The waitress misunderstood NA but corrected it pretty quickly once she brought out a regular beer. I had the Ace pineapple cider, one of my favorites. I also had the Ahi Tuna appetizer. It was very good. It could use a bit more sauce given with the dish and wasabi but I'll admit I polished it off nonetheless. We got in and got out and made it to the concert just on time. Thirsty Lion was able to accommodate a party of seven on an early Saturday evening. The first thing we noticed was the loud music playing throughout the restaurant. What was louder was people talking over the music which made it very difficult to hear folks at our table. We started with cocktails, and roasted gluten free Brussels sprouts due to a gluten sensitive person in our party. The Brussels sprouts were delicious but had pasta mixed in and were cross contaminated. Fortunately, the person with gluten allergies noticed before taking a bite. We mentioned it to our wait person and the Brussels sprouts were removed from our check. Dinner consisted of Jalapeño burger, cheese burger, chicken avocado sandwich, tacos, and kids ordered chicken tenders. The burgers were delicious, especially the spicy jalapeño burger. The tenders were crunchy and also delicious. The food was great, but the very noisy atmosphere made the overall experience a disappointment. read more

Thirsty Lion is our go to place down by Union Station. It is nothing revolutionary, but it is always good. It is a huge spot so we seem to always be able to get a seat - even late on a Saturday. Burgers are awesome. The queso is nice. I especially like the Lion Lemonade. Always had good service. It's a good spot. I really liked this spot located on a busy street in Lodo. It is huge with tons of indoor seating. I like the big open space and huge windows let you see the hustle and bustle outside! I was very impressed with the food we ordered. I would say definitely try the buffalo cauliflower. They do have plenty of veggie options and fish. Let's start positive, my wife had the chicken Mediterranean bowl and loved it. I however, against my better intuition, let the "signature item" designation on the menu influence my decision to order the fish and chips. As much as I love good fish and chips, I've stayed away from ordering them for the simple reason that when they fail-as they often do-it's predictable. And the fish and chips at the Thirsty Lion were predictable, simply undercooked. I'm NOT eating obvious uncooked beer batter that layers next to the fish. My theory is simple, if batter is uncooked so is the fish. And this is soooo preventable. And this leads to my next subject. To all chefs out there-stop with the beer batter fish and chips! Stopped by the Thirst Lion before our show at Red Rocks (where the shuttle was picking up), and was so glad we did! We got some food and drinks before heading to our show - and liked it so much that we came back the following day to try some other food items (for second night of show). They even have a food special for folks who are taking the shuttle from their place (essentially a free app from limited menu with purchase of a drink), which was clutch! Also to mention it's during HH too, so additional drink and food specials as well. We got a pretzel, chicken tenders, beer cheese soup (was recommended by a few people), and split a burger. All was pretty decent, although I'd recommend the gastropub burger if you are craving a burger. Service was hit or miss, especially the crowds start coming in, but overall friendly. My partner and I came here for lunch yesterday right before taking the shuttle to Red Rocks. Since it was earlier in the day, they had an incredible happy hour that consisted of getting a free Appetizer with a drink purchase! We chose to get the pretzel and calamari as apps and then split a gastropub burger as well. Pretzel: great flavor and size! Dipping sauces were decent, I'm always a sucker for beer cheese. 5/5 Calamari: was actually a LOT better than I was expecting, and paired well with both sauces. 4/5 Gastropub burger: the blend of all the different flavors really worked well together, especially with the maple bacon. The ciabatta bun was a nice twist. 5/5 The service was also super friendly, and they were understanding of us needing to catch the bus so they expedited our food. My friend and I had happy hour here as we waited for our bus to Red Rocks. We were seated immediately upon arrival even though it was busy, they had plenty of space. Food & drinks: For food, we ordered the chicken tenders, fries and the giant pretzel. All of the items were good and very well worth the happy hour price. It filled us up nicely before our concert. For drinks, we ordered a moscow mule and a cosmo. Both cocktails were pretty standard. They were made adequately. Service: Service was friendly. After having so many things about their Scotch eggs & it being conveniently located by Union Station, I knew I had to stop by before the end of the year. It had good vibes and a good crowd for a Monday night. Waiter was attentive and food came out quick. Their food was okay, some items are definitely better than others. They pride themselves with the fact its a scratch made kitchen, ingredients freshly prepped every morning. To start off, of course, a signature dish of theirs -- traditional scotch eggs. It was delicious, I love the crunchiness of the crust and the delicious golden runny egg yolk. The yolk was creamy and balanced off the crust. As for my entree, I had the Smoked Pork Ramen. It was not my favorite. Personally, I had brief moments where I could taste the flavor of the broth as the black pepper (and potentially chilies?) just overpowered the dish itself. Pork was good, tender --- could not taste the smokiness at all. Udon noodles was mushy, and I am still debating if it was actually udon noodles. Overall, would I come again? We made a reservation since everything around the theater was booked up. We didn't need one. There were plenty of tables available. This place is a 15 min walk to the DCPA through a nice part of town. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated right away. The food was delicious. We all really enjoyed the spicy tuna roll. I was a little disappointed that flatbreads weren't available (equipment issues). I had to go with my 2nd choice. Even so, the shrimp tacos were good. My kids each had burgers and enjoyed them. We thoroughly enjoyed the service and our dinner at the Thirsty Lion. The kids loved their burgers and my sister and I enjoyed a shrimp noodle bowl (recommended by the waitress) and a flat iron steak (cooked to perfection). The food was decent, but later that same evening, I experienced a food-borne illness. 3 days later, still experiencing the same symptoms. Nothing appeared wrong with my food, but the after-math of eating their food was something I beg to go without. Not only was our service not up to par, but our waiter seemed to visit the laboratory over 5 times in less than 1 hour. Went to the Thirsty Lion in hopes of grabbing an appetizer & dessert with some drinks. I ordered a blood orange margarita. It was beautiful & pretty tasty too. My friend ordered a hibiscus basil lemonade & she said it was one of her better drinks she had on the trip. We tried to order the fried pickles but they were out so we ended up just ordering the Southern Peach Crumble from their Summer menu. The Peach crumble was good. The peaches tasted really fresh. We both wish there was more crumble to this dessert. The pecans were a fun touch to this dish. We both wish we would have tried a meal here. It looked like they had some yummy options on their menu. My bestie and I wanted to do brunch one Saturday. So we met at the Thirsty Lion. We were met by a lovely waitstaff member that placed in the nice patio in the shade where we could people watch while catching up. We split a bottle of champagne with Blood Orange Juice. So delicious. I confess, I could have drank a 2nd bottle it was so good. There were so many amazing options on the brunch menu that I was torn and know I will have to go back again. I finally settled on the Breakfast Burrito. I still can't stop thinking about it. It was everything that I wanted. It was a touch spicy and I loved the Ranchero sauce and Chipotle Aioli that elevated it to the next level. It was accompanied by roasted breakfast potatoes. Best part of the dinner - the iced tea. I was here for a work function. Waitress was ok but it seemed there was a purposeful delay in taking our dinner order. Anything requiring a grill is no longer available - guess it will take a lot of effort for them to get a new one put in. This is from them, not my own supposition. Dinner was very underwhelming - fried chicken with Mac and cheese. The chicken is mostly fried batter. Mac and cheese was bland. If you like cheese curds and sliders I guess you could try it. If you want to have a decent meal I would not recommend; Denver has a lot more to choose from. I'd give a 2.5 if possible but I don't see a reason to round up. read more

