Came back for round 2! This time tried the fried chicken drumsticks -- thumbs down. They're big and tempting but lack flavor and taste like chicken that's about to go bad so they coat it with batter and fry it up. Fried fish -- I think this was $10/lb but honestly I have no idea because there are no prices posted. Again these taste like frozen chemically treated fish that they coated in batter and seasoning. I would not recommend. Tried the fried shrimp dumplings, which were also way too deep fried and lacked flavor. Also tried the fried pumpkin balls -- you would like this if you like a sweet dessert type of heavy fried mochi. Along with a bunch of other typical dim sum orders, somehow I spent $50! 3.5 stars This dim sum takeout place is on our way to visit grandma, we first noticed it when we saw a line outside and decided to give it a try. This is a cash only place which offers a variety of dim sum and cooked dishes made fresh daily. Based on what we've tasted so far, I'd agree with the 3.5 rating; some of the items were pretty descent, a few others we didn't like it too much. Prices of the food appeared to be a little cheaper, service can be slow at times especially if only one lady taking order/packing food, hence the line. It obviously has quite a few loyal customers. Our repeat orders so far were Har-gow, siu-mai, daikon cake, chive dumplings, large and smaller baos. The congee was OK, Chinese tamale didn't have much taste nor fillings. Sticky rice balls, chow fun, fried dumplings were good/average as well. Stopped by Three Stars yesterday since my husband wanted siu mai and a friend recommended me to try their fried glutinous meat dumpling saying it is the best. Arrived around 1130am and there is already a few people waiting in line outside the store. The Chinese ladies working there are very kind, possibly because I spoke Cantonese to them. The prices are indeed slightly cheaper than Mong Kok Dim Sum which is literally a block up. I thought the siu mai here is pretty good. Tasted similar to the dimsum restaurants. However, if I am to compare the quality of dimsum between Three Stars and Mong Kok Dim Sum, I still think Mong Kok Dim Sum is the winner. Mong Kok Dim Sum is tastier and less greasy. I felt full eating a few pieces of dim sum from Three Stars mainly because it is so oily. The fried glutinous meat dumpling is standard but Mong Kok makes them so much better and crispier. I finished two in a row for Mong Kok and still wanted more, whereas for Three Stars, I spend a good amount of time finishing one because there is so much glutinous dough. Their fried pumpkin ball is not that great either. Shrimp dumplings are lacking a bit of flavor. Overall, I would prefer Mong Kok Dim Sum over Three Stars, but Three Stars taste better than some other dimsum stores. Note: cash only read more

Had the WORST experience here at 9am on a Friday TLDR: speak canto if you want better service I usually go to Mongkok across the street but this place is newish so I decided to try it out. My gosh I did not know what I was getting into. To preface, I speak Cantonese and Mandarin both fluently, but my native dialect is Mandarin so by default I asked in Mandarin for the shrimp rolls and the lady said they didnt have any, only the ones with nothing in it. I thought that was weird since I could see a plate of rolls with a bright red filling (not shrimp but it was bright red). I then asked her then what's that one and she was like "oh yeah we have the cha siu rolls too" so I'm like okay whatever I guess they ran out. Since it was 2 customers inside at a time, the next customer came in, ordered after me, and I saw and heard the other lady go to the kitchen, yell out in Canto that theres a few left on a new tray and to bring out the last three plates of freshly steamed shrimp rolls for the other lady. But whatever by now my lady already packed my cha siu rolls so I just went with it. (edit after I ate it at home: super hard and obvious it's been sitting there for awhile) Next I ordered my jook in the small soup container and the lady tells me they dont sell it in small. like WHAT? You have the price and the boxes but you don't serve it in small...So now I'm so fed up with her since I could tell she was discriminating against me and asked her in CANTONESE why they have the prices and the boxes if they don't sell it in small? Then she looked at me as if she saw a ghost, and without saying anything proceeded to pack the small box of jook. This whole ordeal ended with her throwing my change on the counter and leaving my items on the counter without putting it in a bag until I asked. We spotted this place with a line the first time around, so I gotta go back and see what's up...turns out to be pretty legit dim sum! The shrimp dumplings were yum, pan fried chive dumplings were yum, even the pork dumplings aka sui mai were yum! Pictured in my review are the two mentioned plus the peanut dumpling and taro dumpling :) I also checked out their savory fried mochi - they are nice and puffy! There was a long and slow moving line to this place late Saturday morning, which made me think it was a good candidate for great dim sum. We got a steamed pork bun (my standard metric for dim sum comparison) and a sesame ball (because they were out of scallion pancakes). The pork bun was good, amply sized with light and fluffy pastry, and generally on par with the average dim sum specimen. The sesame bun was new to me. It had a crispy outside and a chewy inside, and a surprise (at least to me) of red bean paste in the middle. All in all, what I ate was fine, but not outstanding. Either I did not get the right items or the long line was attributable to really slow snd inefficient workers at the restaurant (the latter which at least appeared to be true). read more

The pieces are so big that I have to cut them into 3-4 regular size pieces. It's the best to be added to any spicy ramen (especially the Chinese spicy instant ramens). OMG it's a bomb. Buy more if you are not from this area. Beef tendons are good for freezing and microwave whenever. Food has ended here and politic starts. It was a long line so while waiting, I was approached by this Chinese girl asking what's so good here with the line. Turned out she helps the guy next to her and who's running for SF mayor. I don't remember how we got to Chino Yang, the SF rapper who criticize London Breed in a rap song and was threatened to take down the song. I live here for over 20 years, this is the first time I've heard about someone is asked to take down a rap song, who is also a BLM supporter. This nearby dim sum place has become our go to for quality and good value. the only downside is the grumpy and condescending staff and their allowance of people to cut in front of others. There is frequently a line outside this place even in the mid-afternoon. Most people are respectful of the queue, but at times (usually lols) cut in front pretending that they are just looking but instead they were sent by their family and order ahead of everyone else. They have been chastised by those in line however they seem immune and the restaurant staff allows this type of behavior. Most of the time the staff is courteous but if you get an older woman with short hair, be on your toes. She has no patience and if you don't know exactly what you want she rushes you and is condescending and tosses your change on the metal counter. That said, the dim sum is really good. read more
