What a super cute cafe for a cup of coffee and deli food in North End! I came in during the snow storm around 9pm and the ambience of the place was super mellow, laid back, and had such a great atmosphere! The place had vintage decorations with newspaper imprinted in tables and other historic additions! The location is right in Little Italy so its perfect for after dinner or just a place to hang out! Nice cafe with great ambiance. The pastry section looked awesome, although I didn't try anything. It's a little bit expensive. I got two "large" iced lattes for $10.50. Mind you they were about 12 ounces each. The vanilla ginger latte was really good, even though the milk to coffee ratio was a bit off. Stopped in for a midday break while waiting for my buddy to get off work before we went to dinner. Just a block or two away from the Paul Revere House off the Freedom Trail, Thinking Cup is a nice long room, albeit with a little weird line setup. I ordered a cortado with a raw sugar and a croissant, and the girl at the counter said I could add sugar later. Well yes, but it dissolves a little better in the shot, dunnit? Anywho, the drink was tasty and looked great- before I sprinkled a little too much cinnamon on top, and the croissant was perfectly flaky. It was a nice little pick-me-up and enough to tide me over til dinner. There is ample seating, including a counter that runs about 2/3 the length the room, and plenty of small banquette seating. The only power outlets appeared to be under the counter, and there is no wi-fi. But it's cozy, and dark, and a perfect spot to just post up and get lost for a little bit in some baked goods and sweet, sweet nectar. read more

literally such a rip off. normally I love the thinking cup (I go to the one in Boston commons all the time) but I went here today and the matcha latte was pretty awful. Not only was it overpriced at $3.50 for a tiny small, but it wasn't even filled to the top (see picture -- id had a sip but you can see where the cup was filled up to). For such a small cup, they could have at least made an effort to fill it up... They also don't sweeten their matcha latte so you have to have to add sweetener yourself. It's way too foamy so you could barely taste any matcha whatsoever. Really disappointed; maybe it's just the matcha latte in general (it was the first time I'd ordered it) but won't but ordering it again nor returning to this location. read more

I ordered a vanilla cold brew, thinking the flavor would be brewed in. They probably put 2 shots worth of vanilla syrup in there. Came here on a recent visit to Boston and was disappointed we didn't find it sooner. The food and beverage selections were broad; service was quick; and plenty of space to find a place to sit. I'm dinging one star because our server--a pretty blond with a braid--was just too cool to work there. I did not think we were a high-maintenance order with a couple of pastries and a couple of coffees, but she was clearly irritated by having to stoop to serve us. I watched a couple of the other staff interacting with guests, and they seemed much more appreciative of customers, so I'm guessing we just drew the short straw. I love thinking cup. I have been to the one located in downtown and this one. Both are the definition of my dream coffee shop. I appreciate a place where I can relax over a cup of coffee and chat with a friend or even study. Thinking cup is the exact place. I love the music they play. If anyone likes early jazz like me, this is the place to visit! I like the oldies theme that this coffee shop portrays. This location is fairly new and the interior is pretty roomy. There are plenty of seating. Even during rush hour, I am sure you can find a spot. I like the lattes and iced coffees here. Also the sausage, cheese and egg english muffin is super delicious. The pastries are also really good. I also like how this location is on the street of where many Italian restaurants are situated. Whenever you want a study break, you can surely walk down the street for some gelato, mike's pastry or modern pastry, or even Italian cuisine. The only con about thinking cup is that there isn't free wifi. But I guess it is good because I won't be distracted when I am trying to study. I also don't see any wall outlets so you can't charge your laptop when it is low on battery. :( read more

