My mother, grandmother, and I all came here for dinner during our overnight in Blowing Rock; unfortunately, the dining experience here was such a disappointment. Honestly, the only reason I'm not giving it a single star is because our server was generally somewhat attentive... but other than that? The visit felt disorganized, the food wasn't even remotely special, and the ambiance just missed the mark. When we arrived, I noted with the hostess (1 of 3 - even though the restaurant was probably 3/4 empty) that we had a reservation... and even then, even with soooooooooo many empty tables, it took probably 15 minutes for us to get seated. Is there a staffing issue? Hard to know. There did appear to be multiple servers tending tables though. I honestly have no idea what the issue was. Either way, of all the tables in the place, we got seated next to a larger room that had one of the only groups in the entire restaurant... and they managed to be so unexpectedly loud that it really ruined whatever sense of a charming experience we may have been able to have. We each ordered various items from the menu... but the "beast burger" that I ordered as part of my meal was really underwhelming. Also, proportions of the ingredients just seemed WAY off. It was called a "beast" burger because of the mixture of elk, beef, bison, and wild boar included... instead, it seemed like a beast because the slice of tomato on it was cut so thick that I felt like I was going to have to unhinge my jaw like a snake or something just so that I could take a bite. Why do restaurants make such TALL burgers? They feel impossible to eat... I don't get it. For my side on that dish, I had ordered the truffle mushroom risotto... and honestly? I didn't even get a slight hint of truffle... and it's hard to miss truffle when it's there! The risotto itself was also extremely gummy... almost like the consistency of paste. Just... no. TL;DR Just really disappointed in the overall experience here. Everything from being seated to quality of the food to ambiance? It all missed the mark. I wouldn't be able to recommend this place to anyone... there have got to be better options in and around Blowing Rock.

My husband and I are staying at Chetola and originally came in for a couple afternoon drinks. Decided after a little bit we'd like to order a few starters. Even though I was told the baked goat cheese would take 15-20 mins (& was totally find with that wait), it took 40 mins for the wedge salad and baked goat cheese. The food was really great once it finally came. The delay really killed the experience which was unfortunate because our server was really sweet and friendly and the vibe was pretty laid back and nice. Would recommend keeping kids out of bar seats & sports on the TVs at the bar.

Food was amazing and service was top notch! We went with a large party and accommodations were great in a private area, food came out fairly fast and was all correct. Dessert drinks were a hit and so was the chocolate cake!

I was very unhappy with our last visit here. We had a large family gathering here and were seated in a private room, which was convenient. However, things went downhill from there. Sparing many of the details, my two biggest complaints were 1) We waited 60 minutes from ordering our food to when it hit our table. I know we had a large party, but the restaurant was mostly empty, and, having worked in a restaurant, cannot fathom why it took that long. The kids in the party got restless (as did I) and we were told excuse after excuse about how things were "almost ready." How did my daughter's hot dog take an hour?? Secondly, and I attached a picture, the food was barely enough for a child. I ordered shrimp and grits and it was small and not filling in the least. In fact, I counted and I ate my meal in 9 bites. An hour waiting for food and I ate it in under 2. I got fast food afterwards because I was still hungry. Chetola is a beautiful resort and Timberlake's is a beautiful setting, but I am not eating again.

This review reflects dinner over two nights during recent stay on the property. First night ordered the charcuterie which was lovey, the lamb bolognese and the filet. The filet was flavorful, very tender but a tad over the temp ordered. The lamb bolognese tasted good but wasn't the typical texture of a bolognese sauce and instead was more of a chunky sauce with lamb chunks, mushrooms, etc. so unusual but not bad. But a couple of things were off putting the first night. They were training new staff and the manager's voice giving the group instructions was distracting (took place in the servers area/kitchen but we could hear from our table). Second was when we asked if we could take two wine glasses to our room to go with the bottle of wine we had not finished, room was above restaurant, we were told no and were offered plastic cups, and that would had been fine but the explanation was an off putting tale that letting one couple would soon lead to 40 glasses missing. He didn't mean it but the interpretation was we would steal the glasses. When I stay at a resort at this price point and am paying for a special dinner this isn't what I expected. Second night was a totally different experience. Instead of dining room we ate in the bar area. Bartender was absolutely delightful. Had the burger which was excellent and the hot ham and havarti sandwich was spectacular. Loved the fries. So we would go again to eat bar food but skip the dining room until they get more settled in with new management and chef. I completely understand start of season new staff training just wish a couple of things had been handled differently the first night. The female server that first night did a great job.

I'm struggling with this review because I've been before (2018) and it was delicious. But we recently went for lunch for my sister in laws graduation and it was just .. meh. It wasn't bad, per se but it also was lacking and just wasn't really good. We got a variety of apps and then each got a meal. I don't think anyone was raving about the meal. I'm hoping they can figure things out and get back on track because in the past this was an incredible and delicious restaurant.

What a beautiful experience it's been here at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, particularly at Timberlake's Restaurant. The staff is so friendly and accommodating, I've been greeted by a smiling face everywhere I've gone. From the Maintenance and Grounds team to the front desk, to the Restaurant and Bar. I've had a few meals on the resort and a few off the resort, they've all been really good. It does get busy in the restaurant at times. Breakfast starts at 7:30am, but most folks don't come down til after 8:30 or 9, so it was nice and peaceful. I'll definitely be back.

