I've gone to Three Flames for several years but it's clearly seen better days. The meat and vegetables looked okay, but not as fresh appearing as at other Mongolian BBQ's. The food seemed very salty, which must be due to the sauces (although I did not use any of the soy sauce, it tasted as though did) and in the past I had not had this problem so maybe the sauce I used was mislabeled. The atmosphere is poor. It's an old place, and needs a very good cleaning. The ventilation isn't very good and the smoke of the cooking food was a bit much. As others have noted, they have a tv set with the volume way too loud tuned to Fox News. Whatever ones political views, it seems very odd that a restaurant would chose this channel and when I go out to eat I certainly don't want to hear a heated political discussion in the background. That was extremely annoying and inappropriate. The service was poor--think they may have cut back in the number of employees (only 2, the owner and one cook, were there for dinner). The owner means well, but she's very loud, running around all the time talking to herself, and it's just odd. The hinge on the freezer was broken, and the owner was complaining about the manufacturer and how she can not get the part (it's a very old freezer). Prices are high for what you get--it was $41 for 2 people for dinner with no alcohol--certainly not a lot for going out for dinner, but given the atmosphere and overall experience one could easily go to another place for similar $'s and have a much better time. The hostess they've always had until recently has been barely tolerable. She hovers and tells you what bowls to use for choosing your food to be grilled. The newest hostess is a crazy jerk. She did the controlling bowl thing and then hovered over me in line and made me come up and pay before the guy could cook my food. She was beligerant about it and was blatantly rude. I have been going to Three Flames Mongolian bbq for many years now and I would call it a "mom and pop" type of restaurant. It definitely has a warm and authentic feeling that gives you the sense of eating in your mom's kitchen. Although, I would agree that the decor is not modern and leaves you wanting, do you go home to enjoy a meal and complain about the decor? If you are lucky enough to go on a day that the boss lady is there, you will hear her chatting up a storm with everyone and spreading her cheerfulness. It's something I always look forward to when I go there. Making a good plate of Mongolian bbq is somewhat of an art and unique to each persons palate so be patient. It might take a bit of practice to get the right combination. When you do get it right, stuff your hot sesame bread and enjoy a little piece of heaven. read more

Pretty standard Mongolian BBQ faire the one exception is their fresh cooked biscuits which come out warm and flakey. Lunch is not all you can eat but I found the large portion ample. Space is a little small and the restroom was missing paper towels in the towel dispenser. I advised the waitress about the towels but she ended up not addressing the issue. read more

Went here for lunch today. The owner was very helpful and instructed us on the proper saucing of our bowls before we started piling in the food. I can see why some people think she's a little rough, but I got a real kick outta her. I got the regular size lunch, and it's going to be my dinner as well. HUGE portions. Once you fill up three little bowls with meat, noodles, and veggies, it turns into a full-on feast. great place to go to if you are catching a flight or dropping off friends. when I am taking a flight I will always go to lax super early and check in to my flight first then go to Denny's to eat before returning to lax to take my flight. couple days ago we were dropping off some friend after they check in their bags at the lax we decided to eat somewhere close by before they leave for their flight. so I check GPS and found this restaurant, it's about 2 miles from Lax. the server there is super nice. food is great. lot's of veggie selection. make sure you order the sesame bread (?) not sure what the exact name is but you can put the cook meat in there, (similar to taco). Very good. You build your meal and they cook it. So pick a protein, add noodles, and then select the veggies you want by filling a bowl. They have sauces to add and even make sauce amount suggestions. Very easy process and was very tasty. We were staying at a nearby hotel because we were flying out in the morning. I was working near by the three flames Mongolian BBQ restaurant and went there for lunch. The minute I walked in I was greeted by the owner Barbara. She made me feel like we've known each other for years until I relized she greeted everyone like that. She proceeded to Tell me the cooking process on how authentic Mongolian is prepared. She has the real mocoy grill brought over the Far East.. it is made of galvanized steel not stainless steel. The is a differences. The taste and flavor. When I tried the veggies and the meat I was blown away. I've been to other Mongolian BBQ restaurants and they didn't taste this good! This place is killer good and clean too! We stumbled upon this place before the Prince show last night. Decided to try some food of the Mongol's for my fiance's sake. She had never had it and we're both vegan, so I had to insure her that it could be made safe for us. To our delight, they really 'spoke vegan' there. Our meals were full of all sorts of savory veggies and great smoked tofu. I chose just the right amount of spiciness to add to my bowl using their handy charts. Our friends definitely got their carnivore fill there too. Our friend Melissa actually ended up with just meat leftover on her plate when she was done. One note, we got the 'lunch' special and can't really imagine eating all of the 'dinner' version. It's the same thing, only bigger. I used to come here during lunch when I work close to the area. I havent been here ever since I switched job. I decided to return and was actually excited to get that bowl & pack in as much meat/veggies as much as possible, just as I used to do before. Turns out, you can't do that anymore and now it's all preset. I was totally disappointed. But overall I think it's a decent place, the food was...good but disappointed of the change. Over priced for what you get. The owner is nice but its weird that we can't serve the meat ourselves. We have to wait for someone to get it for us or if u want mixed protein its an extra charge.
