We found a free parking spot a bock away. This green market is a Saturday morning destination, an open air marketplace at Old School Square off Swinton & Atlantic Avenues. During the summers, they're open from 9 until 1:00, October through May 9 until 2:00 o'clock. There are over 50 vendors here featuring farm to fork produce, fish, meats, orchids, just picked citrus and juice, farm fresh eggs, milk & butter, artisan baked goods, fresh cut flowers, plants, and gourmet prepared foods with live musical entertainment weekly. After :90 we couldn't eat nor carry any more. We left with fresh pompano from Captain Clay, lots of pristine organic produce, mango honey, fresh spinach fettuccine, and pistachio butter. Prices were high but quality gourmet items usually are. There was a police presence here. The Beatles Tribute band were in costume & performed through out. Everyone was friendly & courteous and the beautiful dogs were leashed and well behaved.

They pack and ship under the names of Private Labels, East Coast Farms, and Broadline. East Coast has one of the only year-round cold storage packing facilities located in Florida. Their 38,000 square foot cold storage and packing warehouse allows them to sell to food service companies, wholesalers, and brokers. I was scrolling through Facebook when I received a notice that East Coast was offering a $10 box of produce on Saturday. I am always looking to incorporate more vegetables into my diet and with Thanksgiving coming up it seemed to perfect time to try them. The building is clearly marked and boxes were sold from 10 AM until they ran out. I was greeted with a smile and a hearty hello. All you have to do is drive around the warehouse, pop the trunk, hand them the money, they put your box in, and away you go. When I got home my box was still cold and in it I received 3 ears of corn, 3 large carrots, 2 cucumbers, 2 zucchini, 2 large yellow squash, 2 peppers, 2 onions, and asparagus. The sweet potatoes are so large that they are all I need for Thanksgiving dinner and I look forward to baking a loaf of zucchini bread tomorrow. I have an awesome prosciutto and pasta recipe for the asparagus. A family member saw the squash and wanted to know how I found such large ones. The produce is so fresh and super sized. I feel like I got a bargain. The box was practically paid with the asparagus and peppers alone compared to what Publix charges for just those two vegetables. I am super happy with my purchase and will definitely be back.

As you drive in, a (masked) young man hands you an order form with what's available for the day. You fill out the form as your car is in line. They were out of the first $10 veggie box with avocados and butternut squash, but we figured we'd get the second box with a small watermelon and zucchini instead. We also added on peaches and some eggplant. When we got to the head of the line by the tented area, a young gal takes your order form and your cash. They then deliver your order to your opened car trunk. When we got home, we saw what was in the box and the rest of the order. The extras -- the eggplants were small but that's fine. The peaches looked wonderful -- but were hard as rocks. I cut a couple up to try with whipped cream. So disappointing. I'm hoping they'll ripen a bit. If not, I'll cook them or use in a pie or cobbler. If my experience was solely based on the peaches, I'm not sure I'd come back. In our $10 box, were 4 apples, 3 onions, 4 small sweet potatoes, a zucchini with a chunk missing, a large acorn squash, 3 cubanelle peppers, and small watermelon. We are so hoping that the watermelon is sweet... I think you have to get a few combos to find out which of their products you like. That way you can decided if it's better to order "a la carte" or stick with the prepackaged boxes. Now, to find some recipes to use my new set of veggies! I'm so glad these farms decided to do this to raise money when their normal sources were not using as much of their produce. It's a great idea -- for all of us. Plus it gets us to eat more veggies!

There were tons of fresh fruits and veggies that looked genuinely local and just-picked, plus plenty of tasty BBQ and hot sauces to sample (dangerously easy to get hooked). And the honey stands were a highlight, with friendly bees buzzing around like they were giving their stamp of approval. What really stood out was how welcoming everyone was. So many vendors were happy to share the story behind what they're selling, and you can tell they're proud of it. We ended up grabbing a bottle of honey and a bottle of BBQ sauce and still didn't spend more than $20.00. Already can't wait to go back.

