When a dog gets treated better than me I know it's time to go. More on that later. After my friend made reservations for tonight at 7:30 we arrived a little early. Their back patio tables were pretty full but we got seated right away and given menus. We had time to look over the menu, making some preliminary decisions about what to get and were eager to order some drinks to start. We saw waitstaff come and go amongst the tables and there appeared to be a party in the backroom. By my count there were at least 4 waitstaff that shuttled back and forth from the kitchen to the room to their tables; conversing amongst their tables and themselves. Not once did any of them stop by. The only person that did was the busser who gave us waters and even topped off our glasses twice while we waited. We had a nice couple next to us that seemed to be finishing up their meal and had brought their dog with them and they mentioned that staff had provided meat for their dog to eat during their meal. Their server definitely seemed friendly with them and their dog but turned her back to us the entire time like we didn't exist. I don't want to insinuate anything but there was definitely one distinguishing characteristic between myself and the other diners there; basically we were two very small lemon drops in a sea of milk. We waited over fifteen minutes to be acknowledged and then we just got up and left. As we left the two hosts said "Thanks, please come back again." Not going to happen. read more

There are not enough stars to bestow on Lisa and Mike, owners and chefs extraordinaire. These two beautiful angels truly made a terribly difficult weekend in mid-March into a celebration of life. Upon knocking on the back kitchen door and inquiring about hosting a reception for our mother who had just passed, Mike so kindly escorted us in and got Lisa on the phone. In one week, they together helped organize and create the most beautiful and delicious 3 course dinner for our entire extended family and friends. Their patience, kindness, consideration, and artistry combined with the gorgeous atmosphere of their restaurant and the expertise of their staff made for the softest landing we could have imagined. We were here last time we came up and had a wonderful experience. This time, not so much. I think the owner has not been there for a long time, at least that's what it felt like. Our server, Jack, was very good. Downhill from there. Crab cakes are not just supposed to be a lot of bland crab. The beet salad was good, nothing spectacular, but for $22 or whatever, should have been better. The worse thing was the new busboy who was being trained by an older woman. He picked up people's water glasses at the top, where you would put your lips. That is a huge No. I finally signaled for the woman to come over and informed her, honestly I was not complaining, but giving her feedback as she was training him. She did not thank me, she did not apologize, she did not replace my water glass even though she could see it was filled and I had told her about the fingers. So really the problem was her. My husband had chile relleños which were good but much too spicy / hot, and we like hot, but that's not how that dish is supposed to be. The servers were constantly walking back and forth between two doors, out, then in, then out, then in, which incessant parade was just bizarre and distracting, I will not vote to return. read more

Made a reservation during Memorial Day weekend which was important. Love the indoor/outdoor vibe they have. We sat next to their outdoor fireplace, which I wonder if they ever use? The food was good, fresh and tasted good. Was a great place for up to four, not sure if I would go with more than four. It was a little hard to hear. I really enjoyed their warm grains salad. We've been going to TH for years on your way to SF. We stopped for lunch. First time we were disappointed. The salad was ok but nothing special. The watermelon gazpacho was delicious. Then came the hamburger. Ordered medium but came well done and very peppery. The bun was soggy, almost wet. Very expensive for what we got, no wine this time. The servers were extremely nice and offered to replace but we'd didn't have the time. We will go back. Maybe just an off day. read more

