Tigawok has a cool concept of having robots helping to cook the food! This is my second time back, the first time was during their first week of soft opening for their mini bowl coupon. At that time when I went around early dinner time, they didn't have like 2 things but I got two mini bowls, the wagyu mapo tofu and the tiga cola chicken. Both were really good, I forgot to take pictures at that time when I took it home so that probably shows how good it was haha. The mapo tofu was actually quite spicy in a good way and you can't go wrong with it. The tiga cola chicken was unique, never expected that coca cola would be incorporated somehow, but I actually really liked it as it had a slight sweetness to it and the chicken was tender and soft. Anyway, back to today, as I was in the area for lunch around 12pm, I was able to walk in with no wait. They also had everything available, which was good to see! There were two main staff members, one at the first area and the second at the second station. The second staff member offered and asked if I wanted to sample anything, which I appreciate the gesture. The ordering process was quick and efficient. There is not a lot of tables though, so if it gets busy, the tables will get filled pretty quickly, but it's not too bad since many people get it as takeout and there is outside seating shared with other restaurants. This time, I got the wagyu and kurobuta pork rice bowl as my base, and for the mini bowls, orange peel chicken (since I wanted to try this last time but they didn't have it), and the tigawok pork bun. Also got a drink from their third week of soft opening special deal, which I got the honey scented black tea (refreshing and just the right amount of sweetness). I can see why the wagyu and kurobuta pork rice bowl is popular, it's very flavorful and was both savory and slightly sweet in the sauce so it paired well with the rice. People may say it's too fatty, but honestly I think it was fine. The orange peel chicken was good too, not too sweet thankfully. But for chicken, I'd rather get the tiga cola one. The pork bun was just alright for me, honestly adding some of the sizzling wagyu spicy sauce from the self-service area saved it but I probably wouldn't order again personally. Overall, very affordable and authentic food! The bowls may look small, but I think it's pretty generous and you can order multiple things if you want to try different dishes. I also think it's nice that they come in containers that are reusable and they have a self-grab area (must get that marinated radish!) Personally, I think just getting a base dish plus two mini bowls is plenty enough for me. Most importantly, I like how affordable they are, making it perfect for college students or families. Its like Panda Express but fresher and healthier options. You can also get your food quickly rather than a sit down place, which I enjoy more. The coconut shrimp is made to order, light on sauce (not drenched) which i love. You can get white rice for kids. The co-owner is incredibly kind and passionate about his store and it shows. Whoa amazing prices with big portions! I ordered a la carte chow mein, Brussels sprouts, and Wagyu mapo tofu and it only cost me $13! I loved the Brussels, very crisp and flavorful. Mapo tofu was bland however. Chow mein taste was good and chewy. Definitely coming back again. It's a great option for fast Chinese food. I stumbled by this place during its soft opening because a friend took me to O Mo Mo next door. It's only open from 5-9pm sun-Thurs for now and 11am to 9pm Fri and sat. Workers were very enthusiastic and happy to help especially if there were any questions. Of course it's soft opening and the line is out the door but only waited 15 min. There's several tables inside and outside so there's plenty of options. I also loved how the utensils, drinks, sauces, and to go containers are in the back and out of the way. It's been a while since I've been excited about a new place opening up, but somehow I was excited about Tigawok even though the food was just what most Chinese/Chinese-American grew up eating. It's the same but different in a good way? I went during the 1st week of their soft opening and they looked pretty much 100% up and running. The line was about 8 people outside the door with a full line inside, that took a bit over 20 minutes before I started ordering. Simply grab a tray, then tell them what you want as you go down the line, each dish is shown on the display above the food. The cool factor is that the rice is measured/weighed by a machine and dispensed into a bowl, and all the dishes are cooked using an automatic cooking machine that stirs/tosses whatever you put in there. Their rice bowl is larger than their dish bowls. It's a healthy amount even though I wish there was more for the price (because I'm a fatty). Essentially for a two item plus rice meal, you are looking at roughly $12-14 depending on the dishes you pick. Quantity is not box busting like HK Express, but it's a healthy amount and definitely better quality. Everything we got was delicious and filling for the three of us, plus I portioned out one bowl for my kid's school lunch for the next day. And it's great being be able to get a small portion of a dish instead of having to order several full family portion like at a traditional restaurant so you can order more options. While walking down the line I noticed the green beans and mushroom? Was running low and saw that the bottom of the metal tray was pure oil, there was like 1/4 inch pool of oil sitting there. I feel like they should add a draining grate under food like that so people are not consuming stuff soaked in oil when it gets to the bottom. It's cool that all the bowls are square so they fit better on the tray, all the dishes are plastic, microwaveable and reusable, you can get lids at the end of the line after you pay. I love that design of the lids, because of how the holes are made, let chance for saucy things to make a mess when sloshing around while driving. read more

