She served our apps without bringing us plates or silverware. We flagged her down for those. She did no pre-bussing. Terrible experience at Tiki Bar!! A child's chicken tenders came out completely raw. When we asked for the manager, Suzanne, she said she would check her child's food before letting them eat. No apology or anything! They wouldn't comp the meal but all she could do was apologize. The lady literally said to our friend you've been drinking as an excuse. Tiki Bar is baAAaack!! They reopened this weekend (May 17-19) under new management after an 18 month hiatus. It was lively but not (uncomfortably) packed like before. Mai Tai's and orange crushes were my fave - still a little pricey but they take cards now. Definitely a unique place because of the beachy layout - live music plays under a huge tent, cute lights strung around, beach chairs to lounge in, and lawn games to stay entertained. Came here on Saturday for a few drinks before lunch. It was pretty early so luckily there were only a few other people around. It was a really cool atmosphere and a great open space. The drinks were delish... the first one I ordered had quite a few ants floating around in it... the bartender apologized and made a new drink. The Grapefruit crush was delicious! The best part of our meal was the service! The server was brilliant. It was really hot and she immediately brought the huge rimmed tray for the dogs (one promptly climbed in, as they are waterdogs)! Plus beers for us. We ordered rockfish bites and crab balls for appetizers. We should have stopped there. Both the fish and crab balls were good. All four of us followed up with tacos, 3 rockfish with corn tortillas and one surf and turf with flour tortillas. Three had side salads either basalmic vinaigrette and one had fries as a side. The portions were skimpy and the tortillas inedible. The corn tortillas were cardboard dry and we ended up eating the fish out of them (hardly any fish). The tacos only had cheese and lettuce in them. The surf and turf was one measly piece of meat and a piece of fish. Disappointing all around. The side salads were fine, but their basalmic looked more like sweet strawberry dressing, it was light pink and odd. As far as the ambiance is concerned it is a tiki bar set up across a busy road from the water with lots of motorcycles passing. I'd go back for a drink and people watching, but I'd skip dinner. Also we were charged an extra tax that we asked about and it was explained that it was a MD thing. Came here because this is like the only bar spot in the area. The place has a really nice setup. I like the feel and vibes with the live music. But obviously I'm here for the drinks. The Margarita Experience: We ordered a margarita from a mini bar behind the main bar of the entrance. First, they only take cash. The second downfall: the girl was making our drink with a plastic cup and couldn't make enough in portions. Tons of ice in it. I tasted only sour mix in our drink. It was completely horrible. There's plenty of chairs and tables around for you to hang out with your friends. There's also a few stations of corn hole set up. I can imagine it gets quite crowded but when my three friends and I came on a Saturday afternoon, it was quite nice. Orange or grapefruit crush is where it's at; $8 for fresh pressed oranges/grapefruit and a good mix of alcohol unlike their premixed mai tais and what not. Went here for brunch on a Sunday. We had excellent service and the food was alright. It was typical bar food - not terrible but nothing amazing. Ordered this teriyaki steak skewer from the menu I don't remember what it was actually called but it was good. The one thing I didn't like was the audio from the TVs was so loud we could not hear what each other was saying sitting inches apart from one another at the bar. I have been coming to the Tiki Bar opening in mid April for the last few years. I always have a great time. This is an open air covered bar with some strong drinks. I always enjoy their Orange Crush and the Kokomo. The people come to party and drink during the opening, so there is always a huge crowd that weekend. Yep...the third weekend in April usually marks the chaos on Solomons Island that IS the Southern Maryland Mardi-Gras...the opening of the Tiki Bar. Like most locals (work in DC, live in SoMD), I avoid opening weekend like the plague...though some strange part of me always wants to go. It's best left to those who have yet to experience that little bit of madness on the Point. Bring your beads...you'll get to distribute them, I promise. But any other weekend is a good time to Tiki. Early evenings are the best time to sit around with a more local crowd, to people and boatwatch, as the sun sets. Signature drinks include the famous MaiTai and Kokomo, both mixed in plastic gallon jugs, both guaranteed to drain your wallet at $7 a pop. But for some reason, you won't mind. It's all part of the Tiki experience. Bring your id and a good attitude. The bouncers at the Tiki Bar don't play around. If you're a punk or a total sloppy drunk, you're out. No questions asked. New ownership brought new changes to the Tiki Bar. The thatched roof and facade has been updated, and a small beach, tobacco shop (hey this IS tobacco country!), and a gift shop have been added. The old "No-Tell Motel" attached to the back has received a facelift as well. There's also Grill Sgt. BBQ set up next door...in case you get hungry. And there's always the ever present bowls of popcorn on the bar, if you're brave. All in all, the Tiki Bar and the surroundings of little Solomon's Island are a rewarding experience to anyone willing to make the drive out to the far reaches of Calvert County. It's seasonal as well, so if you drive out in November, you're going to have to wait until April for your next MaiTai fix. read more

The drinks were great, the food was good lunch style/bar food, and my kids loved playing on the stage. The side of slaw is flavorful, but it is a $5 side dish that comes in a 1/4 cup container. There is technically not food to order except the complimentary popcorn but there is a place in the square with take away food that you can have in the bar. We went around 5:30 and it was a very relaxed, chill vibe - even on Labor Day weekend. However, security is very very tight. They grilled me at the door about my ID because I look young and two different guards came over to our chairs to check our stamps. They also made people turn their hats around, etc etc. I know they're doing their job but it was as intense as I've seen at clubs in NYC and just seemed over kill. But under the new owners/management,I have been very disappointed with the bartenders at the main bar. They are very poor at scanning the bar for patrons that need served.
