Loved it! The second I stepped onto the sand at the entrance, I was transported. It no longer felt like I was in southern Maryland; I was on a Caribbean beach Jimmy Buffett writes songs about! Giant Moai dot the sand, palm trees abound, and colorful light bulbs are strung overhead everywhere. There are three bars from which to grab a beer, cocktail, or frozen daiquiri, and the bartenders are busy but not inattentive. Dozens of rainbow-colored Adirondack chairs sit on the sand and around large beach umbrellas, so if you don't want to belly up to the bar, you have a wide variety of places to rest. There is a cigar bar and a small gift shop on one side and both have friendly cashiers working inside. This is a people-watcher's fantasy: there are patrons from every walk of life at the Tiki Bar. Whether there is a DJ or the music is piped in, it is lively and diverse but not so loud you can't hold a conversation. I was in southern MD for 3 days and would have gone to the Tiki Bar all 3 nights if a summer thunderstorm hadn't thwarted my plans on the last night. read more

Lived right next to Tiki Bar for 3 years. The opening is the Mardi Gras of SoMD. Bring cash, but there's a ATM with a big surcharge if you run out. Avoid all the colored drinks, but the orange crush, which is great. The beers are in a can & overpriced. Bikers hang here, but so does everybody. Somewhere to check out at least once. What a great little outdoor bar! I LOVE this place. Yes, it's outdoor---so there's dirt all over the place, and yes, there is a crowd that enjoys their cocktails. However, the Orange Crush tastes like 'tang on steroids' or a yummy creamsicle (fresh squeezed OJ!) and prices aren't outrageous ($8 for an orange crush, ~$4-5 for a beer). Tiki Bar is so much fun! It is a wild place, with seriously dangerously strong drinks. Everytime I have been I order grapefruit crush (best drink ever) and wind up getting sloppy drunk! Went to the tiki bar for the first time last night. Had a great time. Really fun atmosphere and met some great people. Only reason it's not a 5 star is because I heard everyone rave about their Mai Tais so I obviously had to try it. Unfortunately it was horrible. It was just a premade drink that was poured from a container. The rest of the drinks were fine, but I wouldn't waste the money or time on the Mai Tai. Will definitely go back! Honestly, I think these individuals worked very hard to make this establishment work. However, it doesn't excuse that my friends and I went here this night and were physically assaulted by the staff. I unfortunately, yet willingly, received bruises and cuts on my back and neck from the staffs overzealousness to deoccupy the bar by 2AM. They also physically assaulted two women that I was with and verbally abused two other males I was with. There was no violence on our part, just reminders of their policies which fell on deaf ears. I would also like to note that no one in my party was under the influence of alcohol, only drinking two drinks in four hours, using this comfortable space to catch up on pastimes. They are now charging $10 per person, per day, just to get in, on top of the cost for a shuttle bus or Uber ride to get there. It cost $40 for me and my wife for the privilege of attending. In general... We visited Solomons (Island), Maryland ... for the first time ... arriving late afternoon on Friday, August 3, 2012, and departing late morning on Sunday morning, August 5, 2012. Our goal was to visit as many of the little restaurants, bars & grills, and "watering holes" within site of the water. The weather was beautiful, the environment was soothing, the folks that we encountered were pleasant, and the entire experience was pleasing. However, we might classify this as one of those trips that fall into the category of "Been there, done that, and bought a T-shirt to prove it." If we are to visit again, it will need to be for a special event, or something out on the water ... Maybe we will need to buy a boat and see it from the marina side?!?! A visit to the Tiki Bar was something that we had been looking forward to since first learning about Solomons and beginning to research what was down there. It just seemed to appear to embody everything that we would need to allow one night in Maryland take us back to Jamaica, Key West, and Hawaii all rolled into one! But... we just didn't "feel" it. It was O.K., but not what we were expecting. Granted, it was only about 9:00 PM, but we don't think that we could afford to stay longer in order to see if it was going to get better. Our meaning...It is a "cash only" establishment, which has its pluses and minuses for both the patron and the business. We walked into the main/front bar, and placed our drink orders with a quite older bartender (the other two that we encountered at two of the smaller "side" bars were young, pleasant, and attractive women). We had the Cajun Margarita and the Bloody Mary ... $16.50 without tip ... and the hand was out for the money before the second drink hit the bar. One of us (husband) was around the corner "exploring" when the drinks arrived, and the wife explained that the husband had the money. As soon as the husband returned, the bartender dropped what she was doing and made a bee line to our position, hand out and a squawk for "Sixteen-fifty!" We took our drinks and began to wander around the grounds and noticed two things: (1) what was done with the available space was quite creative and worked its best to try and give that island vibe; and (2) the drinks were not good at all ... and for $16.50, mind you!! We chased the taste away with Bud Light Lime in cans, where that was only $9.00, delivered by lovely young ladies, who said very sweetly, with a smile, "Please" and "Thank you!" Bottom line: If you venture to Solomons, you must stop at the Tiki Bar ... no argument here on that. We hung around for about 90 minutes, and we just didn't feel that it was going to get any better. It was the least friendly place that we visited, as folks were younger than us and seemed to be in their own closed, little groups. When we walked past the Tiki Bar the following night, near 11:00 PM, and after a most-enjoyable three hours at the Calypso Oyster Bar, it did not look or sound any different than it did the night before, so we strolled on by. read more

