Super quick pickup of a rental bike. Bike was in good shape, but the pedals they put on for me (SPD, not flats) needed some attention. I ended up tipping over because I couldn't unclip because they wouldn't release. Might skip or just bring my own pedals next time. The free rental gear (helmets and backpacks) are greatly appreciated - just check for sternum and waist straps - the first one they gave me had both broken. Free repair kit was unneeded but appreciated! Overall, very helpful staff. They patiently explained how to get to the nearby trails and even checked that seat height and dropper post were good. Definitely rent here again! read more

They seemed very confused about what inventory they had. After talking through 10 minutes of what bikes were available in their system for the five of us they realized they didn't have that stock for us. We accommodated and even changed plans to ride bikes another day. After another 15 minutes they realized they didn't have those bikes in the system. Overall one of the guys seemed very friendly and helpful. The manager (who was confused about his inventory) seemed to not really care. Perhaps they have had too many customers that were demanding and they felt like all customers were the same - we won't be customers at this bike shop and got a great experience down the street. Don't go here if you are okay with getting high bikes with a ruse experience. Will not recommend and when I come back with my friends - we will definitely not go to this shop. read more

We were in Sedona for a few days and my son's derailleur cable needed to be replaced. Guys at the shop were able to have it ready the next day where we found out they explained they had to remove the rear triangle. Worst customer service I've ever had. They towed or vehicle while we were on excursion. They gave us Mabs that were out of date we ended up wandering around in the mountains for days. If you want to go here do it but just be prepared to be lost in the wilderness. The only thing that saved us was we had an awesome guide. But the shop sucks. They are not helpful did I mention that they towed our vehicle after we got back from a five day trip that we spent over $5000 on. The bike they rented us broke twice. Nice people, bikes seemed in good shape; quality bikes. Our only complaint is they sent us out to die on the side of a big red mountain. We're cyclists but not mountain cyclists, though we had gone off road several times w no problems. We asked about easy rides for beginners and got directions, but no way these were beginner trails. We survived that day and did some on line searching for rides for newbies; found the easiest and got beat up again; had to cut the ride short. I suspect Sedona is that way; you need to know what you're doing, be heavily insured or sedated. The nice people at Thunder need to point this out. Just ask customers how much riding like this they've done and warn them, if necessary. It was a miserable day. To be fair, the manager offered our money back, which was classy. We didn't take it though. Hmmm, maybe that makes us classy too. read more

On my first visit to Sedona, my first ride I tried to do my myself it ended up being more of a hiker Trail. Then I want to buy over the edge bikes and the guys were awesome and describe him with the locals ride, including the magnificent Chuckwagon and Mescal trails. Because of the crew and over the edge, I was able to experience mountain bike Nirvana! Well done boys. read more

Highly recommended. Quality bikes and very reasonable prices. We rented mountain bikes for the day. Bikes were ready when we arrived. We were shown basic operation, provided maps of local trails, provided a tire patch kit and helmets are included. If you have a bike mount on your vehicle, or a truck, you have access to a lot more trails but there is also some good riding available right from the bike shop. We had a great experience with this shop during our visit to Sedona over Thanksgiving. I had my daughter's new bike shipped to them in advance of the trip, and they prepped it in time for us to ride our first day here. And after I snapped my brake lever off in a minor crash, they installed a replacement promptly so that I could get in a final ride on our last day here. The shop can be a bit hectic with their thriving rental bike business, but the mechanics still make an effort to be friendly and helpful. read more

Recent visit to Sedona for MTB Festival and was able to rent a great bike to try out on the red rocks. The guys there at the shop are great and very helpful. The shop is tiny but seems to have a lot to offer and a good selection of MTB to rent with brands like Evil, Santa Cruz and Intense you can get a super nice bike, usually. Joanna is that rare and magical combination of fun, keen, nurturing, and badass - and her biking fashion is on point. Even though I consider myself athletic, this was only my 5th time on a mountain bike, and I couldn't believe that we were going down ledges and Sedona slick rock after only 2 hours! By providing clear and concise technical instruction and gently pushing me beyond my comfort zone, Joanna helped me exceed my own expectations; I left our lesson a different rider than I was coming into it: confident on a bike, eager to go down more steps, and looking forward to riding on my own in Moab. A week later, I rode the beginner and intermediate trails at Deadhorse in Moab, tackling the technical sections with joy instead of fear. Staff were extremely helpful accommodating our last minute Thanksgiving week request including an XS woman's bike for my son. He ended up with a Trek Fuel EX7 full suspension bike that he loved. They also suggested nearby trails, as we did not bring a rack for our 4 rental bikes. The rental fee included a helmet, hydration pack, free toolkit, inner tube and pump along with $100 insurance for breakage. Unfortunately, I broke my dropper post lever but it was fully covered by this insurance. Finally if you are a beginner with little experience there is little within short riding of the store - you need to drive to Bell Tower or elsewhere read more

