Ok..their service is no nonsense. Don't expect the warm fuzzies from the ladies here. But the fried chicken alone is worth 5 stars! Always crispy, flavorful and juicy! When planning for my party I went into the shop and the ladies kindly offered to let me sample anything I wanted and they had me try their favorites. I was pleasantly surprised how un-greasy the fried food were. Now the challenging part was ordering. They speak Cantonese and toisan. My Cantonese is not great so I was so happy that they have an English phone line. Sherlyn answered the phone,I placed my order and felt confident she got my order right. She was very easy to work with over the phone. I ordered three items, vegi spring rolls, shrimp puffs,and sweet sesame balls for a CNY event for 215 guests. They were packed in aluminum trays and covered with foil. The food was great and all the guests raved about how tasty and not greasy the fried foods were. Disappointment! Bought buns here twice. First visit there was very little filling in the cha siu baos (see pic). Decided to give them another try today and get breakfast on the run. Got the cha siu baos along with nai wong baos (3 for $3). One bite into one of each bun and they were dry and not even warm inside. The buns were left overs from previous day(s). Not sure if steaming them longer would have helped. Lesson learned, go too early and end up with old stuff. Oh how I miss the bakery at cafe bakery. Tried this place for the first time when my buddy picked up dim sum for us for a GGP picnic and I was impressed! I couldn't believe it when he said he was in line that wrapped around the corner of the street and he waited almost half an hour on a Sunday morning even with 3 ladies working to take orders! Fortunately, the dim sum was very very good! Sometimes these takeout dim sum places are hit or miss but this was definitely a hit. My gauge for a good takeout dim sum place are my go to items: har gow, siu mai and the shrimp rice noodle roll (Cheung fun). Most places can't get the rice noodle roll right because the skin is often too thick and the shrimps are too small. But theirs is a thinner skin and the shrimps are quite big! Bingo! The har gow had good shrimp flavor and the skin is slightly too thick but still acceptable. The siu mai was also tasty. The highlight of my meal was actually their fried goodies: meat dumpling, pumpkin ball and sesame ball. All 3 were sooooo yummy and crispy! This is my new go to place for dim sum. There steamed buns are the best. They charge 3 bao for $2.50. I usually pick up some plain and wheat one. Love putting one in a steamer and a cup of coffee/tea for breakfast on the go. This time I also bought half pound of eggplant in a soy/oyster sauce, turnip cakes ( the flavor was very good and about 60% larger than other places ). vegetables pork bun( very tasty without the heavy oil tasting), steamed rice pasta and a few other items. The ladies usually weighs the items and then put another scoop into the container before closing it. This is catty corner from Mongkok Dim Sum. I feel that their goods are better than Mongkok. I use to go get my dim sum from Mongkok until I realized that they were ripping me off by overcharging. I usually order the exact same item and she would pretend to counting up and everyt timeshe would give a higher price. If you buy items that are weighted she would rip you off. I do not think she rips off the older Chinese that patronize her. I feel that she rips off mostly the younger crowd that are more carefree and the ABC. I did question her she hurried and move to the next customer and ignores you. I feel that this new place Three Stars restaurant across the street will take many of her customers. read more

This dim sum spot is severely underrated and deserves more attention. This is my family's new dim sum spot since the pandemic required closure of dim sum restaurants/tea houses! The food tastes pretty much like what you get at Hong Kong Lounge in Richmond. No frills take out dim sum and deli. There's always a line no matter what time of day. I usually try to go early in the morning before 9am and the wait is still 15-20 min long. My husband's and son's favorites are sui mai, ha gow, steamed BBQ pork buns, steamed pork and veggie buns, chow fun and wrapped sticky rice. Firstly I agree with Lilian Z. who said if one speaks Cantonese that one will be served in a better manner. I don't speak any Chinese, the woman on duty was okay in taking my order. But she got so angry just because she said the total incorrectly (i.e. 'Eight $ instead of $18). I innocently gave her $8 (oh, yeah, they only accept cash...), but she slammed the register receipt on the glass counter to basically tell me that I'm cheating her out of $10 which I was not trying to do. Gee, no understanding on her part whatsoever! Apparently other reviewers have noted rudeness from the women who take orders here. That attitude doesn't cut it with me nowhere from anyone. No need to be racist or biased in any way to people who are trying to help your business!! They needn't worry as I'm not patronizing them anymore. And the dim sum was just okay. I did not care for the steamed pork bun as it was so tiny, the pork tasted dry, and worse the sauce was so sweet it was just too much to take. The shrimp dumpling and siu mai were okay. Food here is alright but I'm very disappointed in their professionalism. I ordered 2 servings of siu mai and 1 serving of har gao. Unbeknownst to me, the lady had packed 3 servings of siu mai and 2 servings of har gao, which ended up costing me an additional $6.40! Was it my fault for not double-checking while paying? Perhaps, but I felt very rushed and also did not expect daylight robbery like this. They also charge an extra $0.20 for soy sauce. Not a pleasant review for me to write. Asked for 2 pounds of chow mein in the late afternoon. The lady proceeded to pack around 2-1/2 pounds into a container (over-packing often has been the case in this establishment over the years). She said she would provide a discount to the order since it was late in the day. When my family proceeded to try it out a couple of hours later at home: there was a sour smell emanating from the takeout box. The same taste - of spoiled cooked food - came from the first bite. 2+ pounds of food in the trash. Should I give 3 stars to Three Stars Restaurant? I don't think so. I used to come here for lunch when I went to Lincoln High and ordered the fried rice to go. If memory serves me right, it was way way better back then and everything seemed fresh. Even their pork BBQ was tasty. Came here a few weeks ago with my kids after playing basketball at Sunset Rec and expected it to be the same. But just by looking at their food, everything looked stale and old. (10 or 20 years ago). Bill prospered for a while, then retired. Go here instead of the other dim sum place on Noriega. It's a lot fresher. They also have more variety. We come here to buy trays of food, and most of the time, it's been the large fried chicken drumsticks. We consider them "hormone injected" drumsticks because of the size. They are at least twice the size of the KFC chicken legs! Prices are very reasonable. You can either order off their menu, dishes like noodles or fried rice, and they will make it fresh. You can also order from the "deli" in the front of the store. They have roast duck, BBQ pork along with prepared food that they sell by the pound, which includes the above mentioned drumsticks, chow mein, veggie dishes, etc. If you order larger quantities like 5+ lbs. or more, you should order ahead of time. All the food I've order from the deli has been pretty good. The service is adequate. The lady who dresses up really nice is the owner (I think), and she will try to upsell you, but it's not bad compared to other places. Just tell her that's all you want or as I do, "I don't have enough money." Cleanliness? I don't think it's all that clean - they used to have a fly strip that attracted and killed flies (they got stuck on the strip), but I don't remember seeing it recently. Since the shelter in place started, we've been getting dim sum from Three Star. There is usually a long line, but it's worth it! Their dumpling skins are so thin and good. Their chive dumpling is a must order. We usually get the chive dumplings, shrimp dumplings, shrimp rice roll, beef rice roll, and turnip cake. Oh Three Star Restaurant, you are too humble. I think this place is a little more than 3 stars, i wouldnt give them 4 stars...but i cant give them 3.5 so 3 it is! Cause' thats what youre called! If you like really asian foods, this is the place to go! It's as china as it gets here with pigs blood, intestines, duck hearts and gizzards. DELICIOUS! and its not just because they have these things here, its because they actually make them good.
