I really loved Throw Social and I'd highly recommend it. On the first floor they have axe throwing and on the second floor there's a bar, cabanas and games (jenga, connect four, ping pong, beer pong etc). The games are free they just take your ID while you play. Its definitely a picturesque spot with excellent service. Our server was super attentive and helpful. New Spot Alert: Very cool place ! It's an awesome concept and it's very sexy. I was invited to a birthday party here and was very excited! I went to the website to look at the website and see the lay of the land. Yet, being armed with all this knowledge, can someone tell me what exactly is going on ??! I didn't play any games so my review is based on a Friday evening overall experience. First, I went in from the Throw Social entrance and assumed it was upstairs. So I took the elevator up. I got upstairs and saw a bar, people, and a massive area with games set-up. There was no concierge or front desk to get oriented on learn how everything works. Granted, there were a lot of people walking around with pink Hawaiian shirts bu they weren't engaging or friendly. Luckily, I found my friend at the curling section. No one ever walked by me and asked if I wanted a drink so I left that area and went to the bar. The bar .... very sexy ... it wasn't busy but it was steady. I tried to get the bartender attention and she was more concerned about chatting with her friends. A handsome man at the bar saw me waiting and told the bartender I needed a drink. I ordered a glass of Rose for my friend. She enjoyed it. I wanted a nonalcoholic beverage and my only options were soda, water or fruit juice ?? So, I ordered a pineapple juice. It was good and came in a cute glass. We eventually moved the party to a Cabana. They are first come, first served. It was very cute and chair, lounge tables, and a cart with cotton candy. I asked the server for food and she said the only thing they have is pizza ! I can't eat dairy so I didn't any food options on the 2nd floor. We ended up not playing games and chatted the entire night. Since it's new, I imagine they are working out all the kinks. Nevertheless, it's a great place for pictures, date night, girls night, and letting out steam. For a new spot in Ivy City, I left very underwhelmed. Luckily we were able to come upstairs after axe throwing. Someone had a private event but once we got upstairs the dj was still playing and the games were fun. Very nice atmosphere just too have fun. I mean come on! Could this place be any more dope!?! Located on Okie in Ivy City, which puts it in the perfect location for a fun night crawl for you and your friends. Maybe do a wine tasting at City Winery, walk over to Kickaxe for some axe throwing, and then head upstairs to THRoW Social for a nightcap in one of their beautiful cabanas with a tropical cocktail. I have been here twice already and have had a world of fun with friends, and even beat a date at axe throwing downstairs at Kickaxe, so of course, in the spirit of competition and having a good time, I highly recommend this place (and no, I will never just let a date win lol). Throw Social is an incredible experience, but it can be a little weird because there are a lot of things going on right when you walk-in. So here are a few tips in case you don't like feeling awkward like me when you're visiting a new location. - Yes, Kickaxe and THRoW Social are in the same venue. When entering on the second floor just up the stairs you enter into Kickaxe, a wood cabin-like space that has a gorgeous bar in the centre of the room and axe throwing toward the back. Throw Social is one elevator ride up to the third floor. The ground floor is an entrance and exit only. - If you are looking to experience both Kickaxe and Throw Social, I recommend putting your name on the list to axe throw at the front desk and then head upstairs to enjoy one of their cocktails while you wait. Or stay upstairs for iceless curling or foot bowling. - Ask the bartenders about the drinks they love to make - I have gotten some pretty amazing cocktails that way. - Take advantage of their cabanas! Throw Social is such a fun vibe - visited with no reservations on a weekend night and it was comfortably busy (not crowded and easy to get service at the bar) there are giant games like Jenga and ping pong that are open for play and open areas with seating. The larger cabana seating is available upon reservation for a fee otherwise there is open seating. I enjoyed the drink menu and the bartender crafted a spirit free cocktail upon request. Did not try any food items on this visit. There is no admission fee and you are not required to purchase food or drink to enjoy the games or dance area. The aesthetic is tropical like Miami and colorful with several very 'Instgrammable' areas for pictures. Limited street parking but there is a parking deck directly across from the venue. This place has potential. Me and a couple friends decided to check this place out on a Sunday afternoon for my birthday and overall the vibes are great. Unfortunately, once we were seated- we were not acknowledged for at least 30 minutes! We went to the bar multiple times to ask about our server and they continued to tell us that we would be waited on soon. Mind you, the place was not crowded and there were several servers walking around but not to us. I would like to recommend this establishment, however I am not certain if you would have a positive experience. The prices of the items were moderately priced and there's no traditional shareable such as Fries so you'll have to eat your wings by themselves. I was really excited to try this place out but was torn between throw social and kick axe (located below this venue) so we