Whats good Yelpers?! It's the Fat Boy again & this time I have some pretty good Chinese food here. I'm always looking for some great Chinese food but it's hard to find to my satisfaction. I just happen to get a flyer from Wing Wah Lau and the food looked pretty good so I decided to gave them a try. Inside looks like a place that used to be a sit in restaurant, now it's just a space where you can get good Chinese take out. And we know THOSE ARE THE PLACES FOR GREAT FOOD! Lol. When first going to any place new I try to order the basic. Because if they can't prepare the basic most common dishes Don't even think about trying anything else. So my wife and I ordered some Jumbo Shrimp Fried rice, shrimp egg foo young, fried Wontons & some pot stickers. And I must say everything was pretty good. The Jumbo Shrimp fried rice had a nice amount of "fresh" tasting shrimp. Very fresh & very tasty! (8.5/10) I asked for Jumbo shrimp egg foo young but they only serve regular shrimp egg foo young. Now to that I was disappointed as the small shrimp in Chinese food is normally not divined. But to my surprise these small shrimp were divined!! That was a major plus for me! (8.5/10) the pot stickers I didn't have they were for my wife. They were completely fried I've never seen a fried pot sticker. She said they were just ok she prefers the steamed and pan seared pot stickers she gave them a (5/10) the fried wontons was good! (7/10) I will most definitely be returning to Wing Wah Lau they've just become my place for fresh, tasty and very reasonably priced Chinese take out! It could just be me but once I ordered the hot wings and went to eat there was a beachy smell to them and I couldn't eat them. Bow a few days ago I ordered beef chop suey and I started thinking about what kind of animal I was eating. I'm very special when it comes to Chinese food. I've ordered before from this place and has never disappointed, today in particular I decided to stay home and have it delivered through Grubhub and I placed my order at 7:03pm and the driver was at my door by 7:26 so very speedy on both parts. I ordered sesame chicken with a side of shrimp fried rice and it was absolutely perfect. The sauce on the chicken wasn't overwhelming and the rice wasn't dried out like other restaurants. Tried this place for the first time today with co-workers and we all have agreed this is going to be our go to place. The orange chicken was crispy on the outside the sauce was tasty. The beef and gravy was delicious from what one co worker says and she is extremely picky. Egg foo young, general tso and chicken and broccoli all just as delicious. The egg rolls were oh so crispy and tasty as well. The lady even helped me carry out my order (which was not needed at all) but so very thoughtful. I will be back!! Hands down, THE BEST Chinese takeout on the southwest side of Chicago - and I have ordered from nearly all of them. The pictures of the food up above do not do this place justice. I have been eating here since 1987 - I'd stop here late at night to pick up dinner after evening classes at Columbia College. I still order takeout from here and for the sole reason being that the food is always FRESH! No sitting around collecting sauce - I've had the Pad Thai, egg foo young, shrimp fried rice, kung pao chicken and shrimp, curry chicken, and the Mongolian beef is also excellent. Almond cookies are crisp and out of this world. They throw in fortune cookies, too, if you order the full dinner. This place is a life saver for me on the nights when I am too exhausted to even throw a frozen dinner into the oven, or, when I'm just not in the mood to dine out after having worked a full day around a lot of people. Okay to drunk dial if you didn't think you'd actually finish that bottle of Toasted Chardonnay which left you burnt to a crisp and ravenous as hell. I also like to order last call when unexpected visiting friends occasionally come rap, rap rapping on your door after 9:00 pm, expecting to be fed when you have nothing in your refrigerator but some year old frozen Italian meatballs. Nothing gets the party started around the Rita S. household more than a bag o' hot goodies from Wing Wah. You would be wise to heed the Peoples Gas public service video before ordering egg rolls or spring rolls with boo coo cabbage. Don't order the spring rolls with cabbage in particular if any one of your guests has a problem containing their flatulence as it is a well proven scientific fact that gas leaks indoors can be fatal. Oh, and if anyone has an allergy to shellfish, best to keep some Benadryl on hand if ordering the tempura: they are huge and they are delicious as all hell! It's probably my very favorite thing on their extensive menu. What else you need to know: delivery is always quick and food is always delivered HOT. All their drivers are friendly and cordial, as is the lady who takes orders over the phone. For some reason she reminds me of Steve McGarrett's secretary on the old circa 70's Hawaii Five-O. Ordered here for the first time today, and am glad that I did. I ordered the orange chicken and crab rangoons!! Both were excellent, and as i dug deeper into the bag, I see that that they also give you an eggroll and a 7up! Yes!! The food portion was amazing. Couldn't eat it all, so I def will have left overs! I really wish I could give this place a better review but the food was terrible. I ordered some food today for delivery since I was iching for some Chinese food. The crab rangoon was really oily and tasted old. As for my main course of pad thai, wow horrible! The noodles were still hard, I just ate some of the meat and threw out the rest, honestly there was probably 75% of it I did not eat. The only thing that was average was the egg roll but even that was not stellar.
