We came Saturday morning about 9 am and had no problem getting a seat. Looks like a little mom and pop eatery Not sure I would go back but that being said- it was good just very basic. If you enjoy very simple straight forward menu this is for you. The menu doesn't have descriptions of their items, so you kinda have to ask. For example, "what is in your western omelette?" I ended up getting the breakfast burrito- I wasn't sure what they included in theirs. She said it came with bacon- but I struggled to find the bacon bits- size was good and lots of potatoes- almost just a Potato burrito- salsa was fresh & spicy too.

This is a little hole in the wall cafe that we randomly stumbled upon. The staff is incredibly friendly and you can tell that many of the locals comes here frequently. The menu is limited but the food was very tasty and the portions were very generous. The facility itself was older in appearance and the table we sat at wasn't the cleanest. The salt shaker was crusted at the top and the sugar was hard (I couldn't pour it). The coffee itself was very watered down but they were quick to refill our cups. Overall not a terrible experience but there is some room for improvement.

This is a small family operated business. The decor is old and seems to be from the 80's, with funny signs displayed. There is an outside patio, parking is ample in this strip mall location. Not a glamorous place by any means. Service is casual - there were 2 servers on a Sunday morning, which resulted in delays. The menu is small but they accommodate requests. My California Benedict was vibrant with a overly generous amount of sauce. They kindly swapped out the ham for spinach. The hash browns are made fresh and are the right amount of crispy and creamy. Coffee is average. The French toast was delivered, but we had to ask for syrup twice. Waters were not refilled until the bill was requested. Lots of locals and regulars come here. It's definitely a neighborhood place.

The service here is good. The building is a little old but the food definitely makes up for it. Out of 7 of us not one person had a negative thing to say. The cheeseburger was excellent. The monte cristo was great. Everything was at least decent. Recommend trying it if your in town. The only issue I had was that a lady brought her little dog in a dog bed and put it on the table. They allow dogs which is fine but allowing pets on the table is going too far.

We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. This morning my wife and I both chose the Time Out breakfast sandwich and it was incredible.

Great little local Cafe! Great service, tasty food, and cozy atmosphere! We came for breakfast & ordered the California Benedict (she says 4.7/5 stars- Really hit the spot), French toast (5 out of 5, hearty bread, just right on the egg, and syrup on the side!), and last but not least the western skillet (4.5 out of 5, delicious hashbrowns with lots of cheese and bell peppers!). Can't wait to come back for more breakfast and to try the lunch menu! Service was wonderful, everyone was so nice and easy to talk to! Food is homemade, so it takes a little longer but it's definitely worth it!

So I found this place off Yelp. Walking in the place was pretty small and we were the only ones. Felt a little awkward however we sat down and everything was great from there. Friendly attentive service. I had the Cobb salad which was huge and OVERLOADED with toppings. The ranch was super good and homemade too which makes a difference. My son had the monte cristo. Really yummy. I would order this next time with a side of syrup. Fries were perfect too. Hubs had the pork chops and eggs with side of toast and French toast. The pork chop was excellent. Not dry. High quality and hash browns were great too! Literally everything we had was tasty and we will be back.

My Great Dane served and treated with the best hospitality in their outdoor patio section.

First let me start off with the location and vibes: The diner/cafe is located in a shopping center that isn't too busy, we found parking in front right away. This was around 10am when breakfast was in full swing. I walked in to find a full counter top bar seating, and plenty of table sitting along with covered patio seating outside. Right away I noticed the "Dogs allowed, people tolerated" sign which made me feel comfortable I had brought my fur baby. I was greeted by a woman behind the bar, asking how can I be helped - to which I explained I needed a table for two and I had a large dog with me. She told me to sit anywhere I liked and she'd come by with the menus. She came by shortly after with menus and took our drink order. There seems to be a handful of waitresses. I wanna say about 3, it's very family owned and mom & pop vibes. So the name suits the leisurely vibe. Don't expect crazy fast diner service. FOOD: The menus are pretty small but they have your standard selection of breakfast items. They did say they are currently not serving alcoholic items so no mimosas was kind of a bummer. We ordered a California Benedict with pancakes on the side. Another classic Benedict with French toast on the side. They are served on white glass plates with steak knives and hash browns on the side. Hash browns we're 10/10. I like the outer crisp and the soft warm potatoes on the inside. Hollandaise on the Benedict was 9/10. Not too sour or runny. They did pack it on so if you like it lighter just ask for less. French toast was cooked to perfection. I like mine toasted and on a brioche bread. Pancakes were very good as well. I give both 8/10. Many people complained about the coffee at this place. I would say it is lighter but not watered down. You still get that rich coffee taste with out that bitter shot of caffeine. Over all the food wasn't by any means Michelin star worth but I would come here any day instead of IHOP. And I'll tell you why in the service portion. SERVICE: From the moment I arrived I could tell all the customers there were regulars. I could hear them be greeted on first name basis. And I was not discriminated against it being my first time here. I got to choose where we sat. Service was prompt and friendly. They treated my dog like a princess. They brought her water, food and a bed! All without being asked. Food for her was comped and all the staff came by and chatted with us and made sure we had everything we needed. If you have a dog you know that despite people even liking dogs you always get this kind of discriminatory vibe. But they welcomed us back any time and told us they loved having us by. I can why many people return. I can tell they remember their customers and take great pride in making them feel welcomed. Overall we were taken care of and had a wonderful experience. I will definitely be coming back here.