Guess I'm 0/1 in Denver so far. First meal in and it was a bonafide crap hole. Food and and service were absolutely terrible. Let's start with the food, the shrimp tasted "fishy" which I don't think is ever supposed to happen. The black beans were room temperature and supposedly had bacon in it, which is definitely not a good idea at room temperature. Although the good news is there was no bacon. All you tasted was crappy Luke warm beans. They give you three options for tacos: carnitas, fish tacos and shrimp. God forbid you can pick and choose, you only get 1 option and I picked the wrong one. Who knows how the others would've worked for you. The host and the server outside and terrible attitudes. You are inconveniencing them by being there just FYI. It is kind of funny when 22 year olds think they're worth anything. The beer was the best part but not worth it read more

Thirsty line is a restaurant that's located very close to our apartment and is one of the first places that we went when we moved to downtown Denver. They have a great happy hour that has a bunch of different options from poke to a massive pretzel and sushi. Happy hour food and beers are a great deal during this time. One of my favorite drinks that they have are their flights. They do six pours of beer and it's a really good option to try a bunch of different beers from many local breweries. This is a great option if you're going to a Nuggets game or Broncos game or a Rockies game and they have bunch of different happy hours throughout the day and also brunch on the weekends, which is a great option for larger groups. The largest issue that this place has is it's not always as clean as you would expect especially at the bar. Also, the bartenders and waitresses at times seem to have an attitude and don't always seem to want to be there. read more

On my last evening in Denver, it was my desire to eat at or around the Denver Union train station. I have reviewed a sample of the many food options that are available in a different post on this platform. The bonus of being in this area is that there are numerous enticing eateries outside the train station too. So, I chose the Thirsty Lion Gastropub and decided to only have appetizers, so that we could taste more items on the menu. The beef sliders (3 of them), had appealing presentation and tasted super. The brioche bun, beef patty, and the fresh tomato and lettuce provided satisfaction with every bite. The edamame was tossed in a soya and chilli paste to produce a knock out dish. This will remain as the best edamame I have had in a very long time. The scotch eggs (4 of them), had a crisp breading coat on the outside, and the perfect soft boiled yolk on the inside. I liked the fact that you could hardly taste the sausage meat layer in between the outer crust and the egg white. The scotch egg offering is very hard to find in the restaurant landscape. The cauliflower appetizer was also wonderful. It was tempura fried and covered with a thick flavorful Asian sauce. Indulging into it reveals a fresh cauliflower that had both texture and flavor. Service was good. There is still more on the menu that needs to be tried. Those mouthwatering selections will have to wait till the next time. read more

My wife and I shared the Brussels Sprouts which were very tasteful along with the edamame (very spicy and flavorful). The gastropub was conveniently located a few feet away from Union station and we were very happy with our choice. Service was fast and good. 2 different servers kept checking on us making sure we didn't need anything. It was warm and cozy. The Botha big enough for the wife and I to seat together comfortably. Connor, our waiter, was very friendly and attentive. So why less than 4 stars? I decided to treat myself to a ribeye medium rare. It looks like they got it right when I cut into it. But it lacked flavor, very bland, so and was surprisingly chewy. Signs that the steak was cooked while cold. For the price, I would've expected better, at least a little better.
