOW but it was pleasant and the service was excellent. We had the summer salad which was delicious, and the Mac and Cheese balls which were enjoyable. Steak Frites were so-so; I thought the steak was a little bland and the sauce for the fries tasted good but the consistency was a bit mealy. This spot is fantastic! We booked reservations for 7:15 using the Open Table app. The location is easy to miss but so charming inside. The ambiance and decor was modern and posh. The staff is very hospitable and the restaurant even offers free appetizer bites (tomato basil soup in espresso cups and greek dolmas/stuffed grape leaves with gorgonzola sauce). We ordered the K&B which was simplistic yet the best salad I've ever had. It had crisp brussels, roasted pistachios, shaved parm, kale, and a delicious caesar dressing! The hamachi was fresh ceviche, avocado, on mini crisp tortillas. For mains we got the pork belly, scallops, and sea bass. Scallops were a tad too salty for my taste. The flavor and tenderness of the pork belly were incredible, bonus the crispy brussels sprouts came with it. The sea bass was so delicate and light with the lemon-y flavor. DO NOT go to this place. First off, it's cash only, which is odd considering the menu pricing and decor. We ordered the Herb crusted chicken for the entree. There was Dijon mustard slathered atop the chicken breast which is insanely spicy and unbearable to eat, even after wiping the mustard off. Imagine spreading pure wasabi onto chicken and taking a bite of it. Dijon mustard should have a slight kick to it, not give you a burning sinus attack. The waitress was able to accommodate by preparing the chicken again, sans mustard spread. Her attitude was not the best seeming stand offing not sincere. As for the sides, we had raw vegetables-onions that were raw and sautéed potatoes, which were also less than stellar. The 2 stars are mostly for the duck fat fries, which were tender and flavorful, along with the seasonal vegetable flatbread -- very well done. The flatbread tended to fall apart as there was too much cheese and toppings .Despite a disappointing entree, the appetizers have earned this dining experience the 2 stars. My husband and I had dinner here last night. The food was AMAZING!!! We were first given a gratis d'amuse bouche. It was a corn chowder. It was so wildly delicious that we didn't stop commenting on it for the entire time we were eating it. We then shared an appetizer that was a tuna/goat cheese flatbread. Calling it that doesn't do it justice because it had so many delicious flavors (including roasted capers and avocado) all on a delicate cracker-like bread. We then shared the halibut/asparagus entree and the shrimp/cauliflower entree. We can not imagine enjoying these delicately, scrumptiously flavored meals any more than we did. They were excellent! Yb's has been a stop for us in Cape May 3 years in a row now, usually for breakfast. It has always been one of a kind and very good, but on this last trip I was less than pleased. To start this time around the waitstaff was very smug and impatient. They scoffed when we asked for cream for our coffee and the general demeanor of the staff was not very positive. The food here is usually delicious and there are definitely amazing go-to's like the breakfast flatbread. This time around everyone's food was plated very sloppily. Everything just looked thrown on the plate and messy. I decided to get something different and ordered the Alaskan omelet, with poached salmon, capers, red onion and cream cheese. It again came out looking like a mess, and it tasted awful. The omelet was filled with capers, so many it was nauseating. There was barely any salmon, only a few tiny pieces, not even enough for taste. There was also no trace of cream cheese. The capers overpowered everything and I had to send it back and got the grilled cheese instead, which was still messily prepared but delicious. I was disappointed but would go back again to give them another shot. read more

Came here for dinner after we went whale watching and made the reservation through open table. They called to confirm about three hours ahead of time. We were on time to check in and they told us, after waiting 5 minutes for a hostess, that the tables were running behind and she wasn't sure when we would be seated. The couple at the podium told us they were already waiting for 40 minutes and they had a reservation as well. Hostess didn't come back for 10 minutes, and didn't even give an update when she came, she then proceeded to avoid coming near us. Restaurants obviously get busy especially in the busy season down the shore, but respecting customers time is necessary if you want them to return. read more