After walking around seeing all the touristy stops on the freedom trail, my friends and I decided to stop and get something hot to warm up our deeply chilled bodies. Thinking Cup seemed like a good choice, since they had a huge menu selection and lots of space for people to sit. I ordered a hot chocolate but the ordering process was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. I told the lady I wanted the small size but then she started asking me if I wanted the French hot chocolate or if I just wanted it with milk or... I said with milk then she asked me what size I wanted again... Gah. At least my friend ordered a simple chai which involved no further questions. Our drinks came out pretty quickly but I was disappointed because they were only lukewarm and I was looking forward to a piping hot drink after freezing my butt off outside. :( at least the hot chocolate and the chai tasted good, but the cups were pretty small considering the prices. Also my friend ordered a bagel and they totally spaced out about it so when she asked them 15 minutes later they gave her a free soup with her bagel. They definitely need more people working here to keep up with the demands of the customers. Wow. What a special experience it is to walk into this cafe. From the chandeliers in the doorway by the entrance, to the long case of delicious looking pastries leading to the marble espresso bar in the back of the cafe everything is so pretty and well placed here. I happened by the other day to find that the head barista there was working on some custom drinks for an upcoming competition. He was very personable and even offered to let me try some of the coffee he was experimenting with. Too cool. If you're looking for a nice coffee place with great food, great ambience, and great service then you have to visit Thinking Cup. Easily one of the best coffee places in Boston. I also had a sausage, egg, and cheese english muffin sandwich that was far better than you would expect for a fairly standard option. It was pretty busy mid-morning on a Sunday when we were there, but we were still able to find a place to sit and the line moves pretty fast. Their homemade hazelnut infusion seemed too perfect for this world and maybe it was because on my 4th visit, when I ordered it again, it was SO TERRIBLE: watery and hardly hazelnut flavor. I'll admit that I am a bit of a coffee snob and borderline Starbucks addict. However, whenever I am in the North End, I always make it a point to stop in to the Thinking Cup. Often raved about, but always busy, I always had intentions of going in, but waited till it wasn't as busy one Saturday afternoon (in a snowstorm). The ordering procedure is relatively easy and the pastries taunt you as you walk in. How could you NOT go for a lemon poppyseed scone? You order your drink at the counter, give them your name, and then your drink is called out at the coffee bar at the far end of the cafe. The coffee is amazing. I always go for a hazelnut latte and a lemon poppyseed scone. Honestly, it is the best way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The drinks are HOT and served with latte art. A few things: First, it is always busy. Always. Even in a snowstorm, it was busy. The tables may turn over rather quickly, but there is spots at the bar to enjoy your treat. Your best bet is to go with a friend who can stalk the tables for one soon to be clearing while you order drinks for him or her. The people-watching aspect here is on point. We were looking for a cafe since we needed a caffeine fix after a red eye flight, and Thinking Cup was the perfect spot. It's pretty hipsterish, and they serve Stumptown Coffee! I'm a huge of of Stumptown's roasts, especially espressos when made right. I went for the latte and it was pretty much spot on! Apparently Thinking Cup has won a few awards for their latte art and no wonder, it's damn pretty. I tried a bit of the hazelnut latte as well. It's good, but I'm still more of the regular latte type of guy. Went back later in the day and got an iced latte, and it's awesome! They pour milk first, then the espresso shots, THEN they add a layer of foam! First time I got an iced latte with foam. There's also food here, like sandwich and pastries. Sandwiches made in house , but it seems like their pastries are from elsewhere. Baristas here are very chill. Talked to one guy for about 15 minutes, just on the cafes and the roasters he's tried throughout US. I've spent a lot of my recent time in Boston in the North End, so the Thinking Cup is a somewhat regular stop. I've always had nice enough service at this location, though perhaps it can be a bit slow at times. My favorite coffee drink thus far has probably been the hazelnut latte, but they generally make a delicious drink - from the Café Au Lait to the Vanilla Ginger Latte. Add that to the fact that I JUST realized on my last visit (why it took me so long, I have no idea...but I clearly don't pay enough attention) that they have such an awesome variety of build-your-own grilled cheese options and I am pretty delighted with this spot. Of course, now I'm craving my favorite grilled cheese combination from this place and I have to wait until my next visit to Boston to both enjoy the ambiance and appease that pesky craving itself.