I've been to Tiki Bar many times. I've gone to a few openings which were a crazy time. If you go to the opening be prepared for tons of people. A lot of drunk people. Loud music. Looooong bathroom lines, etc. ...don't go if you hate that sort of thing. And I think this was the first year they charged a cover, but only for the opening. The rest of the summer depends on weather & when you go. But usually it's a good crowd. The bar up front can get too crowded sometimes but if you venture to the side there's plenty of seating & a couple smaller bars out there. Some Sunday afternoons there is live acoustic & it's relaxing. I happen to be a fan of the mai tais but I like the sweet tropical drinks. It is cash only & I recommend having it with you. There is an ATM but I've been there when it was out of order. Also def have ID with you & park out back, there are very few spots out front. There is Grill Sergeants BBQ for food, it's about 20 steps from the bar & it's yummy! read more

I was refused service at this bar because my perfectly valid CA ID is vertical. The manager claimed that this was "Maryland law" which is completely false. When I asked what law he was referring to he suggested to me that I take my business elsewhere. Please don't think that this place serves Mai Tai's. Pre mixed, all I could taste was grenadine and grapefruit juice and whatever rail liquor they put in it. Me and my significant other we're very angry when we were profiled as "f***ing teens playing Pokemon" as stated by the owner. Which whom we asked to speak to, to alleviate the situation. Overall a horrible and disgusting addition to solomons island in which I believe needs to be evaluated for more than just the service. My friends and I visited for the first time and were verbally and physically assaulted (males and females) by the staff due to the staff's over-zealousness to empty the bar before the advertised closing time. (Note:one of the staff members was visibly drunk and claimed to be the owner [Mike]). There was no violence on our part; we were simply asking questions when the the aforementioned man and a bouncer suddenly became irate, knocking the drinks from our hands and injuring my friend for no apparent reason. I would also like to note that no one in my party was under the influence of alcohol (we only had 2 mixed drinks in the span of 2 hours). We were chased all the way across the street and abused off bar grounds (the bouncer [Ira] shoved 2 females to the ground, causing one to hit her head hard on the pavement. She was not aggressive at all - she was simply trying to help her friend up who was also shoved). We will never attend again and will make sure to spread the word about the abuse that the owner and his staff allows to happen at this deplorable establishment. I would not recommend this place to anyone - there are much better bars to go to if you want to get a nice drink and chill in a relaxing environment with good people. So this is my first time at this establishment and had no idea that this is cash only bar and they do not accept Vertical ID's, as a result of this condition, we had been refused service because my son had a vertical ID but he's over 21. As I dug further into the state law governing the drinking age, I also found out that this is a rule but not a law. I'm still trying to figure that gem of a bit of information out. This state makes no sense to me, the other day I saw teens setting at the bar in a chain restaurant and no one said a word about, ever the bartender made no argument about teens setting at the bar but to be refused service and then being told we would have to leave at the Tiki bar said one thing that was very clear about this place, there employee are not trusted to make an educated decision. This was my first and last time here. This place is no big deal and there are plenty of other places to go. Go elsewhere and have a good time. read more

