poached version $16.95 definitely needs the sauce to add flavor, and both sauces are still bomb, I would buy them to use as a marinade or dipping sauce if they bottled these. The roasted chicken $16.95 is good on its own but amazing with the sauce. Sour, savory, a tad spicy, it adds that next level punch. The side salad was fresh. If I had one comment it's been that been portion sizes seem to be a little smaller in my recent orders than a few years ago, maybe it just happens to be the orders I got though also maybe due to shrinkflation. They continue to be one of my go-to take out options in the area and I'll be back!

Favorite rice: the ginger rice (although the sticky rice was also very good). And I liked the tamarind dipping sauce best too. But honestly you can't go wrong with any selection here.

Probably one of the best fried chicken sandwich and fries in the city! It is a hidden gem in midtown west and must try. The Thai iced tea and zag fries are delicious too. Great staff and clean dining area!

it also went well with the zab chicken. The zab seasoning was spicy, sweet and sour which was an interesting flavor profile. It worked though because if I come back, I'd definitely get this again and maybe even the zab fries. The salad and the soup was more of an afterthought. The dipping sauce this came with was quite spicy. I'd pick the zab fried chicken over the regular fried chicken. Since this place is so small, I don't think there's a bathroom for customers (not sure, didn't ask). When you get the receipt, they also give you a guava candy which is a nice touch. They do seem to prefer tips in cash.

Zap Chicken Plate and side of Poached Chicken with Ginger Rice

A small store front with lots of hospitality and yummy options. Zab fried chicken, 5/5: so good! The seasoning is perfect and goes well with chicken rice. Fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned Hainan chicken, 4/5: not the best I've had, but will definitely satisfy any hainese chicken craving would recommend!

Three Roosters is such a hole-in-the-wall place. It's a small space that mostly does takeout, but there's some seating inside if you want to do a sit-down dinner. I ordered the Zab Fried Chicken and my friend ordered the Poached Chicken. Both were different but delicious in their own ways. The Zab Fried Chicken was the perfect balance of crunchy and flavorful, and the Poached Chicken tasted comforting and clean. Service was friendly too. Overall a great experience.

Space is small but does not feel cluttered. The background Thai music (pop) fit the ambiance just fine. Service was friendly and engaging. We had the poached chicken and it is about as great as chicken can be in the U.S. I say that as the flavor and preparation is top notch. The only way to improve is to be in Asia and get true free range chicken, where the meat is more muscular.

Came here for a quick lunch with my sister before a show on a Sunday at around 1:30. It's a small restaurant - it was us and one large group, and that was all the seating they had. Neither of us were super hungry, so we ordered the fried chicken and zab seasoned fries to share. The fried chicken comes with cucumber, ginger rice, sweet chili sauce, and a little bowl of chicken broth. The chicken was good - it was perfectly fried. The fries were nice and crispy. The zab seasoning has hints of lime - it almost reminded me of froot loops so I'm not sure how I felt about that. I also tried the Thai iced tea with lime juice. It was refreshing, and it was a nice change from the regular Thai milk tea. I like that there aren't a lot of menu items - that's usually a good sign because it means they're focused on making a handful of dishes and making them good. I wouldn't mind coming back to try the grilled or poached chicken.

If you want to gave good soul food without any fuss, just go here. It's perfectly done. The rice is magical, do flavourful so is the chicken

4.5/5 Zab Fried Chicken - a must order! The chicken is fried super crispy and their spice blend with the bright citrusty zing is so good! The sweet spicy tamarind sauce pairs perfectly. Sticky rice came prepackaged, and had some dry chunks in it. 3.5/5 Poached Chicken -- the chicken itself was quite dry and bland, but the sauce was great with it! Wished the ginger rice had a bit more flavor. I was hoping it would be more reminiscent of Hainanese style chicken being more moist and flavorful. 4/5 Thai Ice Tea -- very solid and authentic!

Got the Zab chicken sandwich and Zab basic for $12-$14 each. Very good deal! The fries were amazing, perfectly fried and seasoned. The best part was definitely the Zab seasoning, it was so unique and flavorful I couldn't get enough. The chicken was surprisingly disappointing though - a bit overcooked as it was way too crunchy and chewy. Didn't really get that chicken flavor or consistency, just a mouth of hard crunchy fried crust. Overall the fries and the meal price saved the day. Oh and did you see the super cute duck plate for the sauce? Definitely unique addition. However the seating was not the most comfortable because all the cushioning are peeled off the seats. Also no restroom was a surprise.

