My wife and I love good Indian food, and learning about a casual Indian restaurant opening up at Desert Ridge has been exciting for both of us! We have been counting down the days until today's grand opening of the Tikka Shack Indian Grub restaurant. This evening, we enjoyed our first experience, and it was a great one! Heading into Desert Ridge Marketplace, we easily spotted Tikka Shack though it took us a moment to realize that we needed to go through the wooden gate to get to the restaurant doors. We were immediately welcomed by staff and pointed right over to the counter to place an order. Along the way, we met Sunny, who was an owner or manager; he thanked us for coming. The service was very quick with the food arriving fast, and the staff asked us to let them know if we needed anything. We each decided to order a "build your own curry dish" where we first were asked to pick a dish (masala, kabob, wrap, or salad), then a protein (chicken, paneer, or lamb), and finally add-ons (naan, garlic naan, or Shack naan). We both ordered masala dishes with an add-on of garlic naan. I ordered chicken, and my wife ordered paneer. My wife's dish even had a cinnamon stick and a bay leaf in it for seasoning, which I hope was intentional. Regardless, both orders were quite generous in portion size and VERY tasty! And while we aren't really drinkers, there was a self-serve beer tap area with many options. The price was reasonable, too, and there are coupons available through signing up on their website or following along on social media. I was so excited to find a good Indian place to eat at! After reading all the reviews I couldn't wait for my food to be delivered (door dash has been food with quicker deliveries ) Based off of the reviews I ordered the butter chicken masala, Somosa, spicy chicken bowl and spicy chicken taco . I normally LOVE a good spicy chicken ! I tend to order the higher level at Thai food . The butter masala was great ! Good flavor and well portioned ! The naan was delicious !! But... the spicy chicken bowl and taco was EXTREMELY spicy... like inedible spicy ! Normally if something is this extreme purposely they give a warning on the menu , but this one didn't say anything like that. Sadly with how extreme it was I couldn't even eat it with attempting to cut some of the coating and dressing off. Had it not been through door dash I would have requested a refund with the return . We ordered Tikka and paneer pizza it was very tasty, great level of spices and baked to perfection. Mango salad with chicken tikka was very good too, salad was a bit on a dry side but overall ok. Children ordered spicy chicken wrap with mango salad. Unfortunately mango was missing on a salad but wrap was very flavorful and crispy. Naan was absolutely amazing. You can choose your curry here along with the protein. Nice spice level to the curry although I'm pretty sure my Indian friends would laugh. My samosas were nice and hot on the outside and still frozen on the inside. They remind me of the ones I buy at the Asian market. Service was iffy. Although we didn't partake, they have a great selection on tap and paying by the ounce is awesome. Cons: don't do the wrap. Reminded me of something you'd get off the rack at Circle K. Don't mean that negatively bc who doesn't love their corn dogs and taquitos? It's not what I come here for, though. Also, the menu says that the wrap comes with choice or rice or mango salad. It doesn't. Comes with mango salad so I had to pay for a side of rice. I should have pressed the issue. I didn't want a mushy mango salad. Seems they've made the flavors more mild than you'd expect here, to be more pleasing to the masses. Totally makes sense, and again, not a bad thing. I always crave their food. Yum, my favorites are tikka wraps, also i like cheese quesadillas from kids menu.

There needs to be way more food spots like this. I'm not sure what the terminology would be-- maybe fast casual or something like that? Either way, it's exactly what I want every day of my life. Especially the uniqueness of this one with the Indian fusion flare. The overall appeal is a perfect 10/10. Prices were very reasonable, so this is a place you would feel good about eating at 3 days a week. I went hard because I'd been wanting to make it here for a while after seeing AZ Foodie, but I live in east Mesa so I'm a solid 50 minutes away. I got the Tikka Pizza (to which I added chicken for $1 extra, duh!) and the Masala Fries (to which I also added chicken for $1, duh!). In hindsight, I should have done paneer on the pizza to switch things up, but I'll be back. Ok both items, I will say they went HARD on the tomatoes and red onions. My preference would have been to do about half the quantity or perhaps even less. I feel that tomato and onion taste dominated way too much on my pizza and fries. Aside from that, they were both exquisite. They were so wise to not put the sauce on the fries, but to put it on the side to let you add it on your own. This helped keep the fries super crispy and not soggy. And strangely enough, the fries were literally AMAZING. I could have eaten a barrel's worth. I do wish they had one other component to it... not sure what. Maybe some sort of cheese if possible. Perhaps diced paneer. Super tasty, nonetheless. The pizza was really good. The last chicken korma that got delivered to me,was of very poor quality. The sauce did not taste rich and nearly the same as in previous times. The prices have increased significantly, unfortunately, the quality has suffered tremendously. If you order your curry with rice they will literally give you a half portion. Order one without rice and they fill the whole bowl with curry. Order with rice and they cut the portion in half because they fill it with rice. I paid extra for veggies and chicken and barley got any so it was 19.50$ for a half curry and rice. read more

My paneer masala tasted like it was made with quality ingredients but had the feeling of not quite being done cooking just yet. Melding is pretty important with Indian flavors and the sauce wasn't as flavorful as it should have been but it tasted like all the elements were there. Our samosas were delightful and I wish I'd ordered more. Simply put, the naan is crap. It's not even as good as grocery store naan. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! I have been to this restaurant in the past, and it has gone downhill. I ordered the Tikki Wrap, which is vegetarian. THEY PUT CHICKEN IN IT BUT IT WAS VEGETARIAN!!! And it wasn't even good. The kid who waited on me kept playing with his hair and acting very disinterested. The whole staff spent more time and interest in socializing than in waiting on customers. They need to retrain all of their staff and tell them not to play with their hair around food, to pay attention to the orders rather than socializing with each other. read more

Very impressed with this location. I ordered from the website and it got made at a Shea location in Scottsdale. 20 min ride and the remade it in Desert ridge for me and adjusted the $ without a hassle. I mean it's harder to do this in a my popular fast food restaurant but these guys are amazing. And the Paneer Tikka pizza is just so worth it my kids love it and it's full of paneer on top. Everything has a perfect taste to it. I liked the naan bread having cheese, it was different but a good different. The workers were friendly and patient during the order process. They helped me pick my vegetarian options and explained how even though some stuff didn't have a V next to it it was still vegetarian. I enjoyed my dish and if we didn't live in Mesa we would probably go here every single day for dinner. This will be our go to restaurant everytime we shop around here. read more
