Cute little cash only restaurant. The place is small, quaint, and cozy with great decor. It's nice to be in a small independent restaurant in contrast the large restaurants that can get super noisy with their high ceilings. Then until you get someone at the next table over to you who's conversation is overly loud and breaks your concentration in your own conversation at every turn. Then you wish the restaurant was loud to drown them out. But that's not the restaurant's fault. I really waned to try this place to expand into a new cuisine. We split the Tibetan salad as an appetizer. It's a great way to start the meal and get a taste of flavors from a dish that you're used to but is presented in a completely different way. I opted to order a meat dish. Again, I was not disappointed and really enjoyed the shaptak. I love spicy food and this was not heat without the flavor. Finally, and probably a result of the cash only, the bill is very low. This is a great way to go out, treat yourself to unique food, and not leave a hole burning in your pocket. This is place is such a breath of fresh air. I'm always on a lookout for new and interesting places to eat. I came here with some family who wanted to try this place. It's a very small place and very cozy. There weren't too many people when we went though I had heard it can get very crowded. They only take cash and it appears they don't have too many staff as the wait time was a bit longer than what I normally expect. However, the food is very good. Honestly, I am stunned at how many good reviews this place has gotten. The service is terrible, the food is okay to decent, and the prices are absolutely ridiculous. $3.00 for iced tea that's clearly made from a Lipton tea bag and served in a small glass?! And no free refills? Come ON. I felt like this place is trying to just make money and is not about providing an enjoyable dining experience. First, the hostess/waitress didn't greet us, ever say hello, or even introduce herself. She just walked up 2 minutes after we sat down and asked if we decided. When we asked for more time, she seemed irritated. My partner and I ordered the steamed dumplings as an appetizer. We were warned it would take 15 minutes, but we were fine because we like to talk and take our time with dinner. We also ordered a noodle dish with pork and a spicy beef dish with steamed bread. Our entrees came out before the appetizer, and the portion sizes were bizarre. I had a plate heaped with noodles and not much veg/meat, and my partner had a tiny portion of beef ($14 dish, by the way). The meat on both of our dishes was awfully overlooked and had the texture of leather. The pork in mine was sliced to tiny little strings and there was very little of it. I basically paid ~$12 for a pile of noodles. The dumplings were decent, but improperly stuffed with a watery filling and they had no topping or dipping sauce. The fact they thought to sell that dish as an entree is hilarious. There are much better restaurants around with more affordable prices and better service. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

13 of us rolled through the door, no reservation right when they opened at 11am and they didn't blink an eye-just started pushing tables together. Despite our large number orders were efficiently taken and soon the kitchen was pushing out appetizers amd food. Everything was DELICIOUS! although I would recommend keeping a menu on hand as they refer to their dishes by number (v-5, B-7, etc) and I couldn't remember what I ordered. A few got steamed bread which everyone oohed and awed over. Bowls of soup were huge and the pan fried dumplings had a great sear and soft steaming middle of potatoes and veggies. We had dinner here for the first time last Friday and we will be back. It's a little cozy restaurant with not too many tables. Cash only. We were there around 8:15pm and it was pretty packed. Luckily there was only two of us so we were able to sneak into a table behind a big group. My husband ordered the sweet potato, tofu soup. It had a nice ginger flavor and really delicious. Be careful the soups come out piping hot, you might have to let it cool down so you don't burn your tongue. We tried the pan fried momos and the sheptak (beef with peppers and onions). Both were yummy. Prices were reasonable, we will definitely be back to try some more dishes. read more

Good food at reasonable prices. This restaurant has character. Lots of vegetarian and meat options. I think the vegetarian dumplings are my favorite, but the chicken and pork were good too. The tofu in the vegetarian dishes was well cooked. The restaurant sells beer and wine, but no hard liquor. You could also pick up a Tibetan singing bowl or a dharma wheel wall hanging while you're there (look behind the cash register near the bathroom for their selection of goods). My only word of caution is that the dining room is really small (maybe 10 tables?). The waitstaff does a good job of turning tables over quickly, but don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. read more

The food was terrific, I had fried pork dumplings and the stir fry beef w steamed bread, which was interesting, and there was enough for me to take home for another meal. We stumbled upon this place and checked it out of curiosity.. It is a small but cozy and calming place. We tried Avocado salad, Churu Siben with Steamed bread for starters and had V1.Noodles, V3.Himalayan Potato with flat bread, N8.Sha-Kodak (Chicken).. and they all tasted great! Food taste had strong influence of Indian taste! Will go again.. It is a cash only place! just be aware of that! read more

My wife and I tried this place with friends for the first time and really enjoyed it. It's pretty far down Main Street in Middletown and can easily be passed by. The inside is small (read intimate) and tables are close together. Like many similar restaurants, there are many variations on the same dish -chicken, tofu, or steak with a few different sauces. You can customize the spiciness of the dish on a scale of 1 to 10 (quite the range). A 7 was what I would deem medium to mild, but I often have spicy food. The steamed bread was really unique and worth a try. The fry bread was similar to a tortilla. We will go back and try for a little more spice! read more

