attitude pony this joint was one of the only places open at 10pm, as we just travelled 2 1/2 hours away for vacation. our table of five is seated and we get our food soon after. my friend said the burger & fries were good, but the salad i got was very mid. the onions tasted weird & the lettuce was very roughly chopped. thirsty pony had almost no vegan/vegetarian options. which is sort of expected since it's mainly a bar. anyways our server quinnoa was very standoffish & short with us. which was fine, it was very busy and probably a long night for her. I've been a server, i understand how things can get sometimes.. but as we finished our meal she gives us our check, we put the money on the table & proceed to leave. 1 minute later she comes running outside yelling " YOU GUYS DIDNT GIVE ME ALL THE MONEY !" i was obviously confused and told her the money was on the table. she pulls out a receipt with a total bill of 80 sum dollars. i then gave her the receipt she had given me earlier that said it was 60 bucks, which she proceeds to throw on the ground outside?? obviously i said u gonna litter ?? and her response was " well someone's gonna pick it up" if your wondering i'm the one that picked it up. not always being in a chipper mood is understandable, but disrespecting the planet & being all shitty like that is where i draw the line. in conclusion the food isn't worth experiencing that again. read more

Joined waitlist and time given was 46-66 minutes. Received a text that table was ready not even 15 minutes later. Drove to restaurant and was there 5 minutes before the 15 minute late mark. Checked in with host/manager and he immediately got an attitude and said well I don't have your table I gave it away and your late. Very unprofessional. We are a family of 4 - 2 adults/2kids. The parking lot wasn't busy, but there was still a 20 minute wait? The party of 4 adult males that arrived after us were seated before us? I thought maybe they were seating us at the booth due to the kids but we were at the very next table to the previous group. Service was slow. Kitchen staff was very loud. Our food arrived at varied times. Some dishes warmer than others. Not quite sure why my plate was super hot because my food was not warm. My pulled pork had a hard top roll, soggy bottom roll & dry pork in the middle. My husband liked his burger. Men's bathroom sink did not have water to wash hands. The place has potential. I think I could have liked this place a lot more if the waitress was not downright rude. After waiting for nearly 10 minutes just to get any service, we ended up with a rather short-tempered, unhelpful waitress. Trying to get information from her about menu choices and beer options was nearly impossible; when asked a second time, she did not take even 10 seconds to stop and answer the question. Yes, it was busy, and she may have been having a bad day, but when your job is providing a service to others, taking a few extra seconds to stop and answer a question can make the difference. In addition, my friend's food came out not fully cooked, and when approached about it, our waitress basically shrugged it off. She left our table after being told about the uncooked food without checking on anyone else. We had to wait almost 45 minutes after we all finished our meals just to get our bills. I'm not sorry to say this: the service was unacceptable and the food was nowhere near the price we were charged. The ONLY redeeming part was the manager on duty asking about the incident with food (AFTER overhearing us make mention of it) and removing it from our bill. read more

Wow! What an awesome place to visit! We decided to stop here for a last minute bite after leaving Cedar Point to head back to Pittsburgh. Located down the road from the park, I'd imagine this place is filled in the summer. We went on a Sunday night around 8 P.M., and I was surprised that it wasn't busier (not complaining!). The atmosphere is really fun. There are live keno games playing, a plethora of TVs hanging around for all your sports viewing pleasure and a lot of fun artwork and designs. It's definitely a novelty type of restaurant. The menu is huge (almost too huge...) and you're bound to find something to satisfy you. I couldn't believe for less than $12 I was able to get a generous sized chicken fajita wrap, two handfuls of cripsy seasoned fries, pasta salad and a fried pickle! Great deal for a great price! The only negative thing I'd mention was the fact that the service was a little slow. We wanted to get back home after a long weekend at the park and were a bit annoyed that it was taking awhile for the waitress to check back with us throughout our dinner. However, I imagine most people go there to drink, eat and enjoy games and usually not in any rush. I'd most definitely go back here during my next visit for Cedar Point (season passes!) and get a better deal than paying ridiculous prices for food that's nothing special in the park. read more

We were in Cleveland on vacation and came up to Cedar Point for 2 days of our stay. When we got into town, it was too early to check in our hotel, so we looked for a pace to eat. This place stood out... just looked like a lot of fun, looks like it is connected to the hotel.... Our server was great... he had great recommondations( we had wings and some kind of flat bread pizza ) and we ate until we were stuffed. It has an outdoor patio or you can eat indoors. I did notice that you can go watch horse racing and bet... or you can play keno from your table .... I think I have been here before this, a long time ago with my family... A group of us went here to get our drink on while the rest of the Cedar Point was getting rained on. They had ridiculously cheap food. The 1/2 yards were very reasonably priced. And they have some OK beers on tap, nothing amazing. The service was also a little slow, but it was pretty packed. If you eat there you can apparently get a free game of bowling at the adjacent hotel. Overall, not bad, i would go back here again if we were once again rained on at Cedar Point. Stopped in with a party of 5 for food and decided on Burgers and Chicken tenders. We had 1 Baby Chubby, 2 Whiskey, 1 3/4lb S.O.B and then the Chicken. The burgers while they looked good presentation and size wise, they did not taste as good as they looked. The meat lacked flavor and ultimately where it went downhill for us. The atmosphere and waitress was good, but that was the only thing good. Not even the fries were good. They too were big and looked good, but it again lacked flavor. Kinda hard to explain, but it just wasn't very good. On the other hand it appears to be a good hangout and drink spot, but we didn't do none of that. We will be in the area for 3 days and will not be stopping here for food...drinks maybe. read more