I love supporting these guys every time we fly to the area for work. So much patience and customer service to perfection is the norm. Today was a bit of a bummer on the customer service side. As I am a rental business owner myself, and understand that this is not a corporate place, and understand that a discounted up sell during the off season is a chance to make more money and a win/win, I was bumming when they didn't extend that courtesy. The shop closes at 6PM. We finished up a run just before 6 and called to check in and see if we could return the bikes right at 10AM when they open. No. Okay. I get you have to draw boundaries. We asked if we could extend the rental so we could get another ride in the AM before we had to leave. Only for a full day rental price. It is the off season. They aren't sold out, and some kind of discount would get them more money and provide customer service. So, if there is more day light and you want to get another epic ride in before the sun sets, you will have to pay for another full day rental. Bummer. They knew it was not a good move when they were silent at drop off. Not a single hello or how did the ride go. A few other small things happened. First ride for one of our friends, and they didn't have his size bike, so they stuck him on a bigger frame that prob would have resulted in not as good of an experience. When you have almost your full inventory not sold out late in the evening, upgrading to a better bike in a size that fits for the same price seems like an easy fix. They did let us when we suggested. Another party we were with took a spill right at the end. They let them drop off a little late. So that's good. I feel like having someone on site until an hour after your last rental is a good thing for flexibility. Maybe you charge a fee for the late return. That makes sense to me. Hopefully they don't get charged another full day. I don't think they will. Again, usually, they are on it. Just not today. You never know someone's story. Who knows. When you brag about a place and recruit people to support, it's deflating when it doesn't live up to past high expectations. I didn't leave a 1 star to support the normal effort. Mechanic was awesome. :) Epic views though. Awesome place. I hope they see this and come up with an off season/during the week rental extension for the AM at a reasonable price for a win/win. No one is perfect, you can't make everyone happy, and feedback can be used for improvement. I'm rooting for that! Beautiful beautiful bikes. read more

Attentive customer service with guys that live to ride and talk about riding. Decent pricing but didn't have cheaper priced bikes available so call ahead if you are needing the under $60 bikes. Great quality bikes. They have a buyout option so most bikes are all less then 6 months old. Awesome that they customize the suspension to your weight. Helped us find trails that fit our experience level. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is it would been nice if they had paper maps that they could have highlighted the trails they were recommending and how to get there. Just told us to download an App. It is called Trailforks. Which is a great App but get it before the guys give you suggestions :) read more

Friendly and informative staff, but if you rent a bike make sure to thoroughly check it before you leave. We rented an Ibis Ripmo and while riding in the parking lot the gears were ghosting. Turns out the chain was on backwards, which they changed out. Bike worked OK after that, but required some tweaking of the barrel adjuster to fine tune it. We also rented a kids Rocky Mountain Reaper that had a very loose front end. I tightened the headset on my own but the bad part is that the front axle had no threads and just kept slipping out. Suspension was also really slack but we did not have a shock pump with us to fine tune it. Pretty disappointing for what you pay and maybe dangerous for those not so familiar with bikes. Just make sure to get it right before you leave and don't assume everything is prepped correctly. read more

This was our second visit to Sedona, and on our first visit we rented mtn bikes for the day from Thunder Mountain Bikes. Staff was helpful and got us on our way in no time with bikes adjusted to our height, and included a repair kit in case we experienced a mechanical... 2 years later on our way to Grand Canyon trip we decided to add an extra day to have a layover in Sedona to explore more of the Mtn bike trail system Sedona has to offer. We knew right away that Thunder Mountain Bikes was the place we would rent our bikes from. Staff again were friendly and helpful and got us on our way promptly again. The ride didn't go according to planned as the seat kept slipping down on me, and had to stop at least 20 times to raise it and re-tighten seat post. I tightened it as best I could to the point I was nervous to breaking the seatpost bolt! So it was a tougher ride with the seat 3" too low. When we returned to the store at the end of the day to return the bikes, the staff asked how our ride went, we explained the issue. The staff apologized for what I experienced and that it would have affected my day, and offered me a full refund on my rental without me asking. This is 5 star customer service! Thanks Thunder Mountain Bikes. Despite my personal experience, I would not hesitate to recommend this bike shop. read more
