My last review was in 2020--man was that a tough year for everyone! Since then, I've been back numerous times, especially since we get a BOGO coupon in the local paper. I'm happy to report that we haven't had a repeat of our 2020 experience. Over the last two years, we've only had great visits. Thundercloud has been our go-to quick, easy, grab & go meal for years and it never disappoints! (Literally went to a location down south after the alter in 2005). There are plenty of seats inside and outdoors. The staff are cool and friendly, their service is pretty quick (we mostly take advantage of their drive-thru). Their bread is not the best bread, let me tell you that, but overall their sandwiches just hit it for us. It gives me the old school sandwich vibe, and I like it. Our favorites are Office's favorite (egg sandwich), I'm not sure if it got its name because many Thundercloud employees love to order it or it's meant in a sarcastic way because no one in the office likes it when you bring boiled eggs for lunch (fish is even worse ). We also like their California club, and Turkish Delight. All in all, we love this place, any location is consistent and the flavors are on lock. Great great place with a crazy nice owner. We ordered catering online for a function and when we stopped by in the morning, everything was ready and delicious. Even though it was bitterly cold and raining that morning (it was during Austin's last cold freeze in January of 2024), the owner was incredibly cheerful and hooked it up with all the sides / sauces. Had a school fundraiser coupon to this location only so decided to stop by and redeem it and get my fave egg salad sub. Once entering we noticed workers were masked. Patrons were socially distanced. They took our order and was prompt and efficient. Kind. Workers looked like students but knew what they were doing. They messed up with the coupon though but got it corrected right away and was apologetic. They did our subs well. Delicious! Roast beef and cali turkey. As I was ordering my sandwich the man at the drive thru with long hair and a full face mask makes a comment saying "you sure are loading up on the toppings aren't you". In disbelief I asked excuse me what did you say & he proceeded to repeat it again saying I'm ordering so many toppings. I order this same sandwich often and have never had such a terrible service experience. Why was that unnecessary comment given unprovoked? Wow. I've been going to Thundercloud subs since 1995 when I first landed in Austin. Lots of great sandwiches consumed. I just picked up a couple of mediocre sandwiches from the Pflugerville location. It was poor enough that I checked to see if the company had been bought. No such luck. The feedback...the bread (whole wheel) has changed to be a tasteless mealy bread. Great sandwich. Soft bread. Pleasant staff. Can't go wrong with a quick lunch here. It's in a small shopping center with a gas station. They do have a decent parking lot area on the side. A few tables outside. Just happened to be a nice day, so I sat outside to eat. About the sandwich, like I said, the bread is soft. I ordered a turkey sandwich with mustard, American cheese, comes with shredded iceberg lettuce and tomato. I added avocado for an extra fee. I have had these guys sandwiches when flying out of AUS airport and always enjoyed them. This location is on the complete opposite side of town from us but since we were near downtown today we decided to give them a try. I ordered the New Yorker and my wife ordered the Turkey sandwich dressed. I really liked mine and would have loved it if it had just a little more mayo on it. My wife did not care for the shredded lettuce on her sandwich and when she pulled it off you could tell it had seen better days. She said it was very good once that was removed. Went to Thundercloud Subs in Pflugerville last week. A young man named Drew showed us the lay of the land. My first impression was that he knew what he was doing and that he genuinely wanted us to have a pleasant experience! My husband had a California sub. He loved it. I'm a bit (lot)) more high maintenance. Drew listened to everything I asked for and perfectly prepared my sub. He asked if we wanted to eat in or to take it home. When I said I wanted it to go, Drew smiled and told me that the restaurant was closing in 1 minute anyway! He had treated us like we had come in at noon...not like we would make him late! I've been here several times since it's right next door to where I live... and so it's time for a review! The review is mainly due to the employees because I always have great customer service when I'm here. Sometimes I order inside and sometimes I order outside (it's so awesome that they have a drive-thru!) and every time they are very detailed about my order and are always really friendly. Thundercloud Subs definitely has an Austin vibe to it. The food is always fresh...I normally order their veggie sub with the hummus and sprouts which is very good and not heavy at all. Or a salad. I like their carrot cake, too ;) The only negative is that their intercom in the drive-thru kind of sucks...So sometimes I have to repeat what I'm ordering several times lol read more

