Timberline Bar & Grill serves American food and cocktails. Their dining area offers panoramic views of Juneau and Gastineau Channel. This views of the mountains are stunning. We were high enough to see seaplanes descending for a landing. There is one small caveat. Getting to this bar & grill does require a tram ride from the base of the mountain. The tram ride can be a white knuckle experience if conditions are windy, which iwas the case during my visit. Timberline offers an array of seafood and grilled items. They also have a bar have a list of house cocktails. Orders must be placed at the bar. I ordered the Halibut Burger with a side of fries. I also ordered their Keylime Pietini cocktail. The halibut burger was grilled to perfection! The cocktail was very sweet and was almost like a dessert. Seating is first come first serve and I was fortunate enough to snag the window table looking out into the channel. Overall, a wonderful dining experience while enjoying nature. read more

Our stop at Juneau,Alaska was really amazing but finally will breathe taking we on the Goldbelt Tram to see a more spectacular view of Juneau and looking the beauty of Juneau. There's a restaurant called Timberline Bar & Grill on the top on monut. After looking the incredible view we were getting little bit hungry and the restaurant is just right there the restaurant looks very nice with Alaskan native art and totem including black bear and mountain goat hives on the wall very impressive. We were looking at the menu we were not that hungry we need a snack then we decided to get nachos Alaskan style. We got the half of nachos they give us a number and waited we noticed there's a bar cool. Then they brought our nachos it was big we took a bite we notice a crunch in ever chip. The nachos have sour cream,black beans,guacamole and other items. They were so good so much flavors in the nachos we don't know what hell these Alaskan did to the nachos. The views are incredible; however, the food is sub par at best. First, you order everything at the bar and pay a hefty tax. 1.20$ per 10$. Not sure if it is a luxury tax. $17.50 for queso /chips. The chips are from Costco and most were broken. The dip had a funky taste and was served at room temperature. It was worth $3.50. I went to the bar to get another beer and my table was about to be cleared (I saw and said "still there."). This was a very disappointing experience. Please save your money and eat elsewhere. Such an awesome experience up at the top of this beautiful mountain! We came on one of the opening season days and the bartender greeted us with open arms and delicious cocktails. For a city dependent on cruise ships you think they would ensure appropriate staff are in place when ships are docking. I order a halibut burger. It was so small I even just used one side of the sandwich bun. For food that was supposed to come out got it was cold. Well worth the $33 for the lift and you can come and go all day :) We ordered the crab nachos and the smaller one was way large enough for two. Cruise ship tourist season happens from May through September. You may come up by hiking up, spend at least USD 10, save the receipt and ride down, or pay to ride up and down. Upon arriving, it noticed a very long queue waiting for a ride down and thought right away it was a mistake to come up here as it's at least a twenty to thirty minute wait for the ride down. The restaurant is very busy, the host was busy and not very efficient at seating people, as if there are any available tables to seat people. Fortunately, another of our party already went through this process and already nabbed a table for us. We had a table outside, but better have some warm clothing. Their seafood chowder was very good, cup USD 7, bowl USD 9. For two dollars difference, get the bowl if you're sharing or hungry. Great food, fresh seafood, and fantastic views! Lil expensive, but totally worth it. I had the halibut with garlic aioli and it was amazing. My husband got the pound of alaskan king crab and it was superb. I arrived right when they opened at 11 and had a great view. The fried oyster sandwich I had was pretty good. The Alaskan fried bread was tasty. Alaskan amber beer on tap. My waitress was attentive and nice. I doubt this place is a more fresh food type place but they did fried food well enough. Clam chowder came out after the microwave powered off with a ding. Oysters from Cake AK took a very long time as if they took the tram and fished them from the dock. Came out after the microwave dinged. The price for a half dozen is what I normally would expect for a full dozen. Tasted like they were stuffed with microwaved salad bar bacon bits. We were like one of only a few in the place for dinner snacking on appetizers. Another couple eating at the bar and all their dishes were served after hearing the microwave ding. Staff were friendly but I honestly don't care to hear why you are understaffed and why you are working the bar and waiting tables. Guessing an employee brought his family in for chow by the under the breath back talk my bartender/ waitresses spewed. And the prices are a turn off. Zero wow factor going on here. I would like to give a higher rating, but I was disappointed with the lack of service. Our