Ok. I don't gonna to sandwich shops often anymore. A few nights ago I had a chance to grab a solo dinner. Was chatting with kiddo on phone and she suggested Thundercloud. I went inside, ordered a Signature Club, double meat, on wheat with spicy mustard, lettuce, tomato, pepper, provolone and bacon. Best sandwich I have had in about 25 years! I enjoyed it so much, I'm back there right now having another Signature The Club sandwich. Best sandwich I have had in 7 days! This is a low key location, plenty of parking around back, really nice staff, it's clean and, as you may have guessed, I think they make great sandwiches. Try em out! read more

Gotta say I've been eating here since I was a child and idk who the guy with long hair and messed up teeth is but he's like 40 and was very rude. I ordered like the time they opened and I understand if there was misunderstanding as for when the order would be ready but I came to pick up but because I misunderstood what he said on the phone he was very rude to me when I went to the pick up window at 10:03. He COULD have just said oh sorry maam the order isn't ready yet but we will get it done for you real quick. I had a baby in the car but instead he made sure I knew I was wrong and tried to argue about when the food was supposed To be ready and just honestly I was in the service industry for many years and I know how a customer should be treated as a staff member you should always try to just make sure they have a good experience as YOU represent the whole company. Anyways love the sandwiches wish I could say the same about the hires. Also just to make a comment there is also a person here that is a man that has answered the pick up window in girl shorts and a crop top which is inappropriate in a normal setting but even worse when representing the company AT WORK I couldn't believe it and wish people just had to dress professionally. Not a bad sandwich. Our sandwich comparison comes from a California independent sandwich shop, Rock 'N' Jenny's, in the San Diego area. First off, seemed like waaaayyy too many questions just to individually customize each sandwich. Fine however, I wasn't expecting to spend the first minute of ordering time to answer a bunch of questions, so I inevitably forgot to order a drink after also ordering the good potato salad. I had to send the wife back to the counter. Lots of drive-up service at the outside window so the place was super busy. Love Thundercloud. Love Julie. I just had the rudest, most patronizing, most mind boggling interaction with a staff member I have ever had of my 50 yrs on earth. Here we go....verbatim. "Hey I need two large egg salads on wheat". As he is just finishing spreading the egg salad on the second sandwhich I am trying to be helpful and make his life easier and say "The first one only needs lettuce and cucumbers". That was my first mistake. "I'll ask you questions in a little bit ok I'm not done". Ok man. "Do you want lettuce, tomato or onion on the first one". "Just lettuce and cucumbers". "That's not what I asked. Do you want lettuce, tomato or onion on the first one". "Um, lettuce". "Do you want lettuce, tomato or onion on the second one". "Lettuce and onion". "Ok do you want American or provolone cheese on the first one". "Ummm, the first one (I pointed it it) just needs cucumbers and we are all done". "Use your words. Do you know how to use your words? And stop pointing at me like I am a four year old". "Hey man are you good?" "No. I am asking questions and you are being difficult. Do you want American or provolone on the first one?" At this point I am looking around like I am on candid camera. This proceeds with 2 more patronizing rounds of questions with zero acknowledgment that this is the wildest interaction ever. I pride myself on always, always trying to treat service folks with respect, and empathy. I get there is a process and I was willing to play along but to tell a grown man to "use your words. Can you use your words" is just wild af. I am not sure who is in charge of this location and I am more than happy to speak to you so you can determine that I come in peace. Not sure if this gentleman is neurodivergent, a psychopath or somewhere in between but y'all need to handle that situation. My husband and I live right down the road and we get their coupons frequently so this is our go-to thundercloud location. Never had any qualms or issues. Staff is always super friendly, outdoor seating is nice, appreciate the extra parking, and I always get their nada chicken and it's always bangin. Their cakes are pretty good too! I want to love this location so bad...but I simply can't. I'm surprised it's still open to be frank. I've had multiple issues with this location but will write solely on my last visit. Yes, I have ordered so many times you would think I'm mentally ill, every time, hoping "this time will be different..." I order a sub and chicken salad. You would think a chicken salad-salad would be bottom flat in a bag to preserve the contents of the salad. They decided it would be appropriate to place it on it's side. Once received and in my car I realized what the f*** actually happened. I could not (and did not) deal with customer service issues on this particular afternoon. It's like handing someone a pizza similarly to a bag of groceries. It doesn't make sense. All contents on the side of the plastic tray. Who does that?! Enjoyable for a pack of coyotes - maybe. If they like mass amounts of mayo, two pieces of chicken chunks and mediocre veggies. I wish Four Points would get it together and have other dining options available. I give this four stars because of the awesome smoothies these guys make. They all have not sugar but apple juice and a banana included. Worst Office Special EVER! My wife and I are full time travelers (originally from Austin) and we finally made it back in town after being gone a year. All she wanted was the great Office Special...which we ordered online for pick up. I recently moved away from Austin and am missing Thundercloud so much! I frequented this location almost on a weekly basis. I loved that they have online ordering so I'd order ahead and have a sub ready and waiting when I get there. For the longest time my sub of choice was the California Club but I fell real hard for the American Classic. Something about baloney on a sub reminds me of childhood. I add bacon too. Whatever your sub choice, this place is an Austin staple. Try it if you haven't already! read more

Just tried Thundercloud for the first time while in a visit to Austin. Really good subs at fair prices! We ordered online and picked them from the window so that made it SUPER easy as well. We had the NY Italian, the California Club, and the Turkish Delight (with cream cheese), some chips and an order of potato salad and it was only $20 for everything. I'm not a big fan of potato salad normally but theirs is very fresh and has great flavor. I wish they'd put a Thundercloud in Dallas! read more

