Visiting a Yellow Deli is always an adventure and a unique experience. Katoomba, Australia, was my first, and it's still my favorite. This Yellow Deli had a similar vibe, with the same earthy and "Middle Earth" feel, but I wasn't a big fan of the "Long Islander" sandwich I ordered. The creamy cauliflower soup, however, was good, and the strawberry banana smoothie was delicious. Unfortunately, our waitress wasn't very friendly, which was disappointing. That said, I still love Yellow Deli and picked up a bunch of items from the shop inside, like their homemade teas and soaps. I'm always fascinated by the intricate detail and decor of Yellow Delis--it's truly unlike any other deli. I still don't fully understand their religious aspect or what they represent, but I'm just here for the food! Can't wait to explore more locations! read more

My grandchildren have been eating there and have rave reviews. For teenagers, it is usually fast food that satisfies their taste palate. We took them up on their offer to have lunch there. Our visit there was definitely not disappointing. The interior decor is warm and charming. All the furniture, including the table were made of natural wood in the natural state. The staff are warm and very friendly and genuinely making you feel you are welcome. We al ordered sandwiches and soda. I can't possibly recommend any particular sandwich because we all tasted each other's and one was better than the other. Their soups are homemade and delicious. The special for this day was tomato basil. Delicious! For dessert try the yogurt parfait - it's a god size and definitely delicious Highly recommend this restaurant. It's a food lover delight. Stopped in here for lunch after hiking with our dog. Because we had our mutt with us we specifically looked for options that allowed outdoor dining. It was also intriguing to try a "deli" located in this fairly rural location. My SO had the veggie burger and she thought it was one of the best she ever had - It was large and a reasonable price. I had a classic corned beef on rye sandwich which was good - certainly not 'overstuffed' but a decent amount of meat given the reasonable price ($8). We would definitely stop in again if back in the area. read more

The food was okay here. We ordered for takeout and waited by the entrance. The worker who took our order was nice but we could see through their open kitchen that one of the girls helping to prepare our food was maskless. Their salad was the most memorable. It tasted fresh and was loaded with a variety of veggies which we appreciated. Our cottage was a 5 min drive away and in that time both our sandwich breads became so soggy because they wrapped the very hot sandwich tightly in foil so it steamed itself. Food wasn't crazy special. It's just a sandwich. The chili was ok. Wasn't sure what kind of meat was used. It was warm rather than hot. The food is spectacular. It's homemade w so much love it's ridiculous. Every single thing we've (over ordered) has been unbelievably, mind-blowingly delicious. It's our son's favorite restaurant and we have eaten in some pretty amazing places in our day given we have lived all over the country (Denver, Boston, Manhattan, SF, etc). I think my son is right. The inside is cozy like a lodge at a ski resort. The pod work, the lighting. It's spotless including the restrooms. The family that owns it and cooks all the food is very friendly and offers samples every time we are there. So so worth the trip up to Oak Hill. It was a lovely experience at this restaurant. The staff was super friendly and the food was very clean and the Hazelnut coffee was so delicious. Too bad we were just passing by because this place would be such a nice place to hang out with friends and enjoy their food. We had the Ruben Sandwich, the chili and a peanut butter banana and honey sandwich. For dessert we had the most delicious sweet potato pound cake and cheese cake pie. Cool place. The inside is interesting, the service was excellent and food was good overall. I stopped for lunch and got a sandwich (New Yorker - pastrami sandwich), tea, and dessert for $15. The food was good overall, no complaints for an $8 pastrami sandwich. I like tea but don't love it and don't really want it when I go out to eat. You can get samples of their tea so I tried the Catskill Mint Cooler. The sample was good so I decided to get a cup of it. The more I drank it, the more I loved it. It was possible the best tea drink I've ever had. Definitely try the teas, I'm going to go back just because of that. read more

Thank goodness they are open during the annual bluegrass festival nearby. The bathrooms are clean and the air-conditioning and wifi are much appreciated. However the food could use a tune up. Overall it resembles diner food trying to be a little bit more. That more would be appreciated if it hit the mark. The coffee needs to have a taste and the cole slaw should not have the texture and flavor of bland mashed potatoes. The breads which are baked daily are generally good - especially as toast. However the sandwiches miss the mark with bland sauerkraut on the ruben and a almost no seasoning in the veggie burger. Glad they are there and open, wish the food was more of a draw. read more

Absolutely one of my favorite places to eat! The food is homemade and delicious, the people who run it, members of the Twelve Tribes, are sweet, caring people. Wonderful hosts, I had the pleasure of being a regular there, and they greeted us by name and remembered our favorites! They also host discussion meetings one night a week, have live music, show movies in the upstairs theater.....I can't say enough about this place! The sandwiches are fantastic, the quality of the food is top notch with generous portions. Their soups are unbeatable. Get a Deli Rose and you will swoon for the hot ketchup on it! The building is unique, with most of the wood used was pulled from the creek that runs behind the building. The store front sells natural soaps and sodas. If you don't go, you're missing out! Edit: they used to be open 24 hours, closed Saturdays, but they've changed their hours (since my best friend and I moved out of the area, I feel....we were there a LOT) They close at 2 PM on Friday and reopen 10 AM on Sunday, open 10 to 10 every other day. This place is a bit of an oasis. During the four days we were at Greyfox we ate here probably every day. It was hot as anything I've ever experienced for four days straight the first year we went and we went for the coffee and the air conditioning the first time and discovered that they have not only really great coffee, but amazingly good food. Everything we ordered there was excellent, from the yogurt parfait to sandwiches etc. The only reason I'm giving this four instead of five stars is because I'm really not into private businesses that bring religion/ideologies/politics into their space. I understand that this is America and people can do as they please, and the staff were not at all pushy about it, but it just made me feel a tad bit uncomfortable while eating there, like I was supporting something I didn't agree with. read more

Here's the thing, I thought I HAD ordered, but turns out, the kid who acted like he was taking my order wasn't, and then an older lady (his mom?) came over and said "We don't do orders like that anymore." What does that even mean? I can't ask a person with a tray and a notepad (not a waiter?) to take my order? This place used to be THE place to eat and hang out. The servers and hosts were gracious and caring. The crowd was lively and fun. Now the food stinks, the menu is limited and the service is awful It's gone WAY downhill. This place is really something completely different. Run by the quaint and quiet members of the 12 Tribes community, there's an air of spirituality and of home-grown goodness about the place. The food is fantastic, I tried both the poached eggs and the waffles with fruit and all were fresh, wholesome and tasty. The service is very slow and you have to be patient; this is no high-speed busy restaurant. We came in as a group of six first, with five more joining us, and despite the place being otherwise quiet, our server seemed a little overwhelmed by the large group, though he was very sweet. We had expected this so we had snacked beforehand-- I wouldn't recommend going here absolutely starving, because you're going to have to wait a while. The root beer was fantastic, and I'm not a fan of root beer generally. Also delicious was the hot apple cider and even the cup of joe was quite satisfying. I must recommend getting a pot of the honey & lemon jelly if you can, because it's remarkable-- and I don't even like honey that much. Overall we had a lovely, quaint experience here and it's the kind of place I would definitely bring family to experience. read more
