We are here in SD for the weekend and stayed at Paradise Point. We don't want to go out of the area, so we checked Tidal. They were fully booked earlier but Taylor accommodated us and we were able to get a table earlier than expected. We had a great experience dining at Tidal, the staff are very attentive and friendly. All of us enjoyed our food, very reasonable prices and very delicious. I had the sea bass with risotto, and it was perfect! The risotto is perfectly cooked. Ambiance is great with the marina at the background. The only thing I will recommend is not to put dry ice in the main tai coz I didn't get enough of the drink itself hehehe. read more

We ate here on a girls' trip this past weekend. We had a great experience - it was fun sitting outside by the water (thankful for the heat lamps!), and our server was an absolute delight (though I sadly cannot recall her name). The food was good, but not great. We expected it to be a bit more impressive for the price. Tidal is located on the same gorgeous property called Paradise Point Resort & Spa! We didnt want to drive anywhere and the menu was a mixture of Hawaiian/seafood and coastal flair. Everything we read looked delicious and perfect for what we wanted to eat. Andrew was our waiter and he was great the entire time! He recommended the Grilled SEABASS filet at first but, I wanted the entire fish. I just forgot to request if they could fry the fish instead.. So I can also enjoy eating the eye... Lol! It was delicious, lots of bones in there but, Its a delicatesen of taking your time and enjoying every piece of the fish and the sauce on it, Ohh gosh! Was amazing He also recommended our appetizer which was the hee (Octopus). Our first time eating octopus and Happy with the result! Its a must, have to try it at least once. We stayed at paradise point for the entire Thanksgiving week. Tidal was the first nights dinner choice, it did not disappoint. Family ordered steaks, I the sea bass, both were very good. I really thought my sea bass, on a mushroom risotto, was excellent. Wait staff were attentive and helpful. We also reserved a room for our family Thanksgiving a few days latter. The menu was a large buffet of prime rib, turkey, stuffing, Mac&cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and various salads and vegetables. Deserts were also plentiful and diverse, the lemon tart, was my favorite. The buffet was just about all you would expect for your thanksgiving dinner and then some. Our family really enjoyed the dining experience. Would highly recommend you consider Tidal for your next dining adventure. read more

Stayed at the resort Paradise Point which is like a private island and it has just a couple restaurants that are within walking distance from your "bungalows" and tidal is one of them. Did a bit of research before eating here, as we only had 2 nights to stay here and wanted the best of the best. They have a different menu for each day of the week which is fun but also nerve racking that you have to like whatever is on the menu that day. When we stayed "Bbq pitmaster night" was the theme for the day. Normally I do not like BBQ food and especially for a nice restaurant I was surprised it was even an option. I have to say I am so pleasantly surprised. The staff is incredibly nice and the smokers /chefs really know what they're doing! We decided after this trip we would make it an Anual trip and come to this restaurant EVERY time. read more

One of the worst dining experiences I went through. 1- the menu was preset at $46/person (excluding drinks), included starters, small sides, a choice of main entree (scallops, sirloin steak, cauliflower steak, and another option), and dessert. The best item that I think deserves this star is the bread and the purée it came with. The salad and small sides were not appealing and we couldn't eat them. We ordered the scallops and the steak. The first plate had only 3 small scallops that had a fishy aftertaste. The steak was huge, not great, not horrible, but was soaked in some juice, which was very weird to me. The dessert was also very average, lime pie I believe but it was filled with whipped cream, which made it intolerable. 2- service and the live music were ok 3- the view was very nice especially when the sun was setting down read more

This doesn't look like much on the outside but on the inside.... that's where it is! My boyfriend took me out here for a late Valentine's Dinner and I'm a sucker for the beach and sunsets and this had both. The menu had enough options that we were able to decide from! We ordered the adobo brined jidori chicken and the 7oz steak daily butcher's cut of the day! Both were delicious and well cooked! As a side, I must recommend getting the red rice! It was so flavorful and light! The taro leaves that came with the chicken dish were delicious and that is definitely a meal I would have again here! Tidal is located within the romantic Paradise Point Resort on Vacation Isle, a bit north of SeaWorld. If you've lived in San Diego for a while, and not visited and walked around Vacation Isle on a Summer evening then IMHO you can't actually say you really "know" San Diego. This location is a real treat--with free parking (wow!). That said Tidal is one of a few restaurants within the resort and boasts a pretty decent menu of gluten-free and coconut focused foods. We really enjoyed the WOOD ROASTED VENUS CLAMS 'KADUN PIKA' and LAVA SALT CRUST DIVER SCALLOPS, which were just as tasty and unique as the naming of their dishes. The staff was attentive and cheerful, and the food was served nicely without a terribly long delay. As prices go, I felt I got what I paid for, though my wife and I were a bit miffed by the "surcharge" which a number "this owner's" restaurants charge as a result of.. (STOP - almost got me going into politics...). Suffice it say, if you are looking for a romantic evening in San Diego, with an opportunity for a pleasant after-meal walk, away from the noise of Downtown, I suggest visiting the Tidal some fine pre-sunset evening. read more