Beautiful in its simplicity. Three Roosters is on a busy street with plenty of other restaurants, but it's nice to walk into a smaller restaurant space such as Three Roosters. Walking in, the lighting is very bright and it feels like a very clean space. The menu isn't the largest so it makes it easy to decide what to order. We decided to try a variety of dishes from poached chicken plates to their fried chicken. All of their food was incredibly delicious - the rice was such a plus! NYC prices are definitely pricy so we were glad that the portions were very filling. The sauces that came with foods were very flavorful as well. FYI - you can get any drink for free with Yelp check-in!

Yum - I love Hainese style poached chicken and Three Roosters does it right! I was in the area looking for delicious and fresh food, and Three Roosters popped up as a highly rated place that satisfies those requirements! I went on a Sunday around 3pm and had no wait to get seated. The ambiance of the restaurant is casual dining and the server will seat you at a table. Note that there are limited tables, and the restaurant can seat probably 15-20 people maximum at a time. Service is fast, I got my drink and food about 10 minutes after I ordered, though I can see it taking a bit longer when it is busier. Now, onto the food - the poached chicken was absolutely delicious! For $16 you get a good amount of chicken that is light, a delicious ginger rice that pleasantly fragrant, and light soup that has good chicken flavor and pleasing umami from aromatics. The soy bean and ginger sauce is very salty on it's own, but when added to the chicken and rice, it's scrumptious. Interchanging with the soup and cucumber as palate cleansers, you get a complete entree that you can cycle through. You also get some chili and garlic additions, but I would note that it is pretty spicy, so use at your discretion. If I am in the area near Three Roosters, I would 100% revisit to try their fried or grilled chicken plates. I think that this restaurant does the complete dish very well for the price - you can get a refreshing drink and an entree in a cozy atmosphere for $20!

I came here on recommendation from a friend and was pleasantly surprised! The menu here is quite small - mainly just chicken and rice dishes. I opted for the fried chicken and fries combo and my friend and I also got the Thai tacos to share with fried chicken inside. The chicken was flavorful and delicious and the fries were seasoned with their special ZAB seasoning which was surprisingly tangy. The sauces were interesting to try with the chicken as well. I'm such a fan of Three Roosters and it has become my new go to any time I'm in Hell's Kitchen. The menu is short and simple, and you can't go wrong with any of the choices. I love whatever they put in the zabb seasonings- the best way I can describe it is like fancy Doritos ranch seasoning. The grilled chicken is so unbelievably juicy, the hainanese chicken super flavorful and homey, and the fried chicken is nice and light. And I love a good soup refill. This is not the best hainanese chicken in the city (for that you must go to Eim Khao Mun Kai) but it's an excellent choice for the neighborhood. read more

(4.5 stars) Can't go wrong with the fried chicken plate for a light meal. I just wish there was more sauce to go around or that it was already mixed in, because it really brings the flavor, and bites without it aren't the same. It's also not the most filling meal, so you might need more than one plate. But the hot soup is a really nice opener. read more

This place is a must try - I'd been wanting to ever since they opened up in my neighborhood and finally got takeout. I got the ZAB chicken salad bowl (with dark meat) and a side of ZAB fries for my roommate. The ZAB flavor is incredible - not spicy at all, which I was a bit concerned about as someone who can't really handle spicy food. The chicken was probably one of the best I've had and it reheated pretty well. The salad itself was fresh and light, and the sesame dressing paired well. Service was incredibly fast - out of the 30 minute window I chose for pickup, the food was ready in the first 5 minutes. I'll definitely be coming back here to try the other combos! read more

saw this place on Uber eats and it had such good reviews so I gave it a try! their zab seasoning is so good and dipping anything with their tamarind sauce and/or sweet chili sauces make it so much better! every bite was so flavorful! I was hesitant about the ginger rice at first since I'm not a huge fan of ginger, but it's pretty subtle and compliments the chicken so well! the rice was also well cooked and had a good texture. the zab fries and chicken are obvious musts to order! the zab seasoning is exactly like how it's described- spicy, citrusy, salty, and a little sweet! my spice tolerance is quite low but I still appreciated the nice kick this seasoning has! the side salad was in a dressing similar to fish sauce. it was pretty refreshing, but I don't think i would order it if it didn't come with the zab fried chicken plate. definitely a good spot for a different twist on fried chicken! read more

