Tigawok is a cafeteria style Chinese restaurant offering mini-bowls. Think of it as an upscale Panda Express with robot-assisted cooking to help control the quality of food. The bowls are environmental friendly and to go bags here are super fancy. Their condiment station includes radishes and chili sauces. Bowl pricings range from about $4 to $7 and items switch from week to week. Some of my favorite ones were the zesty shredded chicken ($6) and orange peel chicken ($5). I can handle spicy dishes but found their kung pao chicken ($6) to be a bit too spicy. The hunan spicy beef ($7) was way above my threshold. Another really good veggie dish was the garlic eggplant and green beans ($4). Overall I was impressed with the cleanliness, service and a few of the items. I really wanted to love this place more, but I'd give it a 3.5 if I'm being honest. Here's what we got: Taiga Wagi curry - very good with the rice. Orange chicken - okay, hit the spot. Hunan Spicy beef - the beef was fine but the entire dish was almost inedible because it was 60% chilis, 20% celery and the rest beef. Chow mein didn't taste like anything & I wish the veggie/cabbage had been cooked more. Good value, variety and fast service. My daughter wanted something quick and small before heading to a school musical performance, Tigawok came out as one of the options on route. We arrived around 5:45pm and thought the place seemed empty. Well, I spoke too soon. Right when we picked out our dishes and paid, there was a fleet of people lining up to come in. The indoor tables were quickly filling up. Like me, a lot of the people were first time customers and fascinated by what they have to offer. A lot of people asked for samples. We were a little pressed for time so just went with what we thought looked good. We were going to get the rice but seeing the chow mein was a decent portion we decided not to get the rice. We picked kung pao chicken and pepper kurobuta pork. Both dishes were super spicy but very flavorful! I especially enjoyed the fresh peanuts in the kung pao chicken. I'm so glad Tigawok finally opened in Orange County, and I was excited to try it. They have two other locations in LA. They serve authentic Chinese and Asian cuisine, cooked by robot woks. It was a little confusing for me when I walked in... and reminded me of a cafeteria style line. You go in, pick up a tray to your right, then select mini bowls of food. There are several bases to choose from: rice, chow mein, etc. I got the rice and chow mein. For main mini bowls, I picked the ORANGE PEEL CHICKEN, Tiga cola chicken, Kung pao beef, and stir-fried garlic eggplant/green beans. The workers place all your selected items on the tray, and then you go to the cashier at the end to pay. There are about 4-5 tables to sit at. The place is modern and casual, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Most mini bowls are priced at $3-7, which is very affordable. The food was fresh and tasty also. My favorites were the rice base with orange peel chicken. It was nice and crispy, with a hint of tang. The Tiga cola chicken tasted like teriyaki chicken. However, I found it to be a little too sweet. The kung pao beef was super spicy and in the dry side. Nice place! Everything is clean and it was easy to order entrees. The staff are friendly and energetic. The orange chicken was okay but the meat was dry inside the breading. Ingredients go in, and after a quick spin cycle, a tray of food heads to the counter. Every dish is reasonably priced around $3-7. While the lines look long, they efficiently keep things moving. If they run out of an item, you're handed a beeper. Then, it's a 5-10 minute wait it's ready for pickup. Pepper Kurobuta Pork: This is their best dish. The thin slices of pork belly are rich and flavorful. Shishito peppers are crisp and delicately seasoned with a tasty black bean sauce. Hunan Spicy Beef: If you enjoy heat, this is the dish for you. The sliced beef is tender enough. There are a lot of fiery peppers in this mini bowl. They won't burn your tongue off, but they pack a mighty punch and they're almost citrusy. Wagyu Mapo Tofu: The mapo tofu could use more flavor in its sauce and probably more spice. The wagyu is crumbled and added as a topping. It's good, but you wouldn't know it's wagyu. First time trying Tigawok in Irvine. Went there for lunch around 12:30 and was a little nervous seeing a pretty big line. When I got into the store the line was actually not that bad. It's just really cramped in there so it looked like it. For foodI got the steamed rice, mapo tofu, Tiger Cola Chicken, and the Orange chicken. People say this is the premium Panda Express and they're right. - Steamed rice is great. - Mapo tofu was delicious. Not too spicy and didn't have much numbing spice which was nice for me. - Tiger Cola Chicken was alright. Didn't taste much cola. It was a little sweet but no strong flavors. - Orange chicken was very crispy and fresh. Had a hint of orange flavor. Shout out to the workers. They were struggling to keep up with in person orders and online orders. The one negative I'll say is we were waiting in line and wanted to try to Chow Mien but they were out. One of the workers comes out and dumps a new tray but tells us it's not for us but the online orders. I'm not sure what their process is but that was a little off putting. PS. Have been waiting to try this new Chinese take out spot. Quick tip avoid peak hours. I dropped by a little after 1:30pm so the crowd had died down. The set up is pretty simple. Grab a tray and just get in line and tell the server what u want and he or she will get u a bowl. I opted for a mix of Chow mein (decent not too greasy), mapo tofu (next time I will do without the beef on top) it looks spicy but it isn't, orange chicken gotta try it (still like panda and PF Changs and Siam Station more) and of course the eggs and tomato (a bit too chunky for me). Server was nice enough to let me sample the cola chicken which was basically teriyaki chicken. After u pay u can eat there or pop on the lids and put it in one of their nice to go bags. All in with tip and tax it was just under $20. Which I think nowadays is pretty reasonable. I was only able to eat about a 1/3-1/2 of everything so the rest was dinner. Will definitely swing by again to try the kung pao chicken and Brussels sprouts and maybe eggplant. read more

