It was Not a lot of people but still a few full bar. Our waitress was awesome and always on the ball. The drinks were made just right which made everyone happy. We had lots of food at the table so we all got to try a little of everything. Of course I had to try the hot wings. They were good. *not hot at all btw* but they had a great flavor. Finding this place was something out of a scripted show. Let me tell you! My husband and I were walking down the street in Georgetown saying to each other "I need a really good burger right now." and we walked past this storefront and immediately went back. He was attracted to the "Burger" part of the sign, while I was focused on the "Bar" part. I'd say we both won, because our burgers were spectacular and their domestic seasonal beer, "OctoBEARfest" was such a treat. The collective service is top notch and the vibe is welcoming. Additionally, the way that they're handling things during the pandemic is noteworthy too. Of course, staff wears masks, there are bottles of sanitizer on the table, and they only allow one guest at a time in the bathrooms. This is our burger spot and we can't wait to come back! Stopped in for dinner after a long day walking around DC with my parents who were visiting. We were hungry and looking for a cozy spot with good food to get off our feet for a bit, and this was the spot!! Seated super quick on a Saturday night and the service was prompt and attentive. Forgot to take pics but we had the Bavarian pretzel with crab dip app and it was delicious. I had a thunder burger, my dad also had a burger and my mom had wings. We all enjoyed our food. The burgers were made with quality meat and cooked nicely. Fair warning their medium is rather pink inside, which I enjoyed but I would say it's more on the medium rare side. We arrived here at around 4:30 p.m. on a Saturday and were surprised to see just how busy it was at that hour. This made us glad that we didn't go later since no doubt there would have been a wait for a table. The dining area is cramped --- not as cramped as a Manhattan restaurant where you're just about rubbing elbows with your neighbors but still the spacing between the tables could have been better. I also agree with what some other Yelpers have written --- the place is too warm, which has me wondering what it would be like in the summer---yikes! To drink, I had a Jalisco Sunrise which consisted of "Alma Reposada Tequila, orange juice, pomegranate juice with a cinnamon and sea salt rim". This drink had a generous amount of Tequila in it---enough so that I could taste it but not enough to leave me feeling loopy LOL! The cinnamon and sea salt rim was unique yet it worked so well with the drink. My husband had a Stella Artois. We each got a thunder burger. The menu tells you that "all burgers are cooked to a warm pink center". However, you can order them cooked to your liking. We found that the default serving was just right in terms of flavor and juiciness Each burger comes with lettuce and remoulade sauce. The remoulade sauce will be applied to your burger bun unless otherwise specified. We both asked for it to be put on the side and our request was happily granted. Some additional toppings are free, others are $1 each, while others are $2 each. I opted for 3 of the $2 ones --- Havarti cheese, bacon and a fried egg. I never would have thought to put a fried egg on a burger but Yelp friend Hannah C. told me that I must try it with an egg --- even the server told me that it was really good with an egg on top. There was a part of me that hesitated---adding an egg just seemed to be adding yet another artery-clogging item to a burger. However, I rationalized it all away by saying that I don't usually eat burgers so what the heck---go for it. And I was glad that I did. I never knew that a fried egg and a burger could work so well together. The juicy burger flavor still comes clearly through and the fried egg (cooked over hard) flavor shines through and both compliment one another very nicely. My husband opted for mostly cheap toppings. He had tomato, raw red onions, bacon and Swiss cheese. We both got fries with our burgers. He, too, enjoyed every bite of his burger. Our only complaint is one that some other Yelpers had --- because the burger is so juicy, the bottom half of the bun gets very soggy. I guess that's the price one has to pay for a great burger. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. We're glad we gave Thunder Burger & Bar a try. My husband says that this is the 2nd best burger he's ever had, with the best being Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage in Cambridge, MA. I have to agree with that assessment! read more

Thunder burger and their big juicy bison burger! So good! A little too juicy as my whole burger fell apart while I was eating it but some people like that. The presentation is nice as they give you the little cup of fries to the side and a cute baby pickle too. The location is right off M street in Georgetown. Good spot. Inside is a little dark. Like a castle type decor. It's nice and romantic. The seating is close to your neighbor tho so don't go there to have serious conversations or break up with your significant other. Service was quick and attentive. And the bathrooms are upstairs. Not labeled they have designs on the door but the pink is girls and the other is boys. This reminded me of a cross between an English pub and a 1980s rock video when I first walked in (I mean that in a good way). The place isn't too big so call ahead for reservations on the weekend, especially if you have a large