Ok have been wanting to try this place for a long time, finally got the chance today. Walked right in on a Sunday morning, that was nice. Only 3 or 4 tables being used. Waitress was right to us for a drink order and to give us menus, coffee fast, hot, and flavorful, nice. The service was outstanding to say the least, coffee was full and hot the whole time I was there and my wife's ice tea filled constantly. The food was hot and ok, nothing memorable. Gravy was good, but everything was kinda bland. I can understand that because you can't season for everyone. The eggs on my Benedict had runny whites, gross. The biscuits were way to crunchy for my taste, I like them soft. The chicken fried steak was soggy and tasted of oil. Portions were good and the home fries were tasty. We will be back to try some other things from the menu, maybe it was the time of day or what we ordered, I don't know, not ready to write them off just yet. There has to be a reason they're getting such high reviews. read more

I had a horrible experience here! The waitress and cook were very unskilled. (Manager was pleasant though) I ordered the fajitas and they were so chewy that I could not eat them and went hungry. They were nice enough to take it off of my check since I physically could not finish the food- The manager seemed very good honestly. My mother's English muffins were BURNT AND CHEWY and she didn't like her meal either. My mom felt bad asking them to take her meal off too, so we just left. We wound up eating fast food after so we didn't go hungry. read more

Went in one weekday at 1:00pm and I was told they could not take anymore customers (there were plenty of seats open) because they already had 15 orders ahead of me and by then they would be closed. I asked about a to go order and they refused to consider that also. I left defeated. After reading other reviews here I see refusing service to customers seems to be a standard happening. I know I won't bother to stop again, why waste my time. read more

I don't know how many people they have working in the back, but they are SPEEDY! The ladies up front are constantly rushing around, cleaning, busing, seating and serving.. may look like they'd be too busy, but they never use that as an excuse to skimp on their awesome customer service! My family's been here with me 3-4 times and even though it's been a while, they still remembered and welcomed us warmly. I skimmed through some photos on yelp and my son saw the Spongebob French toast that wasn't on the menu, he was so excited. The server didn't know what we were talking about at first, but after looking at the picture, gave the thumbs up and sent the order back. My husband was the same story, saw the loaded French toast in a picture, it wasn't on the menu either, but they found a way to serve it right up! Mine was just off the menu, quick and easy as always. We were there for a Sunday brunch and there just so happened to be a family of about 12+ seated right after us, and adjacent to us. Seemed like they were maybe being a little difficult, but the servers still did their best to accommodate with a smile. I knew I wanted to finally give their place a review and as we were leaving, one of the guys from the back (chef, manager? idk) walked us out and said thanks for coming back. I asked if I could get a picture of him in the front for my review, he said no, no, I'm not good enough for yelp! Well, I snapped the pic anyway and you can even see the ladies that served us in the background! :) give this place a shot for a casual meal! read more

Omg! My husband and I went for brunch this morning to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my birthday. Weve discovered our new favorite place and absolutely love Gabriella and the food is fantastic! The California Benedict was the most incredible eggs benedict ive ever had in my life...my husband loved his meat lovers omelet...the hashbrowns are perfect and homemade! We cannot wait to come back amd try their other food! Everyone must try this place! And the price isnt bad at all! Mimosas are strong and worth it!! Yummmmmmm! Because its our anniversary and my birthday...they went above and beyong service and made us a delicious crepe! We love you guys!!! read more

At an unexpected visit to my mechanic on a Saturday morning I needed to kill time and eat something while I waited. Open up the Yelp app and two blocks away was this awesome place. The service was quick, the food delicious and my coffee cup was never empty! Friendly service, simple menus and from what I saw great daily specials! I myself had the ABC Omelette! Gabby and Joe are the owners here. Whenever we come here they always make conversation and make us feel welcomed. We've taken our families here, and they enjoyed it. You can sit wherever you want for the most part unless it's busy or you have a big group.They have a nice little patio area outside with umbrellas, although we usually sit inside. Gabby usually takes our order and every time no matter what we order breakfast, lunch or dinner the food always tastes amazing. They serve mimosas, beer and wine in case your wondering. read more