Just coming from an amazing lunch I had here and I thoroughly regret not having discovered this place earlier. Food was insane. This is a tiny place with 4-5 tables inside and couple of tables for outdoor dining. Seems like a lot of people do takeouts or delivery. As a first timer here, I simply ordered chicken taco because it was the menu of the day. 3 mouth watering taco came quite promptly, beautifully presented. I chose fried - you can choose grilled option too- and at first bite was blown away how airy, crunchy and savory fried chicken can be. Handful of cilantro and fish sauce drizzle added the gentle and nice Thai flavor as well. I am generally not a fan of fusion, but this place knows how to bring Asia and the western continent together and make the food better. Service was quick, attentive, and the Thai iced coffee was also very satisfying. I can only think of good things about this place cause they deliver! What a gem of HK. Come and try fried chicken here. Satisfaction guaranteed 100%. Ps. As a Korean, I thought Korean fried chicken is a thing so I was surprised to meet the best chicken of my life in this small Thai restaurant. Super cozy little Thai fried chicken spot. The ambiance was very relaxed and I liked the music playing. I ordered the ZAB fried chicken and it was delicious! The chicken was perfectly crisped and the zab seasoning was salty, sweet and just a hint of spicy. The sauce it came with was nice and zesty. We also got zab seasoned fries and they were also pretty good. My boyfriend got the regular fried chicken plate and he rated it 5/5. This place does only a few dishes, but they do them better than ANYONE else. This is not your Thai curry rice and Pad Thai noodle place. I have to admit I was doubtful when I saw how limited the menu was. But, I was won over with my first bite! It's basically variations of chicken (fried one of 2 ways, or poached), rice (sticky or ginger rice), rounded out with a corn, kale, lettuce salad or cucumber slices, and a cup of the most intensely flavored chicken broth you'll ever taste. This all is served with sweet chili sauce and/or a chili/tamarind/fish sauce for dipping. Everything was prepared to perfection using the freshest ingredients. Full of intense flavors, I would go back often if I lived within 50 miles of this place. As a matter of fact at the table next to ours, the people had just eaten here the day before and couldn't resist coming back. I should also mention how helpful, polite, and professional the service was. This is a tiny, hole in the wall place. The menu is small. But the lesson learned is you really don't need to be the biggest place, or offer unlimited menu items. Just make what you offer the best there is, to the number of patrons you choose. 3 Roosters succeeds in this without question! read more

I got the grilled chicken set which came in this bento box like style which I thought was interesting! The chicken was tender and juicy and the soup was also pretty good. When you check-in at the place through Yelp they give you a free drink so we all got Thai iced tea which was pretty average. read more

It's ok. 3.5 stars. Got the the poached chicken plate which is supposed to be hainan chicken. Quite lacking bc the rice and chicken flavor are really light. Not much of the typical hainan flavor. If you pour the soup and sauce over everything then it's a lot better. Sad, I saw superb reviews and was really craving authentic hainan chicken. read more

My meal here was so good, I've been daydreaming about going back ever since! That was 3 weeks ago so I may have a problem xD A friend of mine actually recommended we go here for a post workout lunch because she knows how much I LOVE fried chicken. I have a reputation amongst my group of friends. This is a small, hole in the wall spot, but it is also clean, bright, modern, and stylish. There are several small tables inside where you can dine in comfort, and even outdoor dining. Three Roosters is famous for their chicken platters, and the variety here will accommodate everyone, except vegetarians or vegans. No vegan meat alternatives yet :X You can customize your chicken platter by choosing between dark or white meat, the cooking method, and the base (salad, taco style, or white rice). The chicken in the platters are all cooked with different seasonings. I chose the delicious looking fried chicken tacos with the Zab seasonings , and we ordered the Zab fries to share. Immediately upon digging into the food, our gazes met in amazement. The Zab seasoning is MAGICAL. That spice rub with its tangy, sour, yet savory flavor just hits you with a refreshing, yet salivating zing. I was worried the tacos wouldn't sate my ravenous appetite, but I was wrong. The order came with three big tacos heaped with lettuce, juicy bits of crispy fried Zab chicken, corn and onions. The chicken was so flavorful yet moist. I can definitely see why Three Roosters won all the accolades that are proudly displayed on their walls. I am now a lifelong fan and hope they will eventually be able to expand and open additional locations. Don't forget to check in through Yelp for a free drink! This was our first time visiting here. We both got Zab Fried Chicken. It was delicious. Based on the reviews, we also split a side of Zab seasoned Fries - which were also great!! Great lunch spot with a few indoor and outdoor seating. Chicken is moist and flavorful whether it be the fried chicken or grilled chicken. Definitely would come back if I were in the area again. The ZAB seasoning is a must try if you are indecisive about what to choose! They also have an added taco option and it's a larger portion than the picture on the menu appears! Three Roosters has an unusually small menu. By that I mean you essentially can order one dish, in three variations. You can get the fried chicken, the poached chicken or the grilled chicken. They come with a small broth soup, rice, and maybe a corn salad. Want something else? You can order sides, which are... uhhh... 'extra portion fried/grilled/poached chicken' or extra soup, extra rice, extra corn salad. It's basically just that. They do have fries as well. So with such a tiny menu ('chicken over rice' is basically the only thing) the chicken over rice better be pretty damn tasty. The good news is that the chicken over rice is indeed pretty damn tasty. I've tried the grilled and fried chicken, and both were delectable. The sides are nothing special, but the chicken was very much on point. Only come here if you specifically want that one thing. But if you're craving chicken over rice, this is a quality option. read more