party. Otherwise, you can just chill in the bar and enjoy their excellent selection of draft beer while you wait for a table. You're not here though for the atmosphere, you're here to have a burger. They bring homemade pickles while you wait so keep that in mind while you're awaiting burger excellence. I recommend the "Learning to Fly", which is boar (it tastes like a cross between beef and bison without a "pork" or gamey taste) with Havarti cheese and pineapple salsa and will order this again. I had the regular fries which have some garlic and chive on them, they were good but not amazing. I understand on Wednesdays they also offer some burgers such as lion or camel so call ahead to check if you're interested. The service was kind of slow and it took a long time for us to be able to order and also to get our check. Everyone was friendly though and despite having a large party our orders were correct. Everything is a little expensive but then again such is Georgetown. If you're looking for an excellent burger in the Georgetown area give this place a try. read more

Our first place to eat at while in Dc. We were walking around shopping and decided to stop in. The place looks like a pub. The bar is the first thing you see when walking in. We were seated by the fireplace which was perfect since it was cold outside but also romantic for me and my newly married husband. We order everything off the app side since we didn't want to eat too much while out. We had the chicken wings which were so tasty! The fried calamari was bland and needed more seasoning to make it taste like something and the loaded potato wedges were on point too. 4.5 stars for a fantastic Burger bar experience. When my wife recommended that we check out Thunder Burger Bar, located on M Street, I was a little skeptical just because of the name. However, I was willing to give the place a try, and boy did it deliver. We showed up around 6:45pm on a Friday and they were able to squeeze us in for a table. The venue has a great "old timey vs modern" look with a great bar with TV's surrounded by tables on the bottom floor (and I believe ones on the top floor as well?). My wife and I took our seats right before happy hour ended and were able to order 1/2 beers ($4 for a craft beer? Nice!) and $5 chicken bites that were awesome (very tender and a great dish on their own)! While we put in our order with a female waitress that was a tad flaky, we were helped out by other members of the staff and a guy at the server stand who must have been the owner's son or something. He was super nice, really helpful with ordering and told us some fun stories about helping create one of the burgers and installing purse hooks (not so easy on fancy tough tables). His pleasant demeanor made the experience excellent. Our food came out after about 20 minutes and tasted great! I ordered the buffalo (can't remember name) burger, which included a bison patty, blue cheese, gorgonzola, and other fun toppings. While I got some ketchup to counter the blue cheese (my tastes are garbage. I know), the burger was phenomenal. I got coleslaw as the side (#teamnofries), and it was excellent and went well with the dish. My wife also enjoyed her Seoul Burger as well, and I will note that the table next to us ordered a crab cake that was almost as big as my head! Overall, Thunder Burger Bar provides a great venue, great service and a great burger. Four stars for an upscale burger bar with a cool interior and fun burgers. My husband and I came here just before seven on a Friday and managed to snag a high-top in the bar area. The restaurant was crowded and I would recommend reservations if you were in a time crunch. Happy hour runs until 7 and includes half off most draft beers, $5 wells and a few $5 appetizers. We both opted for beers and the chicken bites appetizer. These were delivered promptly despite the crowds. The chicken bites were surprisingly good and very tender. For entrees, I ordered the Seoul Burger. This was a special in honor of the winter Olympics (they also had Olympic drink specials for $8). My burger had grass fed beef, sauteed cabbage and a brown sugar sesame oil glaze. It was really good and the cabbage topping was good enough to order as a side dish. I stumbled into Thunder Burger and Bar after a local brunch on Wisconsin ave. A few friends and I were looking for a casual place to grab a drink and relax on a Saturday afternoon. The vibe inside of Thunder was great, there were numerous TVs around the bar showing the day's college football games and there was a warm chatter in the air. We grabbed six open bar stools (we were lucky to find six all in a row on the corner of the bar) and were greeted quickly by a couple of friendly bar tenders. We ordered a couple rounds of ciders, sangrias, and well drinks -- all ranged between $5 - $8 so not bad at all for a Saturday when they don't have a happy hour. The drinks were well made -- a nice taste and a slight kick to them to keep the party moving! It seems to be a popular spot to grab a bite as well; there were a number of patrons who came in to dine. Their food looked wonderful as it came out. I highly recommend the spot for casual drinks, and I'd definitely return to try out some of the delicious looking food. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to stop here while walking around Georgetown and I was so glad we did! It was a Sunday afternoon and we wanted to get breakfast so Thunder's brunch menu looked great. My boyfriend got the eggs benedict and I ate the corned beef hash with sunny side up eggs. They were both delicious and the potatoes were seasoned perfectly. One problem was that our server was so slow. We had to ask him for our check about 3 times and it wasn't even packed with people so he really didn't have any excuse. He did not even come to our table to ask if we were doing ok and we had to ask for more water. I think he was new but he should still know the basics of waiting. Went here for the "Thunder Burger." Found out the burger needs more flavor and less marketing/branding. There's nothing thunder about it. They should say it comes with a sauce, and call that "weak sauce" bc that's what this burger tasted like. I added grilled jalapenos as a topping. See the attached picture of what those grilled jalapenos actually were. Someone forgot the "grilled" part. So gross I had to take it off the burger. The only saving grace were the sweet potato fries. But when your saving grace are the fries, Houston, we have a problem. I give this place 6 more months until they're out of business, if they're lucky. read more

My boyfriend and I recently spent a week in Washington, D.C. for our third anniversary. We dined at Thunder Burger & Bar on our third night there after visiting the Holocaust museum and Brilliant Earth. I also appreciate how close the restaurant was to Brilliant Earth, we were able to park once and walk over. We even stopped at a liquor store on the way and the staff there was amazingly friendly! Once at Thunder Burger & Bar, we were greeted by an amazing staff and seated immediately where we received a complimentary glass of champagne before diving into some fried calamari and burgers. I ordered a glass of Sangria and a well done Buffalo Stomp burger while my boyfriend ordered an Angry Orchard and a Devil's Delight burger with caramelized onions and Pepper Jack cheese instead of Swiss. I thought the complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary was such a kind touch! The fried calamari was delicious and a nice opener to our meal. I thoroughly enjoyed my sangria as it was sweet and hearty. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger and I enjoyed mine when I first started eating. The mix of bison meat wrapped in bacon complimented the Gorgonzola blue cheese and remoulade. However, the burger proved to be exceptionally dry as I neared the end; I wish I ordered it medium well instead of well done. Overall, we both enjoyed our evening out. I waffled between giving Thunder Burger a 3 stars based off of service or 4 stars based off the food, and as you can see I decided to go with 4 thanks to the food. If I could I would give them a solid 3.5. I came here on a Friday night with a group of six and we had a wonderful time! To get the negative out of the way, the service was less than impressive. Our waitress was nice, but if something annoyed her a little bit (like questions) she didn't let her face hide it. When it came time for the checks, we requested separate ones but they said they weren't able to do so. I think that's ridiculous because they could have entered each pairs order as if it was just a different table. Finally, the manager came out and did this for us, but they acted like it was a huge to-do for them. For me, Thunder Burger has been one of those places that I pass over and over again but still had yet to go in. I was looking for something that wasn't too terribly expensive compared to other Georgetown prices and finally settled on them. I'm so happy I did, because the food was fantastic. Here's what our table ordered: Ventura Highway Learning to Fly Portobello Road Sweet Caroline Two Thunder Burgers (basically a build your own) Everyone loved their orders and it was agreed that the fries were amazing. Perfectly seasoned, crunchy, and a lot of them! I ordered sweet potato fries which is not what I usually do, but they were delicious. The side salads are also huge, which is nice because most of the time they are skimpy and not worth it. Mine was the Ventura Highway and I LOVED it! I don't think I've ever had brie on a burger, but man have I been missing out. The sauce was fantastic, the burger was cooked correctly, and the watercress was way more interesting than just lettuce. The interior of Thunder Burger is AWESOME! I must admit I've judged it wrong every time I've passed - based off of the name, the black colors, and the pink lights outside, I was expecting a rocker type of feel. Instead, you walk in to find a cozy fireplace tucked into one corner, cool furniture and comfortable chairs, and old brick walls that make you feel like you're in an English pub. Walked into here around 7 pm for a table of 3 and got seated right away. It was pretty busy but if you get here a little early, you should be fine without a reservation. I've heard a lot about Thunder burger so this may be a case where the hype about the restaurant somewhat lessened the experience I had. Being an adventurous eater, I definitely wanted to try one of the more unusual burgers (elk, boar or bison). I ended up going with the boar burger that has pineapple salsa and havarti cheese. I liked the burger, but I'm not sure if the pineapple salsa really added anything interesting. I got a little tired of the boar when I was almost done with the burger. The fries were crispy but tasted kind of bland. I wish there were more garlic or more sea salt, or both! The service was impeccable here. I always had a full glass of water and the waitress made sure to check up on us at least two times. She also offered to split our checks before we even asked. Not sure if I'll be going here again but I would go if a friend wanted to. read more