decided to divide our time up. On a Saturday we arrived at 7:20 for our 8pm reservations. Grabbed a drink at the bar and it was very average and we were escorted to our area around 8:10, (10 minutes after reservation) to a dirty area that had not been cleaned from the previous guest. We used the bar side and just stood there and played. We ordered drinks and food before we started playing games and the table reservation area and food/drinks did not come available until our time slot ended. Another party came and we were pretty much asked to move. Very awkward and embarrassing. We talked to manager Sarah and she was rude and not accommodating. We went to our next reservation at Kick Axe around 8:50pm for a 9:15 reservation and they were ready for us. Their manager helped us out without any issues. Our host Taco was great and we had a awesome experience. I would not go back to throw social although I did like the games they had available it was just a bit tight. My favorite part: the decor! I love how this place is decorated. The tiles on the floor are beautiful (albeit sticky), and there are so many cute nooks that are gram worthy. My friend's order of old bay wings came back with quite a few that had either no meat or sparse meat on them like someone had already stated eating them. My friends macaroni bites looked real light skin and sick. My mumbo sauce wings were not very crispy and my other friend had sliders that were cold. All in all, I'd give the food two thumbs down. The service was satisfactory and our waitress was pretty quick so I have no complaints here. The kicker was the fact that apparently someone had bought out the area we were sitting in and after we put in a food order (around 8:45pm) we were told that we needed to vacate the area by 9:30. Ok? Then why allow us to put in a food order and why not block off the area? Or place "reserved" cards on the table? This meant we would have to finish our food very quickly. In the middle of us eating around 9:20, we were once again informed we had to move. As it was kind of crowded and we had food, the person should have offered to help relocate us. They did not, and said well you can find seating over there (and pointed aimlessly behind them). Would I go back? Eh. Definitely not to eat. I went to this location with a group of 8 people with a reservation for a section. When we got there it was at least 90 degrees due to their AC being broken which has to be an OSHA violation. We sat down in our section and realized even with fans on it was not getting any cooler. We asked to be moved outside which they could not accommodate. We then asked the manager and the waitress(Kaylynne)to lower the minimum which they agreed. The rest of the night the waitress(Kaylynne) barely came over to check on us. We had to ask for a refill on water multiple times before she actually brought it. We watched her twerk and take shots with the section next to us as she consistently walked past us not asking if we wanted to order more. We had to find her and ask her for new drinks all night. At the end she brought a bill which was $116 more dollars than the agreed amount. When we stated this made no sense she said her manager was gone now and that she has our card on file already. We then got up to find someone else to help. We asked for a receipt and the waitress(Kaylynne) refused to give one. She started yelling cussing us all out and calling us all "Broke B*****s". From there this obviously elevated. I asked her name and I was met with a "Get the f*** outta my face" that is when I took her picture. She(Kaylynne) reeked of liquor which is extremely unprofessional. (Why was our waitress more intoxicated than us.) Security had to hold the waitress back while we tried to sort through the issue. She(Kaylynne ) was incredibly rude and should not be working there. We are so disappointed. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. DO NOT GO HERE. It is cute inside, but NOT worth it. (Please read it all) I came with a group of 9 people for brunch, and we booked a cabana thinking it would be busy on a Saturday. First, you DO NOT need to do this; we walked in, and it was completely EMPTY on a Saturday afternoon. Paying a $150 fee for a cabana was NOT needed. It stayed pretty empty throughout our time. Also, the AC was broken. It was miserable, hot, and humid; we couldn't even enjoy sitting there because of the temperature. They had big fans on, but it was still unbearable with the summer heat. I was sitting in my own sweat. We asked them to move us outside because of this condition, and they accommodated us. We ate our food and drank, meeting the $300 minimum we thought we saw online. Then the staff told us we needed to pay $450 in food. We were all confused because that's not what our expectations were, but they argued we booked an inside cabana, and it is that price. We didn't even end up sitting in there because they had no AC so we didn't even get to enjoy the benefits of a more expensive Cabana for one. And second for the price we were paying, that is ridiculous. Sitting outside was not much better at ALL. We showed them the website and our booking; nowhere did it say $450 minimum. Then they asked the cardholder to talk separately from the group, which we thought was weird. My friend came back and said they had stated they would do the $300 food minimum instead of $450 if we tipped well. We agreed and said okay (even though it should have been $300 in the first place because we ended sitting outside and the conditions were not up to standard). He went up to pay, and they rang his card up. This is where we messed up and should have asked for a receipt before paying. But usually, restaurants will give you an itemized receipt