The Tiki Bar is a Solomons Island institution, and a fun place to visit. If you want a wild time, come for the opening day or on a Friday or Saturday night. If you are like me (older) you may enjoy coming earlier in the evening or on a week night where you can enjoy the pretty view of the harbor on a warm summer's night. I love their cocomais, and yes, their drinks are strong, so use caution. There are many special events at the Tiki Bar throughout the warm months, which is the only time it is open as the bar has no walls. I recommend the Doggone Tiki Bar Day held in October, which benefits local animal rescue groups, where you can watch a dog costume party, adopt a new pet, and have a drink with fido. read more

Service was great as usual...except at the back bar. Some brunette girl was more concerned with when she got off work rather than serve her customers. She took away my boyfriend's half full drink and our half eaten cheese fries without explanation...she then complained that we complained because we were too drunk. False. She was raving all night about how she wanted to just get off work. I feel like giving a 1 star is generous as it would only be appropriate to give this place of business ZERO stars (YELP doesn't allow zero stars). Why? My friend was refused service. The reason why he was refused service had nothing to do with him being under age. In fact, it is his 23rd birthday week. He was not dressed inappropriately, he was not intoxicated (he had not had any alcohol), he was not disorderly, he did nothing wrong. The reason why he was refused service was because his VALID California state ID was oriented vertically instead of horizontally. His ID was not expired and it clearly stated his date of birth and if you can do simple mathematics you can easily determine that he turns 23 in 4 days. I cannot believe such a place even can call themselves a "business". Do not go here, they discriminate against people that have the wrong shape of valid government ID. read more

My husband and I have been to your Tiki Bar several times and have really enjoyed ourselves. However today we had a very humiliating experience. We ride a Harley Davidson and enjoy stopping by to visit. One of your security guards asks me to take off my bandana. I'm not a person to cause issues so I said okay and took it off. I was very humiliated and embarrassed. What I should have done is ask for a manager. You should NEVER treat a customer who is just sitting back and enjoying quietly have been so humiliated as such. I will never come to the bar again and will share my humiliating experience with anyone I can. To also be honest it was a Harley Davidson bandana. My husband was wearing a Harley Davudson ball cap. Why was I singled outlet???? Why were others who arrived on motorcycles who had bandanas not asked to take theirs off???? It's not like I was in a biker gang. And how would the security have known maybe I was a cancer patient and wore it for medical reasons??? You felt humiliated and like trash which I'm not!!! My girlfriend and I have been coming here ever since I met her back in 2014. Unfortunately, our last couple of experiences have fallen very short of expectations. I am not sure what it is, but it seems that the bouncers, managers, and owners (Don Patrick and Terry Clarke) are becoming extremely strict about the rules that they give. It saddens me deeply to make the decision never to come back to this establishment ever again as this has always been our 'getaway' every weekend. The staff is rude, they are not disciplined by upper management, and after one of the bouncers told me to put my hat forward instead of backwards (it is meant to be worn backwards and is uncomfortable if worn forward), we have chosen that we will no longer be doing business and giving this company another cent of our hard-earned money ever again. Another rule that we ran into was not being allowed to stand in front of the bar outside of the patio. When asked why they enforce this rule out of pure curiosity, I received nothing short of a reply that stated, "Because we said so." A simple explanation instead of being stereotyped would have sufficed. This had also been exactly the same case with my hat. I have also heard on multiple accounts of bouncers actually putting their hands on men AND women and assaulting them. In complete honesty, I have not witnessed this but it would not surprise me in the least. While I am sure there are two sides to these stories, I am not sure what gives them the right to put their hands on women in either case but I am sure the owners have Calvert County and Maryland State police in their pockets and can do anything they want when they are called to the scene of the crime. This really reminds me of a corruption/lobbyist mentality. For those people, I am deeply saddened by the situations and wish you the best if you decide to file any lawsuits. If anything, remember to go after their liquor license as they can not sell alcohol without a permit. However, it is most likely that the owners have the liquor board in their pockets as well. The only way the public would be able to really stand up to this is by not attending the establishment any longer. IN ANY CASE, IT IS BEST TO AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT AS IT IS FILLED WITH CORRUPT MANAGERS/OWNERS AND RULES THAT NO ONE ON THIS PLANET WILL UNDERSTAND. I don't care if they think hats being worn backwards are signs for gangs. I don't care if they want to keep the bar as classy as possible which in all seriousness from the bathrooms and how clean the actual establishment is to begin with, GIVE. ME. A. BREAK. If you are so scared about 'gangs' being let onto your property, maybe train your security harder for violence instead of just telling your customer to wear their clothing correctly while the 'pants' rule is understandable. There is a restaurant down the street called the Lighthouse that has some of the best bartenders/staff I have ever been around from living in Michigan to all the way down here for me. They have buckets that are the same price as Tiki drinks but have double the beverage amount in them. The owners work hard to make sure that every customer enjoys the atmosphere and will do everything they can to make it better each and every day. They have extremely clean facilities (including restrooms) which is no where near close to Tiki's. After making so much money, you would think Tiki would upgrade their facilities as well if they weren't so busy getting profit and yelling at their hardworking customers. To top it all off, Tiki has not joined the 21st century and does not allow credit cards. Because of this, they avoid credit card fees, avoid the IRS, and fly under the radar when it comes to paying their fair share in taxes. Therefore, it is clear that this establishment only cares about 'getting by' with large profits and shares no sympathy for whoever walks in and out of their doors. However, these customers have my sympathy and I sincerely hope that the public realizes eventually what a corrupt staff these owners put in to place to perform their dirty work for them. read more