Upon entering, you grab a tray and follow the line to order your food. Each of the dishes range from 4 to 6 dollars, with rice being about three dollars. You also have the choice of ordering fried noodles instead if you are looking for carbs. There's a variety of choices, but mostly when you would expect from a Chinese restaurant, including compile chicken, orange peel chicken, mopo tofu, tomato, egg, and more. In terms of quality, it's not bad, however, you get what you pay for if you're looking for comparison to panda express, this seems more affordable, but in terms of taste, and I might be slightly ahead of tigawok, just ever so slightly. The tomato egg was solid. So was the mopo tofu. I've been here twice now and the white rice, if you're looking to supplement your meal with carbohydrates, is a hit or miss, sometimes too hard and undercooked. Sitting in first come first serve, and although there are about 10 or so tables, it is pretty limited inside. However, you can also eat at the tables outside the restaurant. Great concept. It's basically an authentic Chinese (specifically more Cantonese or Hong Kong pallette) food version of Panda Express. You can also get samples. As you enter, you'll grab and tray and go down the food line where you can either get an a la carte bowl for an entree by itself or a 2 or 3 plate combination. I particularly enjoyed the chinese sausage (lahp cheung) fried rice option as a base (which has a small upcharge). The cola chicken and wagyu beef were flavorful but I wished the pieces of meat were a little bigger. It's diced pretty small so you may want to use a spoon to eat it. The tomato and scrambled egg was good, maybe a little on the sweet side. I wished that had more beef options other than the wagyu beef, curry beef and hunan spicy beef. The curry flavor is pretty good (goes well with steamed rice) but the meat's not as tender as I would've liked. The steamed pork dumplings (xiao long bao) weren't bad...just don't expect DTF here. They have a self-service condiment bar that has soy sauce/vinegar and small cubes of white radish at the entrance. The self-service drink area is towards the back and has sweetened and unsweetened oolong tea. They also provide lids and bags near the drink station for all of your bowls and plates in case you need to take your left overs home. I had high expectations, so I guess I should have been prepared to be disappointed. I heard a lot about how Tigawok was affordable and better than Panda and was eager to try it. On the positive side, staff was very friendly. I like that Tigawok has several vegetarian dishes. The mapo tofu was definitely the best of the dishes I tried. Some of the dishes were very oily. I would have ordered the pepper Kurobata pork, but it was swimming in a sea of oil. I enjoyed the flavor of the dry pot brussels sprouts, except that I would bite into some of the sprouts and have oil shoot out of it. So much for trying to be healthy! The garlic eggplant and green beans were way overcooked, and the green beans were mushy. Maybe those robot cooks need a bit more refining. The containers are nice touch, but I'm guessing that most of them are winding up as landfill, as opposed to being reused. Also, they aren't spill-proof either, as the mapo tofu wound up leaking all over the cool reusable bag, soaking it in oil. The menu is really confusing but the line moves fast and the food is better than Panda Express. It looks like a cafeteria for Chinese food, where you choose which items to get. 3 entrees, but only those specific three, can be made into a combo, which comes with side rice (or upgrade) and side vegetables and drink. One of those is the Mapo tofu (another is orange peel chicken and then I think sesame chicken). The mapo tofu is a solid is solid, can opt for ground beef on top. It's slightly spicy, rich in umami, variable texture from the beef and tofu, and can always be topped with pickled radish and chili sauce. The side vegetable is broccoli and carrots in garlic sauce, served cold and was quite tasty. Possible to upgrade side rice to lomien noodles or wagyu pork belly rice. The pork belly rice is very robust umami, worth getting. The pork belly can be fatty, but does provide flavor and there is some sauce that will cover about half of the rice in the bowl. Drink options are Pepsi products and either unsweetened oolong tea or sweetened black tea. We were allowed to sample the Cola Chicken and selected that over the Orange Peel Chicken. The orange peel is fried while the Cola chicken is closer to a teriyaki, grilled and then covered with a thin sauce based on Coca Cola soda. It was not as sticky as a teriyaki although it might pass as one, and I didn't taste and soda to it (I don't drink Coca Cola often anyway). read more

