The place I was moving to was rented to a tenant for 4 years and wall/ceiling condition was pretty bad. I basically googled / yelped around and got quotes from multiple guys. A lot of them were difficult to reach and hard to schedule visits for estimate but Thomas was very easy to reach and he made himself available to visit even at night. Thomas and his crew were amazing- a complete pleasure to work with! I'm in the process of selling my condo in Evanston, as I'm relocating out of state, and I was trying to get the place ready for the open house. I was trying to patch some holes and touch up the paint, but the color I purchased (same brand/name as the original paint) clearly did not match, and I all of a sudden had an emergency situation to get it fixed before the weekend. Enter Thomas. I contacted him early the next morning, and he returned my call less than an hour later. He gave me a quick estimate over the phone and was able to send a crew member on Saturday morning to fix the walls. His crew member- I can't remember his name, but he is originally from Mongolia, and he was great!- was polite and very efficient. When I moved to Chicago not too long ago, I couldn't afford one of those large and perfectly painted studios like all the artists are dreaming to have one day. Instead, I rented a small, two-room apartment in the outskirts of the city, and I just needed to have somebody apply a fresh layer of paint on the walls to look as good as new. As everybody else, I checked the local newspaper and the Yellow Pages, looking for a skilled Chicago painter that is friendly and professional and that won't rip me off. This is how I came across Thomas, a very open, friendly and talkative painter who was about the same age as I was. We talked a bit, I told him how I envisioned the apartment and he suggested some really nice paint shades that I haven't considered before. We truly were on the same wavelength, so I have made my choice - Thomas was my choice, and I do not regret a thing! Of course, I had to buy lots of paint for the 70 square-meter apartment, but it was all worth it in the end. Not only did he help me choose the right colors, but he also offered me his friendly and obviously experienced advice on the finish. I initially wanted a glossy finish for some of the areas, but Thomas was like "No mate, unless you plan to turn this whole place into a dancefloor or a night club, that is not going to happen". I trusted him, simply because we talked so nicely and we connected, this is why I allowed him to use satin finish for the trim and a beautiful matte beige color for the walls. It was paint of the highest quality (and it came with a hefty price tag, of course), but it was all worth it in the end! I had no idea that there are literally hundreds of different shades of the same color, and there is actually a name for each one of them. Thanks to Thomas, I now know the difference between Duke Blue, Denim, Cambridge Blue, Royal, Midnight, Turquoise, Cyan and Ultramarine! So although Thomas only did the paint job for my living room and my bedroom, he did it extremely quick and professionally - and I am really glad to say that we are still very good friends today. He really loved his job. To many of us, working as a painter may seem mediocre, it may seem a job for people with low aspirations, but it is actually something that truly inspired Thomas. He came alive whenever the brush touched the wall and his eyes would lighten up with every square inch of wall that was covered in a fresh, thick, lively colored of paint. It is almost like he was living for that color! It was a real pleasure to watch this talented painter Chicago do his thing right under my eyes, not to mention that he was actually able to multitask as well, as we had long, nice chats while he was painting my walls. He was fast and efficient, and he didn't charge me a small fortune either. As a matter of fact, his job was absolutely impeccable and I really felt the need to tip him! This is the story of the talented Thomas the painter, a person that turned out to be a lot more than just a stranger - he was one of the most talkative persons I have ever met, and having him around, even for just a couple of days, was a sheer pleasure. Besides, he also offered to do the touch-up if the paint would peel off accidentally or if anything happened to it in the near future. It was then when he gained my whole trust and confidence, and I would kindly recommend him to all my friends and relatives who need a cheap yet top-notch paint job. I have owned an historic tudor home in Evanston for many years. Of course this involves painting/maintaining all of the wood and trim on the outside of the house. We have painted several times - but the best service and value of all of our paint jobs came from Thomas. The owner is involved in the details of each job. I was worried (frankly) because Thomas offered very competitive (as in not "North Shore Special") pricing and I wasn't sure the quality would be up to spec. I needn't have worried because my neighbor painted his house at the exact same time as we did, and our still looks great while his needs a re-paint already (3.5 years on). Finally, there was one small area where there was an issue with the paint peeling - and Thomas just came out and re-painted it for free. No haggling, no questions asked. First let me start by saying, I had high hopes for Thomas Paint Service with the excellent reviews that others have posted. Thomas was able to quickly come out and take a look at the exterior paint work my husband and I needed done. He provided an estimate on the spot and email a formal estimate later that evening. I was impressed with the quick response and his patience with all our questions. Thomas was also less expensive than most of the quotes we had received. A few days after Thomas came out for the original quote, I was able to schedule our exterior paint job for a Saturday morning the following week. The Saturday morning he was scheduled to complete the work, he arrived early with one other worker. The first clue that something didn't seem right was when Thomas had to show the other worker how to sand. However, we gave the benefit of the doubt and they continued to set up. Part of our paint job required accessing the roof to paint a small exterior section. Thomas had seen this area when he was out for the quote, but upon setting up the job site did not bring the proper safety equipment. Safety is key, so my husband and I albeit, a bit aggravated at this point because we had blocked an entire Saturday to be home for the painting job, agreed to re-schedule the job when Thomas could borrow the correct safety equipment from a fellow painter. The following Wednesday Thomas had re-scheduled to be out to paint the exterior of our town home. He assured us he would have the correct safety equipment and we asked that he come at 7:30am instead of 8:00am, so my husband could have the peace of mind before he went to work that appropriate safety measures were being taken and set up correctly as to not endanger the workers or damage our roof. I planned to work from home all day, so that I would be around to supervise the work. Wednesday morning came around and Thomas NEVER showed up, NEVER called us, and NEVER returned any of our calls. I am very unhappy with the reliability and professionalism displayed by Thomas Painting Service. If Thomas was not able to complete our paint job, I would have preferred to know up front so that I could hire another painter. Now 3 weeks later from when I first contacted Thomas, I am scrambling to find another painter that can do the job by the end of the summer. Thomas Paint Service is unreliable and the reasonable quotes are not worth the headache. There is no possible way this painting service could ever have gotten a five star review that was legit. Initial estimate interview went well, even though the price felt a bit high for the small rooms he was to paint. He came in with a painter on the date we agreed. That painter didn't finish after spending the entire day at our house. Thomas came back the next day with another man who "finished", but left bubbles in the cheap paint they supplied (not the Benjamin Moore paint I requested, but a cheap knock off.. photo attached). After Thomas himself came back on yet another day to fix the spots that were poorly done and take out nails that were never removed and painted over, he was done. We paid him. He charged us extra for a closet that never had any nails removed and patched, they were just painted over, and the closet ceiling never got painted. We are in the process of patching those spots and fixing their mistakes. This painter is a joke and a rip off. read more

Unfortunately we did not have the same experience as the other reviewers. We were quoted high but accepted because of this company's online reviews. It was supposed to be a full three day job but the two very young men that painted for us were done in less than 8 hours total. This excited us until we looked closer. We emailed "Thomas" several pictures to show all of the mistakes and he simply replied that they would fix it. Awkwardly, he sent back the same two boys the next morning and they had no clue what needed to be fixed. When I showed them, they fixed a few areas but told me they couldn't patch anything because it would show. So basically, the walls that they were forced to do two coats on, look decent. The other walls have mistakes and show their patching when the light hits them. Not to mention, they do not remove any hardware or socket plates and did not tape and there are areas where this caused a problem. It was beyond awkward to have to show two young men the mistakes they needed to fix when they were clearly in a hurry to leave. We never received a follow up call from Thomas to make sure we were satisfied but he did cash our check. read more
