The mapo tofu here is seriously top tier and my fave! It's rich, flavorful, and perfectly numbing with that signature Sichuan spice especially with a bowl of rice! We also loved the Impressive Cold Noodles which were really addicting. We ordered the mild version and it was the perfect balance to complement the stronger, numbing flavors from the other dishes. It still had plenty of flavor without being overwhelming. One dish that kinda threw me off was the Couple's Sliced Beef. Since it's served cold, the texture of the beef felt a bit firmer and hard, and less tender than I personally prefer or expected. Overall, this is a place I can see myself coming back to multiple times a year. The flavors are bold and numbing (how it should be), the portions are generous for the price, and the whole meal just feels warm, satisfying, and comforting! This spot does get busy so make sure to check in on the waitlist ahead of time!

Came in a weekday evening for dinner - there was a good amount of customers but no wait. Ordering is easy and through an app, food comes quickly. Our favorite dish was the cold chicken with chili sauce - it was so flavorful and not as spicy as it looks! Chicken was so moist as well. Also really enjoyed the fish in chili sauce - the fish was so tender and melt in your mouth. Spicy wontons were yummy too. Overall ambiance is casual and parking is very easy.

This place is so good! This was my second visit, and it definitely didn't disappoint. We came for dinner on a Saturday, put our names on the waitlist, and ended up waiting about 20 minutes. We ordered the mapo tofu (my personal favorite), fish fillet with pickled vegetable soup, stir-fried chili chicken, and dry-fried string beans. We went with a mild spice level, which was perfect for us, but if you're more sensitive to spice I'd recommend going one level lower. Overall, it's a solid spot for Sichuan food, and I would definitely come back.

After late-night swim practice, the kids specifically asked for Jincheng, so we headed straight to the Tustin location. Turns out they're running a promotion right now -- talk about perfect timing They're offering a 5 full-size signature dish combo for just $78, plus three add-on dishes you can choose from. Promotion runs from 1/23-2/6 (only 15 days -- miss it and you'll have to wait another half year!) Their Sichuan food is very authentic -- no surprise since they've been Michelin-recommended for seven consecutive years. That said, it's not just spicy food here. They also have plenty of non-spicy, kid-friendly options, which makes it great for families. If you're planning a meal with family or friends, now's the time -- grab a table while the deal lasts! Don't wait until it's over and regret it later. Bonus: you can also get a free taro & sweet potato ball dessert

In a nutshell.. we went here looking for peppercorns and medicinal spice.. did we get it? No.. sadly everything was not as spicy and sichuan as we hoped it to be. The service was your typical Asian restaurant where they don't really look at you I. The eye and you can self order.. we did ask for a bowl of rice with a human waiter and they brought it immediately. This restaurant was in a plaza and we were able to get a bottle of water in the bodega within the same plaza. I give this place a 3.5 stars.

Intestine Noodle of Shuangliu ($12.99) takeout. 12/13/2025

It's hard for me to stray from my usual Sichuan spot, but Sichuan Impression offers some unique dishes that made m want to try, and I'm so glad I did. Here's what I ordered for takeout: Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper ($23.99), Tea Smoked Pork Rib ($27.99), A-Choy Taiwanese Lettuce with Garlic ($13.99), Tender Bamboo Shoots in Chili Sauce ($9.99), Mini Lamb Skewer ($22.99), and Intestine Noodle of Shuangliu ($12.99). Every dish was flavorful and delicious. The Tea Smoked Pork Rib was a bit pricey for what it is, but it was still tasty and I'm glad I tried it. Everything was packed very well, and ordering over the phone saves you some money compared to ordering online through their website. When I arrived, the people who helped me with my order were friendly and efficient. Overall, the prices here are comparable to or slightly less than my usual Sichuan place. There are definitely things this place does very well, and they offer unique dishes that I'd come back for. I do wish they used lived or fresh fish for the Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper, but for the price, it's still pretty good even with frozen fish fillet.

Solid Sichuan cuisine with some of the best numbing peppercorn dishes around--it keeps me coming back again and again! Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. My personal favorites are the cauliflower stir-fry, mapo tofu, and kung pao chicken. I'm not from Sichuan, but I've visited a couple of times, and let's just say when I taste authentic food, I know it.

