Had a busy day of photo shoots and decided to stop here for lunch in between, and so glad we did! The waitress was super friendly, even went out of her way to clear a larger booth for us so we'd be more comfortable (and we went at a relatively quiet time). I had chicken tenders and a waffle with a side of cheesey grits and it was all outstanding. Spouse had the "midnight heart attack" and raved how much he enjoyed it. He had a side of coleslaw which we both thought was super tasty. It was such a cute little place and we really enjoyed such a nice lunch there. First impression: OMG what a wonderful notice! On the door was notice of all the usual (small) irritations about billing, charges, and misc. information rules. Very open, honest and transparent. Saturday, 10 AM, and we were greeted and seated immediately. Breakfast was delicious. Scrambled, over easy and over medium, the eggs were perfect. Buckwheat pancakes were amazing. All 5 of us were delighted. Our waitress could write the book "Waitressing made easy, but perfect." She caught the fact that my son was given the wrong toast, grabbed it and immediately changed it. We were checked on several times about what we needed (nothing). We seemed to have the only table big enough for 5 or 6. If you are coming as a group, you may want to call ahead. Definitely 5 stars. Visited the Alpharetta Thumbs up Diner for the first time. I am a frequent customer of the Atlanta location with I love so my expectation high.Unfortunately the experience did not live up to my expectations. It was a nice early morning crowd, but the restaurant was not overly crowded. I seated myself at a single table and waited for my server. He came by and was very courteous and immediately took my order of water and coffee. After perusing the menu, I decided to get a ham and cheese omelette with a side of grits and sourdough toast. My server seemed confused about my order and repeated several times cheddar omelette, and I reiterated yes ham and cheddar omelette. I had a feeling he didn't get my order correct and I was right. The server brought out a cheese omelette with a side of grits and sourdough. I said oh I wanted ham and cheese. His comment was OK. I will get them to put some ham in it. That was not the answer I was expecting, but I said OK. He returned a few minutes later with an omelette with ham in it and cheese and my grits. The grits looked very dense. There was no extra butter, but I dug in. Unfortunately, they were lukewarm and not very tasty. My omelette was warm, but not hot and you could tell that they had just opened the omelette up and threw some ham inside. I continue to dig in and just found the omelette to be only so so. I ate a few of the grits but again they were lukewarm in on appetizing and at that time I was just not in a mood to send it back so I finished my omelette half a slice of sourdough toast, which again was not cold, but definitely not hot. All in all, this was not what I was expecting from this location of the thumbs up diner. I may give it another try later, but if that's the type of service and the type of food preparation that is standard, I won't be visiting this location very often. read more