Hands down, the best local sandwich joint in town. Straight up. IDK why people even go to Subway. Bleh. No yoga-mat breads here, let me tell ya. I've been a fan of Thundercloud for years, and bounce from the RR to PV locations, and have yet to be disapointed. Every employee that Ive come across has the best attitude, and give the best Austin-vibe to the shop. My favorite sandwich is the California Club. Despite not really being a fan of many things "Cali", it is the best sammy. Avocado, bacon, turkey.. get it on wheat, with Thundersauce, spicy mustard and the veggie fixins.. You'll be hooked. We called in an order over the phone. The woman helping me was very thorough and friendly and I was pretty confident our order would be correct! Unfortunately when I got home, our sandwiches were made completely wrong. I also had walked in during a time where they were shift changing so I think they were unaware that I was standing there to pick up an order, so I was waiting a little longer than I should have, which didn't bother me at all. They were still nice enough to give me a drink on the house which was not necessary but very much appreciated! The girl today who made my orders was incredibly rude. She was unfriendly and acted as if I was wasting her time and an inconvenience. Not only that, the sandwiches were subpar. My girlfriend always gets the Italian with sweet peppers and there were literally three on her sandwich. The rest of the toppings were also slumped on but for some reason this girl felt the need to supply us with an over abundance of mayo and mustard. The final note is the lemonade and the soda fountain were both out of syrup. My girlfriends lemonade was just pink dyed water and my soda was just carbonated water with a hint of sweetness... not appetizing. So we started coming here shortly after the pandemic hit because we had had it with the Round Rock location. We had repeatedly been let down by the RR location. We would show up and be told there was no wheat bread. Most of the time it was that there was no large wheat and they couldn't substitute two small whites for the large wheat. We do order sandwiches every Sunday evening so I get it that there can be a common element of potentially running out of bread before the beginning of a new week. The way the locations handle it is the difference. Anyway, this Grand Avenue, Pflugerville, location has yet to let us down. The staff is always very polite and if they run out of large wheat they CALL US ahead of time. I have to admit that the fact that they have a drive through is a plus and they encourage the use of the drive through after a certain time of day. The sandwiches here are always well made with fresh ingredients and they nine times out of 10 have large wheat bread in stock. The one time out of 10 that they do not have large wheat bread they at least have large white. The main thing is THEY TAKE THE TIME TO PICK UP THE PHONE TO LET US KNOW. I don't exactly know the management structure of this company but if it is different managers at different locations this is critical! My husband and I used to own a business and we felt that customer service and customer communication were critical aspects of running a business. My hat is off to the manager of this location. I see no other explanation for such vastly different ways for employees handling the very same situation. read more

I've been going to various Thundercloud locations for years, and it's probably my favorite sub shop chain of all time. Helpful, cheerful service, consistently fantastic food, generous vegetarian options, great prices, with a sense of humor. Of the veg options, definitely go for the Veggie Delight - it looks simple, and it is, but it's FREAKIN' DELICIOUS. It doesn't come with cheese, though, so if you want to add some you'll need to ask for it. They're also one of the only sandwich shops that still carries sprouts, which is a major plus. The egg salad is also wonderful. If you're in the mood for something even more straightforward, they have hummus and avocado options ( The Nada Chicken is also a charming veg option, although it's my least favorite of the bunch since they use a pretty generic Morningstar fried chicken patty. All the veg options except the Nada Chicken are also less than $6 for a large, which is pretty kick-ass, too. Atmosphere is pretty standard sandwich shop, with the addition of some great Austin photos on the walls and quirky tip jars. This location isn't as funky as some others, but I get the impression it's probably newer than most. Hopefully it'll come into its own a bit more over time as they get comfy. read more

This Thundercloud is very near my school in a shopping center that includes an Anytime Fitness and a gas station. It is across the street from Graham's Central Station and a nail place. In other words, there aren't many eating choices in this neck of the woods. On our professional development days, the ladies and I are always looking for a healthy, inexpensive, quick place to eat. Thundercloud fits all of these criteria. My friend and I ate lunch here last Tuesday. I had only been to the drive through previously. The woman who took my order was very friendly. I ordered the veggie sandwich and the green chili/ corn soup. Both were fresh and delicious. Much better than your average fast food. The interior was clean and bright.
