If you down fo fried seafood southern style, this is the place for carryout. Good portions, good price. They use good cooking oil I had a combo, catfish, shrimp, chicken wings, oysters with fries. All good. I would say the weakest link were the chicken wings, but still all good. It is in the hood, so maybe go with someone riding shotgun who can stay in the car :)

And there isn't any regular update and that means you can try calling--IF they even kerp the outgoing message accurate. I finally made it to Touch of Soul since they moved. It was excellent! It at least seemed the food was spot on with all dishes cooked with aplomb. My only issue with TOS (a personal pet peeve) is they never returned to real plates and actual silverware. All you can get even for dine-in are plastic utensils. Anyway, in short, southern cafe is dead--Go to touch of soul on adeline

I drive down this place nearly weekly and everytime I look the line is crazy long or they're closed. So one day the boyfriend and me drove by, hadn't ate and seen no line. So we stopped. Big mistake! I ordered Breaded Pork Chops with red beans and rice and mac! The pork chop had so much breading..... so salty. My cholesterol went out the roof. Rice was hard still, mac was just okay! Now on to my poor boyfriends meal... he actually wanted what I ordered lol! We tend to always want the same meals ag places but since i'm so picky he's always thoughtful and lets me get it then he'll order something different. He went with the Meatloaf with mac and rice and gravy..... i'm sure you can tell just by the picture of that meatloaf he wasn't very happy! I forgot to take a pic of what it looked like when we cut it.. but it was RAW. The sauce they smothered it in was disgusting. The gravy on rice was beyond salty. The only item edible on our plates was our mac. I wouldn't be back nor do I recommend them. There prices are way too high for the quality of their food. Oakland has way more soul food places worth checking out!

They are all young, which is very good and positive that they are working, but some other servers needed to be a lot more presentable. Some of them needed to speak a little better and not be in the front diddling around and talking! this is still a business and it's still a restaurant and it's still your job; you never know who is walking into your establishment!!! you should always keep things professional just because you feel like it's black owned establishment and the customers are primarily African-American, with the exception of some other nationalities; doesn't mean you act urban ! We did ask what came in their spike Kool-Aid came and our waitress said I don't know some Drank ? What? Why don't you know this you work here? I asked one of the other servers about the eggrolls and it took him about three minutes to answer. I'm like are they chicken shrimp pork all servers should know the menu and drink selections Conclusion : the owner is very sweet her story and the history was informative! Music was good ; The food was pretty good. Everything had decent amount of flavor . I would definitely downsize on the chicken wings. Those things are huge! ( steroid chicken) but overall I would visit again tighten up on the servers professionalism! Happy I was able to support this black own business and I think you guys should definitely give it a try it's worth going it's pricey, but that's understandable running a restaurant is hard and expensive! I was surprised that the food was as good as it was, but it actually was!

No complaints though--it made for a relaxed meal and the service was attentive. I ordered the fried chicken and beignets with gravy, and it was excellent. I'm usually someone who prefers bone-in fried chicken, but this version won me over. The chicken was juicy with perfectly seasoned, crispy breading, and the savory gravy paired surprisingly well with the beignets. Everything on the plate complemented each other without feeling too heavy. The only miss for me was the orange juice--it was pretty forgettable. But honestly, the rest of the meal more than made up for it. I'd happily come back for the fried chicken.

My go to is catfish and hush puppies I am not a spicy girl when it comes to my food so FYI the gumbo has a spicy kick to it. 3 bites and I had to stop eating it but sure it's flavorful The only items they still have that I do not like is the potato salad. I tried corned beef hash for the first time and loved it so I came back for that and was not disappointed. The meal is about $16 comes with toast, eggs, and I chose the grits which are also hella good. The service is always amazing and so is the food. The only reason why I gave 4 stars is because I can't bring myself to agree with the price of their breakfast sides compared to what you get. & it may have been some months but they used to fill both sides with grits. Seems like portions are getting cut for Togo orders maybe but prices are staying the same. For 3 slices of thin xtra crispy pieces of bacon (actually two slices and burnt pieces) it's $8.25+ I remember thinking it was insane so I never added any extra meat and after going recently I was reminded why, my order came out to $27, when I opened the side of bacon I was disappointed. I believe the quality and quantity should better match the price. Otherwise I'll gladly go buy a full pack of thick cut Oscar Meyer bacon for less than what they're charging for 3 slices and just add it at home lol. it's tough for business owners and consumers out here so while I understand price increase, it should still make sense for the consumer. Still love this place down. Just won't be paying for a side again.

I ordered the snapper fish sandwich with a side of greens. The greens were an additional $4 but somehow I was charged an extra 50 cents on top of that. My partner ordered the Tasty Treat combo, and it was far from tasty. The chicken didn't taste fresh; it tasted reheated. The shrimp were mediocre and both of his sides were disappointing. The yams were bland and watery, even after we tried to doctor them up with sugar, cinnamon, and a bit of lemon. The mac and cheese wasn't cheesy and was also very bland. My snapper sandwich was underwhelming. The fish didn't taste fresh and the sandwich only had lettuce and tomato, no cheese (-_-). The collard greens were ok but they had a lot of stems and I'm pretty sure I saw mustard greens mixed in. Our total came out to a whopping $58 including tip and I low‑key regret tipping that much because the food was not satisfying at all. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

Our server was great, and the vibe was excellent, definitely a classic SF restaurant! I got the slushee of the day + rum which was super tasty. For food I got the risotto with blackened chicken. As someone who has works in the restaurant industry, I understand firsthand how challenging this business can be, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people who work hard to make a dining experience memorable. That's why I don't say this lightly when I say that our food experience tonight was extremely disappointing. We ordered the pork chop, which was okay, but the cabbage side was honestly hard to eat. I'm not sure if it was intended to be slaw or steamed cabbage, but it was essentially wet cabbage with very little flavor. The potatoes were decent, although the portion was quite small and they had a texture that tasted almost like boxed mashed potatoes. The biscuits were extremely dry and hard, and unfortunately, the butter served alongside them wasn't very good either. The spinach that came with the special was, without exaggeration, one of the worst parts of the meal. It had a very unpleasant taste that made us question whether something was off with it. There really wasn't another way to describe it. For a $44 plate, I expect the steak to be cooked properly, the sides to be flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and the entire dish to feel worth the price. We also ordered a peach soda that was $10, which already feels very expensive for a soft drink. What was even more surprising was finding out that refills were not complimentary. That's something I feel should be clearly communicated when ordering. This is supposed to be soul food, a style of cooking known for bold, comforting, flavorful food. Unfortunately, our meal just didn't deliver that. Everyone at our table left feeling unsatisfied. We spent $163 for three entrées, three drinks, and two orders of biscuits. When you spend that kind of money and the food is exceptional, you leave feeling like it was money well spent. When the experience falls this far short, it's understandably frustrating and leaves you questioning the value. I do want to give credit where it's due: our server was wonderful. We had absolutely no complaints about the service. He was attentive, pleasant, and did her job well. I genuinely hope this feedback is received in the spirit it's intended. I know how difficult the restaurant business is, and I'm not looking to tear anyone down. I simply believe that when a meal costs this much, the quality, flavor, portions, and overall execution should reflect the price.