Good food, service is normally very good, I have been coming here for 10+ years and love to sit outside on nice days. Service is slower outside but it is probably because there servers also have to service the inside customers more often. My friend always orders the buckwheat pancakes and I have always ordered the corned beef hash, which has been getting more potatoes in the mix than I like, so I decided to try the bacon and waffles. On Sunday morning my wife and I had breakfast at the Thumbs Up Diner in Roswell. The location was easy to get to and parking was not an issue. Even though it was very busy we were able to get seated right away. My wife ordered scrambled eggs with crispy potatoes and a plain bagel. I ordered their House Specialty Sedona Omelette w/ Chicken sausage, red onions, tomatoes, pepper jack cheese, topped with avocado and paired it with a toasted Sesame Seed Bagel and coffee. The coffee was hot and fresh but overall it was pretty average--I would rate it a 6.5 out of 10. Really great coffee can make a huge difference so I was a little disappointed that with the high ratings for this restaurant that the coffee was not better. My wife let me try some of her crispy potatoes and they were outstanding---fresh, hot, with just the right amount of crisp and perfectly seasoned! My omelette was slightly above average in quality, it was cooked well enough but lacked proper seasoning and really didn't have any wow factor as taste or texture --just a straightforward slightly above average omelette. The sesame bagel was good however they only offered 1 type of jelly to go with it and it would have been nice if they had at least 2 or 3 different kinds to choose from to have with either bagel, biscuit or toast. My wife said her scrambled eggs were good but that she has had much better scrambled eggs at other breakfast places in town. Overall our experience was pleasant but nothing memorable except for the crispy potatoes which were great, but that was only 1 component out of the breakfast so overall I would rate as slightly above average. TUMBS UP - ROSWELL It's not often that I'm impressed with a restaurant, especially a breakfast/lunch establishment, however, after being disappointed again with Flying Biscuit last week, I searched for another breakfast joint this morning. Thumbs Up is a southern, made-from-scratch, home cooking diner. It's tucked in the plaza with and shares the parking lot with another favorite place of mine, Lucky's Burger & Brew. The food was outstanding. The biscuits are now my favorite in the Alpharetta/Roswell area. Their apple butter/jelly is homemade and their portions are quite healthy in this time of so much shrinkflation. The coffee is excellent and the scrambled eggs were cooked and mixed to perfection (something that several so called breakfast places fail to achieve all too often). And to top off an already great encounter, the wait staff is friendly and efficient. This morning, Jennifer was my waitress. If you do want to try this restaurant, ask for Jennifer! They use to be dog friendly. I was there last Saturday where when I asked for some water for the dog. The waitress said that she cannot bring me any for him, I asked her why not, she said that there is a state law that says she could not.yet they have dog bowls over on the side there. I then asked her for some water, then got up and got the dog bowls over on. Poured the water into it and then asked her to get me another glass. She did. I then ordered my breakfast and I then ordered a side of eggs for my dog. She then said that she could not give me a plate for him. I ordered a pick up order on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered French toast and pancakes. Juan took my order over the phone and my husband went to pick it up. When he got home the French toast was raw and gooey on the inside. I called back and the manager said she "couldn't find our check" to refund the food and that we needed to bring it back up there. I've been a regular at the Thumbs Up Diner for well over five years. I try to eat breakfast there at least twice a month. I always order the Fried Catfish with eggs and grits. Today was my worst experience there. The service was great, BUT they've cut back on the portion of catfish that I was served. There was more thick batter than catfish. I felt like I was ripped off. They must've cut back on the portion served recently because I was satisfied with my portion almost three weeks ago. I was greatly disappointed and I will not be returning. I understand that costs have risen in fine years, but don't cut back on the portions being served. I would've preferred that they raise the price instead. We have been eating at this location for several years, but have definitely noticed a downturn in the overall value since new management came in last year. Prices seem to have inched up (eg. - a side of potatoes is $4!). They also have begun to add a 2.89% mystery "admin fee" (if it's a credit card fee, I would understand, I suppose, but they don't say that). Today we were honored to use a "VIP" $5 off coupon, but felt nothing like a VIP after our visit... we had to ask multiple times for napkins after our food was on the table and getting colder by the minute, and the manager made it a hassle to redeem the coupon (she was certainly not in a customer-friendly mood today). Went to lunch with a friend as I get to know Roswell. She suggested this place since they serve breakfast all day. I love cooked breakfast at any time of day so we went there. (Saturdays close at 3pm) Menu was stacked with choices. Had chicken and waffles with scrambled eggs and something they called "spuds." The spuds were their version of home fries that filled the entire plate. Also tried their biscuits. I was starving so everything was tasty and hit the spot. The service was good and the food came out fairly quickly. They checked with us multiple times and have a QR code billing system to speed up the check out process. Since it was sold,changes happened. Some good, some not so good. Long time patron since they opened. They had one of the best Burger Melt/Patty Melt in Roswell. You could depend on this to be the same quality every time,used Angus Beef, not sure what kind of 'beef' now but pretty tasteless. Oh and no longer pickle spear, it's pickle slices. Not providing real lemons anymore, so if you want real lemon you will have to bring your own. The inside was freshened with paint, nice change. Staff is very friendly, calling out Jennifer who has been a fixture for many years, always a smile. Tried the catfish recently and it remains the same. Very good. Thumbs Up Diner now adds a fee to your tab. So in addition to Tip and Taxes there is a new line item called Delivery Fee. I asked what is was because I was eating in the diner and paying CASH. He said it was for banking fees and I still had to pay it even though I paid cash! They also switched to QR code for menus and a QR code on the bill (to pay tab). So, I'm not sure where exactly the Service is! I'm doing more and also paying more so it doesn't make sense. I'm giving 1 star for service. read more

When I opened the link the menu was nearly impossible to read. When I determined that my business was too much of an inconvenient for the waitress I left. On the door was a list of house rules. My wife told me something horrific this morning regarding trying to place a pick up order. She called multiple times and got hung up on. On her final call she got a rude remark saying and I quote "fuck off and stop fucking around" when she was only trying to place an order- she gets there and tells the manager-she said she would figure out who it was. Got together with my friends to catch up and they invited me here for an early breakfast. I had no idea this place existed in this shopping center. It's located right past Canton Street going towards Alpharetta. Parking lot isn't massive but there is plenty of seating inside, with tables, booths and a large outdoor patio. The booth we sat in still had a lot of spring in its cushion. This place serves up breakfast and lunch food. Teetering on really wanting to go 2 stars: service was spotty (it took some time to bring my coffee, maybe bc I ordered decaf, plus she wasn't that attentive) and I wasn't a fan of my meal. I ordered the chicken and waffles w/ scrambled eggs. The waffle wasn't that sweet, they brought just a small ramekin of syrup and the chicken was really hard to cut. I did like whatever they used to season the chicken though. My friend had the Southwestern Eggs (which is what I had thought about ordering) and her meal looked delicious. Maybe this place needs a second visit by me. Honestly, this visit was a 2 star experience for sure but I'm rounding up to 3. We've been going to this restaurant for a very long time, they've just recently had a change of ownership. Unfortunately, this did a disservice for the experience. The kitchen was filthy, if you saw where your food was coming from, you would not want to eat it. Second problem they very deceitfully added 2.8% up charge on all transactions in the restaurant. By law less than 3% you don't have to post it. My wife asked why they were charging this when we were paying cash, they said this was for all transactions, credit card or cash. The old owner used to bring the whole bottle of honey to the table when people wanted, honey. They now bring you a cap fullwhen you ask for it. We were very disappointed and will be looking for another location to have breakfast at when we visit Roswell. read more

this was one of our favorite spots. We haven't been in a while because we've been trying to eat at home more often and save money. We were very excited to go to this weekend. The menu has had a few changes. I ordered my usual turkey Reuben sandwich that I absolutely love. I don't think they're making the coleslaw anymore and I don't think they are smoking their own turkey. The sandwich was just not the same. It was also not as full of meat as it used to be.
