This was probably the most uncomfortable I've felt going to an establishment. I went here with my girlfriend trying to order some food to go, and was told to go to the bar. We sat there just talking to each other but it became more evident that the bartender would not come up to us. We sat there patiently for about 30 minutes until the bartender came up to us and finally asked what we needed. She came off as really rude and dismissive of us. She then left us again for an extended period of time tending to every other customer with a big smile but us. She never checked up on during the whole time we were there. We ended up leaving never being able to order food even though our money was just as good as everyone else's. I get it, some people may be preoccupied with other things but that doesn't mean we should've been ignored and felt like we didn't belong there. Neat spot but it's a bar in my book. Terrible decor very cold with fans blowing, cheap beach kind of atmosphere. Just reeks of 20 year old Friday night party place. That being said the food was very good. Two of us both burgers were excellent, came with fries, cole slaw and a fried pickle. Burger had a nice char and good flavor, good amount of toppings. Tots and fries were average. Beer was cold and they provided a cold glass. Staff was average. Thursday is burger specials so the bill was good but overall a convoluted joint, bar, casino, off track betting, lottery restaurant?? Kind of a mess. read more

The sever had an attitude the minute we walked in the door. We placed our drink and food order and got our drinks pretty quick. A 1/2 hour went by and no food. I hadn't even seen our server again. I finally flagged down another employee and asked if our sever was still working and she told us she had to leave. I the asked is our order was place with the kitchen. We stayed at the CP Express hotel on the other side of the Hope field of sunflowers, and the front desk staff recommended the Thirsty Pony for good food and drinks. There were tourists and locals hanging out on a Monday and Tuesday night, and yes they were pretty busy both nights! I ordered the Lake Erie Perch dinner and boy, am I glad I did! Totally worth it as you get a pile of beautifully fried perch and two substantial sides; I ordered cole slaw and their incredible, must-try white cheddar mac and cheese, and it was plenty of food after a long day at the park. My partner ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich, and although there was "a little too much bread", he really enjoyed it (the chicken was even too big for the bread as it was hanging out both sides of the sandwich! He really liked the pasta salad that came with it too! By far we both LOVED the mac n cheese the best! These guys don't skimp on the portions, which is great since everything seems to be inflated price-wise... but what isn't these days? At least they give you a good value for your money. I highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area! Just a short walk to the Cedar Point Express and a skip and a hop to the Holiday Inn Express in Sandusky. When I walked in I had absolutely no idea where to go to pick up my order. I ordered the lobster bisque, perch sandwich, boneless wings, and pretzels. When I picked it up I asked if a spoon was in the bag. The bartender said that they don't have plastic silverware. The lobster bisque tasted sour. My perch sandwich had more bones it than a dinosaur museum. Every bite I had a bone sticking into my gums. It was dry, no tarter, mayo, or cheese. The coleslaw was tasteless. I called on a Saturday afternoon a few hours before planning to arrive just to give them a friendly heads up that we'd be coming in with a large party. We were given the VIP treatment, quite literally, being seated in the VIP lounge with our own bartender/server. They even put up personalized signs for my wife's bday which we were celebrating. The burger had a weird flavor, not enjoyable, maybe low quality meat? Not sure what it was but it didn't have much flavor. The wings were ok, but maybe undercooked a little. Also they charged for ranch which was watery so we didn't use much. That should be standard with wings. Hoping reheating the wings with some added sauce fixes the issue. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!! I have worked for several alternating weeks at the nearby Holiday Inn Express, and thankfully I walked over to The Thirsty Pony to see what it was all about. FANTASTIC!!!!! This place is like a neighborhood bar in Germany, but with American foods, and if you're into it, off-track gambling. Since I'm not into gambling, the bar & the food really had to be worth the trip to make it worth my while. And this place never disappoints! I have ordered about 25% of everything on the menu, T-bones, Steak salads, hot wings, pizza, almost every variety of hamburger they have, various sandwiches, and most of their beer selection, and I can honestly tell you that this place must NOT be missed. What makes it so great? Their fantastic STAFF -- like Jeff at the bar, Panda (Amanda) and all others, and their chef... every one of these people are OUTSTANDING! I've had foods prepared so perfectly that I've made photos and sent to friends who thought I was pulling their leg about where I was. Very pleasant & relaxed atmosphere, informal, safe, excellent food, funny people... You'll love the food and you'll want to take the establishment and all its people to your home, wherever that may be. We were in Sandusky for three nights to ride the coasters at Cedar Point. Each evening we stopped by the Thirsty Pony and it was the perfect way to end each fun-filled day. Great drinks, happy hour specials, friendly staff and awesome bar food. We tried the wings, burgers, perch, fries, mac n cheese, large pretzel with dips, and, sauerkraut balls (yep, mixed with sausage and cheese and deep fried). The complex has so much going on - you can spend an evening watching the big screens, doing a bit of gaming, bowling, playing corn hole toss outside, or just hanging out at the bar talking to the most friendly bartenders who take time to chat while being prompt with the food and drinks. I came to this restaurant Tuesday night while on vacation and had a terrible experience. Out waitress was Nikki and she provided some of the worst service any of us had ever experienced. We arrived and were seated quickly and soon we were introduced to Nikki, who took our drink order. Our drinks took at least ten minutes to arrive. We ordered our food and it took twenty minutes for a salad to arrive then another 5-10 for our pretzel. When we had hit the hour mark of being in the restaurant our dinner arrived, we'll two of the four meals. It took 15 minutes for a follow up and we were told it was just about ready. Then ten minutes later a man, who was so apologetic but we didn't catch his name, brought out a third meal. We asked where the rest was and he had no idea there was more. So finally about ten minutes later we got the last of our food. When this was discovered Nikki came over and did not offer an apology, not even a simple I'm sorry. She told us, "we're busy and I'm training someone and the ticket didn't go in, my hands are tied but your food will be out soon". She immediately blamed the trainee and their business, which it was a Tuesday night and not very busy for reference. She was who took our order and did not put it in. We weren't expecting anything in return for this negative experience but the waitress was rude to us over it and couldn't even utter I'm sorry after everything that occurred. ALSO one person in the group paid in cash and the change was not returned. She just assumed it was for herself. read more