Came here for NYE pre fixe dinner. Tip: make a reservation at least a month ahead of time! We made ours two months in advance and had our choice of timing. Dinner that night was by res only. Scallop with forbidden rice and mushroom first course was flavorful. Scallop was perfectly prepared, rice texture could have been better though. Pork belly brûlée was a hit at our table! So came here since I thought the menu was the same during the day....not the case. Completely different and prices are well, pricey. Got seated right away which was great. During lunch it was about a 20 minute wait so we went somewhere else. Service was okay. There were water faries everywhere that filled your water every 3 minutes which I was very thankful for! Over a hundred degrees today. I asked for towelettes and they were out so they brought a warm napkin with water! That bumped it up a star! Food was excellent though! Every bit I wanted to keep in my mouth just a little longer than normal lol. But even with the taste being amazing we will probably not come again unless we want to spend over a hundred dollars for two people. We walked away still very hungry. My gf had the ravioli and it was basically one ravioli for 17 dollars. Total came out to 60 with tip for 2 people. Basically if you dont mind spending the money, come here and get a starter and a main dish and dessert and you will probably spend way over a 100 dollars but you will probably be full, and the food is excellent. I don't normally rate on service but it was so appalling at this purportedly fine dining restaurant. They made us wait for 15 minutes while there were many tables available. We even booked a table ahead of time. The excuse was the kitchen was not ready to take orders. What was wrong with waiting at the table? If it was up to me I would go somewhere else where they appreciate my business. The hostess was snooty but the waitress was apologetic. We had to pay an automatic 20% tip because of our big group, adding insult to injury. The food was ok, overpriced and did not make up for the bad experience. Overall, overpriced for what the food is - but understand you're paying for the ambience and "farm to table" label. $10 for the whipped lemon yogurt appetizer - wasn't a huge fan of this. The yogurt was a strange compliment to the pita bread and the "dukkah" was a pool of olive oil with crushed pistachios. Boyfriend ordered the cuban ($18), which he said was yummy! Service was great. We found hair in our food and let our server Jack know, he told us no one in the kitchen had black/dark hair. What kind of response is that? Basically, insinuating that we planted the hair ourselves. First of all, the girls at our table had colored hair. Second of all, we are NOT color blind because the kitchen was full of staff with black/dark hair. TERRIBLE customer service! The owner Lisa, was very understanding but she needs to RE-TRAIN, RE-EDUCATE her staff, or get rid of the current people and hire new staff. Yes, our party was loud but other tables were just as loud as us. Plus, what did you expect from a party of +10? Were we supposed to eat in silence? $129 pp for a prefix menu with the mistreatment for my brother's birthday. If our group was intoxicated and they claim it is against the law to serve intoxicated guests, why were they still serving us? Why did they allow our tables to order more alcohol? Why didn't they kick us out? Why didn't they give us the check when we ASKED for it multiple times since we did NOT want to be there any longer. First impression is always very important, especially when you want your customers to return for future visits. However, having a snooty, inexperienced hostess will not do the trick. I had booked a table for 10 for Sunday brunch for 10:15am, 15 minutes after they open. We arrived early and were hoping to at least be seated early so we can start perusing the menu. I gave the hostess my name and reservation time. She responded, "I can seat you at 10:15" and just walked off. Hmm... Our table was already set, and there were only about 6 other parties (2's and 4's) in the entire restaurant minutes after they opened. If they're worried about slamming the kitchen (as explained to us by our server), then she should have said so instead of just walking off, leaving us standing there at the host stand, Our server was polite and attentive, apologizing for the hostess's actions (or inactions). And while many of us enjoyed the food we ordered (trumpet mushrooms seemed to do the trick at making the Market Scramble and Mushroom Toast delicious, the runner (aka bartender) delivered half of the food and orders of coffee to the wrong persons. My scramble was described in the menu as being served with breakfast potatoes (which were delicious as well), but I was given two slices of artisan sourdough bread instead. However, that error was rectified when I alluded to this to our server. For a $16 cheese plate, one would expect a little more than just two 1/8 wedges of brie served with only 4 thin, pre-packaged crisps. So it was a mixed bag of good and bad service and food. And while they are at least 4 stars worthy, the demeanor of the hostess and the errors made during the service of the food and beverages make me want to give only 3 stars. (It's also the reason why my party felt that the automatic 20% gratuity charge for parties of 6 or larger was not justifiable on this day.) read more

I planned a lunch date with my mom and thought we'd try a different spot downtown. As we approached, another couple was behind us. After checking in and being seated, we were given water and menus, but then... nothing. We waited and waited, while the couple who sat down after us was promptly attended to. We were sitting right in the middle of the restaurant, so I have no idea how we were overlooked. The entire experience felt really unwelcoming. Eventually, we decided to leave, and not a single staff member seemed to notice as we got up and walked through the restaurant to leave. It was incredibly disappointing. read more

Best for brunch! If you are on the central coast of California, come here! They have great undercover outdoor seating. I came in with a group of 8 (we made a reservation) and we all got something different since the whole menu sounded good. We started with a pitcher of mimosa. I ordered the short rib Benedict and it had the best hollandaise sauce I've ever had, and I order eggs Benedict a lot. It wasn't too dense, strong or thick. Another favorite at the table was the mushroom toast (roasted garlic cloves!!) Would come here again if I was in the area. Con: there's only one single bathroom. read more