Really disappointed with my latest visit. I've previously wrote a review about this place for their huge portions, but those days seem to be over. At $5 a scoop, the servings in my last visit was shockingly skimpy, The containers for both the orange chicken and eggplant were barely half-full. I also had to wait 10 minutes for the chicken to be cooked, yet they were still rationing it because there were 5 orders ahead of me for the chicken. This was during dinner rush at 6 PM on a friday night. If you know you're busy, just cook more. It's frustrating to see the value drop off this sharply. read more

I particularly liked the orange chicken, fried rice, and pork belly. The spicy beef and thai chicken are really spicy so if you can't handle spice i do not recommend getting it. Finally got to try out this place. It's a quick Chinese takeout spot that's affordable. I ordered online for pick up but if you go in, it seems there were some other items and combos I didn't see online? Each dish is about 5-6$ and a side is like $2-3. The chowmein is flavorful and definitely much better than Panda Express. The orange chicken had great flavor though a little heavy on the batter. Kurobuta pork and pepper was actually quite spicy but I loved the flavor. The cola chicken I would skip next time. It was a sweet flavor but had so much oil. Also tried the wagyu beef and braised pork rice bowl. It had a decent traditional flavor but wasn't really worth it for me. There are also on the side pickled radish and a spicy chili paste. There were couple other dishes I want to come back and try! The workers' service and attitude really blew me away though. I had to wait a couple extra minutes because they were still making one of the items I ordered. Because of the wait they offered me a free drink. I also saw their kindness to a woman whose card didn't seem to be working either because she didn't activate it or something else. The worker was willing to pay for her meal out of their pocket and I just was touched but their kindness. The lady said she will be back to pay and they tried to say it's okay. Love to find places that serve gluten free dishes and this one is one of those winners! It's hard for me to find any gluten free chinese food and especially orange chicken! Need to do gf due to my allergy/intolerance. You know who you are -- orange chicken or sesame chicken lovers. So when I find a place that does gluten free orange chicken, I'd jump on it and try that place out. I happened to be around orange county that day and needed to find a place to eat - was craving chinese food so I did some yelping around :) Surprise to find Tigawok and went there to try their food. They clearly note their allergen on every dish. So happy to see that orange chicken is gluten free. So here are what I tried: - hunan spicy beef (the staff warned me that it's really spicy). I do eat spicy so I went ahead and tried it. They were not kidding, it's flavorful and really spicy. - orange chicken. it still has that crispness and not overwhelmingly sweet. I'd get 2 bowls of this for myself - mapo tofu. This is really good, like authentic chinese mapo tofu - I opted for white rice for the base but ordered this as separate bowl. - later on, we bought extra of a plate with 2 items and tried eggplant string bean and another orange chicken :) Love their concept. People can try some dishes with the mini bowls if they're not sure. The lids are available in the utensils area (Irvine loc) if you didn't finish the bowl and wanted to bring home. For food that is sitting on a steam tray you should Never give customers the last scoop since its not going to represent your best product, always bring out a fresh pan Great concept and customer service but scraping the pans for the last pieces of food means that the quality of taste is not good, the orange chicken was too crispy from sitting in the bottom almost like jerky and taste burnt and bitter ( all the orange pieces were on it so it tasted like the rind). The interior is rather small with just a few tables, but fortunately there are tables outside. As you enter, be sure to grab a tray as you begin your cafeteria style dining process. There is a variety of dishes to choose from. Choose wisely or you'll end up with a lot of leftovers, which is not a big deal. The rice is always kind of soggy, which is why this place loses a star. What good are slightly better dishes than your average takeout, if the rice is so awful? That being said, this concept is great, especially for students and young professionals. The portions are small and the prices reasonable, which means you can sample a little of everything without too many leftovers or waste. I like that the spicy food is actually a little spicy (to me). The brussel sprouts were tasty but a bit too oily. The line got a little backed up near the condiments and soda station at the end, but there is another set of side dishes up front.
