Hot Italian Beef (10"x14" Detroit Style). i'm not a fan, dry and flavorless . Just has a lot of cheese

Tried Thunderbird Pies in Dallas, TX recently and it was just OK for me. We ordered the Italian Beef pizza, and unfortunately it didn't really stand out. The meat was a bit dry and didn't have much flavor, and I wasn't a fan of the horseradish cream sauce on top. It just didn't work for me. The traditional sausage and pepperoni pizza was much better--simple and tasty. We also tried the buffalo wings, which were decent but nothing special. On the positive side, the service was good, and the place has a fun vibe with arcade games and plenty of seating, which makes it a cool spot to hang out with friends. Overall, I'd give it about a 6.5/10. Not a bad place, but not somewhere I'd rush back to either.

According to my last review it has been three years since we were here which is hard to believe since this is our favorite place for Detroit style pizza. We went on a Saturday evening for dinner. If it has been three years, the ambiance has not changed, nor has the physical layout. It still feels like a pizza joint. There are still arcade games for kids. There is still an ice cream parlor to the left of where you order pizza. In the past we liked their pizza of the month but this time it was Thanksgiving-themed with turkey and cranberry sauce. That did not sound too appetizing so we opted for a straight up pepperoni. The pepperoni are little cups of flavor. The crust is crunchy on the outside edge but light and chewy on the inside. It is perfection. The sauce is light and not acidic at all. We started with a cheese salad, not sure of the formal name, and it comes with lettuce, some cheese, Fresno peppers, tomatoes, and dressing. It was excellent and even the kid liked it. There is a modest selection of tap beers, only 4 or 5, but we found one we liked and it was perfect with the pizza. Service was fast and friendly. I don't think it was three years since our last visit, but if it was, we won't wait three years again.

Amazing Detroit style pizza. At first bite, you're met either a buttery, flavorful crust with delicious tomato sauce, herbs and crispy pepperoni cups. Ordered takeout via DoorDash and it wasn't a disappointment. They leave the pizza boxes open with your order so it doesn't mess with the integrity of your pizza being steamed. Love it! One of my top 3 spots for pizza in the DFW/Dallas area!

Thunderbird consistently delivers great deep dish pizza! Their service is great as they've always had our pickup orders ready on time! My only takeaway would be the garlic cheese bread, I wish it had more cheese and seasonings.

I have tried Cane Rosso and thought it was great! I have tried Zoli's and thought the same so when I saw Thunderbird Pies I knew I had to give it a shot and I am so glad I did. We stopped in and were impressed by how clean and organized the restaurant was. The delightful lady behind the counter was super helpful and patient as we went through the menu. We started with the Chopped Cheese salad which was a great choice. The salad had amazing house made croutons and also the always welcome sweety drop peppers which I would love more places to use. For pizza we had a Honey Bastard and a Drip Tray. The crust is what makes these pies amazing, it is rich and fluffy with an amazing crunch that I have not seen anywhere else in Dallas. Out of the two I felt like the Drip Tray was the better choice. The crust is so amazing that having the veggies on the pizza really allows the taste to open up, but both were great. The only problem in my entire experience is the fact that I don't live anywhere close! Even if you are in the burbs it is worth it to make the trip to Thunderbird.

Ordered ahead and it was ready when we got there. Not much on ambiance- it's very much a regular neighborhood pizza joint. It has some "video games" which makes it a bit retro. Staff was courteous and helpful. Pizza was hot. We had a Detroit style "drip pan" with Hot soppressata, sausage, roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions & peppers, tomato sauce. Nice cheesy caramelized crust edges. Delicious tomato sauce. Could have used more meat.

Came here late on a Sunday about 45 minutes before closing. The restaurant was completely empty and I ordered a large Luka Brassi for dine-in. We waited for about 25-30min before the cashier came up to us and let us know that they had forgotten to put our order in and were just starting to make the pizza now. They offered us free soft drinks while we waited which was very kind. He was very apologetic! Our food ended up coming out about five minutes after close but they were very kind and did not make us feel rushed as we ate. We still ate quickly and took some of it to go so as not to keep them there too late. The pizza itself was incredible. It had amazing flavor and I love the crunch of a Detroit style pizza. A large was more than enough for two adults to share. I am not sure if this was an error, but it looked like our pizza had sausage instead of meatball on top. Maybe this is just what their meatballs look like? Either way it was delicious so I couldn't complain. The restaurant was super cool inside and had some fun arcade games. I won't be holding the order mishap against them and will definitely be back to try more flavors and some ice cream next time.

Such good Detroit style pizza that makes you full after 2 slices! The crust is so crispy but also thick.

I love their pizza!! So good, I really like their pepperoni, hot honey, and jalapeño pizza. No long waits and lots of space inside.