I love to Time Out Cafe! Not only is the food consistently good no matter what you order but Gabby and Joe always make you feel like you're dining at their home. Great food plus wonderful service makes this place a go to destination for me! I highly suggest the fish and chips or the chicken lovers sandwich. The fish and chips are made to order with their house made beer batter! I've never had a more flaky, tender, crispy fish at any other restaurant! Truly a gem! read more

Overall tastes was pretty good, would come back. The chicken fried steak was very good. Strawberry Crepe was a little disappointing. Crepe itself tasted a little coarse/rough. All I can say is I am still thinking about the delicious California Benedict I ate here last week.... DELICIOUS!!! We came in for Mother's Day Brunch with a party of ten, our first time at Gaby's new spot. I expect I am somewhat biased as we know the owners and the staff - but the food is just amazing, and the service is awesome. The restaurant is decorated beautifully, and has a very welcoming ambiance. The coffee was great, all of the food looked amazing, and the California Benedict was the best I've had yet. Boyfriend got the chicken fried steak, and the gravy was perfect, perfect, perfect. It was the perfect delicious balance of everything I love about diner gravy. And the hashbrowns were perfect, crispy, not even a little bit greasy, and just heavenly little stacks of delicious potato goodness. I expected to have slower service or a few snags since they just opened, but the food came out really quickly, and our service was great. Our coffee was refilled quickly throughout the meal, and everyone in our big party got their food at the same time. I'm really glad to have this delicious new breakfast spot in our neighborhood, and can't wait to go back and try their lunch and dinner offerings as well!! read more

A hidden gem in vista, went for breakfast. Pleasantly surprised, food was very flavorful, fresh and hot when it came out. Toast actually had a decent amount of butter not like most places that skimp, waitress was kind and quick to refill coffee even before I needed it. Price range totally In budget and get a good amount of food. I took pix but was too busy eating so I got some in between bites can't wait to try other items from here. I've been wanting to visit this place for a while and decided to give it a try on a Saturday morning! We showed up and was seated immediately. It's awesome that we didn't have to wait in line like some other famous brunch places in vista... this place is definitely underrated! We had Steak Rancheros and Pork Fajitas Omelette.... my gosh the most delicious breakfast I've had in a good while!! We would definitely be back!!! read more

Service was very good and everyone is so friendly. Omlettes and pancakes are good. Kinda hard to stir my coffee without a spoon so I had to use my butter knife. :(. But we would come back and can't wait for them to start their street tacos up again when the weather improves. read more

Come here if you're and looking for some amazing home style cooking. Been coming here a few times over the past few years and there hasn't been an item on the menu I haven't loved. Portions are pretty huge and service is prompt. Owners are from eastern Europe I believe and so there are a few specialty items hidden on their menu. Go check it out! read more

Great breakfast and service. We are here for breakfast every weekend so they know us well. We can always find a seat and are served breakfast fast. Everything we order always tastes fresh and delicious. They allow dogs in the patio area outside and the inside is nicely decorated with plenty of seating. read more

Delicious. Had the Cali Benedict and added spinach. Sounds basic but the hash browns were perfect. I like them extra crispy and often that ends up being too toasty and greasy. These were lightly toasted and still moist in the center. Mentioned this to the friendly lady taking care of me and she says they make them fresh. Back to basics here, it's fantastic. Eggs were poached perfectly, bacon cooked perfectly, a bit crispy so wasn't goopy with the sauce, oh and hollandaise on point. Side of salsa was a bit bland but to be fair, I'm Mexican, and my family makes fantastic salsa. Large portions, ate it all anyway. Great service, friendly. Freshly prepared food. Very disappointed.. we read great reviews but when we came for breakfast the service was slow and our country potatoes were undercooked. We asked them to recook them, the waitress came back so fast with what looked like our original potato's swimming with grease and tasted so bitter! Never returning read more

Something happened on our last trip to the Time Out Café. Our last visit was 5 stars and I'm stretching to give this one 3. I know they can do much better and I hope you come here on a 4 or 5 star day. Our food was, for the most part, burned black. The hash browns were blackened as was the corned beef hash. Service was 5 star as usual. We are going to give them one more try. read more

