I was worried at first when it seemed like a long line and only two people working the counters. Daniel helped us get situated with all the paperwork for the car and got us something even better than we expected. He was friendly and gave my toddler a temporary tattoo and included a coupon for a free gift when buying an aquarium admission. Price was pretty fair too. I'd definitely go with Thrifty again based on my experience with them this trip.

The 8:01 photo still at the rental when we were given the car at 8:03.

I wish I could leave 0 stars! That bad! First of all I get some rentals get a bad reputation, this place has earned them all. Not one positive thing I can say about this place. From the moment we entered the building the problems started. We are in line for an hour with only 6 people in front of us and we pre-checked in! Customer service was horrendous on all counts. From the guy checking us out to the girl we returned the car to and especially the girl that was playing angry birds instead of showing us what cars to choose from. Oh yeah..... the car. It smelled like low quality weed. The whole rental with maybe like the last 2 hours did that nasty smell finally go away. Now the drop off. We had insurance so we did something we were covered. This did not stop me from inspecting the car before leaving. I saw the front left bumper clearly hit something, it wasn't going to stop the rental but I still took a picture of it. When we dropped the car off, the lady notes the bumper and asks what we hit. I go nothing I took a picture of it before we left and I said nice try. She goes how do I know you didn't take that picture after we hit something. I fire right with saying that's the great thing about iPhones the picture documented the location which was still at the rental site and most importantly the time which was 2 minutes before we checked out of the rental. I intentionally put tears in her face and I could have crossed a line. Like I said we had full coverage, but when you attack my wife with a statement about hitting something, I do what I think is right and if she apologized I would have too. Like I said 0 stars.

Arrived and provided my ID- they asked if I had blue chip and when I said yes they immediately provided me with my rental info and sent me off to select my vehicle. 2 staff members were returning cars and stopped to make sure we got the best available and made good conversation. Checking out was simple and returning was even easier. Every staff interaction was pleasant, sorry to see others haven't had this experience, but I will be back! Effortless experience, took no longer than 15 minutes if you don't count our chatting with everyone.

    Pre check in is worthless...

Stay away from this place. We made the reservation through Expedia, they have been sending me emails and text two days prior to check in and skip the line. We did and got a message that the car info will be sent hours before the rental. We arrived to the airport, checked the link that they sent when we checked in and the car was not available. We decided to hang around in the airport and have some coffee, in the mean time we kept refreshing the page ( every 15 min). After 2 refreshes we decided to go to the counter. Found a line of 20 groups of people and only one person at the counter. Waited about 50 min in line and finally it was our turn. After that we waited another 40 minutes in the pick up area to get a car. Way to start a vacation!!!!! Thank you thrifty. NOT!!!

Empty lot, PROMISE CARS --- what a joke! Sue this company

WORST! WORST!!! Hands down absolute WORST car rental you could possibly reserve with. YOU WILL WAIT FOR 2-3 hours BEFORE you even think about getting into your car lol! They have nobody working here to help. YOU WILL WAIT once you get off the tram and in line to see a clerk. (Ohhh, you have an email that promised you a car when you arrive "skip the line"... lmao!) join the club, we all do. WAIT FOR A CLERK because there are no cars available. Your total wait time will be 2 1/2 hours for sure!!

You get your pick of companies (Enterprise!) and vast auto selection that were quite reasonable. I nervously booked two weeks prior to leaving for Maui (OGG Kahului). But it turned out to be easy peasy once I landed. 1. Take a few free magazines and maps from the airport kiosks - they're helpful and has discounts too. 2. Take the tram across the street from baggage claim to the centralized rental car hub. 3. Shocked as there was no line as I approached the Enterprise customer service desk! Very personable individual who went through my contract and options. I declined additional insurance coverage, because my policy back home had me covered. I did opt for the prepaid gas (back on 8/26/25 it was $4/gallon). The new compact I had was so economical, I only spent an additional $30 before returning it on 9/2/25 slightly above E. Just make the best decision for your holiday needs. Note: Heed the warnings about driving in appropriate areas while on the island. I did not take my new compact off roading on unpaved, rugged routes! 4. I went to the second floor where I was greeted by another Enterprise person who pointed out the cars I was able to select from. Loaded the luggage into the trunk, took a 360 degree photo of the vehicle & license plate just in case, and familiarized myself with the car features. 5. Drove to the checkout gate where another airport person (who had just returned from my home state visiting family) finished off the car rental process and off on my merry way. 6. Returning to the airport, give yourself ample time to deal with OGG logistics. I followed the signage for car rental return. I drove to the appointed drop off area, got the vehicle checked back in without any issues, rode the tram back to the terminal, cleared the TSA and US agricultural checkpoints, and received my Enterprise receipt by email by the time I was at my departure gate/waiting area. Super customer service across the board from the OGG/Kahului Enterprise staff on 8/26/25 and 9/2/25. Sometimes one has to break from the usual and get pleasantly surprised. Aloha and mahalo!