This place is a gem. It seems that they rely on tourism and that's too bad bc if locals knew about it, it would be full ALL the time. This is a wonderful restaurant with live music, great views and chill setting. The service was percy and though I was surprised by the Pre-fixed menu, it did not disappoint. Entree selection with something everyone can find satisfying and expertly prepared. We chose the pan seared halibut and braised beef short rib - DIVINE Salad with fresh CLEAN shrimp atop and a light vinaigrette. Desert sounded nice, but wasn't a highlight. Cocktails were lovely, my overly sweet and had just the right balance. Whether your a local or a tourist, this place should be tried. Spread the word! read more

I just ate at Tidal and realized I'd been in here in 2016. Tidal has not improved much. They still tack on an automatic 6% to every charge. At least now, they have fine print on the menu, in light blue clearly to make it hard to see. WTF? Just add the 6% to the menu price!!! Tidal's explanation is they need to pay minimum wage, so presumably this 6% add on does not go directly to staff. I had the seabass with risotto, and it was good. The micro salad is there on the plate and is a micro size pile of micro greens. At least the seabass and risotto were good. At this price point, a vegetable would have been reasonable to have on the plate. My guest had the flat iron steak, medium rare. The edges were medium rare, but inside was rare. Tidal, have you never heard of sous vide? The garlic potatoes and carrots that came with the steak were cooked way over done. The carrots were shriveled. The garlic potato was hard as a rock on the ends making it inedible. The center of the potato was not too bad, only about 1/3 of the potato was edible. I tried the steak, and it was very good, but the seasoned butter was way too heavily salted, spoiling the gorgonzola cheese. The Hamachi appetizer was very tiny, but very good. So pre-dinner drinks, one appetizer, and dinner for two ran about $165...way too much, about twice what the meal might be worth. So why 3 stars? Because too many folks ignore reading 1star ratings. I hope the 3 stars catches interest and will help folks make a good decision and realize this is a 1 star tourist hotel eatery. read more

Came here on vacation with my 2.5 year old toddler. We had dinner reservation for 6PM. Started off with great drinks and ordered some delicious sounding mains. Unfortunately, it's all that it was. We waited over 40 minutes for the main course and with a hungry toddler it feels like eternity. The waitress was apologetic but didn't do anything to help the situation. Don't recommend coming here if you have young children. Food was okay; my husbands food was cold by the time it arrived to the table. I've been here several times and always liked it. The food is good and the view is beautiful. We went here to have dinner last night. It was $46 a person for some really great choices. However, if you're a vegetarian it's not quite worth it. There's only a couple choices and they don't reduce the price when you're not eating the expensive food. They charge the same thing which seems a little unfair to vegetarians. The hostess at the front was not very accommodating. My friends and I went to BBQ night at Tidal on Saturday night. Our reservation was at 7:00 and we arrived around 6:50. Upon arrival they told us our table was finishing up. Around 7:05 we asked again and they said it was being cleared and should be ready soon. Around 7:15 when we asked again they said it was being set. We finally sat down around 7:20 (being set apparently meant plates stacked with silverware on top of it). Upon arrival, we got our water quickly but the one waiter we saw on the floor walked by our table about 6 times, looking at us but never checking in. Around 7:30, we were finally able to flag him down. He seemed surprised when we said no one had checked on us (he was the only waiter in our section). We finally put our orders in and were given drinks and salad in a timely fashion. The salad was delicious and so were the drinks. They they followed that with the cornbread which was a fan favorite. The food was all very good. The brisket was my favorite and all of the sides were delicious. Based on the service, we were shocked when the food turned out being as good as it was. We found out that service and gratuity is automatically added to your check which probably explains the horrible service. I really want to rate Tidal higher but the service was terrible. read more

The front desk was very accommodating after we had to change our reservation because we had an additional person and dogs. They sat us outside by the fire pits, which has an incredible view on the water. We weren't impressed with the food though. The very limited prefix menu has just four options for your main course. We each got one of the four, the "fried chicken" is a few fried mushrooms on a piece of bread, was very dry yet salty. The brisket was overly covered in sauce but at least was the largest portion. The only downsides are that the brunch menu is limited and a tad overpriced compared to other spots in San Diego. The prices are low compared to what it would be a 100 miles North, with a similar ambiance. (No, not cheap, still) claims and mussels - overly salty. And that's an understatement. I use so much salt, my family hides the salt shaker from me. And it could barely eat it it was so salty. halibut - dry. There are many ways to avoid overcooking it (one tip: cut it half an inch thicker), not sure why they couldn't pork loin - incredible. May be the best pork loin I have ever tasted pastry - nothing to remember. Better than supermarket cake but... too sweet, and underwhelming in flavors. Overall, a fun experience. read more