Stopped here with the family after a Port Clinton getaway. It was awesome. GREAT food, fun atmosphere. The boneless wings I got with garlic parmesan and blue cheese was one of the best things I've ever eaten. I would drive back just for that. The burger I got was huge and I could only eat half. The long island I ordered was strong to say the least but maybe you need that after a day of coasters at Cedar Point. This place is unabashedly kitschy, and I love it. Plus, it's next to the best amusement park on earth, which is a huge +++. My family of four loves the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the location, and the hours. One thing I do not like are the huge souvenir glasses many concoctions come standard in, BUT all you have to do is ask, and they'll make your libation of choice in a less obnoxious container (although, we did give in and get the guitar glass for one of our kiddos once, and were contemplating the new 'A Christmas Story' styled leg glass). Now, for some recommendations: FOOD: Frickers Wings - these are the biggest, meatiest chicken wings we have ever had! They have a wide array of sauces to suit any palate, but the Teriyaki and Parmesan Garlic are our family's favorites. Pizza - very good, and we especially like to get the personal sized deep-dish pies which come with 5 of those yummy wings. Mozzaluna - really yummy fried cheese; get the sauce on the side so it doesn't get soggy Potato skins - the best I've ever had. They cut whole, fresh potatoes in half horizontally, and just load them up with delicious Spinach Dip - creamy, plentiful, and it comes in a yummy homemade bread bowl along with chips Burgers - delicious, many topping/style choices, and homemade buns Seafood - their mussels, perch and lobster bisque are good, but probably not my favorite in the area DRINKS: Beer - I don't drink beer myself, but my husband is a beer snob, and he's more than pleased with the vast draft selection and unique microbrews Cocktails - my favorite is the Twisted Pony, but let me just say, their bartenders are all fantastic and can make anything to your liking. They make a great white gummi bear shot also, which is a local favorite. FUN: Here's one of the greatest things about this place: there's fun for grown-ups AND kids! My hubby and I will sit and bet on horses, play Keno and other lottery games while shooting the breeze with the locals and bartenders while the kids meander down the hall to Lucky's where they can bowl and play video games. There's also a water park where you can buy relatively inexpensive day passes. The one main criticism I have for this place is the hotel accommodations. We've tried staying at the adjoining Quality Inn several times, simply because we enjoy the Thirsty Pony so much, but we sadly have given up on that pursuit. There's no way around it: the hotel is a bit of a dump. I will say, however, that it's not any worse than many of the other options in the area. Sandusky is a seasonal resort town, so many of the hotels/motels are only open for a portion of the year, and it shows. Not a terrible tradeoff for staying close to the best theme park on earth, but keep your standards and expectations low looking for a room, and just don't plan to spend a lot of time in it. Great food, decent drinks, good service! In town for the weekend for Cedar Point and wanted to try something local. The food was very good! I had a chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had a Chubby Hubby burger both were awesome and amazing French fries! We also had the nachos (1/2 order) they were good but needed more chips. I had a Blue Breeze which was good my boyfriend got a Coors Light on draft he said it was warm and kinda flat. Our server was very nice but super quiet. Like many of the reviewers, I was in Sandusky to visit Cedar Point. This restaurant was across the street from our hotel. After a long day at Cedar Point, we didn't want to drive around an unfamiliar town looking for food, so we walked over to the Thirsty Pony. The place was packed. We had to honk a horn to get someone to seat us (it was hilarious). There were no tables, but the greeter had noticed two seats at the bar, so in we went. The menu is pretty big. Mostly burgers, sandwiches, wings and pizza. They also have a decent beer selection. I ordered a patty melt with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend ordered a Ruben. The staff was very upbeat and attentive. The food arrived quickly. Both came with a fried pickle. Mine had some sort of sweet cinnamon sauce to dip my fries in. We both enjoyed our food. Portion was huge, so we were unable to finish! The lady next to me had a giant plate of fries with all sorts of stuff on top, plus some wings, which I resolved to order the next time I visit Sandusky. The pizza here is far better than all logic and reason would dictate, and the service is super friendly. In spite of the fact that there's a fucking HORN that you're supposed to honk to summon waitstaff. This place reminds me of Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag. I didn't want to like it here, in that "guess this is the only thing open at 11:30 on a Sunday night" isn't the best reason to go to a restaurant, but... fried pickles. We asked around before settling on some of the local's recommendation of the Thirsty Pony. This is a bar/OTB/ Bowling Alley atmosphere, yet still acceptable for kids. The areas are divided pretty well. The bar area is located on a covered porch. There is a second bar located inside the restaurant area. Plenty of TVs to go around. The OTB is in its own area, still easily visible from the restaurant, but they do not interfere with one and other. The bowling alley is around the restaurant bar and is completely separated from the resaurant. The prices for bowling in August 2016 are: $3 shoe rental, $5 per game, $10 per hour, or $12 for 2 hours.....prices are per person. The bowling alley is an outdated 80s version with the old style tube TVs complete with an old scoring system. They have attempted a sad update by adding disco lights and loud music. Also located in the bowling area is a small game room. It consisted of two racing games, an air hockey game, and a few other basic games. The cost is average to other places; 50 cents to a dollar per game. We ate at the restaurant. My two children got kids meals, which came with a free game of bowling (upon request, as listed on menu). However, shoes still needed to be purchased. So "free" is a relative term. They also came with a game card with a few tokens on the card to play some of the games. The waitress, Diane, took our order, brought us our drinks and we did not see her again until the food was practically served, leaving our cups empty and waiting for refills. However, she was very pleasant and it was a full house. The kids ordered the burgers and chicken fingers. Both said they liked them. Chicken fingers looked average, nothing special. I had the Whiskey Burger with added bacon. I had to pay $2 extra for what were called beer battered fries. These were just regular fries. If not ordered, I would have received a bag of chips. The burger was tasty, but nothing too special. The fries were good, but not worth the $2. I feel fries should come with the burger. My wife had the Philly Cheese Steak. The Philly was not greasy and tasted good. The food took a long time to come, about 35 minutes. All and all not bad. $61 with tip for a family of 4. read more