Just show it to the parking guides. We rarely see horses here during the market, but it sometimes seems that EVERYONE brings their dog. Any many of the vendors cater to the dogs as well, selling dog food, treats, doggie duds, toys and more. Parkland's dog parks, (one for little dogs and one for large dogs), called Barkland, are right down the road from the Farmer's Market. It is not a large market, but it has a nice selection of items. Many of the vendors give out tasting samples. There are food trucks as well, and a covered seating area, so feel free to buy food at the market and eat breakfast, brunch or lunch right there. The people who sell honey let you taste any and all. Be sure you taste brfore you buy. The honeys have a very broad range of flavors and colors, with avocado honey being almost avocado green...Really! The french bakery has yummy breads & pastries.The croissants are fresh, yet, when we sat down to eat them at the market, we decided we like them better lightly toasted with butter and/or honey on them. I'm bringing the rest home. Samples are always free at the apple cider donut booth, kettle korn, paela, dips, salsas, banana breads, (one if our favorite vendors). Believe it or not, the item least represented are fruits and vegetables. You'd think that at a Farmer's Market, there would be more. Many of the fruits and veggies even come complete with stickers, printed with codes for the supermarket. Not everything is homegrown.... They, however, usually have homegrown tomatoes, eggplants, zuchini, carrots, string beans, cheeses and more. . Other vendors sell veggie sprouts, many varieties of mushrooms (sometimes), various homemade clothes, granola, hot sauces, dips, The fish guy sells fresh fish salads, whatever he has caught in the last couple of days. The pickle guy is very popular, selling al different kinds of pickles. We've been to two other produce places in south Florida before and each place has been a bit different. In one of the places, you could also purchase some veggies (or fruits) individually. One other place was okay, but some of the products in the box were a bit past their prime. This was our first time coming to Mecca Farms. This was such an easy experience. $10 cash only. Pull up, pay the money, and they put the box in your car. Everyone was masked and so were we. There wasn't a line at all when we came -- just one car ahead of us. When we got home, everything in the box looked like it had just been picked off the vine or bush. It was a gorgeous array of colors. Our box today had: eggplant, zucchini, green peppers, Cubanel peppers, poblano peppers, yellow squash, red tomatoes, yellow tomatoes, and a pound box of strawberries. I had to taste one of the yellow tomatoes right away -- sliced with a touch of salt. It puts those grocery chain tomatoes to shame. So much flavor. After dinner, we had some of the plant city strawberries for dessert. The ripe red berries were huge and so sweet. They doing this again tomorrow should you be in the area. Just check their website or Facebook page to see their schedule. If in doubt, send them a message to ask for produce sales dates. I'm sure we will buy from them again. The $10 price is a bargain. It's especially a deal when the produce is of the high quality that we got today.

Mecca Family Farms is offering a drive through. They have partnered with Fresh Start Produce Sales, a grower based company in Delray Beach. When you pull up you get a menu of what they have that day, place your order, and then pop the trunk and the workers who are masked and gloved put the boxes in. Payment is cash or Venmo. All boxes are $10. There were maybe 15 cars in front of me and the line went very quickly. You can follow them on Facebook for updates on what they have and recipes so you can use your produce. All of the vegetables are locally grown. My vegetable box included 2 green bell peppers, 2 poblano peppers, 3 green chili peppers, 3 cubanelles, 3 ears of corn, 2 zucchini, 2 cucumbers, 3 Kirby cucumbers, an eggplant, 5 red tomatoes, 4 yellow tomatoes, a head of iceberg lettuce, and romaine lettuce. You really get a lot for only $10. Some of the things I am going to make are a salad, BLT's, and zucchini bread. The peppers, especially the hot ones are a little more challenging since I don't usually cook with them. If the mangoes from my tree ripen in time I will use the jalapenos for salsa. Maybe I'll make stuffed poblano and green bell peppers. I am taking it as a challenge to find recipes to use the peppers. The $10 fruit box is usually mixed but they only had blueberries left and they gave you four pints. I use a ton of blueberries so they will go fast. I throw them into my smoothies and if I have enough I have a recipe for blueberry cobbler I have been wanting to make. There are so many reasons to come and get produce. A portion of sales goes to the Restoration Bridge International, a Lake Worth charity that provides food to the needy in Palm Beach County. You are helping local farms during a time when many of them are having to leave their crops to rot on the vine due to lack of demand. Most of all you are getting a great deal that can spark your cooking creativity and improve your health. There is nothing better tasting than a fresh box of farm fresh vegetables and fruit.

The market began in April of 2025. It is held every Sunday in the parking lot from 9 to 1 with free community Yoga at 9:30 AM. The market supports small businesses, farms, and artisans. There were two rows of tents selling local produce, clothes, jewelry, organic coffee, cold pressed juice, raw dairy, cheese, chocolate, fudge, prepared food, stone crab claws, seafood, microgreens, fresh baked bread and bagels, beauty products, pottery, spices. rum cake, gut health, raw honey, plants, Italian ice, and more. They also had knife sharpening. This is a dog and family friendly event. The weather was beautiful and it was so nice to leisurely shop and checked out the variety of vendors. Everyone was so friendly and I enjoyed supporting small businesses in the welcoming community atmosphere.

ALDI takes some getting used to when you're accustomed to the full-service supermarkets that are…read morepopular in South Florida like Publix. It's a Germany company and they do things differently to keep the prices very, very low. Most folks aren't used to cart deposits. Yes, you will need to insert a quarter into the lock to release the cart. You get it back when you return the cart. This saves ALDI the cost of an employee running around the parking lot to bring the carts back. Most folks aren't used to bringing their own shopping bags. Yes, ALDI will sell you bags instead of the usual unlimited bags (at least here where the government doesn't require selling them). Oh, and you'll be bagging your own groceries instead of an employee doing it. The selection is limited, generally only a single brand of products and that generally isn't a name brand. ALDI's generic brand is very good but people may prefer a name brand. All of this and more to keep the payroll costs down. There generally aren't more than four or so employees in the store at any time. Low cost for them translates to low prices for you.