Probably the worst food I've ever had at a restaurant. Stared with super bland empanadas but at least they were just bland and not terrible. My dad has the halibut and have me a taste, that was just bad but not gross. I had the New York steak, which was tough as a microwaved steak and accompanied by mediocre sides. That was actually terrible. I had about a forth of my steak and was starving but couldn't do it. I had to spit the last bite into a napkin and call it a day. My dad asked me to get a to go box and not make the waitress feel bad, she was nice. I stopped up the street and gave the steak to a homeless person, I actually wonder if he liked it. I had to post this because I have no idea how they can have great reviews. The restaurant has a great view and the Ballast Point lager was great but I can't give them a star for that. Not a very pleasant dinning experience. Started with a Dry Scallop Congee. Too many good ingredients were mixed into the congee in a not well designed way. The flavor was way too overwhelming, which is deadly for a congee. The Wagyu Burger was awful. The wagyu beef was not sealed properly and was then cooked to nearly well-done. That fully ruined the taste of the fat, which is the key advantage of wagyu beef. The french fries with the burger were quite good though. The seabass was good. But the rice with it was worse than those cooked by automatic rice cookers. Dry, hard, bearly edible. Overall 2 stars for the food. +1 for the wonderful view. read more

This review is long over due. When I visited Tidal in February I was honestly impressed. Chef Andrew Reyes left his Pacific Islander flavor profile on each and every plate. We opted to do a tasting with wine pairings and surprisingly I was impressed. (About $95 pp) Tidal being a part of paradise point threw me off as I expected mediocre "resort" food at a high price point at best. I was wrong! Met up with some family here for Sunday brunch. It's a beautiful waterfront location with a view of Mission Bay. On weekends, they serve brunch Sat & Sun 9AM-2PM. We all shared two orders of the Malasada-Paradise Doughnuts (3 per order), served with guava jam and yuzu ginger curd. The yuzu ginger curd was my personal favorite, and the malasada was nice, hot, fresh and so fluffy - soft enough to make a hole and fill it with the game/yuzu. I ordered the Island Style Breakfast Sandwich: house-made spam, green onions, eggs any style, island rolls, kimchi aioli and a choice of side (I chose the lava salt french fries). This sandwich was MASSIVE, the bread alone was 4 pieces of king's hawaiian rolls. The house-made spam was impressive and definitely not as salty as the real thing. I also ordered my eggs over easy, so the gushing of the yolk was delightful. Our server Logan was very accommodating as we were a party of 8. Very prompt and friendly service. The preset Hawaiian menu was okay in my opinion but the last time we stayed at Paradise Point Resort I had a New York Steak here at Tidal that I still crave. Taylor our waiter was spot on and always one heart beat away from me. Excellent service and Jesus the busboy also was so attentive to our needs. All I had to do was turn my head in their direction and I had attention like Dorothy in the Emerald City. Love it! All restaurants should take a cue from this place. We had dinner here on the first night of our conference. We had the night's special which consisted of a full 3 course meal. Started with a strawberry and shrimp salad, braised short rib, and raspberry cheesecake. The salad was fresh and topped with toasted sesame seeds. The braised short ribs had good flavor but a little drier than I prefer. The cheesecake was yum but the raspberry jam was way too thick and too sweet, it overpowered the cheesecake. For having such a small menu, you'd think that they would pay more attention to the quality of their food, but you'd be wrong, unfortunately. We ordered the salmon and steak dishes, I forgot their names but both of them were lackluster. The salmon was dry and the steak was extremely well done. We asked them if they could recook the steak to be medium well and they gave us a steak that was almost rare. The main dishes and their sides were all salty. We have lived in Crown Point for many years and have made reservations at the Tidal for many different occasions. We originally didn't care about the cost because we expected that it would be as good as it was in the past, but that was not the case this time. It was a disappointing $110 spent each for a substandard Easter Brunch. Taxes and surcharges added about 34% to the bill resulting in a $449 charge. Such a disappointment! The prime rib and ham were very good, but everything else was substandard for any price. Based on my observations and experience, this looked like a sad attempt to for the restaraunt to make a lot money by overcharging the customers and serving cheaply made dishes and desserts. With only ratatouille for the main side vegetable and only mashed potatoes for a choice was grossly inappropriate for a $450 meal. Dishes were indistinguishable because they were hidden in a medley of vegetables and sauces. The mixed seafood dish was once again hidden in a vegetable sauce. The fish dish was also hidden in vegetable sauce. A very smart way to save money and limit the amount of seafood bought for the brunch. I was very disappointed that there were no peel and eat shrimp or crab served. The dessert display was shockingly bad because it only consisted of tartelettes and rice crispy treats. We paid nearly $450 for a dessert display with no fancy cakes, pies, or anything special. I could have gone to my local grocery store and picked up the same items!