I was on a mini vacation and saw a lot of cars at this place so my wife and I stopped in. It had an unusual vibe and had signs for Frickers and Godfathers Pizza so I wasn't sure what to expect. Turns out they were a Frickers but still have the food from Frickers but also have their own menu. I ordered the Perch Dinner with macaroni and cheese and sweet potato fries at $28. I expected a couple of pieces and fish, but when it arrived, it had eight pieces of perch! That is four full perch! The perch was lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. The macaroni and cheese was baked and creamy and delicious. The sweet potato fries were cross cut and came with a cinnamon spread that greatly enhanced the flavor of the fires. This meal was one of the best I have had in quite a long time and stood out as flavorful and well executed. The waitress was friendly and helpful and a joy to talk to. Unfortunately I don't live in this area or this would become my go to place. read more

Came here while visiting Sandusky and it was right across the street from our hotel. We ordered the BBQ sandwich, the black & Bleu salad, and the cilantro-lime chicken sand with a side of tater tots. No complaints about the BBQ sandwich. It was good in size for a child and adult to split & they enjoyed the taste. The black & Bleu salad was for a child (she loves steak and Bleu cheese) the pieces of steak came out SO large that we had to take them off her salad and cut them into smaller pieces. Alot more work than we had wanted to do with the salad. The chicken sandwich was good. The cilantro lime dressing appeared on the side for the sandwich which I thought was weird. I assumed the chicken breast would have been marinated in it. It had way too much lime flavor and not enough cilantro. The tater tots were bomb. The atmosphere was pretty awesome and the bar staff was assertive and friendly (made a good cocktail too) most the reason for the 3 stars review was for our waitress and the prices. I'm sorry to say this but she was not very good at her job and it appeared as if she may be new? If that's the case, then awesome but don't be working a busy Saturday night. On my last night in Sandusky, my visit to the Thirsty Pony was enjoyable. I arrived here after a full day riding roller coasters at Cedar Point, and naturally wanting to avoid the exorbitant prices theme parks often charge for food, i waited until I was outside the park to eat. ATMOSPHERE: Thirsty Pony is a casual place with a sports bar feel. There are plenty of TVs to watch sports, and you can play various gambles like Keno. The one really weird thing about this place is the horn when you walk inside. You have to honk it if you need to be seated. SERVICE: I sat at the bar and was served by Dave who was friendly and diligent. One odd detail I observed about the staff is they wear name tags. Normally, this is reserved for fast food restaurants and not full service ones. Plus, the tags themselves looked cheap and gaudy, so I'm not sure why the staff had to wear them. FOOD: I ordered their Cuban sandwich which was served on a ciabatta bun branded with Thirsty Pony's logo. The meat in the sandwich greatly dwarfed the bun size. The entree was served with a fried pickle spear and pasta salad. Instead of the included chips, I opted to upgrade for fries which came in their own little basket shaped like the ones you use to deep fry potatoes. VALUE: It would've been nice if the sandwiches came with the fries by default instead of having to spend $2 extra. However, the domestic draft beers were relatively cheap. A tall 24-ounce Miller Lite ran me only $2.75, whereas in upstate NY where I currently reside that same beer would be $5-6. read more

I don't really frequent this place much in the summer. It's attached to a Cedar Point hotel and can get pretty crazy. But I fell in love with it this past winter. Yes, the food can be pricey but they run winter specials for the locals that make the food quite reasonable. Wednesday burger nights became a sort of tradition there for a minute. Fun atmosphere, can get crowded but there's enough corners to get lost in. And I've never had a problem with the service. Contrary, I've found all the staff quite interesting and helpful. read more
