Small, busy restaurant just around the block from the Hynes Convention Center. They seem to have a lot of business from the local hotels and apartment residents. Breakfast is served all day...there were a good amount of choices on the menu, even quite a few meatless options. I had the Eggs Magnifico, because it sounded crazy but not weird...I guess they delivered. It was a layer of scrambled egg served over yellow rice. On top of that was a marinara sauce that I didn't remember seeing on the menu and 2 types of cheese (one appeared to be american cheese slices). Okay, so maybe it was weird, but it wasn't bad...balanced well with my bottomless cup of coffee, the generous portion kept me full for most of the day. My buddy who I was eating with had the eggs benedict and said the sauce was amazing... Service was good but not great, but when we were there, every table was filled and people were still waiting for a seat. Was a lil' noisy due to some construction that they were doing in their bathroom, but you could still hold a conversation so I'm totally willing to over look that. I've been seeing the hype and decided to check it out for myself. It turns out that it's pretty popular here, cause I had to wait half an hour to get seated! And the line behind me kept on going and going until about 1pm. Giving this place a 3 because I thought it was a cute little diner that's definitely great for a group of 3-6 people, but the food was just ok for me. I do see potential for future visits. The food was pretty good, nothing amazing I would say but it was good enough to consider it a place I'd go to again. I probably just got the wrong stuff. I got their "Morning Delight"- an 8 inch round french toast with poached eggs, mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil (and olives). I thought the french toast here lacked some flavor, but I'm assuming their other french toast options are great. Paired that with a fresh squeezed orange juice that I know I'll get the next time I come here. My friend got the "Western" which was basically just a breakfast omelette/sandwich sort of thing that was just alright for me. I kind of got sick of it after eating half of her half (a quarter of the sandwich). The home fries that go with them were my favorite part though! After picking up my brother in law from the airport early on a Saturday, we decided to go check it out. Thornton's isn't huge but has a decent amount of seating. We opened the place up at 8 AM on a Saturday morning, but it didn't take long for the place to fill up. They have a pretty good sized menu to satisfy a variety of palates. I decided to start with their hot chocolate, and it was delicious, with real cream and a very smooth flavor. I had heard good things about their eggs Benedict, and they had a plethora of options to choose from. I went with the Italian eggs Benedict, which includes focaccia, prosciutto, and a pesto / Parmesan sauce, along with a side of bacon for good measure. It was divine. The flavors melded perfectly together, and the portion size was great. Everyone else at the table ordered the breakfast burrito, and it was also huge and looked amazing, and they all raved about it. The service was fairly attentive, and the food came out quickly and super hot and fresh. The portions are very large, and the prices were good (the Benedict dish was under $9). As we were leaving, the place was packed, and there was already a line of folks waiting, even with it being in the 20's outside. If you're looking for a fantastic breakfast spot downtown Boston, you should steer yourself over to Thornton's. Affordable local eatery that's putting out a quality breakfast at a fair price. They need to do a better job in the colder months of finding an acceptable waiting area. Surely they could put up some kind of collapsible cover just outside in the enclave, rather than have people wait unprotected on the sidewalk. Staff is friendly and attentive. Water and coffee are refilled readily. Not the best place for groups, as for the most part, tables are limited to 4. They offer counter style seating for singles and/or couples. We were staying down the street and decided to give this place a try for breakfast. They were pretty busy when we got there and it was obvious that they were very short staffed, but we were seated within 10 minutes. Our server was definitely doing the best she could with how busy they were. I got the salmon eggs benedict and my husband got the amaretto French toast. Both were pretty good, but the potatoes that came with mine were extremely spicy. Overall, good place to try if you're in the area. This breakfast was outstanding, and so was the service. One awesome, friendly, efficient woman was working ALL the front-of-house jobs: hostess, server, busser. She greeted and sat us quickly, delivered bottomless coffee before we asked for a warm-up, and brought our plates when the food was HOT. I had the Menemen with added feta and a side of Sujuk. It was savory, well-spiced without being spicy-hot (I added Tabasco), and super filling. The Sujuk was grilled crisp. It came with homefries which I don't eat, but my husband said the ones accompanying his generous omelette (spinach, mushroom, feta & sausage) were crisp and delicious. good food, but wasn't happy with how they handled their service charge policies. we showed up in a group of 11 but since they didn't have any large tables, we were separated into 3 tables distanced from each other (with 4, 4 and 3 people at each) which was fine and totally understandable. when we paid, they added the large-group service charge (for parties of 6+ people) even though they served us as if we were 3 separate groups and didn't inform us about it until we paid with tip and noticed it on the receipt afterward. while i understand having service charges for large tables, it didn't make sense to charge us in this case and even if they still had to "due to policy," they should be informing us so customers don't end up paying essentially 40% tip. read more

I decided to go for the make your own omelette where you can add anything you want for $8.64. I added tomatoes, red onions, mushrooms, spinach, turkey, and provolone cheese. Went here for the first time with two guests from out of town. Seating is cramped, and the waiter laughed when my friend asked about gluten free options when ordering. He told her to get the side of fruit then laughed (I wish I was joking...interestingly enough she did order fruit as a side with with an omelet but never received it). The food was average but did taste good. Getting drink refills was almost impossible though during our meal and flagging down our waiter for the check took forever.
