We went for lunch on a Friday. The patio was well visited, although most of the diners already had their food. The waiter walked right past us TWICE when he took the order of the group next to us. Finally he stopped by about 5 minutes later and took our drink orders. I passed on the expensive wine and bottled beer and opted for water. Our food took 20 minutes to arrive and both entres were not hot. I had spaghetti bolognese for $12.50. It was barely warm. It didn't come with any bread or extra parmesan or anything. I had to ask for a spoon. It didn't come so my husband went inside to ask for a spoon and got a snarky response from the other waiter/manager. Something about it not being Italy. My water never refilled, although my glass was empty and when the waiter asked if I wanted any wine, after I had checked the list, I said, just water. Rarely do we leave a bad tip, but left $1 for the waiter this time. Will not return. The prices are very unreasonable and the service was horrible. read more

Tonight will be our second visit to Ticino's in three days, because our first visit was fantastic and we are all excited to return. It is a bit tough to find, but once you find the building you can go in almost any outer door into the central hallway, then wind your way to the back and find Ticino's. We were greeted at the door by one of the owners, Carlo, and he was very attentive during our 15 minute wait. It's a small place and they do take reservations, which I'd suggest. We thought it worth the wait because of the Yelp reviews, and boy were they right! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready with suggestions. The pastas and pizza dough are made fresh daily, the wine choice was great, and the salads were beautiful. We had the Giardino salad (fabulous) and pappardelle la rosa with grilled chicken (perfect!). We will have to order both of those tonight, but I think we'll also get the Salmone ai Ferri as the one at the next table looked amazing! Delicious! So glad I found this thanks to Yelp. The restaurant is extremely authentic yet casual, you will be greeted by the owner, an Italian man. The food is DELICIOUS. We started with the baked asiago which was probably the best. Also ordered the spinach salad, mushroom pizza, and gnocchi with olive oil and cheese... All of which were amazing! Make a reservation! Bear in mind that I have been pretty spoiled with really good pizza in my day. Compared to the other pizza joints I've tried in the Vail Valley this place is good. Their thin, cracker crust is very well executed although the sauce was rather bland and the tomatoes used for the topping were very disappointing. Came here when we skiied in Beaver Creek and it was so good we came back a second time during a trip to Vail. It is the best Italian food I've had since moving from Chicago to Colorado and I would rate it as good as many Italian restaurants in Chicago as well. The pasta is homemade and all the sauces are as well. Portions are huge but the food is so good you will want to try to finish all of it! I've had chicken parm, fettuccine with meatballs with la Rosa sauce and my husband has tried the pizza and lasagna. Everything is prepared fresh and delicious. Food is amazing! The owner, Sasha, was behind the bar and provided great insights on the food as well as the local venue. Sasha is into skiing and had great advice for attacking the hills. I went with the osso bucco and it was amazing. Tender with great marrow (the best part), the accompanying veggies and polenta were also great. This little Italian gem is tucked away in a very unexpected spot, but it's worth the effort to find it! It's on the main floor of an unassuming condo building, but once you step through the doors, you are in a charming eatery with wooden beams overhead, artistic glass light fixtures, and fresh flowers on the bar. It's classy and intimate, but welcoming and not uptight. After spending time in Italy a few years ago, we have been ruined on mediocre Italian food and are always in search of authentic Italian flavor and fresh made pasta. Ticino didn't disappoint! We started with the cheesy garlic bread...hit the spot! We then shared the lasagna and the gnocchi in the pesto cream sauce. Oh, the gnocchi! It was the perfect consistency, little pillows of pasta, and the pesto cream sauce was flavorful and creamy but not overpowering. It was a great pairing and I will definitely be ordering the gnocchi with pesto cream sauce again! The lasagna was also good, a huge portion, with a good cheese to meat ratio and a drizzle of pesto on top. I like that they allow you to create your own pasta dish, choosing a pasta, a sauce, and the option to add a protein. The chicken parmigiana looked fabulous and it's on my list to try with spaghetti and the rosa sauce on our next visit. The only thing that I was missing from our time in Italy was some fried zucchini flowers and the abundant carafes of cheap but delicious house wines. The service was attentive and friendly. It was chilly, so we ate in the dining room, but there is also a quaint little patio lined with colorful flower boxes to enjoy the beautiful weather Vail valley is known for in the summer! The actual restaurant is in the back of the place, which might be a little weird at first since you walk in expecting a restaurant. We ate lunch on a weekday starting at 1:15 pm so the place was half-empty and the service was good. The mushroom pizza was appreciated by all four of us. Salade Nicoise was a little unusual (spinach-based) but the tuna was good. We went here for my son's 21st birthday. We did not have a reservation, (didn't know we had to have one-however I recommend you make one) we walked in an the owner greeted us. We were able to sit at the bar and have a lovely dinner. I do not like to sit at bars and have dinner but it was very personal even sitting at the bar. We were able to have conversation with the owner and the owners son and our waiter. Our waiter was a look a like to the owners son :) i guess that is what the locals say. I am sorry i have forgotten their names. You wont miss the young men as soon as you walk through the door. So we sat at the bar had dinner and there were alot of regulars that came in as we were sitting have dinner. Talked to a few people while we had dinner and realized this was definitely a very nice homey feeling. They welcomed everyone the same. It was my sons 21st birthday and the owner gave him a piece of their homemade Amaterasu, it was absolutely delicious. I got the fettuccine with no chicken and my son got it with chicken, it was amazing. I recommend this restaurant. We will be back when we come back to Avon next year. A nice little gem within walking distance of the Comfort Inn and the Sheraton. The pizza with Gorgonzola and spinach was a real treat, and it's certainly a nicer alternative for dinner than Bob's. If we were to stay in Avon again, we would stop by Bob's for a drink before dinner and then have a nice, reasonably priced dinner at Ticino. read more

My son and I love Ticino. Absolutely love it. We come here every year. If you didn't know about it, it's really easy to miss as it's a tiny place in a little shopping mall (the same mall as Bob's which is definitely not on our list). The food is fantastic every time. My son always gets a pasta with bolognese (as he did tonight). It's his favorite bolognese anywhere. I usually get some kind of pasta and tonight it was the meat lasagna. It was so good.