The restaurant is sandwiched between Starbucks and Omomo Tea Shoppe at the corner of Culver and Walnut in a shopping center anchored by a Trader Joe's. Parking is limited and may be hard to come by, especially during peak hours. There is almost always a wait outside of Omomo, and you can expect one outside Tigawok too. Seating is also limited inside the restaurant, but additional tables can be found outside. The Tigawok menu is fairly basic but when you see the dishes served in front of you, it's hard not to want to try everything. If you're dining in, Tigawok recommends the following 4-step process: 1 - Take your tray 2 - Choose a staple 3 - Choose your mini bowls 4 - Pay for your order Between our family of three, we ordered the Braised Pork & Wagyu Beef Rice Bowl and Chow Mein as our staples. Our mini bowls included the Steamed Soup Dumplings, Wagyu Mapo Tofu, Hunan Spicy Beef, Potato Shreds with Bean Sprouts, and Pepper Kurobuta Pork. This is a new concept place next to Omomo tea shop. It is set up like a cafeteria, you pick the dish, they scoop into an individual container that is made of plastic. You take the four or five container on a tray to your table and eat. You can also take everything to go. The staff is friendly, and the place is very clean. The prices are reasonable with each dish costing around five dollars. I would have given the restaurant four or five stars if not for one huge issue I have with the concept of this place. I want to support new businesses and watch them succeed, and I want to be fair and kind to new owners. However, there is a problem here with the design of this restaurant. It could be fixed very easily. It is not about how they cook the food, or the taste of the food, or the quality of the food. The problem I see is with the environment. This place creates a huge amount of waste that goes into landfills. Each item is packed in its own plastic container, which is thrown away when you are done. I've been seeing some great reviews so finally decided to come check it out. I came here on a Wednesday lunch and the place was still packed with people! The concept is similar to Panda Express where you pick a base and choose your entrée. They come in mini bowls which gives you the flexibility of trying different items. I got the orange chicken peel combo which comes with the rice (set measurement for each rice bowl), the bowl of chicken, the chilled garlic broccoli, and a drink. I also got a side of tiga cola chicken to try. I was very pleasantly surprised that the food was actually quite tasty! The orange chicken had a nice crunch and tender chicken. The tiga cola chicken tasted like braised chicken, no special taste. Not too greasy and flavors weren't too overpowering! The downside is the food wasn't that hot, and was more on the warm side. I wish the food was hotter as it'll make them tastier and enjoyable. As I sat there, I was able to see the food being quickly replenished. I don't eat pork, and they didn't have many beef options. All the beef was also unfortunately not being sold the day I went, so I was only left with the chicken options. This place is so good! Since they opened, I've already visited twice, once for takeout and once for dine-in. The prices are super reasonable, especially for the Irvine area. We spent about $34.40 for two bases (rice and chow mein) and five mini-bowl items -- plenty of food for two people! I really love their concept, you get to try multiple dishes in one meal instead of having to commit to just one entree. Every mini bowl we tried was flavorful and satisfying, and the chow mein was excellent too. On top of that, the food tastes authentic, like true Chinese home-style dishes done right. I also heard they use high-tech robots for cooking, which explains why the flavors are so consistent every time. Only complaint I have about this location specifically is that the trays in the "clean" pile didn't seem very clean to me. Overall though, the food and concept are fantastic definitely a great new addition to Irvine! I really hope they can keep their prices consistent because this is such a solid deal for what you get. read more

