I love a good comfort food and this definitely fulfilled that for me. I got the Poached Chicken Plate with dark meat and the garlic sauce poured on top of that and the rice paired extremely well. The sauce was nice and slightly spiced which gave a great kick, and the cucumbers were a refreshing way to cut the umami flavors. The soup was a great touch as well to round out the meal. The flavor here is REAL. The sweet chili sauce is not the gloopy jarred stuff; it's thin and pungent. The salad dressing is spicy, acidic, and (correct me if I'm wrong) akin to how they dress green papaya salad. These flavors are authentic and delicious. I've been to Chiang Mai and have had the thai bbq chicken at SP chicken, and this is about similar as I've had to the chicken I ate in thailand. They use THIGHS. THANK THE LORD THEY USE THIGHS. No dry chicken breast here. The skin is sweet and lacquered. The meat is moist and fatty. The lemongrass marinade is herbaceous and fragrant. The sides that come with it are perfect. A friend introduced this to me as the best fried chicken after Wenwen (he hasn't had Pecking House yet) and although it's not THE best, it's certainly one of the most accessible tasty fried chickens out there. Most good fried chicken joints have difficult reservations or long lines - not Three Roosters. I came here on NYE with a friend at 5pm when they opened, and we loitered for 2 hours because only one other table was occupied while we were there. I do hope they get more recognition because I wouldn't want them to close down! There's a free drink with Yelp check in, so I got a hot chrysanthemum tea (unsweetened, not on purpose) and my friend got a Thai tea. We split the Zabb fried chicken and the plain fried chicken because they come with slightly different rice. My friend liked the plain better and I liked the Zabb marginally better, but they are both excellent and I really enjoyed being able to eat both at the same time. I do prefer the ginger rice to the sticky rice, and it was very nice to have a hot broth. I was so happy to see Zab Chicken on the menu because I've had it before and it was so delicious. We got lucky and were seated in this small restaurant. I ordered the Zab Chicken which came with a soup, salad and sticky rice. You can order the ginger rice if you want as well. Let me start with the soup. It was a clear broth and you're not expecting a lot of flavor but it was packed with flavor. It almost reminded me of a wonton soup broth but not yellow. You could taste how fresh the green beans were. The dressing was spicy and vinegary and yummy. OK, let's talk about the chicken. OMG. So so so good. The mixture of the acidity from the lime, the heat from the chili and the slight sweetness from sugar I assume, made you want to go back for more. I think you could've put the Zab seasoning on a piece of leather I would've been very happy. It was as delicious as the first time I had Zab Chicken and I love that you can order thigh or breast. The chicken was super crispy and juicy and I made yummy noises all throughout my meal. Oh, let me not forget about the tamarind sauce. While the chicken did not need the sauce AT all, it was nice to have options. Again the sweetness from the tamarind and the spiciness was oh so good. The set came with a corn salad dressed in a little fish sauce, sticky rice, and a clear chicken soup to wash everything down. The staff here were courteous and covid safety protocols were enforced. I would still say skip the sticky rice and go for the ginger rice but other than that, everything was delicious, including the soup. Where was Three Roosters pre-COVID? I definitely could have had some Hainanese chicken before catching a Broadway show, instead of settling for the tourist traps! The Zab seasoning, turns out, adds a little kick to the chicken. And while I was having trouble deciding whether to get it or not, I was offered to have it served on the side so I could taste it. They are extremely accommodating and have great customer service! Their outdoor dining set-up was pretty cute, and in addition to the door, there is also a window you can open. Three Roosters put forth a strong effort towards the big three: ambience, service, and food. The space is small, but it's colorfully decorated and nicely lit. I'd call it a cozy cafe-esque sorta space to sit and grab a quick bite. I ordered the grilled chicken plate, zab seasoned fries, and Thai iced tea (that I got for free with a Yelp check-in). The grilled chicken came in a satisfying portion and each slice was incredibly juicy. My fork absolutely bathed in juice just piercing the meat. However, this moistness of the meat was also accompanied by a good amount of grease. For grilled chicken, the grease level definitely caught my attention but not so much to where it was off putting. The chicken could have used a bit more pizzazz: I felt that the taste was lacking especially in comparison to the amazing texture that you get as you chew. I tried the sauce to resolve that issue, but I also wasn't a big fan of the sauce. It could just be that my palate isn't right for the sauce, but I felt that the scent and aftertaste was a bit too strong for me to engage with it. The side salad was pretty simple and presented very nicely, which made it attractive to eat. It seemed to be lightly drizzled in a similar dressing, which threw it off for me. That could also be on behalf of trying it immediately after the sauce. The rice was decent and it helped with the chicken, but the packaging clumped it together with a lot of humidity. I didn't have too much against the soup: it initially didn't taste bad by any means, but the aftertaste is what got me. It gave savory, but also notably salty. I wouldn't mind finishing the soup if it was given in a smaller portion. The zab seasoned fries were the highlight of the meal by a long shot. The zab seasoning was incredibly sharp but not overpowering. It was the