party of 6 arrived on July 1st in late afternoon and we were promptly seated outside on the patio which has a wonderful view. No waitress ever came to take our order and after a good while we noticed the party at the adjacent table had their drinks only because they went straight to the bar and ordered there. We followed suit and ordered a good pitcher of beer. By the time we finished the pitcher we still had not been visited by a waitress so with our bar bill already paid, we left and returned to our cruise ship for dinner. The menu looks decent and the prices seem reasonable. Not sure if the restaurant was simply too busy, understaffed or a combination of both. My advice, take the 2 mile hike to the top and reward yourself with crab nachos, clam chowder, and a beer. (hey it was 2 miles). don't worry if you eat too much, you can ride the tram back down for free when you flash your dining receipt. Our family booked a gondola ride up to the top, including a "seafood dinner," meaning dry salmon with a mediocre side of potatoes/salad/soup. The food was really not all that great, but I guess you can't expect much from a restaurant with just about 5 other people in it besides our party. It was pricy as well, but I haven't eaten at a place with nicer scenery than this. However, about half of the tables are situated next to trees, so you can't see much other than green. I literally had to walk to the other side of the restaurant to get a good view. The best thing on the menu was the hot chocolate, surprisingly enough. So we hiked up the backside of Roberts Mountain trail, and ate here. We had the nachos, soup, and two AWESOME desserts. The server made GREAT suggestions and we took food back to the room!! I had high expectations of this restaurant as being the place to eat while in Juneau. Boy was I mistaken. First is costs $31 per person to take the tram up to the restraint. If you're a Juneau resident or go their with one, they can buy the tram tickets and you get a $19 voucher per person with their ride and dine package (this is one of the few good things about the place). Keep in mind there were 4 of us that went here to eat. I expected at least a 4 star dining experience, even though the dress was casual. The prices would also suggest top notch food, table settings and decor. What we saw inside were cheap, flimsy tables with cheap wire frame chairs that looked like they belonged along the back wall of an office conference room. Outside on the deck there were more cheap, flimsy tables that were slightly beat up along with cheap plastic deck chairs. A customer at another table fell out of his chair when the leg bent and the chair collapsed as he was sitting down. We were sitting on the deck which was mostly full, and by this I mean there were 6 tables, 4 had 4 people (ourselves included), 1 had 2 people and 1 had 1 person. The remainder of the restaurant had maybe 20 people in it. We were there for about 10 minutes before we could order our drinks. When we finally did the waitress came back and said they were out of the particular wine that I had ordered and I had to pick another one. This is a tourist city and a tourist restaurant, how do you run out of any of your wines? I ordered another wine and about 20 minutes later our drinks came. During this 20 minutes time the waitress never returned. We're now up to roughly a half hour just to get something to drink besides water. By the way, our water glasses were never refilled during our entire time there. At this time the we finally got to order our appetizers, fried calamari and pel' meni (which are russian dumplings with a spicy sauce). After about another 20 minutes of waiting my friend and his girlfriend went to smoke. They found our waitress (again she had not visited our table in the past 20 minutes) she showed them where they could smoke and decided to join them. Upon finishing her cigarette she told them that she "should probably go get our food now". My friends came back a few minutes later our appetizers were brought out, about 30 minutes from ordering and about an hour after arriving. The waitress didn't offer to take our order so I asked if we could order. She had to go back to get her pad and pen to write down our orders as she didn't have them on her. She came back and we ordered, 3 top sirloins and a ceaser salad with seafood chowder in a bread bowl. We ate our appetizers while waiting another 30 minutes or so for our meals. Now we're up to around 90 to 100 minutes before starting to eat our meals. First, the Cesar salad came out with the chowder. Salads are supposed to come out before the meal but whatever. And from what she said, the chowder was not very good. My friend ordered his steak medium-well, it came out well-done, nearly burned, no hot slightly pink center like it should. I ordered mine medium-rare, which is supposed to have a warm pink, borderline red, center. It came out medium-well, borderline well, hardly any pink at all. It was also very tough and had a line of gristle running through it. I've cooked better sirloins on my back yard grill that I bought at the supermarket. My dads steak was the only one cooked properly. Keep in mind that my dad and my friend both ordered medium-well steaks yet they came out cooked completely