    They need to contact about damage within 5 working days. I understand even 2 weeks but 6 weeks is suspicious.

    I would give zero stars if I could. I rented a BMW X7 from Sixt in Maui (July 10-15, 2025). On August 26 -- over six weeks later -- Sixt emailed me claiming I caused bumper damage. Their "evidence" was a photo timestamped July 10 at 11:56 AM, which was the exact time I picked up the car. That proves the mark they flagged was already there before I drove it. Worse, the close-up photo doesn't show the license plate or full vehicle context, so it can't even be confirmed as the same car. At drop-off, no employee flagged damage and I wasn't given a condition report. I also recorded a video at return showing the car was in the same condition as pickup. Sixt's own policy says damage is normally reported within 2-5 days, yet they waited six weeks. That delay breaks the chain of custody -- the car could have been moved, cleaned, or rented again. After checking online, I found this is not an isolated case. Many renters report Sixt pulling the same scam with bogus late claims. This is dishonest and predatory behavior. Avoid Sixt at all costs. There are plenty of other rental companies at Kahului Airport.

    Never rent from Sixt! I rented a car at Kahului Airport on 3/2/2026 and returned it 3/9/2026. The car had extensive pre-existing damage. There was so much damage that we took 10 pictures but could not photograph every scratch. No damage occurred during the rental, and none was noted by Sixt when we returned the car. On March 13, 2026 I received a demand for $1227.22 from Sixt for a superficial scratch to the left front fender. When we left the Sixt lot on 3/2/2026 at 1:49 PM we went through a damage scanner, and when we returned we went through a scanner again. Sixt stated, "Your rental vehicle was inspected for any changes both at the time of pick-up and return using AI-based vehicle inspection technology from ProovStation." Sixt provided photos showing the alleged scratch at the time of return and photos of the same area supposedly upon pickup which showed no scratch. However, the 'before' photos are not from the time of pick-up as alleged by Sixt, but are time-stamped the day before, 3/1/2026, when we were not even on Maui! The scratch Sixt probably happened in the 25 hours the car was in Sixt's parking lot before I got the car, perhaps from a roller bag pulled between parked cars. Since Sixt has substituted photos from before we were even on Maui, the only documentation of the condition of the car at pickup are our photos showing extensive pre-existing damage. I was not provided an opportunity to see the alleged new scratch when I was at the facility in Maui. It is definitely not as bad as the pre-existing deep scratch through the paint my wife photographed on the fender. The scratch looks like a scuff mark, which could probably just be buffed out. Instead, Sixt is demanding $1227.22 to repair and repaint their previously damaged fender. This is a grossly excessive damage charge! I have now sent five emails to Sixt, to claimsmanagement-usa@sixt.com, to customer service, and to the Office of the COO, and have received no response.

    AVOID AT ALL COST. I believe they systematically extort innocent people for damage claims. The car they gave me was dirty and not in great shape. I didnt notice this scuff they are claiming I made. They have a computer generated picture that only highlights a small mark. Look at the image. Its not a real picture of the door showing the state of the car. Its a modified image. Show me a real picture of the car from before and after. I'm never one to leave reviews but my experience has been so extremely poor it is insane. I have filed a complaint with the Office of Consumer Protection, BBB left reviews on all channels and added my story to the facebook group with the thousands of other similar claims that I am being pursued for superficial damage that I did not cause. Credit card insurance does not cover superficial damage so theres no way to be safe here unless you oblige to coverage through Sixt.

    Existing damage at time of pickup

    Beware of Fraudulent Damage Claims I rented a BMW X5 from SIXT at Maui Kahului Airport from June 24 to July 1, 2025. Upon return, I received a receipt stating no new damage was detected. Yet SIXT emailed me weeks later claiming I caused a scratch over 10 cm on the front passenger-side wheel arch -- a blatant falsehood. Fortunately, I had taken extensive video footage before leaving the lot that clearly shows the damage already existed. I even reported it to their exit booth attendant, who confirmed it was already annotated. SIXT ignored all of this and tried to hold me liable anyway. This isn't just my story -- dozens of reviews here and across the internet describe similar experiences. SIXT appears to run a systematic damage claim scheme, especially targeting customers who decline their insurance. Their own return documentation contradicted their claim, yet they pursued it until I threatened legal action. I've filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and I urge others to do the same. If you rent from SIXT, document everything and prepare for a fight. Better yet -- rent from someone else.

However, due to my experience on the…read moremainland with Enterprise (via my dealership service advisor), I decided to break from the usual. New pro tip, rent your car via Costco Travel. You get your pick of companies (Enterprise!) and vast auto selection that were quite reasonable. I nervously booked two weeks prior to leaving for Maui (OGG Kahului). But it turned out to be easy peasy once I landed. 1. Take a few free magazines and maps from the airport kiosks - they're helpful and has discounts too. 2. Take the tram across the street from baggage claim to the centralized rental car hub. 3. Shocked as there was no line as I approached the Enterprise customer service desk! Very personable individual who went through my contract and options. I declined additional insurance coverage, because my policy back home had me covered. I did opt for the prepaid gas (back on 8/26/25 it was $4/gallon). The new compact I had was so economical, I only spent an additional $30 before returning it on 9/2/25 slightly above E. Just make the best decision for your holiday needs. Note: Heed the warnings about driving in appropriate areas while on the island. I did not take my new compact off roading on unpaved, rugged routes! 4. I went to the second floor where I was greeted by another Enterprise person who pointed out the cars I was able to select from. Loaded the luggage into the trunk, took a 360 degree photo of the vehicle & license plate just in case, and familiarized myself with the car features. 5. Drove to the checkout gate where another airport person (who had just returned from my home state visiting family) finished off the car rental process and off on my merry way. 6. Returning to the airport, give yourself ample time to deal with OGG logistics. I followed the signage for car rental return. I drove to the appointed drop off area, got the vehicle checked back in without any issues, rode the tram back to the terminal, cleared the TSA and US agricultural checkpoints, and received my Enterprise receipt by email by the time I was at my departure gate/waiting area. Super customer service across the board from the OGG/Kahului Enterprise staff on 8/26/25 and 9/2/25. Sometimes one has to break from the usual and get pleasantly surprised. Aloha and mahalo!

Upon arrival at Kahului and retrieving our baggage, we rode the tram to the rental garage. There was no wait at the rental counter and the agent said my car was ready upstairs. I checked the Fastbreak board, grabbed my paperwork, loaded up and we hit the road! You know when you reserve your car, the picture shows a "similar" sized class of car to what you actually get? This is the first time ever that I got the exact car that was in the picture, down to the color! The Candy Red 2025 Mazda CX-90 is a nice vehicle with seating for 7, but I had to fold down the 3rd row, so that I could fit in all our luggage like a Tetris game. Upon our return, I just pulled up to the car return lane, the agent checked me in and I just took the tram back to the terminal. EZ PZ!

    I am a great fan of Budget. I get the fast break so I can avoid the lines at the counter. This time…read morewhen I went down to get my car, they did not have a display board to show where my car was. I had to wait in line and then they told me where my car was. The reason for fast break is to get your vehicle quicker. This wasn't really done at this location. I am also used to getting newer cars for my rental. This car was very old and beat up and not what I am used to for the budget rental car. The car was also dirty and had water stains on the mirrors. The car also didn't drive very well. I felt that the axle was loose or some kind of rod was loose. I feel that the Budget rental a car here could do a better job at cleaning the car and at their check-in process. I was a little disappointed in their service. However, their staff was very friendly and accommodating.