perfect mix of sweet, salty, and slightly spicy with a pinch of lemon. The fries were crisp and a bit thick, so there was a lot of substance between the generous seasoning and the soft potato content of the fries. The scallions were beautiful in terms of presentation, but they also gave the fries a considerable but subtle greenery to their taste. The dipping sauce was also delightful, it added a lot to the sweetness and spiciness of the seasoning. I'm a huge fan of the Thai iced tea as well. It had the perfect level of sweetness to match the bitterness of the tea and it was also milky in its taste and texture. It didn't deviate far from what you'd expect from the average iced tea, but it also brought its own sophisticated flavor. I'd probably return for this beverage on its own. Good stuff I ordered through their website and it was set up nicely with google pay options. I came late to pick up my order and it was ready for me. The fried chicken was great and my son enjoyed it. The chicken wasn't spicy at all, but the seasoning on the side was, so be careful. You might get a seed or something. Found this place on yelp as I was looking up Hainanese chicken rice. Their menu is small but I find all the options interesting. At one point I was itching to try all the chicken options. I ended up getting the poached chicken platter with an extra of fried chicken plus a side of zab fries. Yelp check in gets a free drink so I got thai tea with lime juice. Hainanese chicken rice was the reason I came so I felt obligated to get the poached chicken as my main. It's actually the most disappointing of all the things I ordered. I got dark meat but the meat was a bit rougher than I'd like. I know poached has more subtle flavor but I expected more herbs. The skin could be more "jelly" as well. I do want to praise that it tastes fresh as sometimes poached/steamed chicken has that reheated taste. The ginger rice is weaker than expected. I thought the tradition was to use chicken oil in the rice. I guess that's why I found this to be slightly off. The rice got a bit hard by the end of the meal. I guess it could be avoided if I ate faster. I needed to dip into the sauce to add moisture while eating the chicken. Otherwise I'd prefer to not dip it. I'm not the biggest fan of cucumber but I like how their's looks very neat and tastes very clean as well. I like the accompanying soup. At other places this soup is often very oily and too salty/msg. Here it's more clear with plenty of white pepper (!!) and subtle chicken sweetness. It's quite comforting. Appreciate how their cilantro is crisp and green. Some ppl might view it as garnish only but I actually ate it with the chicken and it's definitely worthwhile. I was debating which chicken to get for the side option. Chose fried chicken because I was already getting zab fries which lets me try the seasoning, grilled chicken can't choose dark or white meat so it has a lower priority out of conservativeness. Coincidentally their oven broke so grilled chicken isn't available. Fried chicken side it is. It came with garlic flakes which gave great flavor and crunch at the same time. The chicken itself was crunchy and tender but not hot. It was literally room temperature. If I had to prioritize I'd rather it be like this with the right texture but wrong temperature. Anyways I like it more than the poached version. I can imagine it'll taste amazing with the zab seasoning. Zab fries. This was my favorite item. It came out hot and stayed crunchy the whole time. There's also savory umami that doesn't dry out the mouth. They're also very generous with seasoning so every fry has plenty of flavor. Also nice how the fries didn't feel oily at all. It came with a sauce that's kinda like duck sauce. I can pass on it. The fries were amazing as is. Thai tea with lime juice. I didn't go for my usual thai tea (with milk) since they have a different variation here. I figured the lime would be a refreshing choice. It came out better than expected. It's not too sweet and the lime is refreshing enough and the Thai tea is prominent enough. Now I'm curious what their thai tea with milk will be like!! The employees were nice too checking in on me multiple times. I noticed how they didn't rush people to leave when they're finished eating either. Very cute the kitchen used a chicken squeak to signal that food is ready to be served instead of a traditional bell. Also cute they give you candy upon getting the check. Another cute is how their wall has polaroid pics of their employees and friends. Why so sweet they drew a heart on my receipt. Do they do this for everyone?? Go here. The food is amazing. I have eaten here three times in the last week. The menu is simple, and nearly everything is exceptional. The primary dishes are chicken and rice, served with salad/veg and some soup. The different kinds of chicken are grilled, fried, poached, and ZAB fried. You have the choice of white meat or dark meat. I have tried all but the grilled. Both version of fried are crispy and very flavorful, and I would recommend the dark meat option. The poached chicken is not bland, but it has a much weaker flavor profile than the other two options that I have tried. Each comes with its own sauce, the tamarind sauce served with the ZAB was a completely new flavor for me, and I highly recommend it. The ZAB flavouring itself is the seasoned crushed toasted rice that is characteristic of larb, and was what got me to try the other dishes here. The soup is a clear chicken broth with scallions and is a great addition to the meal. The corn salad has a really nice dressing, and the cucumbers are a nice crunch side. The rice, either the ginger rice or the sticky rice are also great, in particular the ginger rice has a great umami component. The only dish that I didn't think was amazing was the ZAB fries, but that could have been because I got takeout and they were not crisp by the time I tried them.
