George finished up some work for me earlier this week. It was clear to me that he is very busy because people probably look at his ratings on here and call him first. After interacting with him over the course of the project, here's what I think others should know: If you judge a tradesperson on personality (which obviously is probably not the way you should be determining a review, in my opinion). Then know this: 1. George is a straight shooter. He initially didn't come off as personable as I would've liked, but by the end of the project I checked myself and also understood why, and our interactions also changed. I called George for a non-emergency project right before temperatures dropped to freezing and everything went to crap around here (I.e. pipes freezing, bursting around the city/County). He agreed to take on my project and then was most likely bombarded by others with more extreme issues than myself. It was obvious he was busy and I almost let him off the hook for my project because I was feeling like he didn't have time. We talked it out and it was fine, we continued on. 2. The "busy-ness" I was feeling was George actually trying to come through for everyone that he could commit to. He may initially come off with a tough exterior, but it is clear he is just trying to get his job done well, in the appropriate time period, with no BS, so he can continue on and help someone else too. 3. If you read his profile/website (I don't remember where I saw it) you'll see at one point he had five trucks in his business and then went back down to one. This is a man who is committed to his job (and enjoys it) but isn't into the corporate BS. Because of what he had posted about himself, I assumed he was a "control freak" and I cannot confirm, nor deny that he may be self-aware enough to know that too. Which brings me to the actual important part... If you judge a tradesperson on quality of work and pricing (the part I can get behind) then George is absolutely someone to consider. 1. That "control freak" attribute comes out in his quality of work. (This is a positive, for those of you who can't read between the lines.) I know enough about plumbing to know that he didn't cut corners or do the project improperly. He came in, did the work, and headed out to the next job. When he needed something from me, he told me. 2. His price was reasonable. Know the saying "you get what you pay for"? Well, I feel like it's true. I feel comfortable with the price I paid for the work that was done. Sometimes time is money. And this project would've taken me weeks when it took him days. Paying for experience and having access to the correct tools is worth it sometimes, even though I'm an avid DIYer. 3. He personally manages his phone calls and always calls 15-30 minutes before arriving, telling you how long his gps says it will take to get to your house. Very helpful for people like me who commute a longer distance to work and need to head out on time. And when the man says he'll be there at 7 am, he means it. 4. When I thought he left the water off at the house after working that day (but it just happened to be Baltimore County who shut it off cause of a water main break, thanks BMore...) he quickly answered my text messages at nearly 9 pm and helped me troubleshoot (because it was pure coincidence that the water wasn't working). I would highly recommend George for your next job, but know that the straightforward experience you'll probably get over the phone is just because the man answers his own phone and actually cares to work, a lot, and make sure he can provide services to as many people as possible. "JUST WOW" Like many of you, I found myself in need of a plumber. Did the usual google searches. 1st estimate came from Horizon Services in the amount of $918.00. He was very professional listening to me detail what I needed done. Based on my description Mr Thomas quoted me a price of $315.00. He scheduled me for 6-1-19 at 7:00 am. I was very pleased to say the least. Mr Thomas arrived this morning 20 mins early. He completed all three items I needed repaired for the price quoted. He was very respectful an professional in my home. He unboxed all the items he replaced in front of me as well as gave me tips on how I could save even more money on another repair needed. NON- PROFESSIONAL, VERY RUDE AND PSYCHE, ALWAYS IN A HURRY I am very much surprised reading all good reviews about Thomas the Plumber. Unfortunately we had the worst experience with this guy, George. We had dripping water in our bathroom faucet. That guy came , drilled out one of the tap and said he has no parts for fixing it. And the store where he is going to get them is closed for a week. I found Thomas on Yelp and liked the reviews. Although there were just a couple of bad reviews, I didn't let that scare me away because let's be honest, you can't please everyone! I had water and waste coming out of my basement shower off and on for months. I paid a plumber to come out and they snaked it but I continued to have the problem. I then called a popular plumbing company and they were going to charge me a very expensive amount of money that I didn't have. So the issue continued to go on off and on for months. I finally got tired and looked on Yelp for a plumber that I could trust. I found Thomas and called him the day before yesterday. He said that he didn't have any emergency appointments available that day but I explained to him that it wasn't an emergency because it's been going on for months. He was able to put me in the next day which was yesterday. He gave me an estimate over the phone and a small window of when he would be there. Although I did not meet Thomas in person because I had to go to work, my sister stayed at the house when he showed up. It turned out to be sewer back up on the city side. He gave me an option of just paying the cost of him coming out and then calling the city to come fix it for free or he could fix it for a charge that was actually cheaper than the estimate he gave me. His cable line broke when pulling the cable out and then said that I had to pay more because of that. When I said no he started yelling at me and throwing his tools. When the sewer backed up in a rental property of mine in Highlandtown, he came over the next day and was able to ascertain that the problem was a sewer line clogged with tree roots. I had an old 4 hole faucet break on me, George came out and the first faucet I ordered would not fit, the second I ordered was an issue as well because the way my kitchen was built the space to tighten a new faucet was almost non accessible. We got the new faucet installed, which required multiple attempts at making a custom setup involving a larger diameter pipe as long vertical washer. Faucet is installed and stable!