Always an amazing dining experience at Timberlake's Restaurant! The views from the restaurant are just spectacular. I would choose to sit outside every single time just to have the view of the lake. The service has been consistently great. The servers are very friendly and attentive. One time, our entrees took a little longer to come out because the order had been overlooked. They were very apologetic and offered us a dessert on the house. All the entrees we have had were delicious! There's plenty of vegetarian options including the impossible meatloaf, impossible burger and numerous salads. They have a large variety of wines and craft cocktails. We'll certainly be back as regulars here.

We chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner - based on reviews. Reservations seemed to be required at least 10-14 days in advance and we still could only get 8:30. That's OK for us as we tend to eat later most of the time. It seemed we may have been the last party to arrive as the restaurant was clearing out shortly after we were seated. The Good: beautiful place and great views, at least for me. And although there was a table open at the window where we could both see views, we were placed at table closest to lounge area where my husband's back was to the window. The server was very nice, knowledgeable and mostly attentive. My husband's mentioned he would have liked a 2nd drink but after all the food was served (see below) we didn't see her again until the end. She did acknowledge my birthday when she initially greeted us. She recommended we each order a plate from each the appetizer, salad and entree menus and described one from each in great detail. The menu is very pricey and she is likely trained to make these suggestions. For example, on the appetizer menu, one scallop was $22. This is the one she recommended. Our garden salads and entree's were good - but not extraordinary. Husband ordered the tuna but was able to substitute scallops for the tuna ($55). I ordered the pork tenderloin ($48). I received it barely warm. The server promptly returned it to the kitchen to be heated. She was very kind about it. Once it was warm it was tasty. Was served with carrot puree that was excellent (seemed to have some brown butter and warm spices). Will likely try to recreate this at home. The Bad: There were 3 other tables being served in our area while we were there. I might guess they were locals based on the major difference in the level of service we received vs what the other 3 received. Don't get me wrong, as previously mentioned our server was very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. There was also a young man (dark curly hair) dressed in all black that spent a considerable amount of time at all 3 of the other tables when he brought their food out. He seemed to offer extensive explanations and have general conversations. He also brought out food, dropped them and was gone before we could even say thank you. There was a lady (straight dark hair in a sleeveless green dress with a name tag - (seemed to be a manager) that spent significant time at each of the other three tables as well as in the lounge area next to us with 2 couples there. Even after I had to return my cold food, she never stopped by to even say welcome/hello and make sure the plate was now satisfactory. My husband was a chef/proprietor/manager in restaurants for 35-40 years. He couldn't believe there was no check in after having to return a plate. One other table had a birthday and they brought her a dessert with a candle. I wasn't offered anything like that. Not sure if it is complimentary. We were only asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu and there was no other mention of my birthday except when we were first greeted. For the prices on the menu, I would think everyone would get great service and the manager would check on every table. Just left a bad taste in our mouths, not because the food was bad, but since we received average service when all around us received over the top service, I don't foresee returning and don't recommend them.

We asked for some suggestions, but he was a little less than enthused to offer advise. They had a good variety of beers, so my wife and I each got one, and shared them. We got the Pina Colada Kolsch and the Cloud Rise Hazy Ipa. Both were tasty, the Pina Colada Kolsch had a much stronger pineapple flavor than I expected, but in a good way. For food we started with the white cheddar poblano, which I expected to be more of a liquid queso for some reason. It was instead for of a soft, spread, which was really good, and paired well with the chips. And then we split the Turkey Reuben, which I figured would be made with deli meat, instead, it was warm, cooked chunks of turkey, really great flavor, and hit the spot for us. The sides with the sandwiches were a bit lacking, only offering hot chips, and green beans....I've never gotten the whole hot chip craze, but green beans just seamed like too odd of a side option for a sandwich It was a good visit, and a good meal, to get us back on our feet. Overall, a nice space, with bar seating, a back room, a back and front patio, plenty of space to hang out, relax and enjoy their beer. Food and drink were both good and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Her attitude with me last night squelched our desire to ever go back. (FYI.... based on our conversation last night: if you have an oyster allergy you need to tell them. Hidden Gem in Blowing Rock…read more After spending the morning at Grandfather Mountain, I took the scenic route into Blowing Rock and stumbled onto an absolute gem. Hellbender Bed & Beverage and Bistro Roca share the same space now, and the result is one of the most charming spots I've found in the High Country. The outdoor patio was beautiful, with flowers everywhere, cozy seating areas, fire pits, and plenty of dogs lounging alongside their owners. The gravel patio was a little uneven, so my table had a slight tilt, but honestly, the atmosphere more than made up for it. I started with a glass of Crémant de Loire. Crisp, cold, refreshing, and exactly what I wanted after a morning of mountain exploring. For lunch, I ordered the Moules Frites. The mussels arrived swimming in a rich, flavorful broth with basil and sun-dried tomatoes, alongside a generous pile of perfectly cooked fries. The combination with the sparkling wine was fantastic. I cleaned the plate. The service was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant. My only suggestion is a little more attention to the details. If you're serving mussels, a spoon is almost essential for enjoying that incredible broth. A smaller seafood fork would also make fishing out the mussels easier. Minor things, but details that can elevate a great meal into an exceptional one. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. My entrée and glass of bubbles came in around $23, which felt like a great value considering the quality, portion size, and setting. I skipped dessert only because I was determined to finish every last fry, then headed into town to walk off lunch and hunt for something sweet. If I return--and I absolutely would--I might even stay at the inn. The cottages looked adorable, and the whole property felt warm and inviting. Just a short walk from downtown Blowing Rock, this place delivers on atmosphere, food, and mountain-town charm. Five stars for the food. Four stars for service. Five stars overall because I'd happily come back tomorrow. Life is too short to eat mediocre food. Get out there and stuff your face.