beforehand; you shouldn't have to ask. We got the total back, and it was $574. We were shocked! He went back up and asked the waiter, and she said, "Oh, that's after taxes." There's no way taxes are that much. Later on, he found his digital receipt (shown below), and they tipped themselves $150 PLUS gratuity, which is $85 (totaling $235). THAT IS AN 80% TIP OF OUR FOOD ORDER. Absolutely ridiculous, and we feel completely scammed by this place. The food was mediocre, and the drinks were okay. For the price we paid, you can get high-quality food and ambiance somewhere WAY better. If management sees this, I hope you take action accordingly. This was a disappointing and distasteful way to run a business. This place has a lot of potential but is disappointing overall. I have been following this place for a while on social media and was excited to check it out but I definitely wouldn't come back. The decorations are very cute and the entire place is super Instagram worthy even though everything does come across as looking cheap. The place is way smaller than it looks from social media and I was surprised to find that they only offer two games: football bowling and iceless curling. The games look fun but at $30 a person to play, the price is too outrageous to participate which defeats the purpose or coming. Almost NO ONE was playing the games and I can only imagine its because the pricing doesn't make sense. The service is overall not very good. We had a server for our cabana but they rarely came over so most people in our group ended up ordering from the bar. We had a large group and were ordering a ton and also had a cabana so expected we'd have better service but having the cabana was pointless. The bartenders were a bit rude as well. The drinks are thankfully reasonably priced. $7-8 for a seltzer or beer and $11-13 for a cocktail. They have a TON of drink options and a ton of seltzer flavors and beer so that was a win. The drinks themselves are just okay. Lastly, the vibe of this place overall is strange. Our party thought the place would have more of a Sunday Funday vibe with music and dancing and games but the music was awful, a very weird mellow jazzy elevator type music, and the energy there was a dud. No one in the place looked like they were having fun... I'm honestly surprised by all of the positive reviews with the place operating how it is. If you're looking for a fun hangout with friends, family or a significant other then this is a great place to go. They don't start checking ID's until 9PM if you want to bring your kids. It's located on top of Kick Axe. My friend and I came in through Kick Axe and rode the elevator up. They have a bar where you can order food and drinks. The drinks are strong but good. The food is bar food but the pizza and wings my friend and I had were tasty. They have cabana's for rent as well and an area where people were playing football bowling but I think they change the games out in that room. My friend and I ate and drank upstairs until it was time for us to throw axes downstairs. This is a good place to come hang out or past the time until it's your turn to throw axes. Very overrated, expensive and terrible service. I really mean god awful service. If you want to try this one time to play games and check out the venue then eat and drink somewhere else before you arrive - you'll be grateful you did. I made a reservation for curling for 1 hour for 2 people that cost a total of $62.13. The person that checked us in gave us a quick run down on how to curl. We ordered a Painkiller + Refillable Souvenir Rose Gold Pineapple Cup and Bold Rock Watermelon Draft which showed up about 15 minutes later, she checked on us once after, but then when we were ready to order additional cocktails our server did not return until our hour was up. We even went to search for her and we gave her our order handing her the cup to be refilled. She came by and we had to close out our check with only the 2 drinks we originally ordered. Odd, ok. She said we can move to any open table and get our drinks. We found an empty high top near the bar and sat and waited for our drinks. My refillable souvenir rose gold pineapple cup sat on the bar for 30 minutes (I took a video of the venue and you can see my cup in the background) which is absolutely absurd. The venue wasn't busy enough for there to be that long of a wait.  I saw people walk up to our waitress, order drinks, and they were made very quickly by the bartenders and then given to those customers.  We realized that she forgot to put our order in until she saw that the pineapple cup was still sitting at the bar which she moved from the edge to the center of the service bar. I eventually received my painkiller but my boyfriend did not receive his PBR.  We had to ask for the PBR.  It arrived about 5 minutes later because opening that can is a 5 minute process but in total it took about 40-45 minutes to get our drinks from start to finish.  We asked for our check, closed out and immediately left.  It was a pretty disappointing experience because we were prepared to drink quite a bit and our tab was a total of 2 drinks during curling and 2 drinks after between 2 people. read more