I had breakfast there this morning. The food was was pretty good as usual. The one waitress that was working seemed to be in an argumentative mood. I asked for no salt added to my order based on my moderate salt diet, and in response she asked me, "what restaurants add salt to their food?" Her manner of approaching me for my order made it clear that I should "make it snappy," and although my breakfast was promptly served, she ignored me and only responded to me in a curt manner after that. After waiting for my check for what seemed like forever, I had to stand up for a few minutes when she finally made eye contact with me and totaled up my amount owed and, without giving me my check, just announced it was $13 even. Not the great start to my day I wanted. read more

Found this place yelping after packing and loading the uhaul. So happy we decided to go here the owner is a hard working women who we happen to know from the San Marcos Restaurant her and her husband opened up about 3 years ago and as lots of Family places they have had ups n downs but still standing! Well I sure hope they keep going because the food was amazing! Service just like Family would treat you or even better! Nice,Clean, and just a perfect little spot! Highly recommended! The menu has a little bit of everything and not your typical Dennys or Cocos sorry trying not trying to compare but it is what it is so yummy:) :) read more

This has to be my favorite breakfast Place! The food is soo delicious and they serve you sooo much food I can never finish it. The prices are perfect. Since I found this place I haven't been back to IHOP or Denny's. I recommend the Mexican omelet (very spicy) and the banana Nutella Crepes ! You might wanna share they give you a lot of food trust me!! The owners and waitress are soo friendly and are constantly checking to see if you need anything! Great great Service.. First off, for all those raving about the hollandaise sauce, it's from a package and not real - I tasted it ... no, no, no. Waitress needs to learn this - she said it was "made from scratch" when I asked. Absolutely not. Made from powder with additions. I had the chicken fried steak and it wasn't bad - gravy was good, too. Came with eggs and hash browns (breakfast). Service was good - food came quickly. Toast was dry with just a dab of butter in the ctr. of each piece. Was in a group and most liked their food. read more

My boyfriend and I recently moved back to Vista and wanted to find a new local Breakfast spot that was dog friendly. As soon as we arrived to Time Out Cafe we noticed a sign that said dogs welcome. This family run business has the most Amazing food. I ordered a breakfast burrito which was HUGE and delicious! They make their own salsa that is divine. My boyfriend ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich. With the soft buttery crisp crunch he couldn't help but finish every bite. Our waiter even brought our dog some food and made a forever friend. They stepped out of their way to give our dog a huge bowl of water and even a bed to lay on. This will be our new favorite spot. If your looking for good company and amazing food come check out Time out cafe, you won't be disappointed. read more

The Cali Wrap with Turkey and sour cream is an absolute game changer. Very tasty! I opted for the soup as a side and also excellent (A bean soup with very good flavor and consistency). The ladies were very sweet and provided exemplary customer service. I will be coming here again, for sure. Wish they were open later, however! read more

I never eat in any more. - The new manager is incredibly abrasive and unprofessional. She always complaining loudly to her employees while they work and it's sometimes about customers. (She called a guy who called in an order "stupid.") She and her family members often take up multiple tables in the cafe even when it's busy. I know they have an office so why is she always taking up a table for four with her paperwork? I've seen people looking for a table and then leave because she and her family had spread across mulitiple tables (for only a couple of people.) - There's often only one (nice) young lady working behind the counter so things go *slow*. I don't know if they're understaffed because they're cutting corners, but I will say that turnover seems high lately. Gee, I wonder why? I will keep picking up my black coffee here but I will never stay or get something "fancy" ever again. Maybe visit the cats but don't expect a nice place to hang/work.

There were hardly any other customers in the place the entire time we were there. At about 11:20 the cashier woman came to our table with our original receipt and showed us the time stamp on the receipt and said, "I told you you can only be here for about an hour, this is not the kind of cafe where you can sit and work all day." I said, "It's only 11:20, it's not even lunch time, we planned on ordering lunch here as well." She just walked away and said nothing. We should have left but we were in the middle of working. We did end up ordering food, 2 avocado toast dishes. They made one of them incorrectly and they tasted just OK. We certainly didn't tip her and we certainly will NOT be going back there EVER again. There are other reviewers who feel the same way about this woman, read carefully before you consider giving this place a single penny, she doesn't deserve your business. We are always looking for nice little cafes to work from, she could have gotten 2 new customers for life, instead she gets this review and maybe one day will learn a lesson.

I had my first breakfast of 2025 at Time Out Cafe, a charming local gem in Vista, California. The food was absolutely fresh and delicious--crispy hashbrowns, perfectly cooked bacon, and fresh eggs that hit the spot! What makes this place even more special is the hardworking couple who run it. The wife manages the front with such care and patience, while the husband works his magic in the kitchen, cooking up amazing dishes.