Oooooo I love this place! Sechuan Impression is delicious packing with great flavor and quality. I ordered 5 dishes, that being the Cucumber, cold noodle, stir-fried chicken, fish soup, and the taro rice dessert. The dishes are so flavorful and are definitely made to be shared family style. With these dishes, we even had leftovers to take home! The cold cucumber appetizer is a lightly pickled and salted cucumber that blends well if you wanted a pallet cleanser or just a refreshing bite. It has a slight bit of heat from the chili peppers which is also a great touch. The cold noodle was soo yum and was a surprise to me. I ordered it since it was a popular dish on YELP and I would say order it and let it speak for itself! The stir-fried chicken and soup were a great combination as you can double up on protein! The stir fried chicken has a perfect blend of seasoning and flavors and is most similar to better flavored/seasoned popcorn chicken in my opinion. The fish soup was also awesome and comes in a spicy or non-spicy flavor. For dessert, the taro rice is a simple, yet tasty dessert. The best comparison I could make is like an arroz con leche, but less rice and milk. Still a great refreshing dessert to end the meal! Overall, the experience was great! The staff was nice and quick to service, even helping us pack our leftovers! I will say if you come in the evening try to get yourself on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time so you get seated ahead of time !

Some of the BEST Szechuan food I ever tasted. Restaurant looked liked any casual Chinese dining spot. Service was very quick and standard. The flavors of the food were very bold. My favorite highlights were the chicken with green Szechuan sauce and the street fries in mala seasoning. Everything was ordered in mild but did not sacrifice the mouth numbing aspect one bit. My friends and I had a silly moment trying the plum juice and with a 100% consensus found that it tasted like Carl's Jr bbq sauce lol Cant wait to come back try the other items

Came in on my own for dinner while in town for a work trip. This is right in my old neighborhood but was not here when I lived here. I wish it had been! Best kung pao I've ever had. This is kung pao done right. I ate the whole plate in one sitting because I just couldn't stop myself. Service was fine. I didn't need it to be more than what it was. And prices are fair. The place is packed and popular. Even as a party of 1 on a Sunday night, I had to wait 30 minutes, so keep that in mind. But I will definitely come back next trip to try the mapo tofu.

I'm still sweating just thinking about my experiences here! My tolerance for spicy is not the greatest, but every time Sichuan Impression has one of their special set menus (which seems to happen at least 2 or 3 times a years), I have to pay a visit. Most recently, in celebration of their 11 year anniversary, they ran a $78 combo (that serves 4-6 people) that allowed you to pick 5 courses. And the best things is that some of these selections include some of their most popular dishes. My absolute faves include: Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper Stir-Fried Chili Chicken (although I wish their set menu includes the intestine version in addition to the chicken) Mini Lamb Skewer Tender Bamboo Shoots in Chili Sauce For the amount of food you get, it ends up not being a bad deal, especially splits amongst 4+ people. If you're into sichuan food, you can't really go wrong with any of the selections here. But if you're like me and start sweating the moment that first peppercorn hits your mouth, be sure to ask for extra napkins at the beginning!

Came here with friends for Chinese new years. The food was amazing and the service was fast. The food was decent spiciness and I liked the tang each food gave.

    James L.

When I think of the best Chinese and Sichuan food in OC, this is the real deal and my top pick. The flavors are bold, unapologetically spicy, and exactly what you'd expect from a proper Sichuan kitchen. Ive tried a lot of the items on the menu and you can't really go wrong with anything honestly. I absolutely loved the sliced beef in chili oil. I also love the Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper; it has that signature numbing kick that makes you want to keep going back for more, even as your mouth's on fire. Portions are generous and perfect for sharing family-style. The restaurant itself has a casual but lively atmosphere--always bustling, which tells you it's the spot. Service is efficient and the staff knows the menu well, so if you're not sure how spicy to go, they'll guide you. This isn't Americanized Chinese food--it's authentic, complex, and meant for people who love spice. If you can handle the heat, you'll leave happy.

