I took a dress here today to dry clean. They told me it was permanently stained and they couldn't do anything to help me. The dress was important to me and I went home crushed because it was labeled dry clean only. I felt the lady shame me about the state of the dress. As a last ditch effort to save a beautiful dress, I sprayed it with stain remover and soaked it in cold water with oxy clean. Fingers crossed, ready to abandon my dress, all the "apparently" lifelong stains are gone. There is one stain remaining in the lining of the dress. That you never see. Knee high stain in the lining of a floor length formal dress. Wow. Never been before, never going here again. Try somewhere else. read more

Tried this place in a whim after my go to spot closed down. I brought it two pairs of paints, and a blazer at noon and was able to pick them up the following afternoon. Also had a ripped shirt repaired. Total was $47. I will go back. read more

I have been going here for many years now, mostly for dry cleaning. The service is great. They know me when I walk in and get my pickup ready. The clothes come out clean, and when they haven't, Thornhill redid them for no extra charge. I have even had minor work done, like un-sewing sport coat pockets, at no charge. This place is terrible. I brought three valuable dresses and a vintage jacket that belonged to my grandmother. I checked with them repeatedly about their ability and comfort with vintage and they assured me it would be fine. The jacket was returned with two out of the four buttons missing and they're not replaceable at all. They tried to gaslight me and say they were never there. I had taken a photo right before bringing it in with the buttons all there. They still denied any issue. Another dress I brought that was a huge splurge and very expensive by my standards was damaged beyond repair- they pressed and flattened the ruching and it's ruined. On top of this, they were mysteriously closed twice when I tried to pick up during open hours. I wish I hadn't trusted this business. read more

I've been using them for the last year-16 months exclusively. Recently went to pick up 8 shirts and a pair of trousers. They said I pick upped already which I had not. They said the computer shows it, which I am sure it does. Then they asked for the claim ticket took it out my hand threw it away. I demanded the ticket back which they did give too me. Ok, neither do I, but my grandfather told me those days used to exist and I believe that Thornhill Cleaners not only remembers those days, but is a current example of them. I recently dropped off my favorite coat on the way to work to have a button sewn back on (so, I hate sewing). Not only did she offer to have it ready for me to pick up on my way home from work the SAME DAY, but when I did pick it up she told me to take it, free of charge. Now I know that it probably took her less than 10 minutes to sew the button on, but that's not the point. In a neighborhood (Montclair) chockablock with dry cleaners, Thornhill Cleaners absolutely rules! The owners are the nicest people, they have a computerized system that works like a charm, they have a big Costco bucket of red licorice on the counter, and most importantly, THEY REMEMBER YOUR NAME. Oh yeah, and they also do a great job and never lose anything. Can I tell you how many dry cleaners I have patronized for years and they still ask me for my name every time I drop something off. Drives me nuts! And the times that a cleaner washed my comforter instead of dry cleaning it - and it was ruined! Or my favorite dress coming back with no buttons. Or losing a brand new sweater. WTF? Lily and Grace are always helpful, friendly and kind. Thornhill Cleaners is always good at getting out stains and making garments and table cloths look good. If the item has a bad stain, they are great at letting me know how likely it is that it can be removed. I have never had anything less than a great experience with them and I have been a loyal customer since the 1990's. I highly recommend their dry cleaning service. read more

I have never had a bad experience with these people. My shirts and pants come back extremely clean and looking amazing. They charge about $2 a shirt which i find to be cheap for SF and about $5 for pants which i have found to be typical, this is for the dry cleaning service. My girlfriend got her pants altered there and even though that was a bit pricey for an easy alteration we are still happy with this place. Every time Me or my girlfriend come in they happily great us and generally will address us by our name. read more

Good for dry cleaning, terrible for alterations. I brought two shirts to be taken in there and they were way too conservative. Now I have to redo them or take them to the men's suit place on Piedmont Ave that actually does work shirts correctly. A complete waste of my money. But the actual dry cleaning seemed decent and I will probably repeat that for sheer convenience. However I will never use them for alterations as they are too conservative in their changes. read more

I don't have many clothes that need dry cleaning, but when I was going through my closet a week or so ago, I was very upset to discover that my beautiful white Albert Nipon suit that I wore when I got married had been ruined (or so I thought). A padded hanger had disintegrated all over the collar and shoulders, plus there was a years'-old makeup stain on the lapel. I figured this expensive designer evening suit was ready for the garbage, but I decided to take it to Thornhill Cleaners. Less than week later, it was returned to me good as new for under $16. To say I am pleased would be an understatement. Although I don't know when I will ever have occasion to wear this suit again, it has great sentimental value (and it still does fit!).
