Don't get lost, next to the Broken Spoke

Hands down, this place served up a top 5 burger of all time. I got the double smash burger, and it was perfect. How they smash those patties and get that crisp crust and keep it moist and juicy is a magic act in the kitchen. And I am sure now I like the traditional toppings, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and magic sauce. I have a burger blog going on 15 years, talk about how old it is on WordPress. Thunder Chief smash burger is going on my top 10. Just go and thank me later. I am going to post two pictures cuz its that special.

Thunder Chief Burgers is a burger joint/sports bar that serves up a really great smash burger. It's won a few awards recently and has joined the Austin food scene with a bold attitude and a no-frills approach, this spot is definitely worth checking out if you're a burger enthusiast. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - This is your typical sports bar setup. There are plenty of bar height tables and chairs and TVs all around. But it was strangely empty on a Saturday in late May. Other than the empty vibe, the setup is casual and straightforward--clearly focused more on the food than the frills. NOTE: There were no paper towels in the men's room. 1/2 Stars. Service - Each table had QR code you scan then order from your phone. Once you order, your food is brought out quickly to your table by the friendly staff. Fast, efficient, and with a smile. No complaints here! 1 Star. Food - I ordered the smash burger. Thunder Chief absolutely nails the Maillard reaction--those crispy, caramelized edges on the patty were perfection. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of char. It's clear they know what they're doing. I also appreciated the simplicity of the toppings, which let the beef shine. My curly fries were ok and forgettable. One of the best smash burgers I've had, but also one of the priciest. $15 for smash burger with caramelized onions + $4.50 for fries. 1 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. Despite the quiet vibe during my visit, the burger alone is enough to bring me back. I'd love to try it again when the place has a bit more energy--maybe during one of their $5 Smash Burger Mondays.

Stopped in for the Friday lunch special. $5 chicken sandwich. You have my attention. Find the menu and order through the QR code. The bar wasn't very busy. Service was prompt from the bartender and the kitchen. Thunder Chief is only open for lunch Friday, Saturday, Sunday. They have great deals running all week for when you get off work or dinner. There was a decent variety of beers on tap. Multiple screens in the bar. Not too quiet. Not too loud. My sandwich was amazing. Crispy but still juicy chicken. I added lettuce and tomato. I'll definitely stop in again.

Let me start by saying this place is fire. I don't give out 5 stars unless the food really impresses me and the first taste of the nachos had my eyes popping out of my head goofy-style. The sauce/cheese/chicken combo is undefeated. This is the first time the Smashburger wasn't the star of the show. everything else came second to those nachos, they have changed the way I look at food.

Thunder Chief is inside Lavaca St Bar and serves a small but diverse menu of elevated bar food and snacks. Everything we've tried here has been unexpectedly phenomenal. Fresh, full of flavor, and served with love. The cook is very kind and last weekend when I couldn't finish my amazing HUGE double smash burger he came and talked with us to make sure everything was just right. I felt bad for not being able to finish it because it was so delicious and he was so concerned my husband had no problem devouring his! The burger is one the best in town, Wagyu patties smashed so the edges get nice and crispy, fresh toppings and perfect bun. They've got the good ranch folks!! Can't recommend this place enough!

We must have driven by Bouldin Acres dozens of times and pretty much had no idea that it existed…read moreuntil some friends suggested it as a meetup spot to watch the World Cup last weekend. There's this huge building that looks like an unassuming co-working space, but it turns out that there is a whole fun world behind it! They have a great setup: there's a little playground, a paddle board court, corn hole, etc to keep kids entertained and they had a huge screen set up to watch the game. And tents! Thank you for having tents and misters! The ambience is spot-on. Overall, we were happy with everything that we ordered to eat. The buffalo cauliflower bites were a bit too saucy, but nice and smoky. The CM Chopped Salad--which was NOT chopped--had a ton of good veggies and a fun dressing. Our daughter managed to finagle two orders of chicken fingers and those were slightly better than the normal junk that comes out. Cold beers on tap, Aperol Spritzes on a hot day--what is there to complain about? We were glad to be leaving when we did because the place was starting to get slammed and rowdy and not as appealing, so be mindful of the partying witching hour. But for a late afternoon World Cup meet-up with friends, this was a good time. Four stars.

Since my last review, I have been here multiple times and I still love it…read more I came here a lot for March Madness. There are so many TVs, there isn't a bad place to sit. There are booths, tables, high top tables, a few picnic styles bench tables, and a pretty large deck. They recently added a side deck. It would be nice if it was covered and then perhaps some lattice or other barrier to keep the Texas sun off your back! I've tried several things on the menu and I've enjoyed them all. I've seen other meals delivered and they all look great too. Today I popped in for a late lunch and lucky me it was still Brunch O'clock. I wavered between the chicken and waffles and the burger. I saw the burger being delivered to a nearby table and it immediately solidified my decision- burger!! I am a burger and fries "foodie". ;) I'm very picky about my burgers and have eaten some of the best burgers in town. It was delicious! The fries aren't my favorite but decent. The burger was perfectly cooked and so was the egg (breakfast burger). I'd definitely get that again! The bartenders are friendly and they are hard workers. This definitely is a place where their systems are intact. They all work together and get orders out quickly. I'm guessing the bartenders and the waitresses all pool their tips. They all hustle. I sit mainly at the bar so I can see their work effort. I've done that job before so I know how hard it can be.

I've tried their wings and burger and the burger is super delicious. The best thing they have on the many will probably come as a surprise, as it's their freaking churros!!! The people are friendly and the vibe is casual, with a lot of TVs around the bar to watch sports anywhere you sit. There's not too many bar options down in western south Austin, so this is a really good spot to meet up w its friends and watch a game while having some good food!

The menu is full of incredible options, you're sure to find something that inspires your palate, and satisfies your belly!! Our server, Lila, is a beautiful person full of joy, and clearly loves what she does! We were there with friends, and enjoyed a beverage before ordering food; even the drink menu has something you probably haven't tried before! #GoForIt! The food is incredible, served hot and fresh. The flavors in every appetizer and entrée were pure perfection! I have never been a Salmon fan... but I LOVED their Salmon appetizer, and look forward to having it again! I don't remember what we all had, but EVERY dish was prepared to perfection and served with HEART!! It was our first time there, and we will definitely return. The bar definitely had plenty of TVs, so if you're sports person. You could easily catch a game while here. One of the Table tents, notified guest of a happy hour for oysters, which I'm not an oyster fan, but hey to each their own. Had to try out the clam chowder and it was one of the best clam chowder I've had quite some time. You could easily taste the clams at a really nice consistency not too thin, not too thick and I didn't even have to add any salt to it. It was just really tasty. When the clam trotter was delivered, I happened to look at what other plates were on the serving tray ready to go out in one of them happen to be this phenomenal salmon dish. I asked the gentleman what it was and he said it was his favorite dish on the menu, so of course had to try it the salmon dish absolutely out of this world the glaze on it side. It came with it. Everything just fit really well together and y'all that plate was clean by the time it went back. This place is definitely on my shortlist as I really would like to try some of their other plates again that salmon and the clam chowder really made an impression and highly rate this place if you're looking for a good seafood place in Austin. The vibe of the restaurant was laid-back, but also very open, clean setting clean lines plenty of light and they even had really clean restrooms. The staff also was very pleasant and friendly with every one I interacted with.