Upon arrival at Kahului and retrieving our baggage, we rode the tram to the rental garage. There was no wait at the rental counter and the agent said my car was ready upstairs. I checked the Fastbreak board, grabbed my paperwork, loaded up and we hit the road! You know when you reserve your car, the picture shows a "similar" sized class of car to what you actually get? This is the first time ever that I got the exact car that was in the picture, down to the color! The Candy Red 2025 Mazda CX-90 is a nice vehicle with seating for 7, but I had to fold down the 3rd row, so that I could fit in all our luggage like a Tetris game. Upon our return, I just pulled up to the car return lane, the agent checked me in and I just took the tram back to the terminal. EZ PZ!

None of the other car rental companies had nearly as long of a line. There were more than a dozen pedestals, but only two to three employees working the whole time I was there. I had an issue with my vehicle nearly immediately (brakes) and needed to be towed back to the airport to exchange it. That process took another four+ hours to complete. I was also forced to wait in the long line a second time (I was told there is no customer service desk, so waiting in the line was my only option.) I've never experienced a rental company with such terrible customer experience. I will never do business with Budget again and am telling everyone I know about my experience.

She prepaid and received confirmation for a Jeep for two days at $356.83. I made a separate reservation for a Jeep for two days at $344.33 and chose to pay at the counter, locking in the price and confirming the vehicle. The next day, Sixt cancelled her reservation and refunded her. That made me uneasy. Our entire weekend was built around having a car. Hotels. Reservations. Timing. On 02/12/2026, I called to make sure mine was solid. I was told clearly that my Jeep was confirmed for two days at $344.33. When we arrived to pick up the car, everything felt normal. Then the screen turned toward me before the charge was processed. $2,252.34. I honestly thought it was an error. It was not. Six times the price I had confirmed. Six times the price I had called to double check. I had traveled nearly an hour and spent almost $80 in Uber fees to get the rental office. I had planned our entire weekend around having a vehicle. The Sixt corporate team had quietly increased the cost of the reservation due to the holiday weekend and left the service counter to deal with me and my wife. The team at the counter was outstanding. They did not create the problem, but they had to manage it. The only way they could get us into a car in that moment was to process the rental at the full $2,252.34 and then submit a refund for the difference back down to the confirmed rate. That was the best option available to them. We were fortunate that we could temporarily absorb a $2,252.34 charge while waiting for a refund. Many families cannot. My wife and I have used Sixt for years. When we were younger and just starting to travel together, Sixt was our company. You helped us create some of our earliest travel memories. That is why this hit the way it did. Roelen, the sales agent helping us, is the reason we did not leave angry. Ikaika, the branch manager, is the reason it did not escalate further. Not every manager stands behind their team when something like this happens, and that mattered. They protected your brand in that moment. They protected our experience. They protected the island. They turned what could have been a devastating start to our visit to the island into a manageable inconvenience. As we were walking to the car, Roelen ran out to us with two water bottles for the long drive back. He did not have to do that. That is the level of care your teams are working tirelessly to deliver. That is the standard they are trying to uphold every single day. But when customers are blindsided by pricing like this, corporate decisions are undercutting the very people on the ground who are fighting to represent your brand well. Your frontline teams are doing everything they can to build trust, and policies like this are quietly tearing it down behind them. Policies like this will quietly cost you families. Some will walk away and never say a word. Some will pay it and never come back. This is not how loyalty survives.

BEWARE **Title:…read moreLong-Time Customer - Extremely Disappointed and Frustrated** We have been renting from Sixt for years, which makes this experience even more upsetting. Unfortunately, after what happened in Maui, we will no longer be renting from them. We picked up the vehicle and did not notice any visible damage at the time. Later that night, while driving on the highway, we realized the car was pulling hard to the left and jerking unpredictably. At first, we didn't fully understand what was happening, but it quickly became clear the vehicle did not feel safe to drive. It was a very scary experience on Maui's highways. As soon as we recognized the issue, we contacted Sixt. They delivered a replacement vehicle, and we assumed the problem with the original car was properly documented. When we returned the replacement vehicle, we spoke directly with the manager about the original car and the handling issues. He told us it was "taken care of," so we believed everything was resolved. Now we are receiving emails accusing us of causing damage to the original vehicle and including threatening language about charges. This is extremely frustrating, especially after we reported the issue immediately and were assured by management that it was handled. There was no visible damage that would have alerted us at pickup. The issue only became clear once we were driving at highway speeds. We acted responsibly at every step. We recommend that anyone renting thoroughly document the vehicle and obtain written confirmation of any reported issues. Sadly, after years of loyalty, this experience has left us feeling very disappointed and unwilling to rent from Sixt again.
