The seats are damaged , the servers are old and disrespectful, they don't dust at all just look in that place and the people in charge of handling issues won't fix them . The food was good, the service was horrible the cleanliness was HORRIBLE, the chairs were torn vinyl, there was sticky stuff on the floor and absolutely ZERO ambiance to make it look like a Chinese restaurant! .No red tablecloths, NO knick knacks, no fake flowers, nothing on the table -- not even salt & pepper. The minute we ordered within 5 seconds, we were handed the check on a little tray BEFORE the food even came which I found was really weird and the entire time we were there not 1 person came to the table and said is everything okay? do you need anything? nothing. This place used to be my go-to spot for quick, cheap, decent Chinese food in Chinatown, with friendly service. They are no longer any of those things. The employees now are rude and nasty rather than friendly. Several dishes have doubled in price; all have gone up more than anywhere else in the area. They wanted $2 for a single fortune cookie that as of 3 months ago was free with my order. My chicken fried rice with no green or spring onions took 42 minutes (they weren't even busy) AND HAD ONIONS IN IT BUT JO CHICKEN. She wasn't even going by the menu price, but somehow rounded up to 10.00 even. For rice with onions. That I am allergic to. So no longer quick, friendly, cheap, or tasty. Yes, this place is not as fancy as the other restaurants, but they do have a full menu including Dim Sum. We decided to order some Dim Sum dishes, the egg drop soup, order of egg rolls and my guest ordered the Mongolian Beef. I came here on a late Sunday night for take out. I saw great reviews and saw that they were open late so I decided to order from here. When you walk in you can totally see that it's outdated and there are so many articles of how great this place is on the walls and displayed throughout the restaurant. So in my head I'm thinking I scored. It was about 11 at night and there was a good 15 people eating in and two other people besides me ordering take out. Great! Its probably amazing here. I ordered some sesame chicken, beef lo mein, and combination fried rice. Overall the food was ok. The lo mein noodles were really dry and but they did have a great variety of vegetables and very little beef. Which I dont mind since I'm not so big on meat. I add beef mainly for more flavor. Anyways, the chunks of beef that were in were huge. The fried rice was a solid 7 since it didnt have much flavor to it. The sesame chicken was a good 8 because they were so tender. And my daughter loved it. I got some hot sauce which I believe was expired because it had a very odd taste. And the food had a burned taste to it. Small place and very easy to miss if you are not looking up to check out the name boards. Will always remember this place because of the COVID notice that they had put up, it said like "No Mask - No Come In" - we had a good laugh on this, we just found it soo funny! Anyway, we went on a Saturday around 1 PM. Place was not too packed, and I think it is a family run business. We had especially gone for the dim sums following a city trail of good dim sums published by eater Chicago. On being seated, they gave us their full menu, not the dim sum menu. On asking if they do dim sums, they gave us the dim sum menu (not as extensive as other dim sum places) and also mentioned it will take 20-30 mins if we order from there. We were not in a rush and decided to wait it out. We got the Pork Dumplings, Coconut Mochi, Stuffed Peppers and Deep Fried Rice Crepes with meat. Food was good but nothing to brag about. Staff was very nice and friendly and took the effort to chat even with their limited English which was nice. Take outs seemed to be their main dig from what we could make out and in house diners mostly came for their Cantonese entrees. Our dim sum experience was a little underwhelming because of the wait and the limited options. We will however try to do a take out some other time for their main food menu. read more

Prior to our visit, I had looked inside the Three Happiness Original Restaurant many times, but never dined there before as it was always crowded. All I knew was that old time Chicago cognoscenti of Cantonese cuisine praised their food. We had the small no-frills dining area to ourselves. The menu was extensive. We started with two easy but (to me) essential appetizers: egg rolls and shrimp toast. Both were exactly what they should be, with fresh, easy-to-like tastes. We followed with two entrees, shrimp with Chinese vegetables and Singapore noodles. Again, they met with our satisfaction, as they were cooked properly with good quality ingredients. Every person working in the front of the house visited our table at some point in the meal, and they were all very polite and welcoming. It is harder to read expressions when someone is masked, of course, but I thought the table service was just right. I heard the conversations of those coming in to pick up carry-out orders and it was obvious how much the regular customers love this restaurant and the kind folks who operate it. In summary, the dishes were competent, generous portions of the kind of Chinese comfort food I have known all my life. read more