Fresh, Fast, and Healthy! Its a simple atmosphere here. Nothing fancy a bit trashy, a bit dirty. Well the lunch rush just ended. I got the California Club. Its pretty darn tasty. Turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, provalone, mayo and thundersauce. I took a bite and got something crunchy.... It was the bacon. Wow! I love Thundercloud but have a complaint from my visit tonight. The guy in front of me at the walk-up, outside window had no mask on and was still getting service. There is a huge sign that says "Cover your face" in the window, along with the Texas ordinance to wear a mask. This guy was all up on the counter, leaning in to talk, yawning all wide.....no mask. The plastic partition does not cover the full widow, obviously. My complaint is, why was this guy not turned away? Why was he allowed to breathe and spread airborne particles all through that open window?? Very disappointed in one of my favorite sandwich places. read more

This is a decent neighborhood sandwich shop. That about sums it up, I've been there a few times and had their meatball, their Austin Club, Pastrami, and 'The Office' combo. It's a cut above Subway and yet manages to play in their price league; also it's a local chain staple with a kick-butt location so I'm glad to see it here. I can't say that it holds a candle to Austin standout Hoody's, let alone Jimmy Johns or Togo's, but I'd call it on a par with Jersey Mike's. The reason is that the subs are decent, but it's hard to praise beyond that. The cold subs are best as the bread, while good, doesn't have the moxie to hold up to heavy meat sauce. Also, I suspect that this location is slightly understaffed, as I've been in their especially slow moving lunch line more than once and their operations behind the counter look confused and haphazard. Average it out, and it gets 3 stars on the 'CTJ Scale' as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing on after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Yep, it's a Thundercloud. What I particularly like about this Austin-based chain is that wherever you go you pretty much get the same consistent experience--decent, reasonably priced food with quirky, generally multi-tattooed employees doing the assemblage. Here in moneyed, semi-swanky (seriously, you should see the HEB down the street--it's like a grocery store for millionaires) Lake Travis, it's no different. Last time I went, wall-to-wall classical music. Equally likely are metal or indie rock. I'm just glad I don't have to listen to canned, pre-programmed "secretary rock" and the employees can satisfy their musical whims. As for the food (oh yeah...the food), I always, as with the other locations, get the Office Favorite. Egg salad, bacon, cheese, mayo, spicy mustard, lettuce, salt and pepper. Not a damn thing wrong with that. Always consistent. It ain't 5-star Michelin Guide good, but you know what--I'm not looking for that from a $5 sandwich. What I am looking for--and just always receive from this and other Thundercloud locations--is good, friendly, quick service and an excellent sandwich. 'Nuff said. read more

Your sandwiches are fresh and creative, and have more piled on than the generic ones at Subway across the intersection. Your employees are friendly, fast, and interesting in the Central Austin way that I've come to miss so badly, living out here in South Dallas. I like seeing tattoos, dreads, scarves, and lots of earrings, and listening to music that wasn't spawned in the Muzak offices. I even like your rock building, with the patio and extra parking out back. I like the way your company supports Austin by sponsoring events like the Turkey Trot 5-mile run. My experience was with unprofessional employees with questionable hygiene, and a sandwich that just wasn't as tasty as it looked on the menu. Also, the portions were tiny for me (if I order a large sandwich, I want a big sandwich.) And what I ended up with was an expensive snack. I came to Thundercloud with a group of friends for lunch one day. It was my first time at Thundercloud and on walking in it seemed very Austin. I think they took a page out of the Kerbey Lane play book and hire people who don't quite fit the image of "normal." The staff was super friendly and helpful with asking what I wanted on my sandwich. I got the NY Italian since that seems to be my sandwich of choice regardless of where I go. It was pretty good but nothing great. I'm still working out the kinks on what I like on my italian style sub. I enjoyed the fact that it was much cheaper than most of the sub chains around (Jersey Mike's, Quizno's, Delaware). I can't really think of much else to say, but I do have to echo Scuba's statement that its good but not groin-grabbingly good. This is by far my favorite sandwich place to go when I'm hungry and in need of a smoothie. Today I went to get lunch for me and my fiancé and the guy behind the counter was beyond nice. He made sure to ask how I was and had a nice conversation with me! He noticed I was ordering two sandwiches for my fiancé, and when I got home I realized he wrote "his :)" and "hers:)" on them so I could tell who's sandwich is who's. I don't understand the negativity in other reviews about this place. (Well, I do understand about unclean food, but that hasn't been my experience with this one) This is one of the few local eateries near my office and like other Thunderclouds the food is good. It's not groin-grabbingly good, but it's a good place to grab a quick sandwich. It's true that if all things were equal, I'd give preference to a local place over a chain, but that also makes the atmosphere better. Considering the only other option in this general area is Subway, I'll take T-cloud for all my lunchtime sammich needs. read more

These restaurants are so ubiquitous that I assumed they were good, and I thought I must have just ordered the wrong thing on my first visit (downtown location), so I tried Thundercloud again. This location was appealing due to its cool sign and its pleasant back patio. The sandwich I got just wasn't that great, and it wasn't that cheap (over $6). I tried the Austin Club, which wasn't bad, but the guac had no flavor. There really wasn't that much lunchmeat on the sandwich either. Online, the menu says that sandwich has bacon, but mine didn't. Maybe that would have helped. The bread was fresh, but not that tasty. I might try eating here again, but only if I'm really really hungry and happen to be right there and everywhere else is closed. This location does have online ordering, which is neat, but since I didn't really like the food much, I probably won't take advantage of that amenity. read more