BIG TIME fan of Tibetan food and culture, and Tibetan eateries are hard to come by. Really enjoyed it here. Get the vegetarian dumplings. Wish they had butter tea when I was there, though. When you walk in to this little restaurant, the smell of spices immediately hits you and the atmosphere is calming. Felt very relaxed once seated. The interior, except for one small panel on a high, hardly noticeable wall which was not finished being painted, is very beautiful. We went at about 8pm on a Thursday - only one other table was taken. Waitress was polite and seated us quickly. We had pan fried bread to start, which comes with a spicy sauce and a dish of red flakes. The spicy sauce is good, and I hate spicy things! It's less pain and more flavor. It was very good with the bread. The flakes were more salty with a little kick. Very tasty. Ordered pork momo for dinner - the meat was a bit bland, but the doughy wrapper and the soy sauce provided made them savory and delicious. The momo also came with a sauerkraut-looking salad with a sour and savory taste. It complemented the momo well and was good. My father dined with me as well and he got a kind of noodle soup with chicken and steamed bread on the side. He cleared his plate. Overall - unique and tasty food, calming atmosphere, very reasonable price. Our food came quickly, but do remember we were the only diners there at the time. We will be taking our other 2 family members next time. If you like Asian fare and want to eat something unique, fresh, and new, I wholly recommend Tibetan Kitchen. read more

New place just opened. :) 3.5 stars really! A group of four friends and myself came in today for lunch with high expectations. The place is tiny, but clean, bright, and with a friendly waiter/owner. We decided on various dumplings, a thukpa noodle dish, salads, and a stir-fry dish. The wait was longer than expected, around half an hour, so we were very hungry when everything arrived. The Himalayan ze-nom salad was REALLY good - well spiced and with a variety of vegetables. The Avocado salad was interesting, but a little skimpy on portions. I would order it again occasionally. The dumplings were OK... a combination of small portions and only average taste made us underwhelmed. The thukpa seemed like it was made with spaghetti noodles rather than asian noodles, but the broth was flavorful, if lacking in salt (soy sauce cured that!). Finally, a friend's stir-fried dish that came with 2 pieces of tingmo bread was good, but again, skimpy In general, good food, portions a little small, but ok. Another rare find. Tibetans serving wholesome food topped with a whole lot of love. I had the Lentil soup and the Mok-tha dumpling soup (I am a soup fiend because it is the hallmark of great cooking). Both were exquisite. The dumplings were carefully folded to look like heather leaves, the broth delicate but delicious, and it came topped with a generous portion of spinach and fresh cruncy carrots. They would be front cover of the style/food section of the ny times if they were in Brooklyn or South Manhattan. The highest compliment I can pay though is to say the service was excellent. I think I found the lost city of Shangri-La, and it's in Middletown, CT. While in the area with friends, the inevitable question arose: "Where are we getting lunch?". A quick browse through Yelp of nearby offerings, and we settled on something we had never tried before: Tibetan / Himalayan food. The first thing we noticed was that this place was *small*. I mean seriously, really small. As far as we could tell, there was only enough seating for maybe ~40 in the entire restaurant, which kind of complicated things since we had a group of about 9 during the lunch rush. The staff was very accommodating, however, and we were seated within 10 minutes. The menu is fairly extensive, with plenty of options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike, and they'll cater to your level of spiciness desired (more on that later). Also, bring cash - there's no credit cards here. The food was incredible. I ordered Sha-Khodhak, extra spicy - it's a meat dish in a tomato based sauce, cooked with peppers and served with steamed bread; it tasted like a hybridization of Indian, Chinese, and Thai cuisine, all combined into some sort of super-food, and exploding with flavor. Best yet, they actually listened to me when I said "extra spicy", the dish had enough heat to make some of my friends concerned about my decision. The steamed bread was a perfect accompaniment to the dish, perfect for sopping up the leftover sauce on the plate. I tried various appetizers at the table, as well as a few tastes of some friend's dishes - everything was downright impressive, and had me yearning to try more. Portion sizes weren't huge, but weren't small either - more than enough to fill a person up, and not too bad considering the price is pretty low. Most dishes were under $14 or so. I really want - no, NEED, to go back here. It's been about a week since I've had the food from here, and the desire for more delicious Tibetan food is still on the minds of both my friends and I. I would highly recommend this place. They were extremely accommodating and friendly, and the food was excellent. If you want to have a small, intimate function with your friends or a quiet dinner, it's the perfect place on the price-performance curve. I wanted to have my 30th birthday party with a small group of friends and family (20 people). Although they had no buffet menu, they were communicative with us by e-mail and phone, and they provided us with a price per head buffet. My friends and family all loved the food. Excellent food!!! Service was a little slow but only because it was Friday night and very busy...but still went well with the relaxing and casual environment. I ordered the spicy shrimp dish and it was excellent. DEFINITELY recommend the steamed bread option to the rice as a side. We didn't stay too long because there was a long line of people waiting for our table but cant wait to come back when it's less busy and sample other things.