Terrific lunch experience!! We initially ordered take-out but when we went to pick the food up, we saw that they had nice outdoor seating with open tables. The staff was amazingly accommodating when we asked if we could impose on them and eat our food (that they had already packed) on site. They not only re-plated our food, but gave us extra sauce to try that we hadn't ordered, etc. The waitress may have been the sweetest person on 9th Ave. And wow, the dishes were SO good! We tried the poached dark meat chicken and the ZAB fried dark meat chicken and both were absolutely delicious. The corn salad was surprisingly spicy in a good way - just enough heat to keep things exciting. So glad to have this place in our neighborhood! read more

This is our favorite spot. Before my husband and I arrived. Today, we were rushing all the way from UES because they close at 4pm. It's 3:30.. went in three server girls sitting, texting - and told us they were already closed. I have been a loyal customer. Not turning into Karen but you said you close 4.... I first ordered the crispy spring rolls, which were very good. For my main I had the Massaman Curry. Now folks, this is my favorite curry of all time -- actually one of my favorite foods of all time -- and while it's common in LA where I used to live, it's not as common where I live now, in the Bay Area. And the restaurants that do carry it usually do not make it right and it's not very good. I am used to Massaman in the traditional preparation where it's more like a beef stew made with chunks of beef and needs to cook overnight. When done right it is the most aromatic curry ever -- it's almost like an aphrodisiac! -- and the beef comes out oh so tender. Usually if places have this curry but then offer a choice of protein, then it generally is not cooked properly, and that is actually how they prepare it at SaiTong. But because of such great reviews I decided to take a chance and try it. Well, let me tell you, it was definitely not the norm...it was absolutely delicious! I had it with chicken (they serve breast as default), and the chicken soaked up the curry really nicely. I also asked for there to be no onions, which I think alters the flavor of a curry too much. It does include the traditional potatoes and peanuts, and the potatoes were fine and cut into nice little chunks, the peanuts actually were thrown in raw.. what I think is the more traditional way which is to actually burn the peanuts a little bit, but that's okay, it didn't take down the dish any. Their brown rice is of the very dark kind, which I like, and goes so well with the curry. Service was wonderful from the bartender but was also provided by the rest of the staff and everyone was so nice. I left there feeling so satisfied, and cannot wait to go back and try some other dishes.

I don't know if I'll be back again - I think the concept of an asian twist on the classic diner does sound intriguing but difficult to execute. I also wasn't a big fan of the wait time. If you typically like heavier, diner food then this spot might be the place for you!

The mapo tofu, green beans, twice cooked pork, and spicy (lazi) chicken were very flavorful. I thought the mala levels were just right, but it may be on a bit on the lighter side compared to authentic. The lamb spine came in a delicious broth, but it was a bit hard eating the lamb from the bone for not a lot of meat. The house steamed fish was also amazing. They don't take online reservations for groups over 5, so we called to make one for our group of 6. It was pretty busy Friday night, so would recommend. The service was great; they drew the cutest card when they found out it was my brother's birthday and let us bring a cake. And they also offered hair ties to the people with long hair. You order through an iPad which has a beautiful menu.

Maybe I should have gone with the cumin noodles instead. I did enjoy the lychee lemonade, which was refreshing!

Three roosters is a solid little fusion restaurant. Their dishes revolve around their thai chicken served up in a few different ways including poached, fried, and grilled. We of course opted for the fried chicken as well as a few Zab fries for the table. Dubious nomeclature aside, they were fairly normal fries with an absolutely delicious seasoning and sauce, Id highly recommend ordering these to share! My platter of soup, fried dark meat, and sticky rice was delicious. If i had to nitpick the dark meat seemed almost more fried particulare than tender juicy meat, but it was yummy none the less. The soup was a welcome accompaniment in the cold weather, especially with my sticky rice. This appears to be a local family business and their service despite the many people was excellent. I was in town for work for a week, and I am so glad they opened their door when I was there because the food is soooo good. The grilled chicken and their tamarind sauce taste exactly like food from Thailand. It was so good that I ordered one to go for my dinner at my hotel. Their poached chicken and ginger rice (khao mun gai) were one of the best I've had. I ended up going there a few times while I was in town. I'll definitely be back. read more

Delivery was super-fast and they sent some extra sides, which was really nice. It was my first time having this kind of chicken and rice. I ordered the grilled chicken plate. It was super-moist and tasty. The tamarind sauce was key. I'm not a huge fan of the sticky rice and the chicken soup was just a light broth. The corn salad was simple but a good addition.