This place is a must visit! the area is huge and its lots of fun. It is fun because they have a lot of games and the games are jumbo sized! Some games require you to give your ID such as cup ball, but that's no issue. They have an outdoor bar and two huge indoor bars which is great! The workers there love to laugh with you as they did with me which makes the place more inviting. They offer you your choice of drink on time and are happy to serve you! Honey! A hidden gem! This place takes me back to my Florida roots. I am in love with the aesthetics. The designer skipped not a single detail in creating an adult wonderland, a playground with beautiful color and texture combinations, outdoor beach vibes inside of a multipurpose establishment. I was nervous when I asked the waitress about glassware and she informed me that they only had plastic. I was also frightened when she said all of the cooked food is frozen, not fresh; however, seeing how meticulous the designers were about each detail, I should've known they wouldn't disappoint with neither the drink ware nor the food... both were a delightful treat. Although plastic, the drink ware was flamboyant, unique, and looked like glass to the naked eye. The food was delicious. No complaints at all, and I am a very tough critic. My companion wasn't please when his Negroni (a light, purple Gin cocktail) came out red and tasted much different than expected. He expressed that the bartenders may not have been knowledgeable about the ingredients or how to expressed that they lacked some of them. They were other signs that the waitstaff may have lacked proper knowledge about beverage options and were unable to make proper suggestions, but the staff was pleasant and made for a great experience, especially our server, Shaniqua (and I never remember names)! Most people never read these reviews, but I'm still leaving one in case I can reach just one person and tell them: I know it's cute, I know it's unique, but DON'T DO IT. It's NOT worth it. If you intend to have your event at this place- don't. If you do anyways- you better get an attorney and prepare for planning HELL. And if you have to deal with the GM.... best of luck, I hope you drink! Genuinely one of the most horrendous women I have ever met. We had our post-destination wedding reception here and it was an absolute nightmare. My first event manager ghosted me and I had to call the venue to get someone to respond after months of not hearing from him. And then it happened AGAIN with my second event manger. When my third event manager stepped in she informed me they double booked the venue and asked me to move my start time to accommodate the party before me even though I signed my contract almost 1.5 years prior. After emails and emails, they informed me I would have my venue at 3pm as stated in my contract and not to worry. I confirmed this multiple times as well. Come to find out this information was false when I arrived and there were people still in the venue at 4:30pm. And when I had the "audacity" to be upset and say something about it, the GM felt it necessary to laugh and roll her eyes at me while calling me a liar. There is no air conditioning. Just a few fans, so it gets hot. The food at our tasting was awful- I'm talking chunks of hard beef fat and smelly, grey fish. Luckily we were able to outsource our main food which I was assured was possible when I first signed my contract. It took fighting and arguing for months up until FOUR days before our event. The GM had lied about securing a vendor. She told me someone else was handling it while at the same time telling me I was being difficult for asking for details because she's had them the whole time! It's unfortunate because the space is so unique and some of those employees were absolutely wonderful. I hope they find somewhere better to work. However, I would never EVER recommend you have an event in this location. They don't know how to uphold promises (or contracts), the food tastes like salt is the only seasoning they own, and their organization skills are no where to be found. I would write 1000 reviews a day if it meant I could save just one person from this place. If the smell and stains alone doesn't put you off, hopefully this review does. In response to the venue: Guests did not arrive 50 minutes early. I did along with my husband and some family to help set up as per my contract stated I could and as I informed my event managers I would. I will admit some guest showed up a little early (as many do for a wedding), but more like 20 minutes. And we had agreed 4:50 was the time people would be ready to start serving guests. At 5:14pm was when the first guest was let upstairs (not a typo because I checked the time when our first guest came up). Nothing was outside my contract. I ensured that everything I wanted was detailed in my contract or agreed upon in writing before I signed it. And if there was something you agreed to that was outside my contract- no one told me! I did update my review to acknowledge that it was the food that was prepared by your chef for our food tasting that was horrible. A statement that your staff agreed with. It's unfortunate that we did not end on a positive note. Especially since you have some employees who are absolutely top tier. And the venue has great potential. LENGTHY REVIEW I have mixed feelings about this place. I dealt with Brent Davidson in special events I had reservations for 3/25 at 10pm. I dealt mostly with them via telephone except making my deposits/ payments. So I asked most questions via phone. Something that was very important to me was having a live DJ during the event so I asked if they had a DJ on this day 3/25 and was told yes HOWEVER what they didn't tell me is the DJ leaves at 10pm DUHHHHH seems like they would've told me that since I asked about a DJ and knowing our RSVP was at 10pm so I asked the lady could I cancel she said she said yes I had 24 hours to cancel and get my money back she suggested I call back and speak with Brent who is a manager when I called him he told me I COULDNT GET ANY MONEY BACK I actually wanted to cancel due to them telling there'd be a DJ and then come to find out it was a rock band not what we are into Brent wasn't willing to give me a single dollar