My daughter sent me an Instagram ad for this Tigawok so I got really curious. Stopped by today to pick up some foods. The line was very long, which is expected for any new restaurant or business. Eggplant & green beans: green beans are good and not extremely salty but eggplant is super salty, Brussels sprouts with bell peppers: good. Mapo tofu: very oily and salty, Hunan beef: very spicy. Chow mein: okay, like any other chow mein. Pork buns: meh. Quite honestly, I was disappointed as I had high hopes for this place. Total bill was $35 altogether, but I don't know how much of that I would eat other than the stir-fried vegetables. read more

We came on a weeknight around 6pm and it was pretty busy, but we were able to snag one of the few tables available inside. This was my first time trying this concept, so I'll admit I was a little flustered while in line choosing my sides. They had fake versions of each mini bowl on display, but I kept looking at the actual dishes in the serving containers (sorry to the server for my confusion)! Despite the food being precooked, everything tasted super fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend the sweet tomato & egg. It was perfectly mixed, with soft, gooey scrambled egg and a delicious sweet tomato flavor. The Hunan beef was bold and spicy, and both the eggplant and green beans were excellent as well. Their plain white rice is dispensed by a machine according to weight. The only downside is that the food is quite oily, but overall it was really tasty and I love that you can sample a variety of different dishes in one meal. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy authentic, flavorful Chinese food. read more

Its like Panda Express but fresher and healthier options. You can also get your food quickly rather than a sit down place, which I enjoy more. The coconut shrimp is made to order, light on sauce (not drenched) which i love. You can get white rice for kids. The co-owner is incredibly kind and passionate about his store and it shows. The special in house sauce they make is SUPER addicting Haha! Spicy, garlic, and sweet all in one. Love to support it. Great job, keep it up! read more

Tigawok feels like a modern, upgraded take on Panda Express. We got the curry and orange peel chicken mini bowls to share with rice and chow mein. They ran out of chow mein at first but brought it out about 10 minutes later, which was nice of them to follow up on. The meal came out to under $20 total, which made it a great value for sharing. Lots of mix-and-match options to try different flavors, and their to-go bag and teal cutlery are an adorable touch! read more

**Update - I am moving my rating to four stars because Tigawok acknowledged my concerns and I'm glad that they took the time to read my review and will look into those concerns I pointed out. For that, I think that this place deserves more credit. After having tried Tigawok for the very first time through a Yelp Elite perk and loving it, I decided to revisit this past weekend. This time around, I was pretty frustrated with my experience. I think their 2 to 3 item bowls are a newer thing because I don't see any photos of that here on Yelp and don't remember that being a thing the last time I was here. It is super confusing when you order the bowl instead of just picking your base and sides and paying for them individually. There were so many "exceptions" and pricing differences when ordering the bowl. They charge extra for "premium" items if you order it in the bowl. The problem is, they have a million different type of pricing for every side, so depending on which side you pick, it's a different premium price. The type of base you choose to go with the bowl is also a different upcharge. I was pretty frustrated because it was confusing and it really seemed like the bowl wasn't a good "deal" that they made it out to be. After all that explanation, the fried rice that we were willing to pay an upcharge for was sold out and we had to wait. I lost it at this point and just wanted to hurry through and get out. The food is tasty. I ordered all the same things I did the first time I was here with one new side dish I didn't try before - Hunan Spicy Beef ($7.99). This thing was expensive for how much it was filled with chilis instead of beef and celery. Also, unless you are eating the chili directly, I did not find this dish to be spicy. You're better off with the Spicy Basil Chicken ($5.99). At the end, where you get your drinks, lids, etc., it's a mess. Sauces and liquids are all over the counter. There was no place to set my tray down without getting wet and dirty. I wanted to give this place four stars, but the more I think about how confusing their pricing is and how frustrated I was, I decided to lower my rating. A three is all because the food in general is good. But honestly, some of the prices (because every dish varies) for the portion is just not worth it. read more

Picked up dinner here for the first time. I got the stir fry noodle, curry beef and an order of steamed buns. They came in a small bowl for each item. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The prices are very reasonable. Friendly service. Definitely will come back again. They do offer in door dinning. read more