different. I ate my asparagus that came with my steak first, it was cold but I ate it since I was so hungry. I then started on my steak. I took 3 bites and called it quits, my friend had 2 or 3 bites out of his. We sent them back and asked for the manager. When the manager finally showed up, he said that he agreed that my friends steak was overcooked but that mine was cooked properly. Needless to say that irritated me just a bit and I let him know. If I'm going to pay $25 for a 10 oz steak I want it cooked properly. After arguing for a couple minutes the manager went back inside for a while, came back and said he would not charge us for the 2 steaks that we didn't eat, which was fine. We waited a good 15 minutes and had to flag down the waitress to get the remainder of the bill for what we did eat. She thought the manager wasn't going to charge us for anything. A few minutes later another manager came out with the remainder of the bill ($140 without the 2 steaks) and asked us if we had any additional complaints. This is when we told him about the waitress going on smoke breaks, our poor service, etc. He took the bill along with the 4 $19 vouchers we had from the tram. We waited a while longer until my friend went to see the manager with his credit card to see the manager and asked what we owed. He said the vouchers would cover it and we left. read more

" Great Place to Eat at the Top of Juneau Alaska " My wife and I took the Mount Roberts Tramway to the top of Juneau Alaska two weeks ago and had a wonderful experience at the Timberline Bar & Grill. First of all the tramway ride up the mountain is really breath taking, and once you get to the top, you can look over the entire city of Juneau. We ate lunch at the Timberline Bar & Grill where Food & Beverage manager Mark Collier seated us at a table and talked with us about the history of the restaurant. Kristina Peterson our server was awesome, as she handled our every wish. Also Executive Chef Randall Rice also came to visit our table and gave us a sample of his personal recipe Salmon Andouille Sausage, which was delicious.The Fresh and Baked Oysters were very tasty, the Reindeer Sausage Ruben Sandwich was very good, and the Fish Tacos were yummy ! But one of the best dishes was the Huge, Giant, and delicious Crab Nachos. The Bar & Grill also has a wide selection of Alaskan Beers on tap. Long story short, I waited two hours (11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.) for a cup of clam chowder... the waitress had too many tables and the management lost control. Hiked to the top of Roberts with two friends, came down to the Timberline for a drink and a cup of chowder. My group was immediately seated; However, it was a solid 10 minutes before we even had water in front of us. 15 minutes after being seated, our drink and food orders are taken. 40 minutes after being seated, we had to ask where our drinks were. Then again, when the waiter forgot one of our drinks. An HOUR AFTER BEING SEATED, we asked AGAIN about our food (we ordered a salad and 2 cups of clam chowder. Not difficult or time consuming to make) and were finally given something to eat. My soup was lukewarm, as it had been sitting for almost an hour. Here's the best part. After my group expressed our concern for our level of service (or lack thereof,) the "boss" removed ONE drink from our total. FYI, there were 3 people in the group and we all waited the same amount of time. Why did they have to pay for their drinks and I didn't? The waiter wouldn't even look me in my eyes as we said goodbye and left. I understand you're embarrassed about the terrible service, but that doesn't get you out of being courteous to your guests. All in all, this restaurant and the people running it are just awful. I, nor anyone in my group, will be returning to this sorry excuse for an establishment unless management really puts forth an effort to make this terrible experience right. read more

I took the tram up the hill, and found the views beautiful. You can see all the cruise ships in port and the majestic mountains overhead. Inspired, I thought I'd grab a bite to eat. The timberline bar & grill offers great views, with a diner-ish/lodge-ish ambiance. I was seated immediately, but was not greeted by the waitress for some time, until I got up and talked to a lady who happened to be the manager. She was great and took care of me (not sure about the slightly cranky waitress). Anyway, I had the fish & chips, and paid the extra $3 for halibut only (normally it is 1 piece of halibut, 1 piece of cod and 1 piece of something else). I have to say, after trying the halibut, this is why I don't eat fish at home - it was SOOOOO good! Really fresh (off the boat this morning), flaky, moist, delish! Stopped for some milk and a snack for my son, ended up with the crab cakes and the crab nachos. The crab cakes were good, but what really made them great was the spicy sauce they served with them. My husband is searching for the perfect crab cake, he never likes any...these, he liked! The crab nachos were also good, my son thought they were quite tasty, I did too. My only suggestion is to layer the cheese, guacamole, etc, throughout the nachos a little better so every bite has all that yummy goodness. read more
