TLDR: Really enjoyed our meal. They Say That is a neighborhood Thai spot that has both traditional and a new take on a lot of familiar dishes. Definitely get the curry mac n' cheese with the salmon. I had wanted to check out this newer Thai spot in Bushwick. It's small but they have both more traditional dishes and some new creative ones. We tried the mushroom larb, crab rangoon, the curry mac n' cheese and the squid ink fried rice. The mushrooms had a nice delicate chew and plenty of spice, lots of acidity and the toasted rice powder which is the classic larb taste. The crab rangoon were extra large and packed with cream cheese and crab The mac n' cheese was the standout. A rich and velvety curry, cheesy but not overdone with al dente pasta shells. The pan-seared salmon was very delicious as well. Not a dish I would normally order but just really outstanding. The fried rice was good too but between the squid ink and salted egg sauce - it is very rich and a lot going on. The Thai iced tea was great, not too sweet. We just had a fantastic meal at They Say That. It has one of those menus that tipped me off to how good it was. Dishes like salted egg squid ink fried rice, Panang curry mac n cheese, and crab fried rice w/ lava omelette. We ordered the first two and the squid ink fried rice was one of the better dishes I've had in a while. Service was great as well with solid recommendations. I'd heard only good things about the new Thai spot in Bushwick, so naturally my friends and I had to check it out. We had made a reservation and were seated at the half booth, half table right by the window, which was great for natural sunlight. As our server gave us water and menus, one of the first things I noticed about the space were the framed images of red plastic chairs, decorating one of the wall which reminded me a lot of the Philippines. The inside is cozy, but not cramped and as the evening goes on, they dim the lights, light table, candles, and ever so slightly turn up the music (which was fire btw). After 8pm it honestly becomes quite a romantic, date night spot! Onto the drinks: my friends ordered 2 different flavors of high balls, and I ordered the Jasmine Cloud Foam. I really liked my drink, although it was a little rose tasting, which is not my favorite, the cloud foam was no joke! Everything else on the menu looked fun as well and I'd love to come back and just have drinks and apps here. For our starter, we had the Panko Crab Rangoon, Cube Chive Cake and the Papaya Salad with Avocado. The crab Rangoon was perfect, especially because it came with 3 pieces and there were 3 of us! It was reminiscent of Rangoon we all know and love but more decadent with wonderful filling and not greasy at all! I also really loved the chive cakes which were adorable little spongey squares. This is perfect to share and despite being deep fried, also didn't feel greasy at all. It honestly felt healthy . And the papaya salad is just a classic staple for a well rounded Thai meal in my opinion. The peanuts added a nice crunch and I even enjoyed my leftovers of the salad the next day. For our entrees we all shared the Crab Fried Rice with Lava Omelet and the They Say That Pad Thai with chicken. Holy moly these were good. While I'm a crab lover, I wasn't really in the mood for it on my fried rice that night, however I LOVED the omelet. I wouldn't let this sit though, as I believe our omelet became less "lava like" and more cooked as we waited to eat it. The rice itself had a wonderful flavor. The pad Thai was fantastic also and we all loved the chicken that was cooked on top. It almost had a smoked flavor to it and was so tender. Both entrees came with sauces that I really appreciated because they were SPICY. Finally, we wanted to try every dessert but settled on a scoop of their Coconut Ice Cream and one of their Black Sesame Ice Cream. Both were phenomenal but I have to say the coconut was my favorite. It tasted almost fresh?? And had some shreds of coconut in it. Was so good with the whipped cream on top. We ended up chatting a bit with the staff who graciously took our photo at the end of the night and offered us night cap shots on the house! This was an awesome way to end our nights and I really hope I get to come back here. If you're even thinking of getting thai food for dinner, come here immediately. read more

I was in the area and just had to come back here for dinner. There crab rangoon is just incredible. I would come back here for that alone. But of course that is impossible to do as their thai ice tea, pad thai, pad see ew and braised beef strew are all delicious. They really hit this restaurant concept out of the park. The best fusion thai you'll have! The panang curry mac n cheese was very good and delicious with the smoked salmon and pasta. The arancini was crispy and perfect with the curry. Had to test out if it was good with their pad see ew and wow it was delicious. The space was intimate and clean. The staff is super kind and friendly. Came back here for lunch and they have a great lunch special: $16.95 for a main dish that is upwards $25 during dinner & comes with a Thai tea/Thai coffee (normally ~$7) or veggie rolls. Very worthwhile, would be back again for this. Tried the pad Thai, pad kra pow, and salt and chili spicy Thai fried chicken. Favorite dish was pad kra pow. Pad Thai was quite saucy and on the darker side, which I enjoyed if you want a really forward flavor but erred on the saltier side. In a sea of v average Thai restaurants throughout Brooklyn, I feel so lucky to have this amazing thai fusion restaurant in my neighborhood. On the smaller side, but service is fast and staff are friendly. Good selection of cocktails with lots of Asian flavors. Can recommend the crab fried rice (the chili sauce on the side is dope), pad see ew, and the khao soi (per my meat-eating brother in law). Still need to try the panang curry mac, crab rangoons, and fried calamari but rest assured I will be coming back. read more

The food was a 9/10. The calamari was seasoned so well and had a great kick to it. The wings were also seasoned to perfection. I got the crab fried rice which was also very tasty. The sauces on the side for the wings and the calamari were so good. Highly recommend coming here read more

Great food, great staff. But every time I go in there the music is too loud (it's a cool restaurant, not a club) and in the winter it's too cold inside. My family and I are local and we'd go there a lot more if it decided it's a classy restaurant and that less is more with the music and if they could keep it warm in the winter. read more

They say that this is the best Thai restaurant in bushwick.... I say otherwise. Cute place, but the food was not what I expected based on the reviews. Real Thai flavors? Definitely not for my husband and I. I'm Thai & he's Colombian. Dishes were missing flavors. Food was not spicy at all and the server didn't ask about spice level for the papaya salad, which was interesting to us since every Thai restaurant we go to would usually ask. These Thai flavors were Americanized. My husband ordered a Rosé and it tasted like it was opened for a long time so we ended up switching that to a Sauv Blanc. On the menu we saw there was a Sauv Blanc from Argentina & one from France. He wanted the one from France but they never asked which he wanted and just brought him the Sauv Blanc from Argentina which was completely different in color than we are used to since we've never tried one from Argentina before (it was disgusting). They already made us feel like we were a bother asking to change the Rose. I asked to see the bottle of Sauv Blanc (just so we know to never order that anywhere) and the also seemed bothered. I could have sworn I heard them say "what do they want now" and other things as well but they were at a distance. I wanted to know what Riesling I had since I enjoyed it and I take notes of what bottles I try, but they made me feel uncomfortable to even ask again. If it was properly printed on the menu, that would have saved us the trouble but the "Chardonnay" was crossed out and they wrote in "Riesling," but no info on the vintage or region. We live right around the corner, but definitely won't be coming back. If you want real Thai food, Som Tum Der is the place to go. read more