First thing was the portion size. The Shrimp were good sized. but for the first time I was taken back as its freshness was not as good as before. Granted it was Monday at 1:45pm is fresh quality shrimp not available anymore? IDK It was prepared differently like they skipped a step mainly quick flash stir fry of the onion and jalapeño the portions was a bit smaller on the plate. I was hoping to see some familiar faces but this place may have changed owners or kitchen staff. I previously refused to review and share, people who knew knew and I had no interest in making one of my family favorite places any busier than it already was. This is my first time to order from this place, and it's my last time as well. I barely write reviews especially negative one. There was still a label on the green pepper in my Singapore noodles! They probably even didn't wash the vegetables. I understand different restaurants have their own recipes and ways to cook, but I don't think the Generals Tso's chicken is right. When I saw it, especially the sauce and chicken were departed, I thought it was Orange Chicken, anyway the taste was terrible. 2 stars is for thanking all the work. I have been eating at this restaraunt ever since I was a little girl (I'm 39 now!) We have always ordered the Beef and Chinese broccoli with Rice noodles. I have yet to find another Chinese restaraunt that can even hold a candle to this restaraunt anywhere close to home. This spot used to be the business. They had another location across the street that was just as good. Times have changed & they have not. The decor is the same. The vibe was dead here too. No tv on. No music. U can hear people's conversations, smacking, the utensils hitting their plates. The service was sub par, not bad but nothing extra. Female bus girl brought over tea which is what I drank and tap water which I don't drink. The server was nice, loud but not the most informed. I asked about a picture I saw in the menu. He brought over 2 examples of the noodles which was nice. Otherwise when the dish came it looked nothing like the picture. He told me they get their menu pictures from the internet. What???? False pretenses. I did not like that. The veggie soup I ordered tasted like they boiled some tap water & placed veggies in bowl. Definitely no flavor, definitely don't order unless u like bland food. The chicken noodle dish was oversaturated with sauce, gravy. Way too much!! I'm going to take it home and re-cook it to reduce some of the extra extra sauce. The crab Rangoon was actually the best part of the meal & the tea. Though it was pricey. My partner ordered the egg fried rice which he said was ok. He said he had to use a lot of soy sauce. Not good. I saw they had several stained ceiling tiles. I guess they are expensive to replace...NOT!!! The walls had sauce stains; no recent wipe down guys??? The condiments were caked with sauce....gross!!! Even had the chili garlic sauce on table which the bottle clearly stated to refrigerate after opening. Would I recommend this spot?? Absolutely not!!! I am now in my 50s and the place is still here and can be relied on to serve up delicious dim sum at very affordable prices. The space can use a remodel. It is stuck in the 80s. We've been coming here for many years but the service, quality of the food and cleanliness has greatly disappeared! The lady at the register has a very bad attitude. We asked for chop sticks & she said "just eat your food w/ your spoon!" Then we said no...chopsticks...so she went & got them. We ordered a crab casserole & it was all greasy w/ no crab meat inside. When we complained they said, "go home." Very rude help & food has become really bad bad bad here. From now on I'll go to Chai Cafe it's in the western end part of the mall. Thank goodness one of my brothers still lives in Chicago so we can come visit and go to Three Happiness. Three Happiness is the classic old school dim sum in Chinatown. I am not good with the names of the items we order, so once again thank you to my brother. Some of our favorites are anything with rice or noodles. Yes we are Chinese. Dumplings are high on our favorite list especially the Har Gow. Chow Fun is something I could eat by myself. Sticky rice, ribs, bbq buns and more. I've been here for over 2 years now and it's awesome. I will always take some of their tea( I think its oolong). During the hours I frequent, I see a bunch of drunkies that are either about to pass out or fight. I will say, I've been there on several occasions where there have been a bunch of ratchetass people yelling and trying to fight each other. The workers there are so unfazed because it's a normal occurrence to them. The place is small and seating is limited, but the wait usually goes quick. The menu is very extensive and every Cantonese classic you can think of is in there. There are also lots of vegetarian friendly options when you have that one friend joining you for dinner.