Like Gene, the serrano ahi poke bowl with wontons was the "go to" for every visit. Another fan favorite was the guac-poke with wontons. Well, wontons were removed from the menu altogether, and the serving size of the ahi is half of what it used to be. Not sure if this was a local decision or corporate decision, but it was a bad one! Second faux pas on the new menu is the removal of black beans with the taco plate. Now your options are fries or a salad. Who orders fries or salad with tacos? Black beans are so cheap. Even if you charge $1 for them, you're making money. Doesn't make sense to remove them. Oh, and the 3 taco plate is no longer an option. You can only get 2 tacos now. Third questionable decision ... eliminating the miso salad. The bartender told me that the house salad on the menu is the same as the miso salad. They mean the same thing. When the runner delivered what I thought was the miso salad, it looked different. So I asked her if this was the miso salad. She said no, that is no longer on the menu. So .... ya. Another big change for me was the removal of my favorite wine, the chenin blanc. The other whites are subpar IMO and not worth the drive over there ... especially with all these really poor menu changes. So now you know why I'm looking for a new happy place. If you know of any open air, fresh fish places, please DM me. Thanks! P.S. I went back and forth between giving 2 stars and 3 stars. The employees here are really exceptional. And I didn't think it was fair to give the whole restaurant 2 stars because their culinary executive is absolutely clueless.

We waited one hour on my visit, but that is to be expected as the restaurant is quite small. Beef Rolls (5/5): We got two orders of these, and it was our favorite for a reason. It needed the sauce of course! Spicy Wontons (4/5): These are solid and the chili oil does pack a lot of heat. I would say they are on the spicier side, just wish there was a little more depth to it. Seven Grams XLB (4/5): Juicy and flavorful! Not the absolute best I've had, but still worth ordering. Golden Beef Noodle Soup (5/5): This bowl right here was amazing. Green leafy kale paired with the extra hearty soup was what made this bowl a standout dish for me. 100% would order this alone! Mapo Tofu (5/5): Yummy silky tofu cubes with the minced meat sauce were delicious in every bite! I had no other complaints, but this dish gets very filling easily. Seating consider is around 10 tables plus hjgh top stools, so if you are a large group the wait can be long. We stopped by yesterday to try out some new items, which were a mixed bag. First the Cheese Chicken Roll was surprisingly good. Imagine the Beef Roll and swap things around to get something off of a fancy KFC menu. It features a crispy flaky tortilla outside, wrapped around copious chicken (katsu texture), some lettuce for a crunch, some melted cheese, and then a spicy Thousand-Island type dressing. It all pairs well, has a good chicken portion, and texture variation too. My only desire would be for slightly more lettuce and slightly less cheese, otherwise perfect. Crispy Lotus Root Fries are solid, but not a replacement for typical potato fries. The lotus version was not as crispy or crunchy, but would be an Asian version. It comes with ketchup and the same spicy thousand island dressing as the chicken roll. Lastly we were let down by the Pan Fried Shrimp&Chicken Dumplings (Whole Wheat). The whole wheat wrapping had a very slight texture difference, not as chewy as the typical dumpling wrapping. But the inside was the main focus. It seemed like it was a fishball inside, a homogenous color and texture and more reminiscent of fish than of shrimp. It's possible we got the wrong dumpling. Based on this experience we would not order it again. Wheat wrapping would be fine, but the shrimp/chicken filling would be a no.

Now that I've tried the food, felt the service, and enjoyed our meal, I can see why it has a line and a high star rating! The service: super friends and accommodating! The place itself is a small/medium size with lots of tables for seating multiple small/medium sizes of parties. We were a party of 5 (4 adults, one baby/toddler with a high chair). I loved how they accommodated my child with their children's menu in addition to providing us with scissors to cut up noodles. Upon stating our allergies, they helped us with food suggestions and limitations. It's honestly the little things that go above and beyond, as well as their friendly service. They weren't overtly checking up on us, and had just the right amount of interaction and help. Food: 3 of us got the beef belly pho and one got the beef rib, my son got a kids mean. Upon receiving our bowls you'd think by looking at the clarity of the broth that it wouldn't be super flavorful, but it absolutely was. It's not overpowering, but the right amount of savory with a hint of sweetness from the added o green onions. Each pho came with the garnishes of basil, lime, and bean sprouts as normal. We did have to ask for small side plates For those who wanted hoisin and sriracha on the side, but not a big deal and quick to get. I'm also a huge fan of the lychee lemonade at vox, which they had here. Not refillable, but still loved it! My son got their chicken nuggets with fries since the pho broth had some sesame oil which he's allergic to, but he loved it. It came in the cutest kid "happy meal" type of box and we used the scissors given to cut the nuggets and a few "washed" noodles. Overall, would love to come again for a great bowl of pho if the wait isn't too long!