What I've Had: Chorizo Scramble Would I go back?: For the Food = Yes for the Service = NO Story: My cousin proposed to his now fiance in Cape May and invited the family along for the weekend to celebrate with them. We came here for brunch the morning after. Logistically speaking they weren't very good about figuring out the table situation for our big party although it was quite simple based on my assessment - especially since there was only 5 other people in this albeit small restaurant. Food i would say was pretty solid in terms of taste and portions. Again - the service was lacking - they overwhelmed when by my means an un busy restaurant. Great spot for even greater meal! Wife and I ordered the amazing duck fries, grilled peta, spicy feta, olives, swordfish tacos, Greek salad for apps just to start...my wife's pregnant... Portions were great on all of the above but we still decided to order meals since everything was really good so far I got the tuna and my wife got the crab cakes...although we were both full, both meals were so delicious we kept on eating! Found this cute BYOB place through Yelp. We ordered the Mac and Cheese popper for appetizer and it was delicious. Who knew plum tomatoes would go so well with mac and cheese. As for entrees, we ordered the Cod, Salmon and Crab cakes. Everything was spot on flavorful and cooked to perfection. All in all, great food, service, ambiance, prices and best of all it's BYOB. Got dinner here the other night, wasn't a big fan of this place. The outdoor setup wasn't the best as the table was dirty and slanted, also too close to other tables. The music here was very weird and annoying. I got the ahi tuna with soba noodles. The tuna was ok, I've had better. The only good part was the soba noodles. Also the tuna portion was small. Wish they gave more tuna than noodles. When in cape May, don't bother going here, go to Blue Pig tavern! This place isn't worth the bother. read more

YB is a quaint restaurant facing the beach in Cape May. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but the food is an absolute must when you visit. Our waitress was a stellar superstar. She was super informative, so sweet, and she gave us some great recommendations for what to do around. Our food was impeccable. Each dish that our table ordered was above expectations. The salmon and cod we ordered was so fresh. Our appetizers were amazing and packed so much flavor. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here for dinner and I hope you give this place a try if you can! Walked in as a family of 5 and was seated right away. The servers were friendly and the place was clean. Unlimited breakfast for $9 ($6 for kids under 6) sounds good, but most people will not be able to eat more than one. The chocolate chip pancakes and waffle with Oreo topping were delicious - very fluffy and flavorful. The French toast was also above average as were the omelettes. The coffee was just average. I have always found the food great, if you can see it. The room is very dark making it very hard to see the menu and food. Looking at the lights I see them turned up not on the table. Very dark areas led me to believe something is hiding. I have eating more than 18 times at YB with the pork chop being my go to most of the time. If you go bring a light to see the menu, but you will enjoy the food for sure. So it's 2017 July and the food is still the best in cape May. But I still need a flashlight to read the menu and see my meal. Good food, a go to in cape May for sure. read more

We had a wonderful experience at YB, from the owner Peter chatting with us, to Drago our waiter and the hostess Karrie bring us water as we waited outside for our table to be ready. We haven't had anything this good in Cape May in a very very long time. BYOB, delicious and very accommodating to our requests for substitutions. The pork belly was unreal, crab cake was awesome. The Greek salad was so good I asked my husband to go pick up some more for me tonight:). We both had the filet, it was cooked perfectly. The green beans were incredible, the asparagus fantastic. Came here with a large party last night and left rather unimpressed. It's the off-season, so we were easily able to get a same-day reservation, which was nice, especially because the restaurant is pretty tiny. The service was ok - none of the complaints of other yelpers there. The restaurant was very dark when we arrived at 5:45 though, and I was surprised that no lights or candles went on throughout our meal, making it very dark inside by the time we left (I get the trendy atmosphere, but it was a bit too dark for me). The food was just OK. We ordered appetizers to share, which were mostly good, but not great. I thought the swordfish tacos were weird and lacked flavor. The duck fat fries were good but nothing special. Our waiter recommended the crab cakes, so I trusted him and went with them. Totally unimpressive - there was a decent amount of crab cake, but zero seasoning, and not enough tartar sauce to spread around. They came pushed off to the side of the plate, which I found odd, and served with a pesto couscous, which also lacked flavor. Bonus star for being a BYO (leading to large savings with a large party), but overall I wouldn't recommend it. read more

First off the Peanut Butter Chocolate Bomb is HEAVENLY! Truly an amazing dessert. So so good. You can't go wrong ordering this one. The Spicy Feta with Pita is wonderful. Really great dish. The Tuna and soba noodles are really great too. Food is all very fresh and flavorful. Doesn't seem like anything is at all lacking in anything. And I really enjoy that. Service is really great and staff was very kind and on point with being so attentive. I really appreciated it. The energy here is nice and I truly never leave here disappointed.