Avoid at all costs. The staff is inexperienced and very unprofessional. Me and four of my friends visited a couple of weeks ago. First of all, the bartender did not know how to make fairly standard drinks without us telling her what is in them. We didn't mind that aspect as she looked young. Our only problem with her was the fact that she cut one of our friends off well before it was necessary. We didn't know he was cut off and proceeded to purchase another round of drinks. One of the bouncers came over to our table and informed us that our friend was cut off and attempted to take his drink away. We did not argue with him taking the drink away, but asked that he give the drink to one of us and we will make sure he doesn't get any additional drinks. The bouncer agreed and gave the drink to me. My friend was not pleased about being cut off, but did not complain or make a big scene when this happened. A couple of minutes later, the bouncer returned with the rest of the security staff and told my friend that he needed to leave. We asked why he was being kicked out and the bouncer responded that it was because he questioned being cut off and was sitting in his chair sulking about it. We asked to speak to the manager, in which the bouncer responded that he was the manager on duty. We proceeded to voice our displeasure with the situation prior to leaving and another group of women that were sitting at the tables next to us did as well. They were told that they needed to leave as well. We walked away from the Tiki Bar and discussed our plans for the rest of the evening. My friends decided to go to another bar I decided to just go home and walked back to my car. Unfortunately I parked directly across from the Tiki Bar. As I approached my car the main bouncer that kicked us out yelled "there's one of those motherf******." I decided to take my phone out and take a couple of pictures. He then proceeded to run across the street at me with his fists balled up and threaten me. I responded that I'm not going to get into an altercation with him so they can call the police and get me arrested. His response was "I'm not going to call the police. I'm just going to kick your a$$." He tried his best to bait me into a fight with him. When he realized that I wasn't going to, he proceeded to tell me that I need to get in my car and leave or he would physically put me in my car. I explained to him that we were standing in the street and he has no authority there. He expressed again that he was going to put me in my car. At which I responded that if he puts his hands on me, I'm going to call the police. I decided that the best decision was to just leave and I will not ever return to that establishment. My only regret, other than going there in the first place, was that I didn't switch my phone to video so I had evidence of the encounter. As quickly as he ran across the street at me, I wasn't sure if I was going to need both hands to protect myself. read more