I'd just driven down. It's after 8pm. And we have a hankering for Detroit style pizza. We shamefully showed up 15 minutes before closing. They were extremely courteous and helpful. They politely let us eat our meal waaaaay after closing time. The Budd is their original cheese. When trying a new pizza place we have to have the cheese pizza as a standard. Super crispy buttery edges and sweet tangy marinara sauce. Yum! We also tried their pizza of the month: General Tso's chicken and sauce with sesame seeds and Wisconsin brick cheese. On first bite, I laughed because it made me think it was the result what happens when a couple cannot decide if they want Chinese or pizza for dinner. Bam! You get General Tso's Detroit style pizza. It worked! The restaurant was clean and respect for the old school arcades!

Never really had Detroit style pizza before, was skeptical but they won me over, it was truly great. Perfect "cheese wall" perfect balance of toppings great light Sicilian style crust. Cheese blend was something called Bric cheese, low moisture mozzarella & white Cheddar. Delicious! Great service, nice ambiance.

I have to admit I am usually not a fan of Detroit style pizza too much dough for my liking. But Thunderbird has changed my mind at least for one pizza. Sausage pizza and the tomato basil were both amazing! Service was great the pizza was piping hot. Great place for families idea games outside seating and good parks

Where has Detroit style pizza been all my life?! I'm a huge fan of a good deep dish pizza and thunderbirds delivers every time! Their crust is perfection, the amount of toppings is never too much or too little and the pizza to sauce ratio is always on point. I tried them out on a whim. I was craving Chicago style pizza and had no idea where to go. I found Thunderbird on doordash and took a leap of faith. They did not disappoint. I like it so much that I actually get in my car and make the 25 min drive just to get a taste of it in its freshest form. Anyone that knows me knows I don't risk my life in Dallas traffic unless the food is LIKE THAT. I almost didn't want to post a review because I don't want anyone else to know about this place lol. So you're welcome!

Place it's booming. Now they got thin crust for you people watching your carb intake. Any pizza any size.

Ask the Community - Thunderbird Pies

Do they seriously burn their pizza that much?

David, No, they do not. As you may/may not know Detroit style pizzas are cooked in a pan and prepared with liberal amounts of cheese applied. This creates delicious, crispy (though not burned) edges on Thunderbird pizzas. Give them a try, you will…

It has a stylish, upscale feel that makes the dining experience feel a little more elevated. Now, the pizza! I love pizza, and I seriously cannot get enough of this place. The variety of gourmet-style pizzas is what keeps me coming back. They offer everything from breakfast-inspired flavors to savory dinner options and even dessert pizzas. Honestly, there wasn't a single pizza brought to our table that I didn't enjoy. Every time I thought I had found my favorite, another one came around! My only disappointment was the soft drinks. They are served by the can, and you're charged for each additional can rather than receiving complimentary refills. For the type of dining experience Delucca provides, I was a little surprised by that. That being said, the pizza absolutely overshadowed my disappointment with the way the soft drinks are served. The atmosphere, variety and overall quality of the pizza make Delucca a place I would gladly visit again. If you're a pizza lover and enjoy trying unique gourmet combinations, Delucca Gaucho Pizza & Wine is definitely worth experiencing.

I sent it back. Then I tried to order an elderberry cocktail and it tasted the same! Horrible bartender! We were not impressed with the pizza options. We did like the meatballs. The arugula salad was ok but nothing amazing. The lobster bisque was bland and pasty. I liked the chicken tikka masala pizza and the banana pizza. The guava pizza was interesting too. This location is really loud. Parking was ok. Bathrooms were ok. Highly over priced for what you get. You're paying for the novelty. I think the best customer for them are teenage birthday parties. That was what was taking up most of the tables. Not our favorite restaurant but ok.

The restaurant was probably 75% full and it was just 2 of us, so easy peasy. Amber(I really hope that's right) was a great waitresses. Side bar: I guess I'm just old, but I want a real menu, not a QR code to scan. We looked over the menu and decided on 2 small pizza to split. Fourmaggio, which almost always my go to if available at the pizza place, and the Potato and Pancetta. Both pizzas were great, but the Potato and Pancetta was the winner for us! Anyway, we weren't there for hats. We were there for pizza. First, a public service announcement. Figure out what you want before you walk in because the menu is only available through a QR code, and it is awful. You scroll. Then you scroll some more. Then somehow you're still scrolling. It feels less like ordering dinner and more like reading the terms and conditions for a mortgage. The two of us ordered a large pepperoni pizza, which turned out to be ambitious. We ate leftovers for days. Next time I'd definitely order the smaller size. My only real complaint about the pizza itself was the pepperoni. There was just TOO MUCH of it. Sure, I could have asked for "light pepperoni", but then I'd be paying full price for less topping, and that just goes against my personal philosophy. I'd love to see a "light pepperoni" option priced accordingly. ALSO not it is the good and greasy cupping pepperoni, kinda spicy. The pizza was also a little unevenly prepared. About half had a thicker crust while the other half was noticeably thinner. I definitely preferred the thinner side. Service was perfectly fine, the bathrooms were clean and nice, and the pizza was good overall. Just be prepared for the QR code marathon before you get to enjoy it.