We ordered the House Specialty Xi An Beef & Lamb Bread Soup, Beef Noodle Soup with Chunky Beef, Lamb Skewers, and Egg Fried Rice. Everything came in huge portions, especially the noodle dishes. The prices were very reasonable for the amount of food, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

It had been a couple of months since we were last there and my parents and my daughter had been asking to go back and were really looking forward to eating there. However, we were so disappointed when we went back 2 weeks ago! The menu changed a bit, which was fine, and all our usual dishes were still there. We did notice that the cooks have changed and the original Cantonese chef was not there. I think the kitchen staff really changed how the flavors of the dishes for the worst. My 7yo daughter used to love their shrimp fried rice, but as soon as the fried rice came out, the first thing she said was "how come it looks so different from before." Not only did it look different, it was BURNT. It was like they fried the rice in a burnt wok so every grain of rice was coated in tiny black burnt bits. It was essentially inedible. They also just topped the rice with some tastless blanched shrimp instead of actually stir frying the shrimp into the rice. The green onion pancake used to be flakey with layers and expectedly oily for this dish, but the pancake we got this time was essentially a tasteless tortilla. It literally looked and tasted like a tortilla. No layers, flakes or oil at all and was the worst green onion pancake I've ever had anywhere. The fish with black bean sauce was acceptable, but it was definitely not the same. It tasted more like American Chinese flavors instead of the previous authentic Cantonese flavors. The only dish that I thought was still good was the stir fried eggplants, although my parents said it also tasted more Americanized. We are so sad that the food here has changed so much and it was one of the rare places my Cantonese dad actually said tasted authentically Cantonese in the area. The restaurant was full during our latest vist but we did notice that 90% of the diners and people ordering take-out were non-Asians. When we came previously, there was a good mix of Asian and non-Asian diners, so it seems like the clientele have shifted, which might explain the flavor changes or vice versa. The staff is still very nice and friendly, but it seems like the robot server has been laid off. I don't think we will be coming back again unfortunately as the food is no longer what we loved before. However, they seemed to still be doing well so others must still like it.

They have a lot of staff so service was great and attentive. We got the tamago and gyoza appetizers which were well made. They had no tako dishes (squid) of any form available at around 1:30 pm, saying it was all sold out. I ordered the spicy beef udon since I saw it online a lot, and it was definitely worth it! I got the standard spice and it had a nice kick but nothing too crazy. It was on a self burning pot so it kept it nice and hot throughout the meal. There was a good amount of beef and the soup flavor was unique and worth it! They also include a cheesy rice ball which you add into your soup at the end to make a porridge. Would definitely recommend ordering this one!

The restaurant is pretty small and packs quickly so if you do decide to come make sure to get on the Yelp waiting list! Other than that the restaurant itself is cute. It was brought out in a small cauldron like bowl atop a flame! It was boiling hot the whole time I ate! After you finish the udon there's a fried rice ball that you then would put in the pot to eat with the rest of the broth. I didn't go the traditional route.. instead I broke a piece of the rice and was surprised with some melted cheese inside! And took my piece and dipped it in my broth and ate it. It was great! So crunchy and umami! I would come again just for that rice ball lol

Service was attentive throughout the meal, with the staff checking in regularly without being intrusive. There was no lunch rush when we went, making for a nice, calm brunch atmosphere. The lychee lemonade came with unlimited refills, which was a nice bonus. It tasted how you'd expect from a classic lemonade with a noticeable lychee flavor, and had lychee pulp throughout. We ordered several dishes to share. The Calamari was a good appetizer. It had a light, crispy coating with good seasoning, and the dipping sauce paired nicely with it. We also tried the Carne Asada Fries, which were loaded with flavor. The meat was well-seasoned, and the sauces tied everything together without overwhelming the fries. The Garlic Noodles with filet were a solid choice. The noodles were flavorful, and the filet was cooked well, tender and juicy. The Fried Rice with Pork Jowl was probably my favorite dish. The pork jowl was rich, tender, and packed with flavor, and the fried rice complemented it really well, offsetting the fattiness. For being at South Coast Plaza, I thought the prices were fairly reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. It's not somewhere I can afford every week, but it's a great option when you're looking for a nicer lunch while shopping. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.