It's been a while since I've felt...bamboozled by a restaurant. Maybe it's just me but after a few days reflection, I have to tell my truth. Hubby and I dined here on a Saturday night and seated in the back room (next to the restroom and where the attic stairs go out to what might have been the staff room). It took a while and a not-so-whispered discussion between two servers before someone came over to greet us. Not the warmest start. Anyway, we started with two salads. We'd had a lot of wine during the day and just wanted to right the ship, so to speak. We got the beet salad and the German potato salad. Beet Salad - I think the pics we saw online were of spring beet salads and we may have ordered a SUMMER beet salad. What's the diff? Apparently the beets themselves. We received a huge pile of over seasoned greens with the smallest pieces of beets scattered throughout and a bunch of avocado and cheese on top. Nothing like the pictures we saw with beets artfully showcased as the centerpieces. German Potato Salad - Featured mostly cucumbers. I actually said something to our server and she agreed there was a lot of cucumbers but thought the chef wanted something refreshing for summer. I felt like he ran out of potatoes, actually. Besides the smokiness from the potato, the rest of the dish was bland, bland, bland. ****Listen, I get having to improvise in the kitchen and that dishes can't always look the way they usually do. But when you get so far away from what the dish is actually supposed to be, 86 it! Or rename it!***** The experience continued as the Bucatini & Uni pasta was delivered. (Our server had heartily approved of this choice, btw.). But the person that dropped off the dish casually announced "Here's your Scallop and Mushroom pasta!" and ran away. I was like "Whut?" Ok, so as it turns out, the dish featured scallops. I'm ok with that! But the top of the dish was room temp/cool while the bottom was still warm, with the sauce soaked into the pasta. So that tells me it's been sitting a while. Explains the mushy pasta bottom. Not nearly enough "uni" flavor to actually use it in the name. The lady who dropped off my dish was more accurate, now that I think of it but...it wasn't what I expected when I ordered the dish. Hubby said his duck was "just ok" and it came barely warm. Shocker! Our server was pleasant enough but we definitely got the feeling she was eager to move us along, offering to take away our salads TWICE while we were working on them. Eventually, a table for 5 that was seated a quite a bit after us took the majority of her attention so there's that fun fact.. Anyway, not going to be a repeat for us. We booked a reservation for 1:30 and got seated promptly. The menu reads like it's "holier-than-thou" with confusing ingredient names and weird acronyms. They design the place like a modern lounge with a wine cellar interior at the front, which is strange. I got the THO Burger, it was very tasty. You can definitely taste the smoke of the roast and it's very succulent. The patty was less ground beef texture and more like a steak texture. The accompanying salad was a bit bland but the burger easily made up for it. Portion sizes kinda small though. Solid 4.5 stars, but knock it down .5 star because the burger was pretty small. I'm not a big cowboy American stereotype, but I could down three of these burgers and not be full. I also had some of my party mates' Grain Chicken Salad. It was pretty underwhelming as compared to the Burger. The chicken was fresh and had a great bite and was in good sauce but in comparison to the burger it was mediocre. 3.5 stars. We've been coming to Thomas Hill organics for the past several years while visiting the wine country. We have recommended it to others saying it's a hidden gem in the small downtown area. We made reservations two months out before our trip, and were looking forward to enjoying their fantastic food. We were very skeptical once we found out that the owner had sold the restaurant, but were willing to check it out and see if it improved or declined. Although they made some updates to the menu, we were very disappointed in the food. We felt the quality of the food was lower. We were sad that they didn't have any of the original dishes, including the one that we always ordered, which was the salmon. Although we did like the thyme and honey biscuits for an appetizer, we felt they had been sitting in a holding area for a while as they were not very warm, and they were slightly hard on the outside. The fish we ordered was large in size, but was overpowered with a lot of different acidic flavors/sauces which made it hard to eat. I think it's worth a try (especially if you haven't been before) but it's definitely not a place that we would visit again in comparison. read more

We visited here for our mini honeymoon in December '20. There was plenty of outdoor patio backside of the restaurant and good social distance. Also, this place is dog friendly! Yay. Our dog enjoyed the company and they gave her a treat too. The servers are all nice. We got belgium salad to share and pork chop for me, rib eye for my husband. chocolate mousse for desset. We stopped by Thomas Hill Organics for lunch on a Saturday. We were celebrating a birthday and the people at Thomas Hill ensured that we had a great time. The birthday guest received some bubbly to start off the day right! We tried the Cubano and the Chicken & biscuits. The pork belly in the Cubano was perfectly roasted.. Definitely a must try! The chicken & biscuits comes with celery slaw. I am not a fan of celery but it was delicious!! The servers were extremely attentive and brought out some ice cream with a candle to celebrate the birthday. Great food and great service a much deserved 5 star. read more