back he told me basically he couldn't validate what I was told over the phone all info is on the website which is true but what about those that don't know how to use internet websites etc they depend on THRōW socials staff to give accurate info. They also didn't tell me I could only have one check and use one credit card which I also feel they should've mentioned ahead of time. Most places will only allow one check but will allow more than one credit card payment. Our reservation was for 10 they didn't seat us until 1035pm. We paid for a package two cabanas food and drinks the food came out cold nachos were soggy. Brent told me the roof top was covered HOWEVER it's not it's just like some blinds thing they pull down and some were BROKEN. luckily it wasn't raining but I was cold. There was a rock band that was playing which I didn't know about until the day before my reservation when I called to get more details about my event. Again I was told there was a DJ a local DJ from WDC was expecting a rock band however the band was good I must acknowledge that. The area they had us in was considered the roof top it wasn't clean there was bags of trash in two places and the trash can by us was overflowing while there from 10p-130am it NEVER GOT CLEANED. The place has lots of potential it's definitely got great decor and good vibes. The games are fun if you can get a turn to play them. We only got to play Jinga. The drinks are very sugary lacks the alcohol. The waiter was cool and did his best to serve us. The Hispanic guy that delivers the food didn't speak English so when we tried asking for napkins etc he was clueless. Celebrated my bf birthday a little early by doing something different. We are the "casino or dinner" couple not the party or club couple, so this was extra af for us. LOL But we had plenty of fun. It's a lot of fun inside Throw Social. There are Dj's, games, people dancing, and plenty of seating areas. The DJ was playing music constantly all day. Loved it. Drinks were decent. My bf had Mumbo wings. I had chicken tacos. Bartender lady on the back patio area was very nice and fun. She was very attentive. Went here for a birthday party,please don't waste your time. Its a good concept but service is horrible. We got a cabana and had a hard time getting drinks. Food was cold and guacamole was black and chips were stale. For the amount of money that they charge it was certainly disappointing. We got 2 bottles and had to ask multiple times for more limes and cups. We had to bus our own tables and it was hard to get the waitresses attention. We ordered 2 margarita trees and had to wait over 30 min to get them to the table. Like I said great concept but really lacking on the food, drinks and customer service. The short story: terrible service, not casual group friendly, food is trash, overpriced. Would not recommend. Long Story: Lets set the scene... It's a Tuesday night in DC, it's raining, and the place is pretty empty. They have these beach cabana type seatings all around the space and outside. They also have these hightop square tables inside that seat 4 and then these larger rectangle tables that sit around 6 outside and inside. They also have these smaller circular cocktail hightop tables that sit 3 that are next to all the ping pong games. Our group of friends a total of 9 of us came to celebrate one of our friends 30th birthday. The first group that arrived was greeted and were told it was self-seating and my group that arrived around 10 minutes later were not greeted so we wandered around trying to find them. Now lets get to the bullet points. 1. Our first group of friends sat outside in the cabanas, once we arrived and headed towards them the general manager was like "oh no, you all can't sit there, I thought it was just them. Also we have no servers for outside so you would have to order everything at the bar if you want to sit outside". Okay cool we move inside and head towards the hightop square tables 2. We start moving the hightop square tables so we could all sit together and the manager comes around again and says "oh you can't do that either, also we only have one server and myself for inside" If you want to get a cabana that's going to be $100 plus there's also a food and beverage minimum you have to meet. 3. ...... Okay, so then we move to the small circular cocktail hightop tables, we don't even dare try to move them because we might get told we can't do that either. 4. We order food & cocktails. Birthday girl ordered Nachos with beef, but it seemed as they ran out of beef and only had sour cream. Another one of our friends ordered Nachos with no Jalapeños, they put Jalapeños, then they took it back to the kitchen and instead of making a new order they just picked off the Jalapeños, or at least tried to... they missed a couple. Our cocktails came after our food not sure why the cocktails took longer than the food to make. 5. One of the cocktails had hair in it, and when we mentioned it, the response was "where is it?" They took it back, my friend did not want another. 6. Because we had to sit in this awkward circle high top area, those that were playing ping pong and water pong kept having their pong balls fall near or under our table. 7. I'm pretty sure if you put pulled chicken on a menu you should give someone pulled chicken not diced chicken... The Polynesian pork slider was cold. Also... here is a picture of how empty the place was when we left. It was this empty when we came in. I think they could have accommodated us by letting us put those tables together. read more

Our server Donesha was very down to earth and was able to navigate us through the food and drink menu, and what do you know....to our surprise, everythinh was spot on!!!!
